odd to trade so many shares with little movement in price
that is correct..it's too bad you can't buy stock on that.
some questions for the cc.....
1. What is the status with LG and each other specific arbitration
2. 2014 is not that far away...are there discussions with APPLE to create a new deal. Do we expect to get a much better rate from them WITHOUT litigation or will we be adding them to lawsuits when the contract expires. Is APPLE getting LTE or 4g etc for free from IDCC right now?
3. Detail on Sony
4. Is there still another patent sale being worked.
Can anyone either add more important questions or improve the ones I posed here and rank them as to importance?
maybe, but I have to admit in defense of mngmt here...there seem to always be conspiracies about the cc times almost every quarter and then it seems to end up coming to nothing other than it is probably just when all the management is available in the area.
I agree...it seemed obviously gullible at the time. I guess maybe it's a fine line between negotiating in good faith and trying to build a relationship and being duped.
so when will be the next court day? Tomorrow? Are they done until March? Thanks for any answer on that?
that is the way I was reading it too, which is why I don't see why someone else interpreted that there were some positives and some negatives for IDCC. I guess my common sense assumptions (like some of Mickey's?) aren't always what the law trasnlates too so will be interested to see what old dog and the other lawyers interpret for us at the end of the day.
That sounds possible...it doesn't seem like anything has come out negative.
Didn't domestic industry just get resolved at the CAFC??????
Mickey, that was actually a pretty good post.
According to their bonuses management is handling things unbelievably well so you must be wrong.
LG???? I keep seeing people ask about anything on where LG is or should be at and am not seeing any responses....either nobody has any idea...or maybe there is a giant cover up? :)
I too have been wondering as I saw a date thrown out there that there was an action expected in that arbitration and I have not seen anything else. Does anyone know anything or if there were any filings?
Dmiller, do you realize that when you make posts like this to be in a pizzing match against the 3 or so people on here that you tend to be in..that you are actually being a jerk to 100s of other people? It's hard to take things you say seriously when you continually do that. Just wondering if you ever think about that.
I doubt anyone knows for sure, but I would guess that Samsung's statement about IDCC "jumping the gun" whether relevant or not has some concerned that Samsung is looking to use the courts to drag things out with IDCC rather than trying to work on any settlement. Stock dropped...creating some sell pressure?
This will also give them more money to pay their lawyers.
Mickey, I don't really understand about the options shares, but when do you expect them to start raising the stock price? This isn't sarcastic, is it something that should be happening today or later in the week?
Jim, do you think you could task anyone to put this list together and get input to prioritise? I am happy to do something like this, but I think it is better suited to one of the big dogs on here as I am pretty much just an opinion person with not much stock market/technical/legal knowledge.
Mickey, yes, hopefully that has a positive effect, but historically the market makers seem to minimize the effects of those types of things. I guess we will see if it is different that time. 50 would be nice, but without any news that would surprise me in that short of a time.
That would be great and all, but I don't see any reason why to expect that the stock would shoot up 6 or more dollars on no news in the next 4 days.
That is somewhat true, but also I have seen that the questioins we have asked on this board are sometimes directly brought up on CCs. I even saw one time that durring a CC questions we asked in reference to something that was said was actually then brought up and answered as a follow up later in the call. Many times after the call is over we think to ask things that were forgot durring the call. I think it would be great if we had a prioritized list of the top questions we would like analysts to ask for each call as a sticky. Someone smarter than me should keep this list of legit good questions for each quarter. Maybe that would get some things answered for us.
no one wants to see the price drop that is long, but I don't really care if it is 44 or 42 or whatever...what matters is the next signing or settlement and it will be irrelevant.
that's comical...my wife actually just bought a sammy tablet because it is Exactly like the IPAD for a bit cheaper.
On the one hand I agree with you, however I am not FOR forgiving scorched earth tactics anymore. Everytime IDCC gives up a lot of ground to infringers after they make these long court battles it seems to enable them to do it again.
Dmiller..Nokia has also went from a wall street superpower to on it's way toward's bankruptcy using those business practices over these last 10 years.
My3...it's the 3rd settlement date for which parties in which case. Excuse my ignorance but would like to hear more detail if you have a minute.
Thanks.
Does anyone recall that in the original ITC action that there was verbiage of recommended action if the CAFC overturned the decision. It seems to me from my memory (which isn't that great) that the judge suggested that if there was a reversal then he recommended a Ban or something like that. Anyone have access to that verbiage to prove me right or wrong. Will this factor into the ITC?
you would, but it's only been like 10 seconds :) Maybe when we hear more on the 17th?

A combined petition for panel rehearing and for rehearing
en banc was filed by Intervenors, and responses
to the petition were invited by the court and filed by
Appellants and Appellee. By leave of court, a response to
the petition was filed by Hewlett-Packard Co., et al., as
amici curiae. The petition for rehearing and responses
were considered by the panel that heard the appeal, and
thereafter the petition for rehearing en banc and responses
were referred to the circuit judges who are in
regular active service.
Upon consideration thereof,
IT IS ORDERED THAT:
(1) The petition for panel rehearing is denied, and a
panel opinion and dissent are attached herewith.
(2) The petition for rehearing en banc is denied.
(3) The mandate of the court shall issue on January
17, 2013.
It's criminal that our politicians and judges are being paid off and influenced by corporations...it's treasonous that they are being so by foreign corporations :(
obviously no one expects that the 4g revenue will offset SAM, but I think no renewals for the short term maybe are priced in so this was a bump and also maybe some confidence that other deals can get done.
It is interesting that ZTE has leant some high credence to IDCC's portfolio in some articles but seems to have little interest in signing thus far. It will be nice to see the LG issue settled whenever it may be and hopefully SAM too.
I would think the RIM renewal (with 4G) gives that much more confidence in IDCCs portfolio. How can that not be a positive for the stock? I expected nothing anytime soon so today's news is a great positive in my opinion.
Sounds like great news concerning RIMM
Mickey you are certainly entitled to your opinion here, but too many times we have seen these baseless claims turn into expectations and then dissapointment which causes panic selling. I know you have been here a long time and I am not sure why you would think management would be pulling something like this off. They have mentioned a goal of 1 more patent sale next year and long term to get their liscenses up to 800million. I don't think they are so shrewd at liscensing that they would intentionally not being doing so. I just have concerns with that theory and the expectations it may create. Didn't mean to upset you. Happy Holidays.
Mickey, that is certainly not ANYTHING that management has discussed in their plans at all. They have stated very specific goals. Maybe you are right, but please don't spread that as anything but conjecture on YOUR part. Based on lack of comments from management on this topic is seems nothing but wild internet rumours to suggest this. In all my years here I have certainly not seen management pull off anything that sophisticated.
Mickey, I don't know how you would care if the stock rallies or drops a bit today or tomorrow as long as you have held...up is always good, but instead of rooting for a few cents or dollars I would think you would be rooting for real events to come to fruition for IDCC. Don't sweat the small stuff man.
OK< thanks for the education on that. It has always been confusing for me so I just stay away.
OK, I read that several times and Think I understand it, but WHO is the purchaser of the shorted share..it certainly isn't you or I or IDCC. I would assume it is the market maker entity that doese the actual buying/selling/shorting etc? Who would that be?
so it likely goes to a market maker entity...not to IDCC or any shareholder so that 9 million isn't benefitting reall IDCC shareholders? Is that the right way to look at it?
where does that 9 million get paid too?
I would say it's another example of the shareholders getting screwed and then "creditors" making off with the only money.
