Been there, done that, and was so pleased with the Hondas I've owned in the past that Honda is on my short list, too.
That's a good thought. Nice looking, quick, plenty of them for sale. I just put that on my short list.
I'm 57 with the attitude of a 17-year old.
Good call on the Jeep, but my wife already has a Grand Cherokee and although I love it, I'd rather have something different.
Well, I have a 1980 Malibu with a warm 350, (actually a 355) about 300-325hp best guess. Runs 13.96 @ 104 which is good enough to gobble up most (stock) Mustang GTs. New paint and interior, 3.73 gears, I'll find a picture and post it.
But I hate to drive it every day. I'm looking for something a little more tame. Although I've always loved the Firebird/Camaro. We've owned 3 Firebirds and 1 Camaro through the years.
I want something with 4 doors that I can haul my grandkids around in.
Oh, wow, that's got Edmunds web site beat all to heck.
Thanks.
Haven't heard of it (yet).
A 2002 Altima with the 3.5 litre V6 and common options is showing $17,300 at Edmunds. That's off a dealer's lot, about $900 less if you're buying from a private party.
Altima and Maxima would be at the top of my short list. I've had a Maxima and I kick myself every few days for ever selling it.
I'm going to Edmunds to see if I could get a 2002 6-cyl Altima for 14k.
IIRC I could get a 2001 Maxima GXE for around 14k.
Try not to think about me, tell me what YOU would buy.
POLL: You have to buy a car to get you to and from work, and maybe a little fun drive on the weekends. You absolute limit is $14,000 including taxes and registration.
What would you buy? Nothing new, not at that price. Don't concern yourself with me, what would YOU buy for 14k?
Sorry, I should have specified that. It'll be a daily to-from work commuter with the occassional trip up into the mountains on weekends, but on paved roads only. So four wheel drive is not required.
Small is OK, because other than the driver, there will seldom be a passenger riding along.
Gas milage is not an issue, because your commute to-from work is only 7 miles with only 1 traffic signal.
POLL: You have to buy a car, and your limit is $14,000 including taxes and registration fees.
There isn't much out there to buy new for under $14,000, so let's limit this poll to used cars only.
What would you buy? And why?
Just be carefull where you're touching me, wise guy.
DRRA 6-mo chart. I'm going to do some serious dd on this one
I have a problem with this Congressman. I think I'll fly over his community and drop a couple of "nukes".
Groan! An elected official, no less.
I think this puppy likes the snow as much as I do.
That is one of the funniest things I have EVER heard! Thank you thank you!
EZTO officially jiggy.
Circling the drain.
Buzz, I haven't been paying attention to SPWP. What ever happened at that trade show they were attending?
It is indeed. But with the upside volume as low as it's been the past week, I'd wait for a confirmation tomorrow before jumping in.
Unless you're already in. In that case, GLTY.
I realize that 'waiting for confirmation' is not a really popular phrase around here, but I have to do it because I've made soooo many bad mistakes by jumping the gun - falling for the head fakes, as it were.
SPN, my all-time favorite oil services stock, is reporting earnings tomorrow at 11:00am. Consensus is for .06 per share.
Like most mid-cap oil services stocks, SPN has been on a tear for the past 4 months. I've accumulated 400 shares at an avg of 13.77. Last trade today was 17.58. I believe that a surprise up will kick the momo in the rear and send it on up into the 18 dollar range.
Note that the lower bolli was almost coincident with the 50d MA. With the hesitation on the stock today, the lower bolli has diverged downward from the 50 day.
A bad surprise could signal the start of a strong reversal. I'm going to set a stop on it tonight. I would appreciate ANY input from you folks & thank you in advance.
Ok, I won't. Bet there is a good story in there somewhere.
Hey Buzz!! How was the time off?
The Dow has weak support at 3269. Will it fall through it today? There was significant support at 3326 but it just motored on through that like it didn't exist to close at 3314.
It is now below all the short term EMA lines, and in recent months this configuration was a setup for a nice reversal, but my gut feeling is that it isn't going to be today.
Oil prices seem to back out of the shadows and looming over the markets.
Other opinions? I learn a lot from the opinions posted on this board. tia.
Look at a one year chart of the majors, and it looks like they are all in the middle of a decline, and that there are plenty of bottoms for them to bounce off. None of them are exactly into the teeth-gnashing mode yet, just a farily normal looking correction.
Fortunately, a lot of the stocks we get involved with here aren't a component of those indexes. )
Not likely we'll see SPWP as a component of the S & P tomorrow.
That's pretty cool. What antihistimine is it? We have a Chinese restaruant here that guarantees NO MSG in any of their food.
Fortunately, it seems to be just about all over and done with. It's amazing how fast those bumps and red areas just disappear.
Deann, I went to the podiatrist this afternoon and had a shot of cortisone in my big toe, which was broken about 5 years ago and where the break and joint come together is totally encased in arthritis.
BUT... I had had the exact same injection two weeks ago with no problems.
As far as eating, well no, not really. There are only a certain number of places to eat lunch in our small city (pop 50k) and I've been to the all at least 50 times previous to today.
Here is what I think was the cause:
1) The doctor and her nurse use a freezing spray on the toe to keep down the sting of the needle penetrating the skin. Some of that spray may have been introduced into my system during the injection, which takes about 30 seconds. The welping and hitching started exactly 1¼ hours after the shot.
2) I used a brand new shower gel this morning in the shower, a gel I had never, ever used before.
3) I had an order of some pretty wild nachos for lunch, everything in it but the kitchen sink. Now, I have eaten this particular order from the same cafe before. However, as I said there is some pretty exotic looking stuff in their nachos. Including what I call "Mystery Meat" LOL.
2)
My three hives beats your two pair.
*singing* Doin' that crezy hand hives.
Currier and Hives.
Buckle up, it helps save hives.
Honey, we'll need steak hives on the table tonight.
This is News Channel Hive, with your hive o'clock update. Let's go now to Joe, hive on the seen of a traffic accident on the 405 that has traffic backed up for hive miles.
Bee Gees singing
Oh, oh, oh, oh, stayin' ahive, staying' ahive.
“The Stepford Hives” was a sorry movie.
Out for a Sunday hive.
Well, this is pretty interesting... Go to this web site, and in their public use area they have an alphabetical look up of skin diseases and acute conditions.
Yet they have NOTHING, as no entries, on HIVES. Maybe I should go to a bee-keeper's web site.
Yes, I broke out in hives today. Or I broke out with hives today. Or... hives erupted all over me today...
*sound of a banjo*
*voiceover*
Hello, folks, it's time for another songfest with Burl Hives."
PQUE 3 month daily chart. Wow, that is almost exactly what all the mid-cap oil services stocks look like right now.
It has been on a real tear since the first week of December, along with a lot of other mid-cap oil service stocks.
I have a larger-than-average (for me) position SPN, and it's up 3 bucks a share since early December.
IIRC, SOSA is up approx 22% since then. I think oil and pipeline service stocks, especially the mid- and small-caps, will be hot for the next few months.
Not to mention the big oil companies, of course. I can't play up there in the stratosphere, but check a 6 month chart on XOM for example.
Sorry, I just wanted to say that. I realize it has little to do with swing trading.
OH, by the way, I don't own SOSA, but I'm watching it pretty closely.
Very interesting indeed. He may have shot himself in the foot (or not) but brother, the issue is in their face now!
I have no doubt a lot of attention will get focused on his remarks, the core meaning of what he said, and the social problems he brings to light.
So in the long run, you have to see this whole flare-up as a positive thing, I think.
And you thought I was wacko:
Strange News - AP
PHILADELPHIA - Police chased a naked man through the city's slushy streets early Monday after he allegedly stripped off his bathrobe, bit an officer, then stole a police cruiser in an attempt to escape.
The man was captured after he smashed the cruiser into several parked cars, abandoned the vehicle and tried to get away in his bare feet.
The episode unfolded at around 1:30 a.m. when police were called to a block in North Philadelphia to investigate complaints about a person screaming in the street. Officers arriving on the scene said they found a man running about in his bathrobe in the freshly fallen snow.
The officers gave chase. The man shed his robe, then allegedly bit a female officer on the arm, climbed into her patrol car and hit the gas. He drove only a few blocks before crashing, police said.
Police did not immediately release the suspect's name. He faces charges including car theft and assault.
Sorry, don't know anything to do for a knee except RICE.
Rest & ICE, that is.
Here is one to watch for tomorrow: Ticker symbol SOSA, last trade 7.25.
Stolt Offshore S.A. Earnings Conference Call (Q4 2004)

Here's a strange cure that actually works:
I mentioned to my Doctor that on mornings after I'd been working around the house remodeling, or working out in the yard all day, I had a some pain in my lower back for about the first 2 hours after I got out of bed.
He told me to stretch my calf muscles. Said it makes a difference in the way you carry yourself, and the back pain would quickly go away. I was a touch skeptical, but he's a pretty good Doc so I didn't forget.
Sure enough, the next weekend I spent all day Sunday out working in and around the yard, and woke up Monday with a backache.
I stretched out my calf muscles, 30 minutes later the pain was gone! And it has worked every time for me since then.
Obviously, this is not a cure for every lower back problem in the world, but it sure did me a lot of good.
