Question for Bob Z, can u let us know before the january 31 deadline whether you are moving the non paying posting privileges to 10 or 5 if possible, I think that if I knew what your future plans were it would make the decision easier on whether I should pay for the lifetime, thanks
arthritis thanks, good luck to u eom
sjratty i remember reading many media articles saying that special masters report favored interdigital, from different newspapers around the country, i am sure someone here will know which ones and post it
Most settlements occur from two weeks and in until trial date, obviously this does not mean it is guaranteed, but in my opinion i think the two sides are discussing settlement right now and both sides want to get the most possible and until the final hour approaches, they will continue to try and get the best deal, i do not worry about today, just general market conditions, until the iraq situation resolves it will be hard to move stocks
good luck all
Longs any thoughts on the afterhours price of 16.42 seems like a big bump from the close
Bob Zumbrunnen, thank you for the chance, I will stay on topic from now on, my question to the board because i just got on and have not gone through the posts, any update on the Pacer filings, thanks
To all and Jimlur: I don't understand one minute you say that you can't regulate bashers, then I give my opinion on another board, I don't break any rules here and I lose my posting privilege,
I now can only post 3 times instead of 18, so I guess u can regulate bashers, this was the premise of my original argument, now for some on this board to act immature and get upset because i invited bashers to present a negative view is something i don't understand, many of you have posted links on all message boards, the bashers know where to go if they so chose, i was just merely making a point that a board is not worth money if it can't be restricted for bashers who are clearly trying to influence price of stock,
i am not referring to negative posters who have to have a place in order to present their dissenting view, now what do i get for illustrating that point, i get banned from the clubboard and lose my 18 limit on this one, now if i paid for the lifetime subscription do i still have this 3 post penalty in effect
is this communism, i did not use profanity, personally attack anyone, spam, try to influence price, i presented my opinion on another board, and because you did not like it u decided to censor me, what country are we living in, i find this unfair, u know what if the powers that be decide that i can't post here fine, i will save time and just read, but i feel that this rips the integrity out of any board you are trying to create
i think if most posters look at what i say objectively they will see that i am justified, now i did not even get a warning, i have seen way worst posts on here and other boards and i get booted
so are u saying that if i paid for the subscription i could lose my posting ability based on somebody who does not like what i say, who has the power to do this, and mind u, this was for a post from another board, what if someone created an alias on another board and posted pretending to be me, who decides if that really was me, am i allowed to defend myself, does not someone have to offer proof
i could easily pay for the lifetime or come back as another alias, but i choose to be genuine, i am curious to see how the person responsible for banning me chooses to deal with this, i feel i should be allowed to post, remember freedom of speech includes dissenting views and it is for everyone not just for words you agree with
i have a hard time believing that the people that run this board do not embrace these ideals, i have a hard time believing that they practice or endorse gestapo tactics, remember i followed the rules you created, but you did not follow the rules of the ruler, u have abused your power, remember power is a responsibility
Good Luck All
jim what was the point of the move if bashers have access, i think this is a sucker move, and i think anyone who pays for a site that will become a circus like yahoo is making a mistake, do u realize that once clowns like marketmaker start posting here it will become a circus
i actually encourage marketmaker to come here as i think it was a mistake to leave clubboard
this is all jmho
jim what does that do for anybody eom
The insider selling is the reason this stock lost momentum at 19.50, if it wasn't for the insider sells we would probably be in the 20's right now, i don't think it reflects on the settlement, but no matter how u look at it , it does not make sense
actually i was wrong, u do have to hit refresh button on this site to see new messages, honestly folks is there anything here that u can't do at raging bull, we are all here to read and post messages, beyond that who cares, i mean i will stay and post because everyone left the other board, but u guys make it sound like this is great, it still does the same,
i am here to read and post, and actually my ability to post is limited to 18, and i don't care how much money i make to pay over one hundred dollars is stupid, let this company make money by doing something worthwile
but i can do everything without paying, i will say also, that without hitting refresh i see the new posts which did not happen on rb
it seems like a better site than rb but it does not warrant paying for a lifetime subscription
mickeybritt, if u think this case will come down to your brand of simplistic thinking then u should extend your stay in disney world because right now u seem to be swimming in the paradise of the ignorant
with all due respect, the fact that you keep repeating this is mind boggling the case will come down to the evidence plain and simple, this is not fantasy island
jimlur, the fifteen minutes feature is available to everyone right now
jimlur, nothing u have posted is worth spending over one hundred dollars just for the sake of spending, i would rather give it to the church, there is absolutely no need for a lifetime subscription, soon this board will be extinct and u will be on to some other board, also if u want to get rid of popups just get zone alarm and u will get rid of all popups all over the internet
please help, anyone know of a site that has all 3 futures of nasdaq dow and s p for the start of next session, something that is as accurate as cnbc world
any price predictions for next week eom
There is a website that has all 3 links to the 3 major message boards, investor hub, yahoo, and ragingbull, so u don't have to go through the 3 or 4 pages of getting to the idcc board, just go to www.jeepcompass.com and the 3 links are at the bottom, i think this helps unless u have another way of getting directly to the idcc board
jimlur, i have to say so far so good, it is easy to read and so far no jerks on the board, what are your feelings on the month of january, any personal prognostications
ATT LONGS IDCC mentioned in article, has anyone seen or posted this
Jack Sirard: 2nd-tier growth stocks touted
Capital area's armchair analysts rebuff tech stocks and blue chips.
By Jack Sirard -- Bee Staff Writer
Published 2:15 a.m. PST Sunday, December 29, 2002
After three years of tough times on Wall Street, most Sacramento-area investors are cautiously optimistic about 2003.
When asked to name their favorite stock for the new year, very few chose a high-tech name and even fewer named a genuine blue-chip stock.
Instead, Bee readers are charting their own courses, ignoring the household names in favor of a wide variety of second-tier growth stocks.
A few weeks back, I asked for readers' picks for the one best stock for 2003, and the investment ideas flowed in.
For instance, Misty Miller of Sacramento is banking on Golden West Financial Corp., the holding company for World Savings Bank, headquartered in Oakland.
Miller says she "likes the stock because I believe World Savings Bank has the best customer service in the industry and an extremely safe and conservative investment outlook."
The bank, which has several branches in Sacramento, shines in the customer service arena, she says.
She says the bank (ticker symbol GDW, current price $72.57) "conforms to the original intent of savings and loans" in securing deposits from local residents and loaning money for mortgages in the local market.
The company has had a positive earnings record for many years, Miller adds, and the board of directors has more women than men -- generally unheard of in America's corporate world.
In no particular order, here is a selection of choices from other readers:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THQ Inc. (THQI, $13) -- Jim Pedroarena of Davis recommends this company that develops and distributes interactive entertainment software for the home video game market. Its main competitor is Electronic Arts. "Although it has suffered a significant drop in its stock value over the past few months, I believe it will continue to grow its market share over the next few years and should experience a rebound year in 2003," he says.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
InterDigital Communications Corp. (IDCC, $15.20) -- Gary Wiest of Carmichael says that InterDigital is a highly respected company with innovative products and patents. Prevailing in a lawsuit against communications giant Ericcson in February would result in a domino effect with other patents IDCC holds, he says.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Liberty Media (L, $8.51) -- Maryann Sangegret of Nevada City says that as the U.S. economy improves, so will the advertising industry, and she calls John Malone a great chief executive officer.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Headwaters (HDWR, $15.31) -- Mark Mainardi of Fair Oaks says the company's original business was changing coal sludge to clean-burning briquettes. The business was profitable based on a tax credit for alternative fuels. Last year it bought a company that recycles fly ash into cement, quadrupling its revenues and providing sounder earnings. However, its coup was buying a small company, Hydrocarbon Technologies, last year that has a process for turning coal into clean-burning diesel fuel, Mainardi says.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sun Microsystems (SUNW, $3.25) -- Bill Elkus of Roseville has been tracking Sun for over a year and investing in it from $11.20 down to $2.58. "They have $5 billion in cash, and earnings are on the positive side. I think it will move up to $l2 to $l5 next year," he says.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pixar Animation Studios Inc. (PIXR, $53.29) -- Barry Hacker of Granite Bay says the company has a great product, a top CEO in Steve Jobs and talented staff, is making money and has had a nice appreciation in stock price over the last 12-18 months.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chesapeake Energy Corp. (CHK, $7.91) -- Mark Sankus, who reads The Bee via the Internet in Koriyama, Japan, says Chesapeake Energy is now one of the top 10 independent energy companies. Two years ago it was among the top 15. The number of employees has increased from about 460 two years ago to 677 at the last reported count. The company has made some acquisitions over the years. Chesapeake Energy does have a lot of debt, but Sankus thinks it is in good shape and that it will continue to grow.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sanmina-SCI Corp. (SANM, $4.25) -- Barbara Stearns of Roseville says she has owned the maker of electronic circuit boards in the past and it did very well. "Even though it's gone down, I believe it is a very good company. I bought some a few weeks ago at $3.05 a share," she adds.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
McCormick & Co. (MKC, $23.06) -- Al Innes of Lincoln says McCormick is the largest spice company in the world and in April had another 2-for-1 stock split. Year to date, the stock is up 12 percent, he adds.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Calpine (CPN, $3.14) -- Bernie Breining of Carmichael likes Calpine because it has a price-to-earnings ratio of less than 5, earnings per share of 73 cents and a low stock price. The company should do well with its energy business, especially as it's the largest supplier of geothermal energy and is firmly established in the field, he says.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Charles & Colvard, Ltd. (CTHR, $5.13) -- William Fenton of Gold River says the company, which makes synthetic gemstones, could enjoy a short run up to as high as $12 a share in the near future. "I have seen their product; it is unique and a good one and will enjoy quite a run until competitors catch up. Competition down the road is why I would not hold the stock very long term," he says.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Intuit (INTU, $47.11) -- Carlos Negrete of Orangevale likes Intuit over the next year because he says it will have increasing revenue due to changes in tax software.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Applied Digital Solutions (ADSX, 41 cents) -- Jim Brown of Cameron Park chose this stock, he says, because it's on the cutting edge of a technology, with its own patents, and offers solutions in personal identification technology, with the aid of global positioning systems. "I chose this stock as I believe that it has great growing potential with its products and patents, the company has signed distribution agreements globally, such as Latin America, Ecuador, Mexico, South American livestock contracts, and pet identification product sales," he says.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Copart Inc. (CPRT, $11.86) -- Doug Nelson of Sacramento says the Benicia-based company provides transportation and auction services of wrecked vehicles for the insurance industry. It has 100 locations, $1.2 billion in revenue and the stock is trading near its 52-week low.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Colgate-Palmolive (CP, $19.63). -- Sonya Cox of Sacramento likes the company's earnings record, its reputation, and the fact that it also makes Science Diet pet foods, increasingly recommended by veterinarians.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Genesis Microchip (GNSS, $13.19) -- Blong Less of Sacramento says the company is a leading provider of image processing systems-on-a-chip solutions that are used worldwide by display manufacturers to produce better images across a broad set of devices, including flat-panel displays, digital TVs, digital CRTs and projectors.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
United Natural Foods Inc. (UNFI), $24.26) -- Paul Wilcox of Penn Valley likes wholesaler United Natural Foods, which is represented locally by Mountain Peoples' Warehouse in Auburn. The company was added to the Domini 400 Index this past year.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CVB Financial Corp. (CVBF, $26.20) -- Edwin Hessel of Roseville says the company is a banking group in Ontario started by a couple of cattle farmers 28 years ago when the big banks wouldn't lend them money. It now has about 30 branches in the L.A. area and is looking to expand into the Central Valley. It has paid a dividend for the last 53 consecutive quarters.

Business tax breaks face state scrutiny
Lenny Goldberg isn't happy about the state's gargantuan budget deficit, but there is one thing about California's depressed economy that makes the longtime tax-reform activist feel pretty good.
Paying price of success
Winning doesn't come cheap, and as the Sacramento Kings climb into the upper echelon of the NBA's elite, so have the costs of operating the team -- and seeing it play.
Renters getting new set of rules
Landlords and tenants could pay a hefty price for not being familiar with two new laws, both effective Jan. 1, that change some of the fundamental rules of rental housing.

Money Matters: What to do with losing variable annuity
Q: I put $140,000 into a variable annuity in 1994. The broker at the time told me to put it mostly in stock funds, which did great for several years. However, the account fell from $331,000 to $190,000 over the past few years. What should I do now? I won't need the money for several years, but I don't want to keep seeing my money fall.

It's time for peach trees to get annual makeover
A worker, at right, moves on to prune more peach trees. He is one of 11 workers who will spend the next two months pruning more than 150 acres of peach trees south of Yuba City. California peach orchards produce half of the nation's fresh peaches and virtually all of the nation's canned peach crop. The state's 18th-largest agricultural commodity, peaches brought in $341 million in 2001. Below, José Luis Fernandez climbs to reach some of the higher branches. While orchards lie dormant in winter, growers have the diseased or dead wood cut away to ensure the trees' health and productivity. When properly pruned, the trees develop a stronger branch system that can support more fruit.
$2 gas on horizon?
Californians could pay $2 a gallon -- or higher -- for gasoline early in the new year when the state makes the transition from gas additive MTBE to ethanol, some energy experts say.
Holiday cheer? Not for retailers
As bargain hunters pounced on heavily discounted merchandise Thursday, retailers scrambled to salvage a holiday shopping season that some experts said will be remembered for producing the worst sales growth in a decade.

i think this is a joke, you are only allowed 3 posts, i just don't see the point, does not matter anyway, settlement is coming in January, this is coming from trusted sources
