Yep DMiller - you confirmed it - I got scalped. Live and learn.
The_Net, I think that trade was me getting scalped at 26.86. My single order was filled in two trades, one at 26.77 and the other at the ask of 26.86. Tomorrow I guess I'll find out just how bad those two trades were.
In the big picture going forward I don't think I'll look back and sweat this too bad - I picked up 400 shares in total on the two trades.
I liked that we see computers as a device in the announcent (no surprise anymore), but by picking up the joint venture it seems we may have alot in this bag. It definitely shows our IP is still respected in Japan, and with multiple parties.
Lately I have been riding IMAX, And several other stocks. I have been selling in increments into the IMAX run the last two days, and it has so far been pretty good to me. Amount-wise it funded 90 percent of the two trades I made in after-hours today.
Two more days till IMAX earnings, and I'm a little worried about Q1 numbers, but the forward guidance should be very positive.
Since dropping the poison pill I have been hoping to slowly re-acquire my prior position in IDCC. With my other stocks lately exceeding the IDCC percentage gains I can't say that I have completely screwed up yet.
Mickey, I bought back one fifth of my IDCC shares today on the news they dropped the poison pill.
I'm not one hoping for an acquisition, but I have always felt the poison pill only served management an not the shareholders. The fact they dropped it says they at least have some concerns about unlocking shareholder value, so I give that a thumbs up.
I plan to be back in more after 2nd quarter. I hope IMAX is good to me. Alice in wonderland 1st weekend take was a nice surprise.
sorry for the doublepost
My only worry to that Mickey is that no buyback means no floor support coming from what is supposed to be the team working toward better shareholder value. Summer trading from here through September can be bigger swings on less volume - it just seems to me they should have some powder for at least buying back good value on dips as a no-brainer prudent move. Not to have an allocation available to them for doing that is basically taking a very good point made from our biggest institutional investor over the years and telling him to stick it.
Do they have money authorized for buyback still, or no? That's one point I am not sure of now is whether they still have money authorized that they could spend on buybacks?

Good point. It certainly is nice to see a friendly relationship going on there. Without the poison pill, even the thought of AT&T as a friendly suitor to an acquisition, along with the the likes of companies like Apple will help to unlock the value of the stock.
Since I didn't call in I can't say much about the confidence or level of excitement of the speakers, but just reading the content of the transcript it seemed like a positive message overall.
I really liked hearing the detail on how the new granted patents could be used in the current appeal to point out how the patent office clearly views the patents, and how that conflicts with the judgest erroneous conclusions. In that light it helps me to understand why they haven't yet initiated a new suit against Nokia with those patents - they may not have too!
I thought for the last couple of quarters they were sort of meandering without a direction, but they seem to me that they are starting to use their rudders again.
Mickey,
After reading the conference call transcript this morning, and looking over the new technology advisory members, along with consideration of the strain that the Apple Iphone traffic has put on AT&Ts network, my prediction is that history will repeat itself with AT&T being the first operator to license/re-license with IDCC. Just a thought on possibilities.
I hope it consists of a long table surrounded by bullies that advise all who enter to sign a license agreement.
Mickey - congrats! IDCC stock will surely rock tomorrow!
As for me, I may take a bath in humility both ways. News also came out after hours of a new round of financing for a Regal, AMC, and Cinemark joint venture to spread 3D digital format all over the country.
IMAX has a superior format and Cinemark has a competing 3D format. The news did not clarify the format that would be used, so I am not sure whether there is any win in this news for IMAX, or if it's a big loss to IMAX.
Over the uncertainty I lightened up on on some of my IMAX shares just before afterhours ended, but still holding a pretty good chunk of humble pie it it's a loss.
I'm really happy for everyone on the board over this news. All I can say really is that my faith in the company was shaken, so here I am. But I am glad to cheer you on and sincerely say Congrats!
Thanks Mickey, and if they were really calling you to the stand I would sell out of IMAX and buy back in IDCC right now. If you couldn't out reason them you could easily wear them down till they raised a white flag.
Mickey,
I took to the sidelines with all of what my IDCC holdings from my Roth IRA a couple weeks back between 25.10 and 25.90 a share. Also why i have no reason to post right now because I wish everyone the very best of luck.
I expect the stock will run on the earnings release, but I had the same exuberant feeling this time last year when they all granted themselves the enormous bonuses. Someone suggested if I don't like the way things are then get out, and I did - for awhile anyway being more than once bitten.
I don't expect the overbaked bonuses this time around, but with Nokia activities not really heating up in the near term I decided I was willing to miss any run-up on this earnings report, and protect myself from any potential dissapointments - I actually think the chances of dissapointments are rather low.
I'm no less risky in what I did with my money, I also have been buying into IMAX and VMWARE, mostly IMAX at fairly high risk. IMAX has already had a good run so it's alot more risky than IDCC really, (I think Jeffree got in early and ran w/his profits). On the heels of Avatar success and some good 3D movies waiting in the wings this summer, I decided to substitute my 3G investment for a 3D investment based on the improving fundamentals, possibly through 2nd quarter earnings at least. I am hoping to make some money and buy back in IDCC before the Nokia legal deadlines or decisions light a fire underneath one party or the other.
If I don't lose my shirt I'll buy back into IDCC as soon as I can, and if I lose my shirt I'll buy back into IDCC as soon as I can
I really like Maude's idea and encourage people to step up. Bill has tirelessly touted the story of IDCC and in key times the website he maintains has certainly provided a completely balanced location for investors to education themselves on IDCC, without concern for the current temperature on any investment forum.
Plus, for those that read Jim's e-mail. Bill had fallen asleep at the wheel and is recovering from an accident that could have claimed his own life. Knowing he will need some recovery time, it would be nice to see him be come home without losing the fruits of all the work and efforts he has invested into the wireless ledger on behalf of IDCC, and primarily his brotherhood of shareholders.

I'll be the first negative poster to send off 25 bucks to Bill. I wish our management would get their act together and see the shareholders past their own greed. And seek to value and reward those shareholders who believed in them for so many years, or up and died waiting around on them.
Hey Mickey - thanks for the invite. I'll surely drop in and stir you up into some kind of trouble from time to time as I'm really good at it. We all must recognize our talents and own up to them I guess.
Very nice to see he's getting all the voting power he can get his hands on
Thanks Jim, I enjoy all of his posts and especially like his earnings projections. I bet every analyst that covers the stock does too Now they have to do those calculations all by themselves!
Sonic22, BN sort of painted them in a corner in that conf. call by asking them "if your not buying in the 19s as a way to make returns what does that say about your perception of the value of your stock shares? I mean are we just BSing ourselves here are what? (paraphrased)". I think he also mentioned their past buy's much higher in the 20s to make his point. Hope my memory is correct on those purchase levels.
Buying in the 23s to 25s will just vindicate his point - now they are damned if they do and damned if they don't. My bet says they have saved face and haven't bought back a single share.
I think they will continue to hide behind the "saving their powder for something bigger" and "you will see a series of smaller investments/partnershlps".
Personally, i would like to see them buying back shares even right now.
There is now way to value these partnerships. I certainly don't see them as bonus-worthy until something positive hits the bottom line, but my bet says they'll take a reward for it now for just doing something and then even more later if it's profitable. Give us something we can measure - ya know, like a dividend
I think he could make them see the light. If not he'll play them best of three in bridge games - winner take all
They need to hire Mickeybritt into one of those positions
IDCC Security patents?
If IDCC really does have some valuable security patents - let's get on it: Infineon's Trusted Platform Module just bit the dust...

Dozer, my derogatory quip didn't add anything to the board and shouldn't have been directed toward Mickey. He's true blue for sure. I reckon after my cathartic post a couple weeks back I should let it all go.
From here on out i'll try not to post unless I have something good to say. Ya know this means ya'll may never hear from me again
Still hoping for better times ahead for IDCC.
Mickey, my apology for prodding you to contact management. It was done jokingly, but i shouldn't have suggested to put on you what I am capable of doing myself had I thought it would help.
OT Yes, I heard things about that too being a local. Hope they are able to turn things around, and maybe solar will take off for them too. My hats off to this guy for not taking advantage in hard times and instead putting it toward the employees training.
Ya, I guess on that same argument they should start giving the rank and file bonuses across the board so that we can All provide support to our community civil workers.
A fine example of ethics regarding bonuses.

Now there is some fiduciary responsibility. To pass instead of double-down would have been an appropriate course of action a year ago when bailing out of the slimchip program, and has management really done anything since that time?
Mickey - why don't you pass this along to IDCC
In light of Ford's similar brake problems, I wonder if Toyota will now sue Ford for infringing their braking system technology
good one! my bad, will link next time news comes around....I'm not holding my breath don't ya know
Nice to see a positive mention by the Fool
Thanks Jimlur, and nicely stated.
Jimlur, how do you and some of the oldest veteran stockholder's ho know the full history of IDCC from past to present feel about this appointment?
I humbly admit that I cannot give an opinion and would like to hear commentary about it from those who can.
Mickey, I admit that I have no idea what they will do. I hope everyone buys more stock, mostly it would be nice to see management try it for a change
Mickey, wouldn't blackrock simply reduce their holdings to get themselves back into a normal investment level on a single stock. IDCC is hardly a blip on the radar screen as part of this merger/acquisition, and they simply haven't had time to re-balance portfolios. To me it just saying we will have a seller soon as they rebalance portfolios. I don't think it's a big deal at all.
I thought it was the 10 percent upper threshold that required special approval.
I can see them being limited in what they can say about Apple by contract. But no reason in light of QCOMS guidance not to execute a little on damage control in a tough market, already touted to be due for a correction.
It would be appropriate for a proactive IR department in the same sector as QCOM for them to provide a release reassuring wall street about our own earnings guidance to keep our stock from tracking down with QCOM. Is that too much to ask if we have such a rosy outlook that they watch out for our own shareprice a little? Geeze - show the market you have a pulse at least!
feelin your pain. But it's ok to throw a $200,000 bonus that direction - no problem because it's only shareholder value that will suffer - not mgmt. back to lurking - couldn't resist a little quip - I'm a long too...Long way way from makin money it sometimes seems
That's putting it nicely. Tks
Do you feel like it involved favoritism, bribery, or a conspiracty theory?
