MIR, Fuel cells and EDIG.
Mary, about a year ago I asked you about fuel cells and you Emailed me back a list of companies to review. In Todd Shaver's newsletter, The Bull Market Report, www.bullmarket.com, he addresses fuel cells. First the small part [taken out of context] then part of the news letter.
"The first generation of compact fuel cells is set to hit the market
sometime next year. Consumers will utilize them for everything from
laptops to MP3 players, mobile phones and digital assistants. Traditional
batteries have proven insufficient for today's power-hungry portable
devices, but compact fuel cells can last up to 10 times longer than their
predecessors. They are also environmentally friendly."
QUESTION: Could you please advise me which companies are dominant players
in fuel cell technology for portable electronic devices?
TODD'S ANSWER: If you are considering an investment in fuel cell
technology, Ballard Power Systems (BLDP, $19.56, down 0.01) may warrant
further consideration.
The company has centered its efforts on the development of automobile fuel
cells and large, stationary fuel cells. Notwithstanding its notable
success over the past several years, however, Ballard stands to benefit
immensely if it also decides to develop fuel cells for portable electronic
devices.

Ballard has already proven itself as THE industry leader in automobile
applications, and there is no reason to believe that it cannot experience
similar success in the realm of compact fuel cells. We would like to
mention, however, that this stock is not necessarily for every investor.
While the returns should be significant over time, this type of "concept"
stock with little earnings and uncertain prospects is best suited for
aggressive investors only.

"tools for programming flash" Is this our part?
Could we be involved in the part that is in bold?
"hardware designs for full multimedia and hands-free phone kit based on Intel StrongARM and future Intel XScale processors;
technical library that features hardware design guides and software development notes;
tools for programming flash[/b} and debugging applications; and
links to various third party tool vendor downloads that are focused on operating systems and Java application development.
The Intel Telematics Design Center is a part of the Intel® Personal Internet Client Architecture (Intel PCA) Developer Network announced in August. The Intel PCA Developer Network offers wireless companies development, technical and marketing support -- including access to more than 300 tools -- for designing cell phones, personal digital assistants (PDAs) and other mobile Internet devices and applications supporting Intel PCA. Intel PCA is an open hardware and software architecture that accelerates the development of wireless Internet devices and applications"
CDR: Thank you, I will follow up on your suggestion.

Good morning all, just got back from a week in Reno. I had rented a laptop to get quotes and keep up on everything, but I couldn't get it to work. So I hung out at the crap table instead. One of the MSFT whiz kids, shirt pulled out of the dryer, shorts, sandals, bearded and balding, 40ish was playing with $1,000 chips. At one time he had over $120,000 in chips in front of him. He helped develop Windows for MSFT. I played craps with with for two days--early morning until late night, however, I was playing $5.00 chips. I've made arrangements to play with him again at the Comdex and CES. I'm not the last of the big time spenders--I took $200 to play with, but I came home with $1300. I did much better at the tables than with my stock position last week.
Now I'm home and want to start organizing a breakfast meeting for the SHM. I'm thinking of the following format for the morning of the SHM: Breakfast at 9:30 followed by 2 or 3 10 minute speakers with questions and sharing to follow. I need the name of a restaurant or hotel to contact near the Escondido Center where the SHM will be held that could accomodate up to 100 of us. Please help me put this together. When I asked in June why the new Intel board members didn't buy any EDIG stock, Robert Putnam answered that they couldn't. He emphasized that they could not because of the "insider" rule, they can't buy, based on their insider knowledge. I sure wish we knew what that info was!
From Murgirl's post:
"Lernout & Hauspie's Dragon NaturallySpeaking is one of the leading speech recognition programs on the market."
Note the Trademarked word "Dragon" associated with L&H's speech technology. I'm wondering if the Pyro software that also uses this term is associated with L & H? Since we are IBM cencentric, I wonder if that kind of leaves us out?
"User friendly" reads voice navigation to me.
the user-friendly TV-centric environment
OT Tin, breakout the hampster dance.
cksla: the parts in bold sould like EDIG??
GmbH with USB flash memory reader technology. SCM's readers will be bundled with the first MP3 compatible car audio system integrating visual display capabilities, launched by Blaupunkt at the IFA show in Berlin.
Blaupunkt's new MP3 car audio system, the Virtual Changer, is compatible with all Blaupunkt car radios and includes a MP3 player, a 1GB capacity IBM Microdrive for music storage and n SCM USB digital media reader. Unlike other MP3 car audio systems on the market, Blaupunkt's Virtual Changer displays a musical index and details about individual selections, so listeners can navigate the music files just as they would on a traditional CD changer.
so the line up is ??
Clie Sony
Cleo ?
Clio Vadem
Sentinel: Is Vadem a subsidirary of SONY or does it have any connection to Sony? Who is Vadem? ORY
Email from Wendy Volan: I asked about the Cleo on the Volan web site.
Thank you for your inquiry. The SONY trademark I believe you are referring to is “Clié”.

cksla, thanks.
OT: Sings in parts?
What does a JB with VoiceNav do to the Treo market--any ideas on differences in price?
The sign saying "Solutions" was on many pictures flashing across the site, but very briefly, I could see it on a little kiosk behind a cable car. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck..............? (To use an Orygun expression!)
OT: Yes, a little anxious because traders, not investors, buy on the rumor and sell on the news. So, if we get good news sometimes the stock sells down on that news; however if there isn't any news, the stock trades down anyway.
OT: Oouch! I hate to be wrong. LOL
Or a little bit of plastic that holds it up for the photo.

We've got a new trade marked word, "VOICENAV." RP does still give 'hints' of the future during interviews!
moxa1, I may have missed something here (I just came on line); is this Classis player on the shelves now? When will it be availiable to buy?
Back in November when Rbt. Jecmen was announced as our newest board member it was mentioned that he served on the BOD of a couple of little companies. Does anyone know upon what other company's board he sits?
[OT Nobucks: why did you post this under Off Topic? Dot connecting is Right On!]
cksla, Looking at the date on this post, we should be hearing about this anytime; maybe it will be on the 2002 cars? This could be the INTC application that we've all been waiting for. I GO BACK AND HARP ON THIS ONE MORE TIME: RP mentioned navigation with emphasis on 6-19-01 when I was in Poway. And again, I'm not sure he was referring to telmatics or ????? Lois
Cal_Law: Going for broke was not what I had in mind! LOL
Sentinel, I've been reading posts since last Fall and I don't remember reading about infra red transfer as a "core EDIG" technology. Could you give me any direction in finding out about this?
