TD Ameritrade has them. Wow! What a spread.
Thank you. I will double check with my tax guy.
Thanks Peter. I'll adjust my plan accordingly. Some how I'll get it to work.

Nobody would cheer a higher price more than I.
Thanks for the GL,

My understanding of the tax laws is that the proceeds are not taxable until the transaction is closed or the position expires (I could be wrong and I will check).
I am planning to purchase what will be or "tax" home in a more tax friendly state than we are currently residing in. I want this to happen in 2012 and I expect to need some capital for this in very early '12. I don't want the capital gains in '11 as our current state of residence is not so friendly. I don't want to wait to sell since every time I attempt that strategy it seems to go against me.
So, by selling the 7.50 calls for $3.50 each, I have locked in an $11.00 sale price and delayed the taxes unless the shares decline below $7.50.
Another reason for selling such deep in the money calls (not my reason) is to effectively trade shares I own without recognizing the taxes on the whole trade. The deep in the money calls should almost fluctuate directly with the price of the underlying shares, whereas calls that are closer to the share price would have a premium, but wouldn't track the underlying price as closely. If the shares decline, one could purchase the calls back and only recognize the income on the difference.
BTW, my cost on these shares is about $2.75. Also, these shares are not a significant portion of my overall position. I'm still a big believer in Ariad.
Those are my thoughts.

I sold Jan 7.5 calls today. Just playing around. Tired of so much movement without pulling any triggers so I finally did. If ARIA goes straight north you have me to thank.

Thanks, 2da
2da,
I don't understand. For every 2 contracts don't you get the right to purchase 200 shares at $5.00? And what's your reference to $15 in Feb.?
Please help.

Who wrote on your stomach??
Merrill's neutral allows them to go to Ariad and trade them a buy rating from their analyst in exchange for handling the next equity offering.
Oh, I forgot, they have a Chinese Wall between the I-Bankers and the analysts. Yeah right.

I'm easily confused, but if the PUTS were sold at the bid doesn't that mean someone either sold them naked or closed out a position where they held the puts (both bullish??)? And considering the volume for the day is 7,519 and the open interest is 438, it sounds like someone closed a position.
What am I missing?
Harvey has stated that he has neve sold a single share of Ariad.
AK-PRO... I believe the only accessible record of individuals would be shareholders that hold Ariad in their own name (relatively few) versus those that hold them in a brokerage account which is known as being held in Street Name. In order to know who those individuals holders are, one would have to get access to each brokerage companys' records. That's my understanding.
My biggest mistakes in the market have all been, selling too soon. I have been tempted to sell ARIA at these prices, but I remind myself of what I thought Ariad could be some say. We aren't there yet.
If I sell and Ariad moves up, Those shares are gone for good. I can't sell at one price and jump back in at a higher price. That's just me.
I'm hanging in there as I think the pps will be much higher in the, not too distant, future.

Send me a message at rumrunner528@yahoo.com and be specific as to the wording of your question.
I'll try to check my email before I leave.

I don't think Berger has ever made a big announcement at an Annual Meeting.

Hey yo, 200% return per year on an annualized basis for the past 11 years.
That's better than the Beardstown Ladies' Investment Club.
Congrats
Rummy
qutrader - I didn't mean that as a comment against you...I was just saying...(sorry if it reads that way)

These pullbacks are not bearable...they are opportunities. I've said it before, I've made many mistakes in the market, but my biggest mistakes (by far) have been selling too early. Taking your profits on an awesome stock won't make you poor, but it won't make you "well off" either.
I don't post often, but I've been around a very long time. Luckily I've been buying the dips for many years. I haven't held in there this long so I could sell at $8 or $9.

If anyone in Lamarche's position had even a hint that bad news was pending and sold shares they would be asking for a vacation to Martha Stewart's former quarters.
Don, I completely agree. Many things could happen between now and the time when the Rida results are known. The results are just one variable.
Harvey took the safe route and now puts up with the "Monday morning QB's" on the message boards. Had he waited and the market turned down (for any one of many reasons) he would have looked like a total fool.
The message board critics can afford to speculate on timing, I'd rather have Harvey take the prudent route.
This says nothing about his confidence in Rida.
Buy more on the dips.

Will we finally have good news that will pop the pps and hold it. It may be as there was no pre-announcement run-up.
Based on the history of price action in ARIA, the pps will rise prior to any good news. Once the press release is issued the stock will sell off.
Doesn't that bother anyone. The SEC is totally useless and incompetent.
