Liquidmetal® Technologies Reports Revenue of $3.5 Million for Second Quarter 2009
RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Liquidmetal® Technologies Inc. (OTCBB: LQMT) today reported financial results for the three months ended June 30th 2009. Revenue for the Second Quarter was $3.5 million. This represents a modest 3% decrease from the $3.6 million in the First Quarter of 2009 reflecting stabilization in the Company's business activity realized in the Second Quarter.
Overall Gross Margins was 46% in the Second Quarter versus 40% in the First Quarter of 2009. Selling, General & Administrative Expenses came in at $1.4 million for the quarter, down from $1.6 million in the First Quarter of 2009. Research & Development Expense was at $0.3 million in the Second Quarter, up from $0.2 million in the First Quarter of 2009.
Commenting on the operations, Mr. Larry Buffington, President and CEO, pointed out, “Despite the fact our business is a reflection of the overall economy we managed to incur a relatively small decline in our second quarter revenue as opposed to Q1 as previously outlined. A nationwide decrease in oil and gas drilling activity had a direct effect on our coatings business where revenues declined from $2.5 million in the first quarter to $1.7 million in Q2. Nonetheless, we are seeing improvement in market conditions.
“Second quarter growth in our bulk alloy business was impressively driven by consumer electronics customers' demand for mobile smartphones. This was attributable mainly to our licensee and subsequent royalties and material sales for the company. Meanwhile, consistent profitability in our coatings business and growing profits in our bulk alloy business contributed to the increase in our gross margins to 46% compared to 40% in the first quarter.”

harr, re: the VZ contract. I'm waiting for actual work starting/awarded on this venture. From last Q, looks like a correction to say "sub-contract" thru HC instead of "contract" w/VZ? Since we have invested in tools, vehicles and testing equipment to enter the fiber optics installations arena, several opportunities have been presented to us and we have investigated the potential and probabilities of success. We advertised the receipt of several multi-million dollar contracts with Verizon. The contracts were presented by several individuals associated with a company called HC Professional, LLC. Verizon informed us that neither individuals nor HC Professional were associated with them and were “persona no grata”. As a result we were channeled to one of their prime contractors and have retracted our announcement of the contracts received with Verizon. We have since then, established qualifications and a relationship with the designated prime contractor and are insured, bonded and an approved sub-contractor with the prime. There are five contracts on the table and we are diligently moving to assemble teams to begin work in the near future. These teams and our plethora of tools, vehicles and testing equipment should provide a substantial revenue stream for a significant number of years.
Thing I don't get is who's selling @.002? I sold some @.02 Friday. CDID as wacky as the rest of it.

Justice Dept. Said Eyeing Telecom Giants
WASHINGTON--The U.S. Justice Department has begun looking at big telecom companies to try to determine if they have abused their market power, the Wall Street Journal reported in its online edition Monday.
The journal, which cited people familiar with the matter, said the Antitrust Division's review was in its very early stages and was not a formal probe of any specific company.
The country's biggest operators are AT&T Inc (T: 24.38, -0.24, -0.97%) and Verizon Communications (VZ: 29.7184, -0.6616, -2.18%).
Lawmakers have recently raised questions about whether large wireless carriers were hurting smaller rivals by entering exclusive agreements with the makers of popular phones. Deals like AT&T's multiyear agreement with Apple Inc (AAPL: 136.13, -2.48, -1.79%) for exclusive rights to sell the iPhone in the U.S. are at the center of some lawmakers' concerns.
The Justice Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
AT&T spokesman Mark Siegel referred questions on any probe to the Department of Justice. But he defended the practice of exclusive agreements between carriers and phone makers, saying they spurred competition and helped companies collaborate on new features.
Verizon Wireless spokesman Jeffrey Nelson said that his company, which is the biggest U.S. mobile service, had had no notice from the Justice Department about any probe into handset exclusivity. Verizon Wireless is a venture of Verizon Communications and Vodafone Group Plc.
John Taylor, a spokesman for Sprint Nextel, the No. 3 U.S. mobile service which has an exclusive agreement to sell Palm Inc's high-profile Pre phone, declined comment on the reported probe.
He also defended exclusive handset agreements as pro-competitive. "We think that without these exclusivity arrangements carriers are less likely to risk the investment necessary to develop and promote devices like these," he said.
The new chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, Julius Genachowski, plans to review the deals.
According to a copy of the written responses to questions from Senator John Kerry obtained by Reuters in mid-June, Genachowski said he would "promote competition and consumer choice."
Lawmakers have also raised questions about the pricing of text messages.

I'm one of those that ended my land-line. Just the cell now, I couldn't see paying 2 phone bills every month. Miss the fax line though. I tell ya, when I tried to end it the gal at Vz would not let me go! I practically had to hang up on her. Such tenacity! I make such a lousy share-holder :(

A good chance his 600k restricted shares may expire same date as ours. He'll dump of course. This guy served federal time for SEC charges. Jim sure can pick 'em. And there's another spam site I know of. What a complete waste of shares & money.
What with this and the CCAA filing and trying to secure credit up to $5M and restricting the shares seems like he's trying to buy time for something. Probably an acquisition of course, but I'm not sure he can do it in time. Especially with banking sector credit crunch still on. I'll call him but I know he won't say anything. If the credit facility comes thru it would be one lit candle at least. Still looks to me like a buyer last few days. Who's gonna drop 5 figures on a penny momo 6 days old that's already a bagger?
sustained buys still today (10k, 5k). buy/sell volume close. any regular momo would be over now, the news hasnt been THAT great. almost seems maybe some insider buying? just a thought.
I don't get the 300 unrestricted part. That's weird. My broker's unrestricted shares remain invisible on my positions sheet until restriction is removed. I can't even see them till 6/12,14 whenever it is. So whats it gonna be then? $1.20 or .10 :)
Right now the chart is totally rad.

Some new small-cap NASDs the new penny stocks? Ha. Ch 11s are still a little behind the 1982 high but I'm sure we'll get there and then some. This all hurts creditors even more where the mess all started. I was blessed to have sold Friday. It pays to be cautious, no tellin' what will be in the news each morning.
