Siri and G-male fall in love...!
Tex, PCCRC
I DO have some Quicktime video tutorials, and over 300 articles in my web site. I have a private blog too, were I post routinely on my PCCRC routines.
You'd need an account on ThinkorSwim, which by the way, has a Mac-compatible (Jave-based) platform with risk graphs and entry of the PCCRC in a single order ticket, so you can have fill with a single debit bid.
OT: TraderInterviews
Over the years I have exchanged ideas with a lot of you guys, so I thought you may be interested in listening to me being interviewed by Tim Bourquin of TraderInterviews.com.
The subject is my trading career, and specifically, the use of options to create the PCCRC (put call calendar ratio combination), which is a low risk, leverage strategy that some of you may find useful.
Just go to this site and listen up.... right now is the first interview on top of the list... Those who don't remember, my real name is Juan Sarmiento.

Thanks, and sorry if this seems intrusive.
Time Machine.... Finally.
After doing making the changes to the partition of my external hard drive, which I thought would fix the problem (and didn't). I gave up.
This morning, I casually started the thing again. Except that this time I excluded applications, Library, System files and system applications.
Miracle! then it did complete the first back up. I then included the regular applications, and it did back them up, no problem.
I don't think I'm going to back up Library, System files and Applications. If I have a crash, I'd probably not want to restore them, anyway. I'd rebuild the System from the CD, and restore the files I created, and third party applications.
All is well that ends well.
Dilleet, the thing does not work as advertised.
Apple did not say they can back up, "some files". NOP! they are suppose to do it regardless of the applications I run.
There are plenty of backup softwares out there that deal with these things,
So, please, don't call my actions "missteps".
==============
What can I say Paper, my 1st go was problematic, but now Time Machine is up, running and very slick now?
At some point you'll realize some picayune thing you are overlooking now
I gave it my best shot for many hours (most of the weekend and Friday). You know I am not some newbie Mac User. I have been using Macs since 1987. IF there were exceptions or necessary rules to make the software work, they should have explain it.
Apple claims ease of use, not so in this case. If with all my experience I was forced to give up, what about the 1st time users?
K, I don't come to this conclusion lightly.
When you say to make sure that the computer does not go to sleep... Of course I tried that!!!
I also tried a hundred other possibilities, including the partition issue.
I am not going any further than this. There is no benefit on it. I have a life, you know...!
Only if it WORKED!! (?)
All my attempts to make the thing work have failed. I give up!
I spent my whole weekend reformating disks, renaming files, erasing preferences, restarting, reinstalling... You name it, the thing does not work.
I have never been this pissed at Apple. I can't believe they put this out.
Backup softwares have been out there for decades. It is surprising that they could not get it right from the outset.
And there are plenty of other people with other drives having the same problem:

The Time Machine problem....
I may have found the solutions serendipidously. The idea of repairing permissions on the source drive seemed so logical, it surprised me when it did not work for me. So I decided to erase my source disk. For that I needed to do a mirror backup and place OS 10.5 in my backup disk. So I went to the CD and it refused to install in my LaCie ext drive because....
"To use the disk to start up an intel-based Mac, or to use the disk as a non-startup disk with any Mac with Mac OS X version 10.4 or later the disk needed a GUID Partition Table".... BINGO!!
So while still on the Mac OS X disk, I opened the Disk Utility, selected the LaCie Drice, cliekd on the "Partition" button and changed the Volume Scheme pop up menu from Current to 1 Partition. Then I could click the "Options..." button and check the "GUID Partition Table" radial button. This erased my backup disk once more.
The next back up is scheduled for 7:36 PST....
I think this will work! it makes sense that the hard disk was not working properly for my Intel-based Mac Mini.
We'll see.
I was just off the phone from Apple support. It took an hour just to get through to the OS X specialist.
He had no clue. Said this is a new app, so it is hard to know what could be wrong with it. Here are some suggestions:
1. Remove the Time machine preferences, empty trash and start machine again. √
2. Disconnect other firewire items you may have. √
3. Change the firewire interface you may have your hard drive connected to. √
4. Change your hard disk. HELL NO!!!
5. Try back up from another account in your computer. Not tried yet.
6. Erase your hard drive and start over. √ yes, I actually did this...! I have been working on this issue for 2 days.
7. Change your firewire cable, the one you are using may be corrupting data. Not done this yet. It will be in my list to try out. I am currently testing 3.
8. Do a "archival" installation of Leopard. I think he means to not just do the update but to install as though this was a brand new Mac.
Thanks Tom
I see what you are saying. In my particular case, I have run TIME MACHINE with all applications closed.
I don't use Aperture. And I have shot down all applications while running the initial back up.... 2 days running the back up and it is not completed yet. I have about 99GB to back up and only 30GB have been backed up.
The Backup drive was erased completely, renamed and tested to make sure it is perfectly functional. I have dumped Time Machine preferences..... Nothing!
This MUST be a software bug.
Any "TIme Machine" Problems here?
"TIME MACHINE ERROR"
Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while copying files to the backup volume
Any iBooks yet?
Yofal, thanks but!
What I am burning are not videos from a video camera, they are videos of the computer screen created by Snapz Pro in quicktime files. Using iDVD would decompress them and thus limit the capacity of my DVD's. I burned on DVD as Quicktime files and they worked well in my Parallel virtual PC, and in my Mac, but would they work in a PC overseas?
Need help with burning DVD's
I have produced a three DVD's about trading options with the Elliott wave, but now a friend in England tells me that I need to be concern with the "Region" encoding of my DVD... He said I should make my DVD's region Free.....
I have a Macintel Mac Mini, with a superdrive, but help about this "region encoding" is hard to understand and find. Can anyone help?
Thanks
Apple's market cap
Just a stone throw away from HP, and 2x as much as DELL now....
What a change of fortunes!
What If I just reinstall my Tiger and start from scratch, and avoid the update to X.4.10?
This is a good lesson never to assume that one needs to update the OS every time it is offered.
OT: Help with Sound. Apple system update
Tiger was recently updated to 10.4.10, and I started to experience a sound issue.
The Microphone seem not to work any more. Is this an update problem? has anyone experience something like that?
I have sound studio, and Garage Band, and even after checking the preferences, the mic still does not register the sound.
Yes, I did check the Sound System Preference, and I don't see the sound input.
I have a cable to connect to my audio cassette player and THAT works.... Why? I don't know.
Can some of you with 10.4.10 see if you are experiencing something similar? suggest solutions?
Thanks
Incredibly awkward, but they pulled it off.
You almost felt the tension in the room, but they succeeded en remembering the funny annecdotes and forget the grudges.
I commend them both.
Spanish are considered hispanic too.
As they speak the language.
Also, if you want to include Portugal, Spain, Brasil and hispanoamerica in one bunch, you'd use the term IBEROAMERICANO, as in Iberian Peninsula, which includes Portugal and Spain, and Americano for the continent, which would include almost everyone from Mexico to Argentina, again leaving out Guyana, French Guiana, Suriname and the Dutch Antilles.
Again, another geographic/language term... NO RACE here.
BTW, Spanish are also a misture of white and moors, so even they are not a single race.
Hispanic is not a raise
Hispanic for spanish speaking. It really comes from hispanoamerica, which would exclude Brasil, Guyana, French Guiana and Suriname, the Dutch Antilles etc. It is the identity of those of us who speak spanish. It has been transformed into a statistic here in America, to separate from Black and White.
The term Latino may be more appropriate, to be sure. But again, it is not a raise, but a geographic procedence. We are more attached to National pride than to raise, so lumping all of us in one group is not acceptable for most. Yet, we live with it!
Some of the suggestions:
Like Shakira, Roberto Carlos and Julieta Venegas and Juanes would be considered POP music, or free style. In this category I really, really like Diego Torres because of the arrangements. I am not a fan of Roberto Carlos, but boy, was it ever popular when I was in Brasil in the 70's.
Shakira is definetly in a category all her own. Her dancing comes from her Lebanon roots. Aparently she makes her own music.
I thnk Eliane Elias should be somewhere at the top of the list of people who like bossa nova. Excellent suggestion. Reminds you of Sergio Mendez in his prime.
Here are some you MUST check out
Cuba/Puerto Rico/Salsa
The FANIA ALL STAR
Tito Puente
Rubén Blades
Celia Cruz
you probably already know americanized music by
Miami Sound Machine
Santana
José Feliciano
Bossa Nova:
Antonio Carlos Jobin
Vinicius de Morães
João Gilberto and Astrud Gilbert (their daughter, Bebel is doing great too).
Baden Powel
Toquinho
Chico Buarque (look for example Samba Pra Vinicius)
Mexico, Mariachi (be selective):
Luis Miguel - Mejico en la Piel, search for LA BIKINA as well.
Plácido Domingo - Años de Mariachi. Also check "de mi alma latina"
Tango:
I am not a fan, so this suggestion may be a surprise for some, but Julio Iglesias as a very nice production simply titled TANGO.
You MUST check Raúl Di Blasio, the Pianist of America (it means the entire continent).
Domenican Merengue: Juan Luis Guerra... This is simply fantastic, if you can put up with his high pitch voice.
These are all classics, a good way to start. Select what you like and build from there.
Music is a very personal thing.
To put "latin music" as a one genre, although practical for iTunes, is almost a sin for the different latinos who have national identities as strong as the US. Or would you like to be called "north americans"? Heck, we don't even want the term "etnicity" as we are a true melt of precolombian, african and european founding races.
Argentinians have tango, Brasilians have bossa nova and Tango, Domenicans have Merengue, Portoricans have Salsa and Cubans have Guaracha, mambo and chachacha, Colombians have te cumbias, Peruvians have the panflute, Mexicans have mariachi and tejano music, venezuelan have the criollo music like joropo and their own venezulan merengue. The genre are really endless.
Fortunately, iTunes offers the Latino essentials and the top latino music. I suggest you go listen and listen to their previews and start making your own library and develop your own taste.
I for one am partial to braisilian bossa nova, but who can resist some well made salsa?
Good thing that they show how much FUN latin music is....
and melodic too.
Compare that to some hard rock!
How about a new interface.....
Finger-based like the iPhone, in the iBooks?
I think the Apple comercials are brilliant. We have come a long way from the day Jobs was forced to declare the war with Microsoft to be over.
I have the impression that people were waiting to see if the Vista was worth it, once they figure it wasn't they decided to buy a Mac. Otherwise how would you explain the sudden surge in Mac sales in the traditionally slowest quarter of the year?
It IS happening...
I can hardly wait to see what Leopard has in store for us. Have you all see the invitation to developers to demo Leopard in June?
One share, One dollar....
I just ran accross a YouTube video where Steve Jobs describes his departure from Apple sayin that he sold all of his shares in the company, except 1.
This reminded me that when he came back to Apple as iCEO, he was paid: $1 for a while.
He also said that by age 30 he was worth hundreds of millions of dollares, but that it was never about the money.
Ironically, the back dating of options may make you think otherwise.
Has he become greedy in his old age?
What is the rational for owning 1 share when he left Apple? why not 100, why any at all??
Why receive $1 as iCEO? why not $100, why any money at all?
Strange!
Now there are 4 Apple stores within driving distance of my house and 2 easily accessible within less than 15 minutes.
The first they opened, was about 45 minutes away.
The second, 30 minutes away.
Now I am happy to report that I can go to the Apple store if I am bored.
Is it possible that it is payback time
Remember when MSFT threatened not to update Office for the Mac, back in 1997 (or so)???
Some PC users may not want to upgrade to Vista if it won't let their iPods work (?).
Bill Gates interview show who he really is...(?)
Not happy about Apple eating MSFT lunch?
Vista and Leopard.
Two questions
Is there a good video clip demostrating vista in the internet?
When is Leopard due out?
Would you call a Blackberry a phone?
If you go to Blackberry.com you'll see that they don't call it anything. In fact they just call it a "solution" whatever that means.
Blackberry is Blackberry, the same way that the iPod is an iPod, not an MP3 player. The "iPhone" could be call anything, so why call it a phone?
iPhone... A good name?
Personally, I don't think so. Why? for one thing it is a lot more than a phone, so the name is misleading. Almost like calling a computer a "calculator".
Steve Ballmer had a few laughs yesterday on CNBC saying "...a $500? who are you kidding, motorola has a $100 phone! it doesn't even have a keyboard!"
Yes he is an idiot who doesn't get it, or purposely leaves out the fact that the keyboard shows up when you needed and that the "iphone" is a lot more than just a phone. But the name is still extremely inadecuate. This is really a SUPER iPod. The name, does not reflect that.
Lots and lots of upgrades....
What should that tell you?
It tells me, that the target for the year is still higher. However, it makes sense to take profits here.
Jim Cramer put it best yesterday when he says, he does not care what the stock does today....
I agree.
EW analysis on AAPL
Well, without going into it too deeply, the Refined Elliottt wave software from Elliottician.com is what I used. The target most likely to occur in each time frame is in each internal trapezoid. So you can estimate the most likely price and time accordingly.
For those who understand Elliott wave analysiis, the sequence since October 2003 is a double zigzag, and the last aggressive rally is already underway. As that target is approach, a review of the short term analyisis will help pinpoint the final target more accurately.
If you want to learn about this software, go to Elliottician.com.
My target for this year is $140.

Wait a minute...
AAPL reports AFTER hours tomorrow right?
How could it close above 100 before the news?
Jus wondering.
Pardom my ignorance about iPhone name..
It seems to me that if you have iPod nano, iPod video, iPod suffle, iPod this and iPod that and EVERYONE in the WORLD knows what an iPod is, the name has taken over the culture, it seems to me that the perfect name would have been iPod phone, to convey that this is a full featured iPod plus phone. The name iPhone says nothing much, in my way of thinking.
No, What I mean is...
That Apple should (or should have) focused on the rental market. I'd be happy to let them stream the video into my TV, I view the movie, pay a monthly subscription or a lesser fee ($3 or so) and be done with it.
Buying movies on line? what for! Not me, anyway.
Why would anyone want to BUY a movie?
What about watch one and pay a nominal fee? like RENTING?
How about monthly subscriptions with unlimited movies like Hollywood video?
