Hey H!
You're lucky you didn't - I've been pretty much out of me bloomin' mind for 8 months. Seems to be some light ahead, so feeling more sociable.
Later.. cookin' time.
Mags
Hi Ken -
nice to "see" you too. How are the babies? Much bigger and running around is a safe guess. And what have you been up to besides parenting? The markets haven't exactly been fun.
Stepson has twin boys (fraternal)- 1 yr in June - They couldn't be more different from each other if they were from opposite sides of the planet. The bigger one is really working on walking- won't crawl any more - motors around on hands and feet in upside down "V", has 8+ teeth, watches everything carefully, doesn't fuss. Mr Fussbdget, on the other hand, tends towards tantrums, has only 4 teeth (working on more, of course) and yells bloody murder: if anyone walks out of the room, at certain noises, and only god knows what else. Hoping he'll get thru this stage sooner than later.
My nicknames for them are "Brick" (fussbudget) and "Block" (bigger). It's too much to carry them both at once any more.
Four deer out back at dawn this morning..haven't seen them in a couple of years, but neighbor has been thinning his woods lately. If I can figure out how to post a picture, I will.
Mags
Judd-
Oh No ! It can't be! (just kidding) -Congrats.
Funny,I was thinking about you the other day..In the perennial house revamp, found some of the ole catnip which I shared with neighbors who still have cats. I'm going to pvt message.

Definitely not Alice, and certainly not in Wonderland.

Wish I could have caught up with you while in LA, but time was not my own. . One night in Longbeach at the Hyatt, 2d somewhere in Norwalk. Somehow deleted pix at dawn of gulls having a hissy fit over fish heron stole from them.. in front of the Queen Mary. 8-('
Mags
Matey !! I almost called you a week ago Fri- but it was getting late and we had to "push on"- layed over in Seligman, AZ -supped at the "Black Cat" ---errr- sipped mostly.
left my rechargeable toothbrush at motel across the street...grrrr.

Fabulous late brunch- 2 lb lobsters with fresh tomato/mozarella/aged provolone/shaved locatelli salad drizzled with herbs, olive and truffle oils...and Mimosas, of course. Matron of Honor's fiance drove all the way home - I lounged in the back seat...heaven. 550 mi. to their house.
I be fine- still
trying to catch up.
Nails doing ok - I'm still concerned - had mild seizure Mon a.m. - recovered quickly - 1st since Aug 10 when he had 3 in 24 hrs. SOmetimes he hides from me when it's meds time, so don't have reg dosage totally down, as it were.
I just don't know - seems to get cranked when I go away -worked 8 hrs on Sunday - that's not exactly "away", but Mon a.m... bang. Maybe he needs valium.
Today's the Big B'Day- hubby promised to get front "porch" done - widened, lengthened a bit in time for Halloween. Halloween is my christmas - and we have lots of new kids in the neighborhood.. and I can't go to Walmart without getting the newest H'ween decoration..this year got animated spider on web, animated black cat, holographic pumpkin and bat, plus all the stuff previously acquired..oversized bat and furry spider, gargoyle mask lights.. orange, black and purple rope lights... I think I have the witch that looks like it crashed into the ground.
Still crazy after all these years.
M
Hey judd ! - Agreed--
and you're alive too! (along with nyc) (not that I'm any shining example..)
Interesting line in the Finale of "The Wire".."We're policing a declining society"
so, "everybody" knows, except the loud mouthed, self- disenfranchised ignorati (made it up-latin derivative)..it's getting depressing- or scarey.. probably both.
Can't remember if I told you- Nails has seizure disorder - on Potassium Bromide- getting dosage regulated is a challenge- when he doesn't want his meds - he just spits it out- even if hidden in a special "meatball"- sometimes thinks a chicken bone is a syringe - runs..Dang, not a dumb dog... Oh yeah, I told you the "duck outsmarted Nails" story.
Gotta go- midst of too much stuff.. later..
M
Judd- well it's about...
%@#@(&^^%$!* time you showed up - 6 months' absence. Geez!
Way too busy-- SOS..fragmenting..need rest and solitude... not in sight.
Sounds like you're having fun, as usual..
LAter, M
Hey Viv !
It seems nobody's hearing from anybody..all way too busy-
I jump in here for a spell when I can't stand the nutsness any more.
What are you up to?
M
H~- wish I could- cuz if I
don't- I'll be Under the ground...and damn clock won't matter any more..not that I pay any attention to it now...But my bones seem to..pesky brats.
Maybe A lobotomy would help.
M
Husker- WHAT
are you up to? like I'm going to click on a link saying "systemisdown"..
Been running me arse off- I DID end up having to do Syracuse and back in a day- (10 hrs driving- half in pouring rain)+ 4 hrs packing crap covered with mouse s**t- up and down stairs..and unloading it all into barn ..Show this past weekend in MD--(more 12 hr days),show weekend after next in VA..
No time to clean, cook, do paperwork, yardwork- the latter can't do because the east coast thinks it's in Seattle..rain, rain, rain..
left shoulder rotor cuff screaming at me..and rt shoulder doing sympathy trip- ankles howling-"Get off!!!"
BUT.. the bright side- portfolio doing well- dumped all lollygaggers except one..bought stuff with good divs..FBR and ING when in the doldrums..up ca 45%+. Having to miss some other opportunities because of horrendous CG from sale of father's house..the damage for which I won't know until Sept..worst case is $35k fed taxes. Need more time to scope out tax reducing strategies..IRA's, max contrib to 401k..
anybody got any good ideas?
Gotta go- Do a sun dance for us. Farmer's ALmanac predicts only 12 sunny days for this summer. Yuck.
Before son went off to Europe, for his birthday, took him to AC for dinner and our triennial Black Jack gig- up 450 in 3 hrs..on initial $100.. left a 1 a.m. split profits..he's a more aggressive better than I am..also loses bigger than I do..his playing's gotten better..good team.. we always have fun .
Tata, M
Matey- I'm so fried
hardly know what day it is -- too much heavy work..long days..gettn' a break- don't want to think about anything...'cept your baby back ribs...
Just found out I DO NOT have to drive to Syracuse.for a house cleanout..Thank God..
All I have to do is set things up on this end to receive the stuff..works for me..better at organization than hog work.
Recipe?..hmmmmm.
Achin'bones-Gams
Ventrilo---Cool. !!
Is it similar to Net2Phone? (which I haven't figgered out yet either)
M
Hi Matey-
cable is pretty good- don't like the monthly fee..but it's better than it was..I haven't figured networking stuff out yet- no time. I suppose I should get on it. Middle older brother has it, so if HE can do it, I certainly should be able to..except it was his son who set it up...he lives in Seattle. No help there...and my son is close to a tech disaster- he knows finance..and cell phone is permanently glued to his ear.
got you change of addy
Hope you had good Mem Day weekend- it only rained here..and rained, and rained..all of May, nothing but rain..we needed it, but low barometric pressure and dampness are killing my ankles. Nothing hurt in AZ I'll be back !!

Husker- Honda

M
40 lbs
of dirty laundry..
Hell lady, I was closer to you yesterday!
I was lucky to get home with 10 tons of luggage- mostly son's.
( exaggeration) other than the "mostly" part.
Gotta go-
'56 T-Bird is being flatbedded in any minute-former owner has bug up her arse about signing title..(she's very whacked and not rational..) so couldn't drive it home.
Life goes on.
Later

I'm back, too! What a trip..
Did talk to Matey (Husker, thanks for the relay), but didn't git to see him- Son kept changing the program. Grandma (age 85) wouldn't let me drive (a few white knuckles in Phoenix rush hour traffic I had).. too many parties - the post commencement "Gala" at the new JandW Marriot Resort and Spa in Deere Valley was SPECTACULAR. CEO of Coca Cola ..Mr Daft- (figure living with that name) gave an excellent commencement address. Met the Gov of AZ at some other function I went to with ex-mothier-in-law in Tuscon.. Busy, busy..
Packed up most of son's s**t to ship home - guess who did the packing.. Men, especially bachelors, do NOT know how to pack and aren't even willing to try..300 + lbs UPS- to here- Tues a.m. before dashing off for the plane- which was late..so why did I rush and get myself into a minor tizzy? Oh Well. Couple of bloody marys fixed that. zzzzzzzzzzz
Glad to be home (tho weather in AZ was fantastic) to see hubby and me dog who, surprisingly, did not give me a half hour woo-woo-owww-owww lecture about being gone.
House in disarray- stuff I brought down from father's house isn't all "placed" yet, extra chairs and luggage in foyer, packing boxes and inventory in office and back room, and 9 heavy boxes from PHX coming the 13th..HELP!!
Life is good.
Mags
Anybody seen Matey? I'm going
to be in Arizona tomorrow - thru Monday next. !
Nothing like waiting til last minute- way too busy..
Still not packed.. uh oh.
Mags
Greetings to all! Too long gone, way too busy.
Glad winter's over..anyone heard from judd?
God Bless America and you all.
M
yeh, yeh, yeh....rub it in.. know that-been there several times.. but not fond of prospect of earthquakes, mudslides or fires.
All things considered, think I'd prefer a villa overlooking Mediterranean..but not near Mt Etna..(that better be the one I mean).
Son said he and some friends are thinking of buying something in Swiss Alps in a year or 2--Mom's always welcome (better be)..
I volunteered for permanent housekeeper..run a little bordello..(hee, hee) er..."salon". Told him, however, I needed that Med villa for winter.
Truth is, I'll probably never move from here ..too much stuff..unles I just light a match and walk away.
Hubby's got another hernia- 6th successive annual health crisis. Why can't he do this in any of the other 3 seasons?
Ok, done venting.
M
Happy New Year all ! SE PA--sunny, breezy,chilly-wind chill ca 15 deg.. ;-( brrrrr...
NYC, hope you don't live in or around Malibu..nasty fire..
M
Happy Thanksgiving all !! I'm doing Duck..8-}-M
Hey Viv !! Send me some energy !!!
Gotta go - talk at ya'all next week.
Mags
nyc
Somewhat familiar with the area. In real estate days, signed a few deals over "lunch" at the Black Bass Inn.... loved the food..butit's been at least 8-9 years since last visit. (Where'd the time go?) Used to do Lambertville Antique Mkt regularly- boy can it be cold at dawn along the river..down Rte 29..Joisey side..
Glad to hear family is prospering - I think learning to swim early is really important thing to do..good job.
Leaving for D.C. today - then on to Charlotte, NC tomorrow..back Monday..Gotta get ready..(which I definitely am NOT, yet.
Mags
Viv- being almost entirely out of the loop..
what the hell are you doing- i.e. new job?
Mags
judd- Keep on Snorklin'! :o~ ...
Murphy moved in again last week - Van engine cam shafts- caput!
Having just bought a 1956 T-Bird (hubby HAD to have it)- can't stretch for newer vehicle - settling for rebuilt engine - tranny's probably near expiring too, I think- won't know until new block is in.- so what's another 4 grand? (ouch).
T-Bird's actually an investment - but it needs some spiffin' up which will take some time and hopefully not too much $$.
Then, of course, we'll want to keep it- but we can't and shouldn't. He'll pprobably take it to one show next spring- then it's sayonara..
Take care,
Masgs
Hey nyc !!
How ya doing? How are your babies? I don't know where the time goes -
Saw an Arnold S. interview and HE "said" he didn't want to run for governor - d'ya suppose he's just playing possum- waiting to see if support develops a real groundswell? I think he'd be a great choice. On vera.
Be glad you weren't in PA this spring/summer - drought- horrible heat and humidity until Oct. I didn't even do a garden-and those who did had stunted crispy critters... still have drought conditions - water 16-18" still below normal levels- Bucks county no longer has water use restrictions but Chester and Delaware counties do- Reservoir down in Dela Co still looks like a peat bog it's so low. Drove over the Susquehanna River last week- at least that looked like a river this time - end of Aug it looked like a low swamp with lots of little islands- very other-world looking.
Off to VA and Charlotte, NC next week. The faster I go, the behinder I get.
Later... MAgs
Coming up for air ! This sniper
thing is really nuts ! Have a few friends in that area - everybody's quite scared..nasty stuff. My son's roomate has to go the area end of this week for a job fair and he's understandably nervous. I DO wish the media wouldn't hash it over ad nauseam.
Hey judd !! Glub, glub ???
Gotta go to work..later..
Mags
nyc- they were there when I put 'em up.
puddy-tat gifs are from same site. My baby pix is from "my photos" on msn... and appeared for a while. go figure.
Mags
Viv- Nyc !!! some of my pictures disappeared!!
SOmething wrong? Whaaaaa !!
M
Viv- some puddy-tat..
............
.....
Viv- I had it VERY loud -Loud things
he does not like - or flying objects..he ducks..
half the time riding in van, he ducks at the shadows of tree branches - acts like the sky is falling in. But fearless chasing deer, squirrels, groundhogs and (ugh) skunks.
If I sing- he looks at me as if I'm out of my mind and starts to howl....Woo-woooo-woooo! off key, no less.
BTW, I can't sing..don't blame him.
Your cat thumping you is hilarious.
Used to have a male persian who loved to sit on table saw while running..watch lumber go thru - get covered in sawdust..cared less about loud sounds, sleeping in middle of road or ambushing neighbors' pets- regardless of size or type.
I MISS him..such a character-- The "Stud Muffins" with the golden eyes. He loved snow, too.
M.
So Viv..
To meditate, I "do" music..recently got out old hymn book, cranked up elec keyboard - hooked up thru amp to speakers - opened the windows, put in church organ mode - near full volume- had a great time. The dog bolted outside and crawled under my van. (Can't always have a perfect audience.)
Viv
Indeed a great post - Gosh- I haven't been to Relig on RB in ages..it was more "funner" In The Beginning.
Your fundamental common sense struck a chord - I don't know who Karin is, but, as you know, I'm probably more like her than you - (I'm not much good for just "goin' along").
Here's what I think
As me Mom said, "God is Love". and that derives from one's attitude..followed by what one thinks, feels and does.
So Love is: Take care of yourself so you can be there for others; (corollary: if you're not in good shape, you're no damn good to anyone else). This is predicated on thinking about others, not necessarily before yourself, but because the common good (not a socialist or communist) is totally dependent on the well being of society - which is undermined by selfishness and greed- and whose "operation", functionality and health is contingent upon the communication, sharing andexecuting (acting upon) of values that inure to the benefit of all.
The world is factious and fractured because this ain't happening- "this" being - thinking on a larger scale- the mutual back scratch , if you will. Give a little, get a little and we inch forward... but survive and prosper.
You're right that the atheists are as whacked as the reborn..they both think they "know". Agnosticism is at least humble enough in its very name - agnosis - lack of knowledge.
I don't f**ing know what the hell is going on any more, out there. I tend to see it from a sociological and economic viewpoint in an effort to understand the dynamics- and pragmatically - it's the Haves and Have-Nots. (Greed in human nature just isn't going to go away any time soon.) With better "education", aculturation...yada, yada.. there might be evidence of more shared values, ergo less strife.
This kind of discussion ALWAYS brings me back to the Golden Rule- which is encoded in all major religions in various ways.
The Judeo-Christian tradition happens to have 10 Commandments.
Doesn't matter any more WHO created, gave, dictated, endowed these precepts.. (on the brink of saying that God as a sine qua non is immaterial). The sum of the history is that over thousands of years the wise men, wherever they came from, have all come up with the same nugget of wisdom that makes society work. Most of society chooses to ignore it..or so it seems. The question, then, seems to be, how make more people aware of the "usefulness" of internalizing the Golden Rule?
Back to education, parenting,family, neighborhoods...etc.
Those who think God's gonna do everything for them, if they go to church. pray and preach, don't want to shoulder the angst and responsibility inherent in their freedom of choice. The atheists just preach in another way. Going to Extremes is NOT the answer. Existentialist ? - a wee bit maybe. Doesn't deny God's existence..just says, what happens here is our job, not God's.
The brain isn't "just a piece of plasm". That we and some animals have them - and personalities-- and wills - that we have brains and spirit is the awesome mystery to me. I can't explain it.
To digress a bit: Odd fact: A cockroach can live for 30 days after its head has been cut off. It dies of dehydration -only because without head and mouth, it can't get any water.
Shot my wad - probably silent for another 5 months.
