Our apple trees are doing well.
We have two in the back yard, along with two cherry trees and a plum tree.
Anyone notice anything today? EOM

From that article:
Added to Jan 2010 160 LEAP position before leaving for work this morning.
Will eventually roll out some Jan 2009 LEAPs to Jan 2010, but will wait some for that.
Apple and Gold Miners - still my story in the IRAs
Other accounts are large cap growth or managed by the Oregon Investment Council.
I am going for broke in the IRA accounts - and may get there *laugh* - but I cannot imagine that it would make much difference in a world that January 2010 160 LEAPs don't make some money over the next 20 months. Could be wrong, though.
Report: Mac sales up 60% in February
Macintosh sales were up sharply in February, according to a brief report on the latest NPD data posted Monday at flyonthewall.com (registration required).
The report shows growth in Mac unit sales up 60 percent from 2007 and growth in dollar terms up 66 percent. That’s considerably higher than Pacific Crest’s estimate of 10 percent, according to the same report.
The news may explain why Apple (AAPL) shares jumped several points Monday afternoon, ending the day in positive territory.
Could this be? I see AAPL over $130 this morning *laugh*
woohoo :)
Thanks Tex :).EOM.
My question on the "Spitzer rally"
Are you suggesting that yesterday's rally had anything at all to do with Spitzer being busted? Nothing at all to do with it.
Look to other news for a reason. Spitzer effect, not significantly different than zero.
No, the story is not that.
The story is
Well you can read the story in the NY Times and other fine news outlets everywhere.
Hello every bodies,
Did you buy yet?
Are you going to?
I have a full load.
Once again, I hoping my timing does not suck.

Well, I am coming to this well to try to find this good man some help. I will paste his post below and will appreciate any helpful informaton anyone can provide:
Ok here's the deal. It's a PowerMac Quicksilver (2002) dual 1ghz with 1.5 gigs of ram running Leopard. From About This Mac:
Quote:
Hardware Overview:
Model Name: Power Mac G4
Model Identifier: PowerMac3,5
Processor Name: PowerPC G4 (2.1)
Processor Speed: 1 GHz
Number Of CPUs: 2
L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
Memory: 1.5 GB
Bus Speed: 133 MHz
Boot ROM Version: 4.3.3f2
The POST (power on self test) in diagnostics shows this
Quote:
Power On Self-Test:
Last Run: 3/3/08 7:26 PM
Result: Failed
Failure type: External cache
The mac is supposed to have a two mb per CPU external cache. I've read information on a number of forums about the problem. Here's what I've read:
1) the cache failure is an indication that one or both CPUs are about to fail. I should turn it off immediately and buy new CPUs.
2) It doesn't matter whether the cache is there very much. I should keep using it and not worry.
3) It matters quite a bit when using PhotoShop but not very much other times.
Okay, what do you investorhubies think of this. Buying a newer, more expensive computer is really not an option here.
My how times change also Firefox is recommended.
They also recommend Firefox, which is my browser of choice for most things.
It has been so long since I have opened IE for anything it is like it does not exist in my world.
Safari is not my go to browser.
I read where Mr. Lango commented on my posting frequency
I dunno how many ways I can say I am long AAPL and gold miners .
I do know that I wrote that I thought we would see an accelerating growth curve with the Mac. That will likely be moderated by economic trends, but I think that story is intact.
My last buy was Jan 2010 $160 LEAPS. Stock portfolio is pretty much locked in for the next period of time. Fund portfolio is heavy large cap growth and I doubled our monthly contribution to it in mid January. No plans to change that.
I figure I won't need to withdraw that money for a long, long time. The money I will need is in a pot (aka Individual Account Plan) that my employer contributes an amount equal to 6% of my salary to and is managed by the Oregon Investment Council (OIC) - the same entity that manages the Public Employees Retirement Fund multi-billion dollar pot.
That 6% is in addition to the traditional defined benefits pension that I will start drawing in three years, if I choose to retire at 60, something that seems increasingly likely - contingent on research progress in Ms. Roni's genetic, degenerative retinal disorder that will lead to legal blindness in about a decade according to her retinal electro-physiologist.
So, the long and the short of it is that we'll be in warm and sunny tropical climes in ~ 3 to 3.5 years, subsidize that for 3 years with proceeds from the IAP.
We'll see what happens with gold. I have moved most of that money into an index-based ETF, GDX, to save time on individual company DD and monitoring. Still hold a couple of individual stocks, but spending far less time on things market-related these days.
That's a wrap for now. AAPL and GDX, mostly in IRAs. Long large cap growth in 457 plan fund portfolio. Another pot managed by OIC.
We're doing fine. The G5 iMac is still doing fine. The iPhone is still doing fine and I continue to be enthralled by the ability to surf the web whilst in the doctor's waiting room instead of looking through old magazines :). Kathy's old iPod Mini is still doing fine.
Hope ya'll are doing well also.
Peace out gotta go get ready to do my educational public service gig.
Mac Book Purchase
A colleague's husband has his MacBook Air with solid state drive. He also has an 8-core Power Mac. Good scientist and grant writer he is.
She may get to bring it into the office for show and tell :).
I'd like to see it.
Picking up some long Jan 2010 LEAPS in the mid 100's range. EOM.
I don't know when I wrote that 2008 would be the year of the Mac, but I am sure it was before Q4 results were in. While I took some grief over the statement on another board (no, roni, it's all about iPods and iPhones), I maintained that position.
I am pretty confident I was correct then and still am - even with an economic slowdown. I said and continue to maintain that Apple is near the start of an accelerating Mac growth curve.
lango <I'd say the bigger reason is Mr. Jobs' narcissism and control-freak tendencies, combined with a gap in generational experience. If he doesn't "get it" or personally crave it, then it's pointless, stupid, wrong or irrelevant, and Apple ain't gonna do it.>
Your obsequious devotion to Mr. Jobs continues to amaze me.
Despite a drumbeat of FUD and nattering nabobs of negativism
None here, of course, where only smart opinions and raw nerves are exposed, I bought more Apple.
These shares are in and IRA that I will not be able to access for 3.5 years without penalty (no, that does not make me feel old :))
I think they will do all right. This may not be the buy lowest point, but my hypothesis is that it was a buy low point.
The husband of a colleague is a neuro-scientist who lives on research grants. He just burned some equipment money buying one of those new 8-core pros and tricked out SSD MacBook Air. Spent enough to get a call from Apple congratulating him and offering help.
I asked her once what software he used for this science. She said "he writes his own"
Way over my head :)
Chuckle
I am sad that he is sad.
We are all Luddites
But I love my iPhone. It is great. I do not, however, watch video on it :)
You guys are all a lot smarter than I am, I guess.
I added some shares this morning and have enough cash for several more like sized adds. I also doubled my monthly contribution to my 401k equiv.
By the end of the year I might even be buying CYT - which is supposed to do double the XLF.
Buy low. Buy low. It is part of the equation.
Is it low now? I think so.
Oh, and does Apple have some cash? Could someone remind us of just how much?
thanks in advance.
Heading home.
Chat??
OT: roni, where you been?
1) Hiding under stacked desks :).
2) Old friend died - was the best man at our wedding almost 30 years ago.

Anyone else thing AppleTV
is growing up on its way to being a business?
I'm still a bit ambivalent about it, but I think I see through the future_haze tens of millions of units being sold by the end of the decade and many movie rentals, whilst MSFT skates to where the puck was with its Zune and Xboxy movie thingie, whatever that is.
Investorvillage. eom.
From another post on another board (same galaxy, though).
S&P etc..
If I had mine made and could generate enough income from T-bills, I would be there in a New York minute :). I would keep a small portion in a self-managed account, because I have grown to like this as a hobby, and have done all right at it.
A good chunck of our retirement will come from pensions - rock solid public employee pensions from two different state pension funds, both in good financial shape. I suspect we will also get Social Security.
The rest is in:
1) A 457 plan - 401k equiv for public employees - up 14.5% in 2006, 7.5% in 2007 - no employer match in that account, but...
2) A defined contribution portion in our pension - the college kicks in 6% of our salaries, the Oregon Investment Council manages it - up about 14% in 2006, don't have the 2007 results yet.
Self-managed IRAs - up 102% since July 1 2005 - do not have longer term data right now. I made some major changes then and that is when I started tracking performance.
I guess I would say we are on the many small pots of money and we won't starve retirement plan . I am 56 now and can retire in 3 1/2 years, if I chose to.
How many of you are investing in S&P 500 index funds or ETFs as the majority of your investing dollar?
Didn't think so. Me neither. I'll take my returns over the S&P 500 and the treasuries, so far. Mebbe I'll lose it all soon, who knows??
YABO? eom Yes
I did, twice on Friday and once today
January 2009 180's and 200's
May the Goddesses have mercy on my soul
(or dumbass, whichever comes first).
Spitsong: "I take today as a positive sign ... one more big buying op before MacWorld."
I treated it that way, buying one lot of Jan 2009 LEAPs between the first big drop and the second one :).
I think I shall buy another Monday morning
I hope you're right. A similar move sure made me some money back in November (I think that is when it happened .
sinclap, I like inexpensive hardware as much as
make that probably more than the next dude.
However, I also like what Apple did for my retirement plans last year. I think I will like it this year also.
So, I'll just be a dumb happy investor and watch sales of Mac computers continue to skyrocket for the next few years. There is absolutely zero need to license OS X to other box builders at this point in time, as far as I am concerned.
Some probably disagree.
So, buy a MacBook and run Windows on it, playing like it is an Acer.
The Acer runs Windows
Have fun with it.
Mow many MB's of usage
347 MB's since I bought it the first weekend it was on sale, but I stopped using it for email about two months after buying it. I do not need to look at email that often :)
iPhone limitations
No, I am not at all frustrated. I am delighted by the phone on a regular basis.
That said, I don't text, I don't connect to corporate email and flash irritates me :)
I use the iPhone mostly as a phone, an iPod and a web browser and a pocket camera.
lango and blue
I think flash drives are getting inexpensive enough for those who want to be bleeding edge can copy a few movies to a flash drives.
Seems like a dandy way for companies to consider as a costumer option for software and content distribution
Just a moment to remember fbe and sfme
Two AppleTalkers from way back who introduced me to precious metals investing.
Today I feel very grateful to them.
