Nice!
At first blush it (IBB) looks more volatile than BBH, but with better medium term return.
Thank you.
H.
Great.
Thank you!

Question to all.
Is there an instrument similar to QQQ or SPY that follows the BTK?
If not, what would be the closer thing? (to BTK)
Thanks in advance,
H.
Payoff for some (big) favor granted perhaps?...
H.
Interesting formula...
I did a Google search with "Camarilla Pivots" and found interesting stuff about it.
The best organized site seems to be: http://www.camarillaequation.com/
The formula you published (only one I saw around) seems to apply only to ES (or S&P) trading because of the constants (0.83, and 2.66) that were "reverse engineered"
I saw some people trying to apply it to YM and complaining that it didn't work. I would use 8.30 and 26.6 instead as YM is roughly 10 times ES. (No tests performed yet)
Nice lead WLD, thanks!
H.
After following Bearmove occasional comments for a while I believe they are honest, (i. e. with no ulterior motives) and based on considerable market experience.
I'd just ignore them if coming from other person, but I listen if they come from Bearmove.
Please give him a break.
H.
ON EDIT: I see that this matter is already solved. I was catching up with my reading, and didn't wait to read all of it...
Makes sense,
thanks,
H.
Thank you,
(I was waiting for the AMZN "Report" too... <g>)
Most of my money is tied up playing Rydex funds, but I have a few shares of AMZN that I bought a month or so ago when you liked the TA, and I liked AMZN as a likely candidate to take advantage of this ongoing (belated) market bounce.
I was going to break a rule and hold it through earnings anyway, and you analysis helped ease my doubts. (Now I need the stock itself to help! <g>)
Thanks again,
H.
Do you have COTH today in the S&P too?
Nice filmaking...
Thank you for sharing.
H.
It's from Pink Floyd's The Final Cut. (Probably Take out your filthy hands of my dessert)
And it's "Took a cruiser with ALL hands" (meaning killing the whole crew)
Great album.
H.
Ouch, yeah.
Sorry to remind you of the goldies... <ng>
H.
Not exactly...
It has its origin in the novel "The Hound of the Baskervilles" in which Sherlock Holmes solves the case noting that the hound of the house did NOT bark the night of the crime, thus the perp was one of the house.
The term is used in TA to consider as a significant signal the fact that the market is NOT doing what it should be doing.
(i.e. it should be dropping, but it's holding steady so it's going to eventually go up...)

Would swapping out the HD with an E7k60 make a noticeable difference? I haven't a clue.

The short answer is "no". The speed improvement will be too little to be worthwhile. (or even noticed)
On the hardware side speed in any computer is limited by several factors such as processor speed, I/O bus speed, hard drive speed, RAM memory speed, etc. Normally they are balanced to work well together.
Improving one of them (the hard drive in this case) will only transform the others into bottlenecks.
The way to improve speed is to act on all of them at the same time, and the best (and cheapest) way to do that is to buy a new system. (No breaks here...)
That said you can improve speed acting on the Software side. Jetcityrandy advise is quite good.
A big slow-down factor is the number of hidden processes that install themselves in your computer without you even noticing, and run constantly in the background slowing things down. Some of them are legit, (if oftentimes unnecessary) and many are not. It's quite difficult to spot them. (And even more difficult to determine if they are needed by your programs or not) Ad-Aware (a free program) can help you get rid of many of them. http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
I usually wait till around Xmas to buy new systems as I found out that prices are consistently lower around that time. Last time it was possible to get a low-end Toshiba laptop for around $650. I expect to be able to get one for $500 this coming Xmas.

It seems that IBM earnings, (which were not bad) and a (still unconfirmed) report that Powell ordered all non-essential personnel out of Sudi-Arabia.

wicked failure of COTL unless we totally melt down into close which seems unlikley.

Steve,
I just wanted to point out that both yesterday (marginal) COTH for SP, and today COTL signals were fulfilled if you allow after-hours trading... <g>

And I thought this thread was a family place...
Oh. I see. It's Misys not Missy. My bad.
<g>
Thank you Steve,
good info, as always. :>
H.
Have COTH hit so far?
TIA

- Right-click on text and choose "Select All"
- Right-click again and choose "Copy"
- Open Notepad.exe and "Paste" text.
- Save in "My Documents" as a text file.
You'll always be able to find it if you give it an appropriate name.
Simple, maybe silly, but very effective... <g>
H.
Hey,
more power to you if you got it right! <wide g>
I guess I'll study it after the fact...
(I'm not brave enough to trade it without a few months of historical data to learn from.)
H.
WLoD,
I don't know squat about how the new VIX trades but I would guess that this gap is a Max Volatility Event.
Common sense would suggest that volatility should go "down" from the opening.
I would be very careful as this VBI is all very new and we still don't have a feeling of how it trades...
Good luck.
H.
Lurker,
you can find comprehensive information doing a search in Google.com for "Roth IRA" regretfully those sites seem to be written by the same people who did the IRS forms instructions. <ng>
I did a 401(k) distribution several years ago and if memory serves (an increasingly unlikely proposition as years pass by...) these are the main pointers:
- You cannot go directly from a 401(k) to a Roth Ira.
- You have to go from 401(k) to a Regular IRA first. (And you pay no taxes doing this, but make sure it's a direct transfer: if you receive a check you are prone to lots of problems if you don't do exactly the "right thing")
- Later you can transfer from IRA to Roth IRA. There are several restrictions: a) only once a year, b) adjusted income less than approx. $100K for married couples. c) probably some more, minor ones.
When you transfer from IRA to Roth IRA the WHOLE amount of the transfer is taxed as earned income. (And it's counted in determining the $100K adjusted income I mentioned before. --Most unfair if you ask me)
Same as everybody else I'm no expert in this subject, so make sure you do your due diligence.
Good luck!
H.
Note: When you are moving from IRA to Roth IRA you are basically paying taxes now on your savings in order no to pay taxes in the future on both savings, and subsequent gains.
The government lets you get all your future earnings tax free in exchange of "early payment" of the tax you were deferring in your current IRA.
Warp,
I have historical data for Nasdaq Adv Vol, Decl Vol, Advances, and Declines going back to Jan 1999.
As well as New Highs, New Lows going back to 10/13/03. (I started collecting it only recently) No "unchanged" data though.
Let me know if you want it.
H.
>>>>>>>>>>>>
I use Nasdaq Up-Down-Unch volume, and also Adv-Decl Issues.
<<<<<<<<<<<<
Warp,
you can get that info quasi-real time from here:
http://dynamic.nasdaq.com/asp/usmostactive.asp?exchange=nasdaq&mostactive=adv#adv
(Near the top. Disregard most active info...))
H.
Langostino,
Rydex Velocity is not a managed fund. Its price tracks double the price variation of the Nasdaq 100 index.
From the prospect:
"The Velocity 100 Fund seeks to provide investment results that correspond to 200% of the daily performance of the NASDAQ 100 Index on a daily basis. The fund will do this by utilizing futures and options contracts on securities. "
The dismal performance you note is just the performance of the Nasdaq in that time span using twice the leverage. Probably its inverse fund (Venture) had exactly the opposite performance.
These Rydex Dynamic Funds are effectively tools to be able to "play" daily variations of the indices, and allow "pseudo-shorting" in IRA accounts where shorting is not permitted.
H.
PS: is Corina still afloat?
You have nothing to feel sorry about!
We are getting far more than our money's worth. <g>
25 minutes before the close we were aiming at the day's highs, and we closed near the lows. (And the QQQ keeps going down after hours)
Interesting times we are living...
H.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Now COTL disappeared. I'm going to have to watch that more carefully and not give premature announcemnets. It's usually not this finicky. It may have something to do with the increased volatility we're seeing.
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
He, he... It looks (in hindsight) like the COTL signal had hit after all... <vg>
Keep on the excellent work.
H.
A friend of mine subscribed on March 1st to a (little known) timing service that provides daily 3:30 PM calls to go short or long at the close of the market.
My friend showed me their "track record" in an Excel sheet, and in the last year or so every single month they got an average monthly return of around +20% with +12% being their worst month. (Trading Rydex Dynamic Funds)
I told my friend that such consistency looked bogus, but that I'll be happy to piggyback his trades if the system works. <g>
So far in March they are -18%. (As far as I can tell they are just following the trend)
First month my friend subscribes, and first month they are running such a loss. Talk about bad luck...
H.
FWIW (For Whatever Is Worth)
I ran similar back tests during the weekend, (maybe not as precise as Warp's) and I got similarly lousy results. (Going form $100K to $28K in 3 1/2 years)
They were so bad that I just stopped there and didn't refine them any more.
H.
OK. After a 1/2 hour hiatus I was able to log back into IB.
My stop hit...
H.
Thank you Plugger!
H.
Am I the only one that cannot log into IB?
Please somebody post a EUR JUN 04 quote. (6EM4) I have one open contract <ng>
TIA.
H.
Will it make any change to the direction the market will finally move?
H.
<g>
Yes, but it's not enough. You have to also disable the Microsoft VM explicitly. (Otherwise they both co-exist)
H.
It's not a hardware problem. As long as you run Windows you are exposed to fallout from the Sun-Microsoft battle for Java dominance...
Take care,
H.
That's not it.
You need to go to:
Internet Explorer: Tools: Internet Options...
Then select the "Advanced" tag. Scroll down until you reach the "Microsoft VM" section, and make sure that its 3 check boxes are un-checked.
Programs that need the Microsoft Java JIT (I think Datek streamer is one of them) might not work after you change these settings, but IB will run beautifully.
H.
That happened to me and I fixed it with help from Train Guy.
Take a look at this message:
http://www.investorshub.com/boards/read_msg.asp?message_id=2443302
Let me know if you need help finding the place where to go to disable the Microsoft JIT compiler. (Microsoft Java engine) It's well hidden. <g/ng>
Good luck.
H.
I received one from Yahoo telling me that they were not able to bill me, and that I should update my credit card info at a certain link they provided or otherwise my service will be suspended.
Quite transparent as I don't suscribe to any Yahoo service, but just be careful out there!
