There is a natural mineral content in the Gulf waters that didn't effect the Valdez spill. This will help to absorb oil along with massive quantities of dispersants.
Of course the oil is in the eco system now and once again the question of a 'Tipping Point' is most important.
That is: How much oil can the Gulf absorb before it can clean it's self?
Or......do we settle for a compromise....the Eco system can co-exist with the new chemistry and we can adapt to the nutritional changes of the food supply. Ingesting the bounty of the Gulf.
Love your sarcasm! We're gonna have a crew with us on that island.

Facts just keep poping up:
This is about two years old:
"Range Resources has the hydrocarbon and mineral exploration rights, and exploitation rights, for the entire onshore and offshore area covering the Puntland State of Somalia. Puntland is a small, autonomous state that covers more than 200,000 square kilometres of the northeastern tip of Somalia, often referred to as the “Horn of Africa”.
"Range Resources originally went to Puntland in search of minerals, but soon discovered that the tiny region had, in fact, been the subject of intense oil and gas exploration in the past, with some US$150 million spent in the early 1990s by Conoco alone, before the region destabilised in 1991, and the oil majors pulled out. Range Resources was in luck. When the oil companies moved out, they dropped the options on their licences, which eventually created an opportunity for Range to negotiate the exploration and exploitation rights for oil and minerals across the entire state.
Proactiveinvestors recommends
.................." In 1991, the World Bank co-ordinated a study intended to encourage private investment in the petroleum potential of eight African nations, with Sudan and Somalia topping the list of potential commercial oil producers. A decade later, and Puntland is now a semi-autonomous region of Somalia."

I'm still trying to understand Somalia. Puntland is the entire Horn and Holy Baby Jesus! Frankincense and Myrrh are exports.
I always wondered about that.
The oil has never been tapped. Conoco did some siesmic studies and left back in the '90's when oil was $15 bbl.
What did you start, B4? We got a full house! Wow.

Gillard said the government will review plans for a carbon- trading system in 2012, and that the market should set the price for carbon. Labor also wants to generate 20 percent of the nation’s energy from renewable sources like wind, solar and geothermal projects by 2020.
