2. I like your logic. If you carefully read the publication from the mouse study, they clearly state that the lowest dose in mice that achieved maximum response (more cells did not do better), would translate to 50,000 cells in humans (scaled for differences in eye size).

PHI trials are about safety AND establishing a dose response. So, if they got a really good response with 50,000 cells, the delema is that they might have gone to FDA for guidance, perhaps to even modify the trial to include a "lower dose". Folks, it really is important to establish a dose response curve. You might say that it is unethical to treat patients with a lower dose if they know the higher one cured. But, they actually do not know that until a large population of patients has been treated. If you still do not get it then I remind you that cancer trials contain placebo controls that are sentenced to death every day--get the point.

I do not like to be overly positive because I have really been burned before. However, I can not believe that someone with Lanza's prefessional reputation would make the comments that he has made without total confidence that the treatment works--in a big way.

1. 30,000 cells were all that was needed to restore sight in the animal models, and the company always knew this and planned the first cohort to be not only efficacious and safe, but also to restore sight. Maybe 50,000 cells is even more than twice as needed to restore sight and there is no reason to inject larger numbers into patients because it would never be needed. Additionally, not having to have tested other patients would save us all that extra cash on hand to be used for the other applications in our pipeline. I truly never bought Gary's statement (during the last conf. call) about why the second round of injections hadn't already been completed. Something massive is about to happen to the value of this company and I'm gonna be darned sure I'm either riding the rocket to the stupid moon or right into the ground where it implodes beyond recognition. The greatest riches are products of the greatest risks.
