Makes you wonder doesn't it, if YA has somehow taken a shine to NEOM and wants them to succeed as a real company...
Exactly! Make no mistake about it. YA does what YA does! There sole objective is to make as much money as they can within the framework of their chosen business model.
However, every now and then everyone comes across that truly rare diamond in the rough, which when found, cleaned, polished and properly cut represents that once in lifetime opportunity.
All Great businesses have these three things in common:
-Their product must be proprietary
-Their product must have mass appeal and
-They have to be committed for the long term.
I think even YA gets this. That’s why they have a giant 2-d code etched in glass in their offices.
Ultimately they will do what is best for them and the shareholders hopefully will tag along for this life changing ride. Even IM who can cash out for what might seem like a fortune at the end of this year has to see what NEOM truly can be and how much he can make if he sees this through to fruition.
5 years from now how will these folks feel if they sell out for the quick buck instead of hanging in for the real prize that awaits them, both tangible and intangible.
I believe NEOM is that diamond in the rough and their business model fulfills the above criteria.
Now the question is does YA and IM?
The end of the story has not been written. (Thanks Doc!)

Hey, no problem.
I just searched through my files and I have found them. Don't know how to post a pic on this board so if someone can give me there e-mail address I will send them the pics and they can post.

I too, had the honour of meeting the good Dr. at the SHM a few years back. I had occasion to have lunch with him and talk with him at the airport as we headed back home to Toronto together. This NEOM ride we are all apart of, brought us together in person and in the Cyber World. It has been a big part of my life, Dr. Mikes as well as most of us here. However we are all part of a larger journey on this earth. Dr. Mike was a decent, intelligent and humble man. He will be missed by all.
Sometimes a Cigar is just a Cigar.
RIP Dr. Mike
note: I also know he lives in Hogs Hollow beside Paul Coffey. I will try to get by today and offer my personal condolences. I also have pics of us all from the SHM and will look them up.

I have believed they have been tied into NEOM for quite
some time now. Should find out soon...
Crusher
"Gee maybe Microsoft might try to leap frog ahead of Google on the mobile side"
Absolutely. If MSFT remains status quo, its all but Game, Set and Match for them. They realize this and they also see that they cannot take a rifled approach to this new paradigm shift. If they do, they run the risk of travelling too far down a path that might be the wrong path. They must remain very flexible and have the ability to switch gears on a dime. They have to keep all options open. This will allow them to respond to the fast changing landscape that is, the world of mobile marketing, the final frontier, so to speak. That's why they must plan for all contingencies (Direct/Indirect, Patent holders, Carriers, Ecosystems, Antitrust etc.)
Its
GO TIME...
Its
Innovate or Die, Time...
I believe MSFT gets it...
I too believe we see Big News very Soon...

Apparently our friend, as he states himself is "...wildly uninformed...!"
I would like to say to our Brother Owens that there is no shame in not knowing every nuance or business detail that has transpired with Google or any other company in the Mobile World.

It is my understanding that Google had an offer on the table to purchase the Bar Point patents. It was CF that beat Google to the punch and aquired these patents from right under Google's nose.

I think SB's JB is playing a very dangerous game. I believe NEOM's strategy is to offer fair and reasonable licensing terms. However if SB wants to push this out as far as possible in hopes that NEOM might not be around. Well then they run the risk of paying a higher licensing fee to a company who is playing fair from a company that is well, just playing games.
Crusher
Be Confident,
I'm with you on MSFT re: NDA
They have known about NEOM for a very long time...
http://scoble.weblogs.com/2004/07/01.html
From Robert Scoble's (Chief technical officer @ MSFT) blog
Killer camera phone application: barcodes and search
It's not every day that you get to see a killer application for the first time. Today was such a day.
Chas Fritz, chairman of Neomedia Technologies and Diane Heiser, account manager, bought me lunch. No, that wasn't the killer application. But it was pretty nice!
While munching on my hamburger (hey, I'm a cheap date) he pulled out his cell phone. Then he pulled out a deodorant product. He said something like "imagine you're in a supermarket and you want to see if you're getting the best price on something, like, say, this deodorant product." Then he aimed his camera phone (it was a standard old Nokia 3650, albeit with a plastic macro lens attached to it so it could do closeup shots) at the barcode on the back. He snapped a picture. Said "look at this, it's connecting to our Web service." After a few seconds a Web page came back with a variety of information on the product and competitive pricing.
Now, this was obviously a bit of a mocked up demo, but it floored me. I hadn't seen anyone actually demo such a thing. He did something similar with his business card (it has a barcode on it). Up came his personal web page (where's your weblog Chas?)
He told me to imagine that every household item with barcode on it now is interactive. Imagine you're a manufacturer. You can give interactive coupons to people to try to get them to switch to your product.
I started getting into it. Imagine you're at a bus stop in Seattle. Did you know there's a Web service that shows you where the next bus is located and how far away it is? At every bus stop there could be a bar code. You aim your camera at the bar code. Get back the Web service that'll tell you how long you need to wait for your next bus.
Back to his demo. Then he pulled out "Smart Mobs," the famous book by Howard Rheingold. He pointed his cell phone at the bar code on the back. The retail price was $29.95. His Web service went and found a better price on Amazon (and he would be able to order the book easily without keying in any information).
So, why was Chas pitching me on this? Because his company, he says, owns patents for putting barcodes to use in searching the Web for information. Putting cell phone users in touch with companies directly. Imagine playing a Coca Cola game online. Point your phone at a can of Coke and the Web service would tell you whether or not you won. And, of course, would happily email you some coupons for your next Coke purchase.
By the way, thanks to Scott Shafer for setting up the lunch and being persistent in getting me to see this demo. Interesting stuff!

My Take for what its worth...
Of course, NEOM's lawyers knew the court date.
Absolutely, 110%. They chose not to attend because
they were not officially notified and therefore
not compelled to attend. After all that has transpired
and what presently is taking place, management has made
the conscience decision not to attend for specific and well thought out strategic reasons.
NEOM's lawyers crazy?

MTP,
I think you have hit the nail on the head on that one. I too saw the video and it was very authentic and professionally produced. There is no way it would have been created unless it was a done deal. I too think that the final consummation of the deal is predicated on other outcomes as you have stated.
This is why S.W. is so enthused about this company, twice making it his pick of the month. He has been privy to AQUI business plan and he obvious Likes what he Sees. There is talk of turning this company into the next Snapple and becoming a giant Beverage Company.
Everything in Time.
From EDS.
I had the pleasure of meeting and spending two days with the CEO of AquaGold International Mr. Manuel Da Silva.I am not only very impressed with the business plans but overwhelmed at what has been put together with their China connections and how that got established. This relationship with China did not come overnight, its been an ongoing relationship for a decade. According to MR. Da Silva, China is very careful with who they work with as all their business relationships are built through years of trust and respect.
Ontario based Iroquois Water is currently bottling AquaGold International spring water for China with massive orders ready to fulfill. Mr. Da Silva is a visionary and his vision of AquaGold International becoming a giant Beverage Company with the focus of distributing fresh spring bottled water to countries such as China is about to become reality.
The EricDavid Newsletter has followed AquaGold International for 3 months going. I am very pleased and honored to advise my readers that we are now officially engaged with AquaGold International and are launching a world-wide Investor awareness program. Moving forward in the short and long term will bring lots of major press and news.Revenues for sales of bottled water are expected to be huge and the Company will be putting together an audit to become fully reporting. As reported in our two text CEO interviews, the share structure will remain the same, this means no reverse splits, in fact I was told by Mr. Da Silver that there will absolutely be no need for that and feels the Market and new Shareholder base will absorb the float. I too agree with that statement.
Remember
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step!!
That step has only just been taken...
Lets sit back and watch this unfold to the giant it will become...
Crusher
Absolutely... It is my belief that the initial orders are low because they are just that, initial orders. I think they have flexibility built into these contracts and it wouldn't surprise me in the least if these orders get increased as time goes by.
Crusher
That's what I like as well. The $500M is just the base line beginning. Starting from ground zero with no momentum, advertising or word of mouth. I see this company growing sales Yr. over Yr. at a very high rate over the next 5 yrs. as the word gets out and their product line increases. Then when you factor in increasing demand and scarcity of clean drinking water world wide you can see that their business model is sound and the $1 pps near term is well within reach.
The snivelling around here is from flippers who most likely wont be here a year from now. This is a process and for AQGO to execute on their plan, they will need time. And I for one will be patient enough to give it to them. Remember "Every journey of a thousand miles begins with one first small step" AQGO has just starting to take its first few steps and over time they will get to their destination...
