Anything for you, PutzMueler!
Thanks Boilermaker for sharing your thoughts.
Holy cow! The volume just jumped from 44k to 192k!
From today's Lincoln Journal Star:
The company hoping to mine rare metals in Southeast Nebraska now says the mine could be an even bigger economic boon for the area than previously estimated.
Niocorp Developments Ltd. on Tuesday released an updated feasibility study that now estimates the mine could generate nearly $21 billion over its useful life, about 16% more than what was estimated in the original feasibility study released in June 2017.
Some of that is due to the fact that the mine is now expected to produce for 36 years, four more years than what was estimated in the original study.
Niocorp is hoping to extract niobium, scandium and titanium from the site near Elk Creek in Johnson County, about 70 miles southeast of Lincoln.
The company continues to try to raise money to pay for construction of the mine, and the new feasibility study provided good news on that front as well.
It now estimates it will take approximately $880 million to build the mine and get it up and running, down from an earlier estimate of just more than $1 billion.
The reduction in costs is largely due to new technologies the company plans to use, including artificial ground freezing technologies for mine shaft sinking and onsite water treatment that eliminates the need to construct a pipe to discharge excess water into the Missouri River.
“This new mining plan and feasibility study update is a major step forward in the effort to advance the Elk Creek Project to financing, construction and commercial operation,” Niocorp CEO Mark Smith said in a news release.
The company has been working on developing the mine since 2011. It had originally hoped to begin construction last year, and has not given an update on when work might begin.
In a December presentation to investors, Niocorp said negotiations on funding sources were going, "very well," and it was trying to make the process "go as fast as possible."
I am curious to see what the shareprice does today. It may take a while for this information to spread outside of our Niocorp watching circle.
YES, YES Just checked my email, so much great news across the board. Big F is near!
I have not had the opportunity to speak with anyone that was there, I have been out of town the last couple of days. I will work on this and report back.
I was able to pick up a nice lot of shares today as well. I too now have a lot more shares than I ever expected to be able to accumulate. Hopefully we can look back at this last year as a blessing when tbe shareprice takes off.
Apparently, Scott Honan made a presentation to our local school board in Tecumseh last week, I don't have any details as to what was said but I see this as a positive.
ge11, I will look into it.
Great work Hetfield!! The talents possessed by members of this board never cease to amaze me!! As well as the spare time.
ge11, I do the same. As a novice investor, I have learned a lot by monitoring this board. I see my investment here as a "swing at the fences" I would miss the money I have invested here if the project goes south, but it would not dramatically affect my retirement, on the other hand, a solid shot over the right-field wall could greatly enhance my retirement years.
ge11, AO, Landmark, Aiebusva - Thanks for the help. Hopefully, we can meet soon at the groundbreaking ceremony. GLTA
I went back and reread the companies corporate presentation powerpoint. We have applied for our PSD air permit, I understand that this is needed prior to site construction. The monitoring for this permit was completed on August 19, 2017. My question is if we get financing, which I believe will happen soon, how much work can be done on the site before we get this permit? Can anyone help me out?
Nobody, myself included wants to be the guy that sold shares minutes, hours, days before financing is announced.
Nice catch Middleborder. There has been an office in Tecumseh for quite a while now. Can't say that I ever see anyone there but I have not been looking. I will keep an eye open. I see no reason to add this office to the website unless someone may need to contact the company at this office. Building a mine 7 miles away may give someone a reason.
It is more likely that Johnson County (the county where the mine is located) is among the poorer counties in Nebraska.
I don't know about Nebraska being the poorest state in the country.

Volume over 100,000 already this morning. Something brewing?
Not that I don't trust you Landmark, (but I distrust a lot of things said on April 1) I went to the mining technology website and searched "Elk Creek", I found your posted article with an associated date of April 3rd. I am satisfied. It seems to me that we will be getting a lot of information from the company in the next two years if they are going to meet a production deadline of April 2021. This is great news!!
A Mark Smith quote from today's Largo press release:
"Largo's Board of Directors is examining alternatives for the return of capital to its shareholders in the form of share buybacks and/or dividends as well as using its excess cash and cash flows to finance the potential further expansion of its high-quality vanadium Maracás Menchen mine in Brazil. Acquisitions of other companies or mining projects are not part of Largo's current strategy."
Rename it "NIOBAR"
AGREED!!
I know that NIOCORP has contacted the city of Tecumseh (from an article in the Tecumseh Chieftain some time ago) to supply water to the site. In order to do that The city will need to add additional well(s). I would be shocked if these wells are on our mine site. I believe that all of our city water comes from wells that are miles north of Tecumseh. The mine is 7 miles south of town.
If I were offered $10 a share today I would jump at it. That said given the current share price this is highly unlikely. I think the big money at this point is in getting financing and building a company. Do that well and maybe your big money buyout offer comes later. JMO
I am not ready to go down that road just yet. We will all be much better off if Mark and team take their time and get us the best deal that they can. If this takes a little longer than planned I am willing to wait. Good things come to those who are willing to wait.
Good point! Putz
I am confident we will see financing soon. I am curious as to how it will be announced. Will it be a Monday after hours PR, will we have a trading halt? What are your best guesses?
The nearest river to our mine is the Nemaha river this tributary of the Missouri river is generally to shallow to canoe on for most of the year. At this time the Nemaha is high but I have not heard any reports of it flooding.
Putz, Thanks for your kind wishes. Nebraskans are hardy people that will bounce back from this.
Nebraska is currently a mess if you are trying to travel. We are digging out of a blizzard over most of the western part of the state and the recent rains combined with frozen ground and melting snow is causing flooding like I have never seen. I have lived in Nebraska for the last 50 years. That said our mine site is muddy but unaffected. (I live 7 miles away) It may be difficult to travel anywhere in the state for a few days but in a week or so all will be life as usual here. You will all have no problem attending the red shovel groundbreaking. VERY SOON I HOPE!
Could it be that Nordmin is done but that has not been announced for some reason?
So sorry to hear, Condolences to you and your family. It was obvious from his posts how much he cared for his family. RIP Family6
It will be worth the wait!!
U.S. Geological Society description of Elk Creek Carbonatite
"The Elk Creek carbonatite, located south of Lincoln, has the potential to be one of the largest global resources of niobium and rare-earth elements (REE). These REE's have many important applications in industry, including petroleum-cracking catalysis, steel alloying, and glass polishing, and as sources of permanent magnets and phosphorus for television and lighting.
HkWagner you are correct that we have no clue what is going on behind closed doors. That is the reason it is so important to have a team that we trust making these decisions. I believe in Mark and this team.
Windchill was down to -18F last night, ground freezing is underway.
Nebraska is in the midwest.
I think it makes perfect sense to WAIT ON FINANCING if there is a good likelihood that the US govt. will jump into the deal. This is a totally different scenario than being unable to negotiate to finance. I am far from an expert in these things but it sure seems to me that low or no interest loans or a prepaid offtake agreement would go a long ways towards minimizing dilution. Mark will get us the BEST deal possible, I am willing to wait for that big payoff.
