Stick to your guns "sam'. In the long run your convictions may well benefit you handsomely.
Good point. Do you agree that LED lighting may be a shorter term growth with solar being the longer term and possibly larger growth? The reason I ask is because that's my perspective but I'm open to your ideas.
Sunovia's CEO stated that their relationship with EPIR is "rock solid". Should we feel confident that this is true?
Another concern is Sunovia getting into toxic financing. Either in the form of hedge funding or r\s. Your thoughts?
Trust me, I'm not being negative or cantankerous. I'm strongly thinking of increasing my position in Sunovia and am asking for any substantiated and "gut feel" feedback I can get.
I'm thinking 5-10 year long.
I'll also pitch in. I also visit daily. IMO, this is one of the most civilized discussion boards on IH. The posters seem to be intelligent, diversified in their areas of expertise, and give me the impression that there is a true interest in making informed decisions.
Interesting hypothesis. Have you considered communicating your ideas to an agricultural university or college? It would seem that an exploratory trial could be a project carried out by students. An interested professor could use this as a research teaching tool.
Thank you for your comments. Interesting about phasing our incandescent and about compact fluorescent being transitional to an LED world.
Do you have any insight into why LEDs are as expensive as they currently are? Are they artificially high because of the lower energy cost which helps the consumer justify the expenditure?
In my mind a commercial lighting solution such as Sunovia offers is, on the surface, a no brainer. I suspect the initial investment to convert is prohibiting massive implementation?
I agree that the opportunities seem unlimited. I'm also curious about the ROI on these lights. My impression is that if the price of retrofitting or replacement can be justified by energy cost savings the bragging rights of reduced carbon footprint will be a secondary yet sought after consideration.
I use mostly compact fluorescent lighting in my home. The packaging indicates life of the bulb and projected dollar amount of energy savings. As a consumer I use this information to make a decision. Although on a much greater scale I think the same would apply to Sunovia's products. There seems to be a missing piece in their PR.
I suspect Sunovia will need to drive production costs down. That requires volume. Volume requires capital. An age old conundrum.
I'm remain long on SUNV.
LOL! Well, I guess instead of beating ourselves up we could look at rapid moves like this as proof that it CAN happen. The tricky part is being onboard when it does!
Thank you for sharing your portfolio. WiseEd, if you haven't done so I encourage you to take advantage of Ernie's offer to share.
I see the potential for some interesting offline discussion. I had become concerned that I may be overly methodical and stoic and I've learned that Ernie's strategy is almost the polar opposite of mine. His strategy appeals to me. I'm now addressing a blend that I'm personally comfortable with.
Great ideas and the kind of discussions I enjoy. ErnieBilco, I will email you to request your portfolio. WiseEd, I like your aggressive stance.
I agree with the strategy of pulling out the original investment and playing with the house's money.
I'm glad I didn't attempt to imply arrogance in my earlier posts as I think I'm about to learn some things from the two of you.
Interesting stories about how we came to learn of Sunovia. Your comment about your visit to Sunovia and observing that it was a "very clean operation" speaks volumes.
My current portfolio is now reduced to Leucadia (LUK)@ $18.00, a few million shares of DNAPrint (DNAG)@ .0005 and now SUNV @ .128. My NEOP sale gives me apx $4k to spread around. I'm looking for ideas. I would like to experience some short term action.
Best to both of you.
I'm in total agreement with you about your perceived demand for efficient lighting. What caught my attention about SUNV was their ability to fit their light fixtures into existing "cobra head" poles.
I live in a major metro area and drive a freeway to work. Over the last several weeks I have been watching a large project where new poles & cobra heads were installed approximately 8 feet from the existing poles. I was able to see that the new lights are of an energy efficient type. Now they're removing the old poles and carrying them off as scrap. This made no sense to me led me to question the project. My searches led to my initial awareness of SUNV.
I'm anxious for when they light these things up.
I deplore wasting natural resources and the irresponsible public spending. I truly believe that with effective marketing SUNV will become a big player. My contribution to their marketing effort will be to mention the name Sunovia in the local paper online comments section when they announce the new lighting.
CTIC - Nice work! This is a beautiful example of a multi-bagger where you got out maybe a bit under the peak but and you seem perfectly fine with that. This reinforces my earlier reference to my need to overcome the potentially expensive fear I have of leaving something on the table by getting out too early.
I stated that I tried to "practice" my efforts against the "due dilly". The reality is that to date my efforts have been more about progress than perfection.
My current IH stock pick strategy has led me numerous dead ends where even the bravest or most foolish of souls would fear to tread (I didn't buy). My current "strategy" is definitely lacking.
I'm curious about your strategy in locating potential stocks on IH and other boards. Anything you are willing to share would be welcomed.
I'm liking this discussion group. The members seem to be of good caliber. I particularly like how individual reports of "wins" include the admission of a bust or two. No one bats a thousand.
I liked your question. It's one that I struggle with a lot. My personal makeup is to buy and hold and I'm working on getting past the "but what if it continues to climb after I've sold" mentality. Many people sell the minute they double their money. I hope we hear from others about their strategy as I am also interested.
One thing I forgot to mention yesterday is something I initially struggled with. If I owned one share of a $100 stock or 10,000 shares of a one cent stock and the stock doubles it's a 100% gain either way. I think it's human nature to feel the 10,000 shares are somehow more desirable. I fight it all the time. A personal quirk that seems to shared by many.
I use Low Trades. For three reasons. 1) I dislike fees of any kind - Low Trades is $4.95 per trade. 2) I felt I needed to force my motivation - To avoid a $50 inactivity fee one must complete one trade every 6 months. As you may have gathered from my posts I'm a tightwad. No way will I pay a $50 fee. I looked at it as a way of forced savings and its worked for me. 3) It would now cost me $25 for a check to cash out or $50 to have shares transferred to a different provider. I feel a little more locked in than I would like.
I sold Norsat (NSATF) yesterday and NEOP the day before. I'd forgotten about the 3 day wait until the cash is available so was unable to buy SUNV on Friday. Does anyone have an opinion on the short term movement on this one? Will we see a further dip before the speculative climb? The stock dilution is a bit bothersome and people may get scared off and unload? Right now I'm thinking if I can get in more shares at .12 I should still do well. Of course single digits preferred. All ideas welcomed.
My apologies if this has been previously posted.

Tough question. One that only you can answer. Never invest more than you can afford to lose. It's always a good idea to diversify. The cardinal rule is to never fall in love with a stock. I had to learn this the hard way.
Read the news. A lot. Read labels of products that interest you. Always have a curious mind about the company behind the news or product.
Boards such as IH can be a gold mind of ideas and information. Learn how to ignore the crazies, psychos, pumpers, bashers, and slammers. There's a lot of smart people on here. Much smarter than I. Google the terms you're not familiar with.
My 401k and Roth accounts are sacred and I don't play with them. For me penny land is more a hobby than anything. A hobby with a possible upside. If I bought a boat, trailer, vehicle to pull boat, and all the fishing gear the best I can hope for is to catch some fish. Strikes me as highly impractical. But that's me.
My first entry into penny land was under $500 and involved 4 stocks. Two years later, out of my first 4 picks I was up 112%, up 451%, 1 break even, and one total bust. In the end I was up a total of 122% in 18 months. I did a lot of homework and readily admit I was fortunate. The funny part is that it wasn't a great deal of money but it sure felt good. I was on top of the world!
I bought Neoprobe (NEOP) at .31 a couple of years ago and sold today at $1.08. I think it's still a good company and I may revisit it. They're waiting on FDA approval and I think there will be another opportunity. I like to think my investment helped them get to where they are.
My NEOP gains are going into SUNV.
I’m still kicking myself for not buying Select Comfort (SCSS) last spring for .39. It closed yesterday $4.80. I was too chicken or too lazy to pull the trigger when I should have. Live and learn.
There is no magic formula. People who have the stock pick secrets, books and computer programs for sale, or insider subscriptions are, IMO, bogus. If their claims were true they would be making money on stocks and living on their private island. They aren't trying to "share" their secrets with you or me because they feel obligated to humankind.
For your amusement you may want to watch AGA Medical (AGAM). They IPO'd in Oct 09. Insiders can begin selling their shares (6 month lockout)on April 21, 2010. I expect it to dip at that time. Great company, established, brilliant founder, I know two people who work there. Great corporate culture. Not a penny at $13.xx but watching could be a learning experience. I may get in at $12. $10 would be better.
Warren Buffet's book "Snowball" is a good read. Somewhat tedious at times but did a lot to shape how I am trying to think.
My alias "Detonate" comes from how I feel when I buy or sell and hit the <enter> key. :)
Best of success to you. I'm curious about what you decide to do.

It’s my understanding that Craig Hall was with Tampa Bay Financial when they provided funding during Tony's DNAPrint early days. When the business began to take off Tony hired Hector Gomez MD as Chief Medical Officer. As the business continued to grow Tony realized he is more scientist than CEO. Hector's friend Richard Gabriel was hired as CEO. Richard had grandiose ideas, strayed from core competencies, and threw money around (much of it to himself and a created position for his wife). Richard's talent and agenda appears to have been centered on putting himself in the limelight, self-promotion, and abrasive arrogance. Potential investors and partners that were interested in DNAPrint (i.e. Nanobec) walked away because of Richard. Richard then got DNAPrint into a deal with the Dutchess hedge fund and promptly blew through $7mm. Supposedly Duthcess' largest investor got burned by Bernie Madoff and the money dried up. By this time Tony had lost control of the company. IMO Richard Gabriel & Dutchess stripped DNAPrint as much as they could and then Dutchess foreclosed.
DNAPrint (DNAG) is still trading. The intellectual property\patents appear to be held by an unknown party. DNAPrint recently signed a global licensing deal with DNA Diagnostics Center(DDC).
The above is probably more than you wanted to know.
Please keep in mind that I consider myself to be a layman and much of the below is based on intuition.
Electricity generated from solar energy is a result of excited molecules. Knowledge of molecular structure is paramount. Tony also has a strong physics background. I'm of the opinion that SUNV has demonstrated going beyond accepting the industry standard of solar energy and is re-addressing solar energy from the fundamentals on up.
SUNV recently secured Tony’s continued efforts for up to 3 years by offering stock based on his future contributions to the tune of 26,326,290 shares (the math is impressive). I’m convinced they’re onto something.
Tony learned a lot from his DNAPrint experience. This tells me Sunovia is solid and has a brilliant future.
Sheer speculation but I wonder if Tony could be exploring organic solar options.
I thought the modifying of SUNV's lighting product to adapt to existing cobra light fixtures was genius. It was simple, elegant, and outside the accepted paradigm. I like the way these guys think.
I'm giving serious consideration to loading the boat with SUNV.
Hello everyone. I just bought in. I really like what I see. Of course I envy those who got in lower but I still think .124 is bargain basement.
I'm not a pumper. I just thought I could probably bring some information to the table that may interest you.
Tony Frudakis just signed on with Sunovia. Tony was the brains behind DNAPrint Genomics. Unfortunately the sharks got ahold of Tony's company, forced Tony out, and then pretty much destroyed his creation. Although I've had only brief interaction with him I think Tony is a good guy, is incredibly smart, got burned financially and emotionally, and is now making his comeback. He consulted with SUNV for several months and now has committed to them. This tells me a lot. A whole lot.
With other recent staff\partnership additions it appears to me that SUNV is putting together an incredibly talented team. I'm convinced the company has given the R&D guys the freedom to be creative.
I like this stock from both a long and short term perspective. Personally, I'm long on this one.
Good one! :)
Good find. Thanks for posting.
Looking at Richard & Hector's site was like seeing the sordid underbelly of the web. Please excuse me, I feel the sudden need to take a shower.
AN ARREST!
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/crime/article6917852.ece
DNAPrint pointed to a perp of West Indian ancestry. An arrest has now been made and the man "Police sources said that the Night Stalker, who is believed to be of Caribbean extraction,....".
Very few clues or DNA samples. 15 years with no success. DNAPrint was brought in and an arrest in 5 years.
Re: #81696.
I watched "Lopez Tonight" Thursday evening. DNA Diagnostics (DDC) was featured in a DNA profile of entertainer Larry David. http://www.lopeztonight.com/episode_recaps_and_highlights/nov_12_2009_recap_high\

For those who prefer factual information over speculation.
In the interest of forming an educated opinion I found current DNAP patent activity for Sept. 2009: http://www.uspto.gov/web/patents/patog/week38/OG/patentee/alphaD_Utility.htm and scroll down to DNAP. DNAPrint Genomics continues to own and maintain this corporate patent.
I think it's valid to speculate that there will be a SEC 8K and press release forthcoming.
I just visited the site dnaprint.com. Seems to be working for me.
I was reacting to your statement containing, "...anyone from passing the information to the previous shareholders." I suprised to learn that I had become a "previous" shareholder.
I interpreted your statement as factual instead of the conjecture it was.
Going forward I will scrutinize the source more closely.
I have held shares of DNAPrint for years and now you state I am a "previous shareholder"? I assumed I still owned my DNAG shares.
This bums me out.
This is important news you've provided. Please provide us with supporting evidence so the thousands of shareholders can possibly join in on a campaign to report this to the SEC. I'm sure you already have reported it but there is strength in numbers.
Having bullet proof information would give us credibility. Please provide ASAP. Thanks for unearthing this!
On what basis were you and Porgie denied admission?
Chiggah, well said. eom
Cuda - Thank you. I'm a little red faced for having missed seeing that. Live and learn.
Thank you for your post. Could you share where you get this screen shot? Interesting stuff.
Dan, thank you for the information on Gabriel's departure and an advance thank you for further findings you may be posting. Please know that I respect your dilgence in following the rules and not jeopardizing yourself based on your position with DNAG.
DNAPrint - What a story! What a ride! I'm still holding.
Thank you Dan for your efforts. Do you know whether the machine being down is a parts availability issue or a financial issue? I'm sure most of us would like to see them up and running.
Wow, this is fun! These last few days are making up for my earlier gut wrenching decisions to average down and then be patient.
I'm curious. There has been much ballyhoo about someone who went to the DNAPrint address and later posted some photos of a sign on the ground. If I remember correctly there was a great amount of discussion about the office being locked around 3 PM on a Friday afternoon during the holidays.
My question is this. Why didn't this person put on their sleuth hat and ask some of the neighboring businesses if there had been recent activity at DNAPrint? Questions about signs of activity including lights being on, cars parked out front, people coming and going...?
The whole report including pictures just doesn't resonate with me. Almost as if staged.
Chiggah,
Great post. I wholeheartedly agree with you. Bag and Daniel, you're not alone. I'm in DNAG also (3+mio shares) and plan to ride it out. For me, it quit being about money a long time ago. Keep the faith. Ralph S. ~Minneapolis
