K, great to see you are still around. Hope AAPL continues to treat you well.
chas (ky)
Still around, Roni. Needless to say my Jul AAPL plays failed miserably. Will recover with my Jan '09 & '10 Leaps. Picked up most when AAPl was down recently.
Not doing as well as last year but there is still time :)
chas
When supplies get tight, suppliers look to provide more (if they are allowed to).
chas
Not sure who to blame but I believe there are a few. Bill Clinton vetoed ANWR drilling in 1995 (I believe Jimmy Carter had that portion set aside for exploration). Not sure what reserves it holds but if it could produce 500-1,000k barrels a day it certainly would help.
As far as "the peak" with oil production, I must plead ignorance with a caveat. How can we have reached the peak when new oil fields (of size) continue to be found off Brazil? What about the US coasts? Does that include tar sands and shale in Canada and Utah, Colorado, etc. I know the sands and shale are not "sweet" oil but with prices high (or even at 80/bbl) is it not economically feasible?
Oil drilling has improved vastly since the Union Oil/Santa Barbara debacle in '69.
If all of this only gave us 30 years, it should be enough for us to develop better & better methods of propulsion, etc.
Just my 2 cents. Be somewhat gentle :)
chas
BTW, let's not forget about coal & nuclear...
My AAPL Jul'08 200s are coming back. My recent acquisitions are up 82% & 36%. The problem is my base group is down 74%. But heh, it is good progress. I am up 37% on my AAPL Jan'09 200s (2 batches). I plan on going a bit more into AAPL (maybe 2010 LEAPS) 'cause I am beginning to feel really good about the year. Of course, if oil goes to 150 or 200 all bets are off :)
chas
Added more to my Jul'08s. Appears I may be able to break even on them. Playing Jan'09 200s, as well. Hoping by July to be in the money for the year.
I will never be as good as Bootz but this is a photo of my 18 year old Peony Tree (but I will keep trying). It has been a wonderful spring...
chas
Pleased here as well. Will be going deeper tomorrow now that we have hit 180.
A happy camper be I.
chas
I have faith in my Jul Calls. Might have to wait a bit but it does appear they have most cylinders running.
I hope :)
chas
Feeling funky so I picked up some more Jul 200's. We will see if I am smart or dumb. Too many positives out there, even with the recent strong gains.
chas
BTW, would have said "groovy" from my days in San Diego in the mid-sixties but you all would not have understood :)
Was hoping to get close to breakeven on the july's (quickly) and then unload them. I made a mistake back In Dec by not going farther out. No mystery, just my mistake.
I still believe AAPL well do well in the Cal Yr'08. July may be too early.
chas
What, no comments on the Pileated Woodpecker :)
Not sure but I feel like unloading the boat for this Earnings period. Am I getting too greedy? Am I a fool thinking that AAPL will hit 200 soon?
chas
Running three AAPL calls--Jul 2008 200s, Jan 2009 180s & Jan 2009 200s. So far so good. Still under water on my Julys but anticipate some help with earnings.
chas
Very helpful (GOOG). My AAPL calls doing much better. Still underwater on my April '08s but my Jul'08s coming back & my Jan'09s well above water. My BIDU Jan'09s kicking strong at 400% to the good. May yet be able to even out my losses for the start of the year.
chas
Congratulations! We passed that milestone last Sept. I find that our relationship has improved like fine wine.
BTW, my 180 Jan AAPL are doing nicely (as are my 400 Jan Bidu's). Need both of them to pick up for some "uglies" I picked up in Dec.
Best wishes (and keep that iPhone handy for quick 'net news),
chas
Picked up some Jan'09 180s. Will be adding some lower ones if I begin to see more market stability.
chas
Kinda OT
Noticed a couple of 17"MBPs on the Fox News Channel. Most of the time I see these blocked by circle over the apple.
2nd ablation appears to have worked but we both ended up with the flu. I may have a bit of pneumonia <sigh> Minor snow on the ground does not may me feel any better.
Stay warm...
chas
Kinda OT
Wife had a 2nd Ablation surgery yesterday (the first didn't get it all and her heart rate starting running at 110). Hospital had WiFi and I was using my 17" MacBook Pro. Lot's of people did some major looking and one said they are great. No problem using in recovery room.
I wonder what they would have said about an almost credit card size portable :)
BTW, we think this time the surgeon got it all (the misfiring cells were close to the tricuspid valve so blood flow made it difficult).
chas
The new iTablet?

I am tired. No way I can stay up to midnight.
Picked up some more AAPL calls today. Low volume, sitting close to 200 & MW released my inhibitions. Glad to chat with Kurt today.
Everyone be safe and have a good Eve. Here's hoping we have another great year with our favorite fruit.
chas
Sorry I can't help, Roni I must shower and head to work.
Presently sitting outside in 20 degree weather with my heater ablaze! It keeps everything pretty warm except for my feet.
Clearing out some old holding to go against my gains. Anyone remember EMDG? What about EGGS? Yes, i was foolish enough in years past to acquire these wonderful critters. That was before DD was drilled into my head :)
chas
Dilleet, glad you made it through the surgery. I imagine "OUCHY" does not describe it properly. I hope the chemo and radiation work, providing you with a long and comfortable life. Keep us posted.
You are still in our prayers...
chas
Got out a few days ago, just prior to the drop.
chas
My outside office...
Where I listen to the birds for investment advice :)
chas
Hope not...
It should just add to the hype for MacWorld.
chaas
CNBC named Jobs man of the year...
One of the guests mentioned 250 as the guidance for 2008 (and mentioned that might occur prior to macworld). Would be nice to start the year off with a large bang :)
chas
Took my gains on BIDU (+60% on Mar Calls). Hard to play them due to low interest for the 470s I held. Added to my VMW batch & FITB. Thought about adding more AAPL but wasn't sure as they couldn't hold 200. Gotta believe volume will pick up and a strong movement will occur by the end of next week. Still sitting on some AMZN Mar 110 calls. Hoping they can produce with some good news.
Would like to end the year with a big bang...
chas
Been very windy and moving towards 25 degrees. Not the greatest fireplace but it does work.
Best to all...
chas
Christmas Moon over Kentucky.
chas
Way to go, Roni. I am feeling quite comfortable with AAPL for the next few weeks. Will reduce just prior to MW as I expect others will. Looking forward to chats about when they will hit 250 :)
Playing FITB Leap as a wild hair. Financials will come back, won't they...
Missed out on RIMM but still playing BIDU.
The best of Christmas' to all and a Happy Apple New Year.
chas
Lot's of time between now and the 14th of January (Macworld). The buildup is starting but the train has not left the station. All Aboard!...
chas
Roni, tried to catch some AAPL on the downdraft but missed it due to the close of action. Was able to acquire some BIDU, however. Still looking for a Santa Rally but am beginning to wonder.
Hopefully I have not caught a Dagger...
Tom, release some of your hoard. Bonds are so dull :)
chas
The best to you, Dilleet. I hope it turns out benign (as many do) and that you are back home recovering for Christmas.
You are in my prayers and thoughts.
chas
In an effort to help you all...
I bought my son a new black MacBook, my wife a new Nano, my mother-in-law an iPod Classic and my father-in-law an iPhone.
I feel certain this will bump the stock to over 200 :)
chas
Roni, appears that BIDU may also be allowing another entry point. My VMW held up well today. Still at better than 50% cash. This may be the opportunity I was looking for reducing that position.
chas
I guess I was wrong about the rebound. I forgot to let you know that I picked up some AAPL today. An obvious indicator that it would go down...
Sorry :(
chas
Watch it rebound. The big players wanted 50 basis points. Once it is digested, it will recover.
chas
Thanks, Roni...
I call it my breather to protect my 2007 gains (which have been wonderful). I am doing some DD on some 2008 players (like DE).
chas
I am beginning to think I am stupid or Acesteele (or what ever his name is). I messed up by 1 month on my Oct statement and now I have done it again, Sitting on cash while aapl and tech play hopscotch. I will never wear the cape at the rate I am going.
For now, think of me as Ace and buy, buy if I say don't.
chas
Closed the last of my AAPL options (at a reasonable gain). I am expecting another drop in the next week and will hopefully be able to get back in before Xmas. Apple store was not as full as I would have expected and few were walking out with purchases. Getting lots of Apple email pushing pods, etc.
Even cut my GE holdings by 50% (it has only been a div play for years). My cash position will be strong to catch a dip.
Of course, I have been known to be wrong. Hope I am not the wrong kind of indicator :)
chas
Well done, CT. Let's hope for a strong Xmas rally to make us all pay lots of taxes :)
