Jefferies notes that although the Intel (INTC) deal is still negatively impacting Marvel's (MRVL 17.10) profitability, they believe it is on track and MRVL is well positioned to regain profitability and revenue growth in CY08 as it benefits from multiple product cycles and drives operational leverage within its acquired assets. 09:40 MRVL Marvell: Checks show orders likely ramping in storage & wireless, driving better Q3 prospects -Wedbush (17.52 +0.06)
Wedbush says that recent checks suggest MRVL's orders are strengthening led by its Storage, Wireless, and WiFi chip segments. The firm says that rev guidance could be $700-710 mln, better than consensus estimates. 2008 consensus EPS estimates are still too high, in their view, an ongoing stock overhang.
CIBC downgrades Marvell (MRVL 17.45) to Sector Perform from Outperform saying though they believe Marvell has passed the bottom, it may be hard to live up to renewed bullish expectations for growth....
08:28 MRVL Marvell: Poised for better growth as end markets improve - Needham (18.58 )
Needham says their Buy rating on MRVL is based on their belief that its end markets (especially Storage) are likely to improve in C2H07 and that MRVL has a number of new drivers (XScale, Apple iPhone, Printer ASIC, etc.) to support better growth in CY2008 and beyond. With the overhang of stock-option review and outstanding filings behind the co, they believe MRVL can be more focused on growing these new opportunities. Therefore, they believe investors should start accumulating a position before resumption of growth become more apparent.

Looks good, what I like here earning report Sept 7.Its the one thing that can bring a stock down so time is on our side.6.30 looks like resistance,i could see it running to 7.00- 7.50.Lets face it semi's place to be.
S2 Sounds good always look for something new to pay for gas and my 2007 Mercedes SLK 280.(its red).Again thanks for all your work.
I play earning releases which gap up, sometimes the stock just doen't go my way.Sometimes I'll hold overnight to see if it reverses,if not move on.Most times those stocks would become good shorts, but again I DO NOT SHORT.Something you should know,i do not use stops.YES I know they tell you should.I just don't like putting out their what i'm prepared to sell at.I buy in my day trades in 1000 share or more lots.I find it amazing during the day my entry price very often ends up being a support price. This i cannot explain but find interesting. If you follow stocks long enough,be it earning, positive news, upgrades, you will learn to follow patterns in how the stocks react.
What I see is a positive MACD.With the for indicators i use 5 EMA,20 SMA 50 SMA AND 200 SMA.Whenever they cross each other, interest builds, which relates to increased buying,or selling.I use the 5ema as support and resistance.Thats it.I use the same indicators for swing trades or daytrades.I will tell you my success rate runs at 92%.I have used around 20 different sites on over the years and with all there methods, they haven't come close. They all have there systems, problem is,like I said in the past this is a game,KISS.
s2,one more day to hit 19,think i'll make it.Sometimes you have to put the tech's a side.As I posted on JUNE 14 - Semi's in general are moving up.Starting next week I expect MRVL to move north of 19.00.With positve news the following week we will see a GAP up of 2.50 to 3.00 range. This will be followed by 2.00 GAIN in regular trading.I'am looking at 25 to 26 range. At present any pull back will be only to the 5EMAe.Fear of missing the boat.

S2 remeber this post,S2 i think we will see MRVL 20+ by end of month. Why bounce off positive doji, remember i said to buy THURSDAY.Next stock above 5ema always moves north.Possible "three white solider" as no one wants to be left behind.Once the MACD goes positive which it is very close to again pushes stock north.Next once 5ema moves up through 20 sma and they move through 50 sma all result in stock going north.I have found in a lot of stocks most times poitive news comes out once a stock is aligned in order of 5EMA ,20SMA ,50SMA 200SMA.If MRVL comes out with statement after this has happened we will see a additional 3 to 4 dollar gap up.Why this year the gaps have been very strong. So we may see that 24 to 25 sooner than people think.IF WE ARE GOING TO 30 TO 35 BY YEARS END IT NEEDS TO MOVE NOW.works for me.
S2 Have you ever heard this before."When the President is out of the country the DOW (market)pulls back.I heard this about two years back and it seems to fall in place.Other than the last two years i have no records. The source was from a long time trader from New York.

Yes,you make some valid points. However the point being are you a short term trader looking for a fast buck or a invester in the stock. If you were a short term trader its up to you to put in your stops and move on.As a invester you look at the long term prospects of the stock. What I find interesting on this site people who have sold out of MRVL were likely over invested to begin with.It comes down to money management. You should always have the capital,as i do to double down as they say.I love when people quote how much they have made %.That to me means noting.A 100 return on 100 is 100% big deal.Put real money down.Play all the options you you like,to me its a suckers game.Buy the stocks hold them make real money. If you can't afford to lose or hold use your stops.I personally have never used a stop in MANY MANY YEARS OF TRADING.To me its the red flag i'll take this if you bring the price down. Most people who enter the market to trade to start with are far to under invested. My advise you should have a 50,000 at least and no more than 10,000 per investment.Paper trade for aleast a year learn the market and than maybe all you economic majors will make a $.Just getting pissed with all the whinnninnng.
Cloner the problem I see here is misinformation. This is a game we play, its who can out smart the other. As in Gartner statment "the industry's fortunes are increasingly tied to spending on electronic gadgets".Who's buying these gadgets income has no effect, they become must have items. Its strange how this forcast comes out and "SMH" has best day upward in almost three weeks.
Never have, always pay april 15 on total earning.IRS sends out 1/4 payment plan expecting you to pay which is your option. The question is;what if you only made money in first quarter, does gov't loan you cash for rest of the year.Get my point, like stocks you can't perdict the future so hedge your bet and pay yourself first and them last.Maybe the accountants are different in CALI VERSUS MN
S2 I'am mtm trader and i do not pay taxes per 1/4.As my accountant advises hold your cash as long as possible. It sure gives me much more flexablity when i do make a bad trade. As you know up one day down the next and vise vera.Takes away the wash sale.I quess i'm one of the lucky 100.Since this is my only income maybe that may be the difference.By the way one thing I don't do is use any biz deductions as it's strictly set up based on profit and loss.As soon as you start using household deductions that becomes the red flag for IRS.By the way with so many jumping ship here latey tells me one thing.BUY,BUY AND BUY.Thanks for your insight better than most i've read over the years.
S2 WONDER WHY YOU HAVEN'T CHANGED YOUR TAX STATUS TO MTM TRADER.SINCE YOUR EXCELLANT AT READING CHARTS, WOULDN'T THAT BE A ADVANTAGE.
Can you believe UBS upgrades MRVL from reduce to neutral.
they could buy back 25 million shares
08:05 MRVL Marvell: Rev growth remains on track - BWS Financial (16.51 )
Boutique firm BWS Financial notes that MRVL reporting fiscal first quarter results helped calm the waters as to how the hard disk industry was impacting the co, but also put a dim view as to fiscal second quarter. Now that MRVL has moved beyond the inventory problems of the last two quarters the hard disk industry seems to have reverted back to historical seasonal trends. Firm notes MRVL is creating a complete package of solutions for digital entertainment products. Firm says this should start to create some momentum in revs over the next twelve months and is a factor that investors are not giving much credit to.
07:39 MRVL Marvell: Color on qtr (17.00 )
FBR says MRVL delivered a disappointing report, missing slightly on revenue for FY 1Q08, and also guided FY2Q below consensus. While the co is still not yet reporting full financials, they say it also appears that expense levels were elevated as well. Their ests come down as a result. Net, with weakness in storage, elevated expense levels, and a continuing overhang from the options investigation, the firm is not yet convinced that fundamentals have bottomed. They do believe that handsets are likely to be a source of optimism for 2008, but they think it is too early to be buyers of MRVL shares... CIBC says that with soft reports out of H.D.D makers this past earnings season and weak data for Sony's PS3 and Motorola's handset unit, they believe this was built into investor expectations. The firm says clearer skies are visible on the horizon, and they believe the stock is largely washed out... Prudential remains concerned about the integration of the Intel xScale acquisition, the options investigation, and the risk of multiple contraction as more investors use EPS estimates that include options expense. They continue to believe the risk/reward equation is skewed to the negative.
16:10 MRVL Marvell reports Q1 revs below consensus (17.00 -0.04) -Update-
Co reports Q1 revs $635.1 mln vs $645.36 mln Reuters consensus; does not report EPS due to ongoing options investigation. "The growth in our Q1 revenues was limited due to an overall weaker demand environment across some of our markets... Despite the seasonal softness, we continue to be excited about the progress we are making in applying our technologies to serve additional large market opportunities which should enable us to deliver solid long term growth."
14:41 MRVL Earnings Preview: Marvell (17.02 -0.02) -Update-
MRVL is scheduled to report Q1 results (revs only) tonight after the close, with analysts looking for $645.36 mln in revs... Amtech anticipates revs near the midpoint of its guidance range of $640-650 mln (they are at $645 mln). Due to the ongoing options investigation, MRVL will not likely report full financials; however, they believe restatements will be within a few weeks with the internal options investigation completed. The firm is buyers of MRVL shares at these levels as they find the risk-reward favorable at 17.5x CY08 EPS with bad news priced in, declining inventory, and improving fundamentals... Deutsche Bank believes MRVL's Q1 likely to be weaker than $640-645 mln guidance and guide Q2 flat to up slightly vs St up 6%, and the firm up 2%. However, given valuations, the impact of positive seasonality in storage in 2H:07, and GM upside potential from XScale, they believe that MRVL will see significant upside in 2H07. They believe that Q2 will be the last estimate cut (by the firm or the co) and positive seasonality in storage in 2H07 will cause upside vs significantly lowered expectations. The firm also believes the majority of uncertainties related to mgmt have passed and the co should resume its growth in 2H07... Jefferies expects CQ1 results and CQ2 rev below St. They believe storage was likely down Q/Q due to a seasonal decline in consumer and the well known weakness in the desktop and laptop market. Although they do not anticipate Marvell to report EPS, they believe CQ1 EPS was $0.07, below St. of $0.09. They believe the co will guide Q2 rev to roughly $650-$660 mln. 08:48 MRVL Marvell: Q1 preview - BWS Financial (17.04 )
BWS Financial notes MRVL is set to report Q1 results after the close today. Firm says there is much expectation the co would have been able to fully resolve the inventory situation of the last two quarters. Firm says there is also a growing consensus that MRVL would provide guidance that is below expectations. They feel that the market has fully priced in any disappointment at this point with little premium for the possibility of the co guiding higher or reporting better than expected results. Firm feels that a bottom is in place in MRVL shares and the earnings report should result in the stock making another attempt at the $20 level.
09:09 MRVL Marvell: Guidance could be slightly light, but believe bad news is already priced in - Amtech (16.96 )
Amtech notes that MRVL is due to report its April quarter results this Thursday after the close. Based on the firm's analysis, they anticipate revenue near the midpoint of its guidance range of $640-650 mln (they are at $645 mln vs. consensus of $646.5 mln). Due to the ongoing options investigation, MRVL will not likely report full financials; however, they believe restatements will be within a few weeks with the internal options investigation completed. The firm is buyers of MRVL shares at these levels as they find the risk-reward favorable at 17.5x CY08 EPS with bad news priced in, declining inventory, and improving fundamentals. They see upside to $24 based on a 25x multiple on their CY08 EPS of $0.97.
