I see trading now. $29.93
I spoke to my broker. She said that the stock is trading, and is currently at or around $29.94. She, has volume of approx 907,000, with the last sale in the last minute or so.
Someone just flashed 45,000 shares (approx) for sale at $30
I see bids/asks go by, but i haven't seen a sale in several minutes. Odd.
For those who did not see First Albany's estimate change of June 2:
First Albany Capital raised its estimates on InterDigital Communications Corp. to reflect new guidance and the impact of InterDigital adding Panasonic as a paying 3G licensee. For 2006, it raised its estimates to $477.7 million from $212.7 million. EPS estimates increase to $3.90 from $3.78. First Albany rates InterDigital at strong buy.

First Albany Estimate Change
somehow this was missed yesterday (this news is dated June 2)

As it approaches 9:00, I think the chances of pre-ASM announcement are diminishing. Though, I hope I'm wrong.
Why is it a "yawnnn" when TC downgrades us, but everyone cheers and makes a big deal when he upgrades us? To be clear and not to be accused of being negative, I am not commenting on whether TC's move is positive or negative, I simply raise the question of consistency.
8k on Panasonic says that we reached a deal, and that as of 12/31/05, Panasonic used $12m of its $19.5m pre-payment. First, any time we resolve a patent dispute voluntarily and get paid, its great news. Not to detract from that, but I do have a question as to why this deal only worth $3m a year? I assume part of the issue is that sales only recently increased, but am I incorrect to think that this number is lower than expected? Is this just a partial license? TIA.

Interesting that you know exactly how many pills in a bottle???
Order in Nokia/IDCC setting a NOVEMBER 6 date for a teleconference regarding whether the parties want to schedule mediation for spring of 2007 . While some may construe the fact that Order indicates that the parties should discuss the status of negotiations as a sign of a continuing dialogue between the parties, overall I strongly believe this confirms that the parties are a long way from settling this case.
Is there news? Why are we trading at $25.50, with the bid moving up?
JimLur,
Again, with all due respect, I respectfully disagree with your comment that "If investors stay on topic no pizzing matches will occur and that's my goal." In my post, I said it appeared that the buyback was not being effective in keeping the stock price up or stablized, noting that we might be a period in which we can't buy. The comment could not be more "on topic." Moreover, it sounds as though people agree. Lastly, I note that it was not an entirely negative comment, as I expressed stated the possibility that we might not be able to purchase now because of (hopefully good) news. In fact, if you go back and read a majority of my posts, they normally have at least one (and often 50% of) comments that are positive...people just choose to ignore those. As I've said before, its not that my posts are off topic, they just dont see the stock ONLY through rosy glasses. I concede the price prediction posts (e.g, the stock will fall today) wont be posted anymore, primarily because I am not qualified to make such a prediction.
Do you disagree with anything I said? If so, which part?
You said once the next license is announced we wont be able to purchase the stock at the share price we are at now. But, haven't we heard that mantra over and over again. I can't count the number of times people said that with respect to Nokia being settled. I can't count the number of times people said that after LG was signed. Well, we're at that price again or at least close to it.
I dont mean to be harsh, but aren't we all tired of having that expectation...and then it fails. That said, i hope you're right and we never see at 25 or below again!!
We appear to be on our way toward fulfilling IDCC's normal pattern of hitting 22 or 23, getting good news and running up to 28, and then making it back down to 22 or 23 in about 4 to 6 weeks. Like clockwork. Only wish I sold at 28 to buy again at 23 (two or three times now)
True. And, on the flip side, no Samsung PLA or other major PLA will likely cause us to trend down toward 20 or the upper teens. While I hope your scenario is right (and not mine), we need to keep our eyes on both sides of the coin.
And, I'm sure that Janet would risk her job and a possible criminal charge to give you a "vibe" as to what was happening inside the company. I'm not saying there won't be good news (in fact, I hope there is)....I'm simply saying I'm certain Janet did not tip her hand one way or the other on the issue.
On what grounds are you claiming this is "essential"? I'd like to know who on here is qualified to make such representations, and who on here is just saying it based on his or her layperson's reading of technical language.
Can you please explain the basis for your opinion, including why you think they are "major"? Thanks.
If we do not get a Samsung settlement and no other licencees, how much depreciation do you think we will get? The stock price looks at both sides.
How many times do you think we'll have this pattern of running to 27 or 28, and then falling back below 25?
OT: Mschere.......
please have ashearts call me (but dont let the new mom know, so be discrete).
The buyback sure is effective in supporting the stock price. Unless we have news, we always languish down on small ticks. Why isn't the buyback supporting the price, particularly with the low volume here?
What's your point? I said that "at least some people were expecting" a bad quarter. I did not say that we would have a bad quarter, or even that I was expecting a bad quarter myself. Reading comprehension classes are available.
Glad to see good news! It would be nice to see a Samsung follow up in the next week or two to keep the price moving in the right direction.
Jim,
With all due respect, while you do a great job maintaining this board, I cannot agree that there was anything wrong with my last post. I simply said that I think we will trade in the 22 to 25 range until we get a new licensee because the Nokia information is now all priced in and the volume is gone. I understand that this may not be the rosey picture some on here want to view the stock through, but there was nothing inappropriate about it. It is no different than the dozens of posts on here claiming we are going to a hundred (and, quite honestly, its a lot more likely that we will be in the 25 range in the near future than anywhere near 100). As for the hangover comment, that's how I feel about it. We jumped up to 29 on a high, and now the "hangover" is settling in at 25. As I've always said, there are good and bad aspects of this stock, people are not posting incorrectly by looking at both.
Can you please explain to me why we would move up in any significant manner without the announcement of a new licensee? All other info is already priced in. Thanks in advance.
Looks like the Nokia party has ended and the hangover is beginning. Without new licenses, I expect the 22 to 25 trading range to return for a while. IMO, this will be our range until we can prove more 3G licenses
The price action leads me to believe that at least some in the market are not expecting great earnings tomorrow.
We already have asks below the closing price, i expect a rough morning.
Am I correct that excluding Nokia's money, the expectation is that our Q1 earnings would be below that estimate?
Can't sustain a break above 26. Are there a lot of shares for sale there?
Easy, because it makes it so IDCC can't sue them for that time frame.
Right here. As i said, i think this is a good day. I know most dont believe it because I try to look at things from both sides, but I am very long and quite happy with the price move.
I am quite long this stock, and very pleased that 2G is behind us. This is a good day. I am just curious to hear where we are on 3g, that's all.
No. All 3G issues remain on the table, except that Nokia is all paid up for 3G sales as of today.
I know you are well aware that IDCC has not always exceeded analysts consensus estimate. They missed quite badly a few times, including Dec. 05.
No one cares about the past if we miss current estimates. If we miss, i think we might see the teens again, particularly if there are no new licenses.
