Interactive Brokers not for newbies.
EF told me in January that they would be set up with IB as they are with Ameritrade by February. Has this project been dropped?
Thanks TI.
Great to see these new features. I am still experimenting and not yet a subscriber. I have a question about getting historical data. If I try a new configuration after hours, nothing much happens and I can't get any history. If I were a subscriber, could I see the history for that day for any configuration I might want to test afterhours?
Good News for IB clients. EF should have the same setup with IB as thy do with Ameritrade in about a month.
Hey EF, have you heard anything about a date when EF will get connected to IB like they are with Ameritrade?
Hey Clay, did you send an e-mail with the picks for this coming week?
Can TI be linked to QCharts?
Can TI be linked to the Interactive Brokers platform even if you aren't doing the automated type of trading?
Nice work on the DD. I am more of a technician myself but have to respect DD when you can find the facts. I am new to pennies and haven't found many reliable sources when it comes to DD. Is there a source that separates the viable companies from the scams?
From a technical perspective, I see a double bottom at .025 in late August/early Sept. The two day bounce on Sept. 4 and Sept 8 was certainly a worthwile trade but when it bounced off that same low on Nov. 27 it was a huge move. Unfortunately, this stock probably wasn't on to many technicians watch list on Nov. 27. Certainly not mine, unfortunately. Besides, I am so old I can't wait for two months to catch a move. LOL I might not be here to see it. Guess it just shows there are many ways to skin a cat.
FF, did you get into PHIG on the basis of an EF scan or did you just know something in advance about this move?
Is anyone here a member of Mikey's Stock Haven room?
So why does it say zero on my account when I have 10k in the account and no positions or orders?
FF, I noticed on this video that the DT Buying Power was zero. When I signed into my Ameritrade account, it shows my DT Buying Power is zero as well even though I have no positions or open orders. Maybe DT Buying Power means something different than what should be obvious. Am I missing something here?
An example of how I used EF today, I noticed that ECLP was coming back nicely from the bottoms near 18. When the stock market sold off before 1230, ECLP retraced very little. When market stabilized, ECLP had returned to high of day and looked like it wanted to go higher. I bought 1k shares at 19.01 and now, at 1351, it is up to 19.30 moving slow and easy. This type of trade even once a month will pay for EF subscription. And I am still on trial so it is money in my pocket, not theirs. Will get out in the 13.40s if I can. Just have to watch level 2 to tell me when.
Wish I had scans set up to catch BIOF and SNTS yesterday. I think the filters, etc., need to be set for certain times of the day. I am starting to break day into three segments: 1st hour, middle, last hour. Am looking for different things in each of those segments. I am weakest right now on the first hour. Don't know exactly what I should be looking for. I guess it depends a little on what I want to play; pennyies or higher priced stuff. Lots to learn but this EF is a great program.
Good job Mr Penny. EF is an excellent program and there is something there for everbody, e.g., the investor, the swing trader, the daytrader, etc. It does take a little time to figure out how to take advantage of all the bells and whistles. I have just had EF a little more than a week now and am still trying to figure how best to use it. So far, I am just using the Streaming Filter, the Trading Alerts and the News Streamer. For the Streaming Alerts, I have added/deleted some columns and rearranged them to suit my needs. I generally sort the %Off Highs column so the top of the list shows the stocks at their daily high. I am only looking for new daily highs on the Trading Alerts and I keep a third eye on news. I am still working on how best to set the filters so I am not being overwhelmed with new data. I guess I do use a fourth feature, the Daytrade Montage, but I am mostly looking for something kicked out by the scans. The only trade I made today was ATNP which I got at .0029. Usually, I would just day trade it but it was a pretty steady mover all day so I still have it. I don't recall seeing OISI pop out on any of my scans so I guess I have the filters set differenty than you.
I am looking for another benefit from EF, besides the money. I used to dose off from time to time unless I drank a lot of Pepsi to keep me alert. With EF, I don't need the Pepsi anymore and hope to lose a few pounds.
Hey Steve, do you know if you can adjust the JAVA RAM in Vista? I can't seem to get into a place where you can set the RAM. Maybe Vista does it automatically. Do you know?
Don't know much about computers and don't have any idea what you are using. I am running EF, IB, Qcharts, and a lot of open browser windows on one computer. It is a year old HP desktop with a Core 2 Quad and 6 GB Ram and two 24" monitors. With all the stuff I am running, it doesn't slow down a bit. I really need more screen space, though, so I have ordered a new HP with 9GB and the newer i7 chip and two 25" monitors. I think I can fill up the new monitors with just the EF windows. I am a firm believer in buying the latest and greatest or you will fall behind the power curve before long.
I have only been a user of EF for less than a week but I will share some thoughts about the system in another post, when I get to it.
Good Luck
Lloyd
Finally, a cure for my pet catepillar. Thought I was going to lose him.
FF, what is EF saying about the availablilty of the new connection with Ameritrade?
What are you referring to?
On the tutorial, it looks like there are 4 columns on both the bid and asked sides of the level 2 window. Is it possible to rearrange those columns or are they fixed?
ISCR had a nice move the last hour today. I hope this is something that would show up on an EF scan if you had the right information plugged in.
so if HP charges $1550 to upgrade from 9GB to 24GB, wonder what they would charge for a Terabyte?
I use IB for non-penny stocks and futures and they are very good. I am just getting into pennies and looking at EF/Ameritrade. I agree that IB's commission schedule for pennies is a little confusing. I don't think pennies are their strong suit so I am looking elsewhere. I have heard good things about OC Securities but the idea of trading from an EF page is appealing.
Question about EF. I see on their tutorial there is a %retracement column on the market view page. Is this a retracement from the daily high, the weekly high, etc. Can you change this to different time periods?
Thanks. Great board by the way. Appreciate everyone's input.
Thanks Dave.
Hey FF, I guess you are using Ameritrade now but have used other brokers before. I use IB and find it very fast although I haven't used it for penny stocks. Do you have any idea how Ameritrade compares to a broker like IB when it comes to speed of order execution?
That is 24GB, not 245MB.
I am ordering an HP model e9280t with 9GB ram but they also offer 12, 18, and 245MB options for that computer. The 24GB costs an extra $1550.
I am new to Ihub and was wondering if there is a way to get the posts to auto scroll?
VKNG This may be a new uptrend. Don't own but wish I did.
