Holy smokes...
It's back up over $26 again. How much higher can this thing go with no fundamentals?
Re: They did a split?
Back when it was still a pretend stock they did a 2:1 split. Never Knew the reason why. You should have received your new share serial numbers by e-mail if you kept your information up to date.
How did you get 20, and I only got 8? lol
3 for registering at web site,
1 additional, up to 7 (total of 10) for getting others to register.
Then they did a 2 for 1 stock split.
Re: lol - I still have my 8 free shares that the company gave me before they were even public for signing up for their site years ago!
I have 20 shares, got them the same way.
Re: I have been keeping an eye on it.
Any ideas as to why it is taking off?
None at all. I've been reading the Yahoo board where there's all the usual speculation, but nothing in the way of real information.
TZOO is on fire!

Disney Imploding
This morning Roy Disney resigned from the Disney Board of Directors. Tonight Stanley Gold resigned from the Board. Now I see this on Drudge:
"SOURCES: In an interview set for publication in Tuesday's LOS ANGELES TIMES, Gold and Disney vow to mount a campaign to lobby investors and employees to make the case that Eisner should go..."
Regardless of what you think of Matt Drudge, he does have contacts and he gets information.

Motorola may not have benefitted from this, short term.
MOT may not have been energized by the Microsoft news, but it was certainly energized by this news: The Motorola Board of Directors finally gave Chris Galvin the boot Friday. The news broke after the close, and MOT stock instantly rose 24¢, or 2% in afterhours on Instinet. This will be one to watch. Here's Forbe's take on it:

Hi, saw Larry's post on the Beer board, had to stop by. This is an incredible site if it works. Question: Why can I get only about 3 links on this page to play music? Only one of Missy's wav's plays, and a couple of Midi's from Larry and Wannabe. My cable connection is 500 kbps so that can't be the problem. Just wondering.

My oppinion is that whatever is going to happen in the markets/economy can not possibly be predicted right now and for at least another year so be cautious. - harrytc1
Kurt and Harry,
I've being especially cautious but I don't have myself to credit. When the market soured, I soured to the market, quit watching Kangas, Rukeyser and all the others. I even quit reading message boards, if you can believe that, and actually found other things to do. I'm also still trying to nurse my margined accounts back to health, so I've been in no position to buy stocks even if I had wanted to.
But now I'm thinking that in years to come we're going to look back on these days and realize that it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I still can't buy big, as I still have some margin to take care of, but if we were to see a collapse as you're both saying, I'd definitely like to use the opportunity to pick up a few extra shares. The picking shouldn't be too difficult, any company (even the dot-coms) that have survived the past 3 years most likely are for real. The hard part is figuring out which ones have the greatest potential and the best share price.

Re: I couldn't resist
IMO the drop will be very sadden and rough, crash like. - harrytc1
Hi Harry,
I don't think it'll be that bad, but even if your dire prediction comes true, there's a silver lining. We all know now that the market has bottomed, and will rise again. I would welcome one more chance to pick up a few shares at rock bottom prices. Your crash scenario might afford me that opportunity.
DickMN
Profit taking
I predicted profit taking, but I relied on my record of being wrong to save the day. I didn't expect the new valuation to hold, but this is ridiculous. We're almost back to where we were before the Nuon news broke. I think the market should definitely assign some value to the Nuon project, and the stock price should rise. Hopefully today's knee jerk reaction to the earnings news from IBM and Nokia caused an oversold condition and the market will rebound Friday, raising all boats, including ELON.
DickMN
Re: Meme - Will this do?
Do you think it will hold and go further for a couple of days or is this a one day deal?
I'm expecting major profit taking tomorrow, once investors have had time to digest it. Any significant earnings from it are 2 years off. People are more interested in earnings right now. But remember, historically, I'm wrong far more than I'm right.
I still love the news, though, it was getting really old watching ELON sit and grow mold. Now, it would appear, they have actually been working their little butts off behind the scene.
DickMN
Meme - Will this do?
Yes, m'lady, it certainly will!! Gee, what should I ask for next? )

Press Release

Echelon Announces Successful Resolution of Dispute with Enel
Thursday July 10, 4:15 pm ET
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 10, 2003--Echelon Corporation (Nasdaq:ELON - News), the creator of the LonWorks® device networking platform for connecting everyday devices to each other and the Internet, announced today that it has successfully resolved the previously disclosed contractual dispute with Enel S.p.A., the Italian utility that is integrating Echelon's LonWorks technology into its remote metering management project, the Contatore Elettronico.
As previously announced, Echelon and Enel had a dispute related to the transition from the current version of the metering kit that Echelon sells to Enel's meter manufacturers to the latest generation of the metering kit based on Echelon's PL 3120® Power Line Smart Transceiver. Echelon had previously agreed to sell additional units of the current generation of metering kits to ease Enel's transition process, and Enel had agreed to make additional payments of approximately $3 million to Echelon in connection with these additional units, so long as certain milestones were achieved by specified dates. Enel has now agreed that Echelon has met the milestones as set forth in the original agreement between the parties. Enel has been invoiced $2.7 million of the $3 million total to be billed in accordance with this agreement. Echelon expects that the full $3 million of revenue from the sale of the additional units will be recognized for accounting purposes in the third quarter of 2003.
"We are pleased to have resolved this issue with Enel without the need for arbitration and without impacting the Contatore Elettronico project," said Ken Oshman, Echelon's chairman and CEO. "We believe that the project remains on track and continues to meet our and Enel's expectations. In fact, in what we see as a very positive sign, in late May, Dow Jones news reported what we believe to be the first public confirmation by Enel of the system's benefits, saying that Enel's CEO stated at its annual shareholder meeting that Enel would 'reap EUR400 million a year beginning in 2005 from cost-cutting and improved efficiency deriving from the installation of 30 million electronic meters.'"

Echelon settles dispute with Enel
The PR sounds like Echelon has flat out won the dispute with Enel, but at what cost? Sure wish Echelon would get some more utility action going, we need more than one project. Right now they seem to have all their eggs in one fragile basket.

Re: Dammit, I wrote a long response to your post and the preview timed out and I lost it.
FWIW - I learned (the hard way) that it's a good idea when creating a document on the computer, whether a posting, e-mail, etc., to paste the text into a Notepad document and keep the Notepad minimized at the bottom of the screen. With each added paragraph I either re-Copy & Paste the Notepad document or start a new one and delete the previous one. It only takes a few seconds if you keep a link to Notepad in your Start Menu. Not only does it end the frustration of lost posts, but even if you have a total OS crash, Windows will ask if you want to save the Notepad document as a .txt file. Then it's simply a matter of rebooting the computer and picking up where you left off. The only thing you need to remember is making a note of where Windows is stashing that saved text file.

Johnpol who posted after you is a new member, a "free" new member! What's up with dat?
iHub has memberships? This is a pay site? I haven't been around iHub enough to keep up with the changes. Last I remember, Matt was putting banner ads on the pages and everybody was mad about that. Is Matt Brown still running things here? I saw nothing wrong with banner ads, but I'm surprised that he went to charging for memberships. Am I a member? I must be, since I'm posting here. Do we all have to pay? I haven't paid anything. How do they go about deciding who's a member, just whoever is willing to pay? I can't think that would attract much of a following, but maybe it does.
I've noticed messages with photos, I used to imbed a few photos myself, but I don't remember how I did it. If Matt is still here and trying to weed out the riffraff with memberships, it hasn't worked since you and I are still here.

Since you put it that way, how can I possibly refuse? Besides, sweetie, it's your board, remember? I can't remember the last time I posted there myself, or even followed Echelon. I see that GGraessle is over there talking to him/herself, and you don't know what that person might have to offer your discussion.
There should be one caveat, though; if ELON ever gets out of the doldrums we should be able to work in the occasional reference to it.

Re: Okay, this sucks!
Of course, we could move the discussion to another board of mine here...hmmm. I wonder if my two ELON posters would get upset? <G>
Really Memes, the very audacity of even suggesting such a thing! I can't speak for all of the posters on the ELON board, but I think it's a terrible idea. With all of the postings over there, it's hard enough keeping the board read without the infusion of the silly dribble from this board. You might consider taking the discussion to the Beer board, perhaps a more appropriate place for it anyway. Remember, though, that all postings must be somehow related to the subject of beer. )

Disney may sell Infoseek
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&ncid=582&e=3&cid=582&u=/nm/20030311/wr_n...
Disney Says Could Sell Infoseek Assets
PALO ALTO, Calif. (Reuters) - The head of Walt Disney Co.'s (NYSE:DIS - news) Internet unit on Monday said the company has been in discussions to sell the Web search technology it acquired in two boom-era deals valued at more than $2 billion.
Larry Shapiro, executive vice president of operations and business for the Walt Disney Internet Group, told Reuters that the company had been approached by Web-search providers who are looking to buy Infoseek's patents and technology.
"If we got the right price we'd certainly consider it," said Shapiro, who declined to give further details.
In 1998, Disney bought approximately 40 percent of Internet search engine provider Infoseek for $70 million.
A year later, the media conglomerate bought the rest of Infoseek in a stock deal worth $2.15 billion, merged its Internet assets with Infoseek and created a tracking stock called Go.com.
Disney since has since converted the tracking stock back into common shares and adopted a much more scaled-back approach to Web business, including working with partners like Microsoft Corp (Nasdaq:MSFT - news) to provide family-friendly Internet service.
By early 2001, Disney had mothballed the Infoseek technology and pared down Go.com's money-losing operations.
On Monday, Disney said it had picked leading Web search company Google (news - external web site) Inc. to provide search and search-based advertising services on its gateway Go.com Web site and other Disney-owned Web properties.
Several large search company acquisitions have been announced in recent months.
In December, Internet media company Yahoo Inc. (Nasdaq:YHOO - news) said it planned to pay $235 million for Internet search-software maker Inktomi Corp. (Nasdaq:INKT - news)
Last month, Web advertising company Overture Services Inc. (Nasdaq:OVER - news) said it intended to buy search pioneer AltaVista Co. (news - external web site) (Nasdaq:ALTA - news) for $140 million and to acquire the Web search assets of Norway-based Fast Search and Transfer for up to $100 million. Analysts said the deals would help Overture beef up its search capabilities while it battles with rival Google.

Curse the thought, not that they don't deserve each other! I lost a bunch in SEEK/GO/DIG/DIS. I came to my senses and bailed as soon as the final merger of DIG and DIS was announced, but it was too late to save my investment. I don't own any AOL, but I subscribe to their service. If a AOL/DIS merger were announced I'd drop AOL the same day. I intend to stay as far away as possible from anything connected to Disney.

Re: I'm going to take a stab...
<< I'm going to take a stab at this and say you're from Minnesota and your name is Dick? How did I do? >>
You are right on both counts. Dang, how'd you do it? I'm just sitting on my ELON, bought some right after the IPO and added a few shares at 13 a couple years ago, now wish I hadn't. I was plenty excited about ELON when they IPO'd, the excitement has since waned, but that has more to do with the burst tech bubble than ELON. I still hope it will go places in time, or I wouldn't hold it, but I'm at a loss as to when or where it will go. The connectivity market just hasn't materialized the way I thought it would, but again, that could have something to do with the state of the high tech sector as a whole.
