How Does PaperClick Work?
The PaperClick system consists of two basic components: PaperClick Device Software and the PaperClick Resolution Service.
The PaperClick Device Software is a small program that an end user installs on his or her cell phone, Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) or personal computer. This software is responsible for helping the user's web browser display the content associated with a machine readable identifier.
The PaperClick Resolution Service is software that runs on a server on the Internet. It manages the relationships between individual identifiers and their associated web pages. We call these relationships "mappings." When a user reads an identifier with the device software, the server is responsible determining what web page the identifier's owner wanted displayed and returning it to the user's web browser.
The following diagram shows a simplified version of how PaperClick works:
The steps in the process are:
The PaperClick Device Software reads the identifier (a barcode in this case).
It creates a web address referring to the PaperClick Resolution Service, and gives this to the browser.
The browser uses that web address to send the request to the Resolution Service.
The Resolution Service takes the identifier out of the web address it receives, and looks it up in its database of mappings.
The database returns the web page associated with the identifier.
The Resolution Service returns the destination web page information to the browser.
The browser then contacts the correct web site to obtain the specified page.
The web site returns the content to the browser so that the user can see it.
All the interaction between the Device Software, the browser and the Resolution Service is completely transparent to the customer. From their point of view, it's "click on a barcode, see a web page."

Welcome to Hong Kong Patent Agency (HKPA)
1) Who are HKPA?
We are a firm of Patent Attorneys based in Hong Kong dealing solely with the filing of Hong Kong patent applications.
Over the last few years, we have filed 1,000's of Hong Kong patent applications.
We employ Patent Attorneys with 20 years of patent experience
in Hong Kong.
All of our Patent Attorneys are fully qualified (which is not true for most Hong Kong patent agents).
The main language used by all of our staff is English for easier communication with clients, although we do have Chinese translators, who are needed for preparing a Chinese translation of titles and abstracts.
2) Why file a Hong Kong patent?
Hong Kong is 8th largest trading entity in the world.
As will be seen from the map acting as the backdrop to this homepage, Hong Kong acts as the main conduit for imports into and exports out of Southern China, which accounts for the vast majority of patents infringements in China.
The filing of a Hong Kong patent is relatively cheap compared to patent applications in virtually any other country of the world.
Filing a Hong Kong patent requires the simple go ahead from you, since we obtain all the necessary filing documents at our end.

NeoMedia Technologies, Inc., Sees Its Growing Patent Portfolio As `Core Component` of Its Immediate and Long-Term Growth
http://www.eetimes.com/pressreleases/bizwire/59290
February 21, 2003 (9:00 AM EST)
FORT MYERS, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 21, 2003--NeoMedia Technologies, Inc. (OTCBB: NEOM), an innovator and international leader in technologies which make information faster and easier to access, said today that it views its growing patent portfolio as a "core component" of its strategic plan for 2003 . . . and beyond.
"Traditionally -- if there is tradition in an industry as young and dynamic as Information Technology, smaller companies have often been the pioneers, with larger companies having the marketing muscle and financial wherewithal to successfully launch and bring products to market," said Chas Fritz, NeoMedia founder and chairman. "Such has been the case with NeoMedia, as we were awarded patents and earned a worldwide reputation for our print-to-Internet innovations.
"NeoMedia now has five patents, including our newest one, which eliminates the need to link to the Internet for information traditionally found there."
U.S. Patent 6,434,561, issued in August 2002, deals with improved methods of converting information placed directly on a physical object into PC-readable data utilizing two-dimensional bar codes pioneered by industry leader Symbol Technologies, Inc., (NYSE: SBL) and various data compression techniques, along with software and desktop image scanners. Each 2 to 3-inch bar code can hold 2 to 3KB (equivalent to 2 to 3 printed pages), depending on the data compression technique used.
One example of how NeoMedia's new technology can be used is in banking, where such a two-dimensional bar code would appear on a bank statement. Then, using software and an image scanner -- and without linking to the Internet -- the user could easily and accurately import the bank statement information into Quicken(R), Microsoft(R) Money, etc. The bank would save by not having to store the information online, and the user would save time -- and possible errors -- by not having to re-key.
Dr. Kevin Hunter, the company's chief scientist, and NeoMedia's former executive vice president, Robert T. Durst, Jr., developed the technology for which this patent was issued.
NeoMedia's four previous patents pertain directly to linking documents, physical objects and transactions directly to Internet-based information, using a variety of auto-ID technologies including bar code scanners, RFID, voice recognition, and magnetic stripe cards.
'Major Profit Opportunity'
"Our robust portfolio protects technologies which use interfaces very much in demand today, particularly RFID and voice," said Fritz. "These and many other indexing methods are required by many of the top IT companies worldwide. We believe our patents represent a major profit opportunity, especially as applications using RFID and voice grow in acceptance -- and in sales -- at rates exceeding industry growth overall."
NeoMedia's strategic goal of having its portfolio of patents and other intellectual properties as profit centers is "not new . . . not new at all," said Fritz. "Much as any pioneer, NeoMedia has been ahead of its time, ahead of the curve," Fritz said. "Now, many major IT companies here at home and around the world need the technologies we developed to keep their own products 'leading edge'.
"NeoMedia's patents substantially strengthen our intellectual property rights to products, systems and methods," he said. "As the rest of the IT world 'discovers' applications we invented, developed and patented, NeoMedia will aggressively develop this rapidly emerging market as well as license our technology, as appropriate, while our intellectual property position continues to reinforce our early vision and initiative.
"You can't pick up a newspaper today without reading about patent infringements by major companies," he said. "Our patented technologies are in demand, and we are aggressively working to protect them," noting that more than a year ago NeoMedia took a major step toward achieving our strategy to merchandise its patents "by joining forces with a recognized leader in the IP field (see "NeoMedia Contracts with Baniak Pine & Gannon to Help License and Protect its Intellectual Property Portfolio," Business Wire, Feb. 1, 2002)."

1. NeoMedia Patents Form Critical Link for RF-ID
http://www.neom.com/corporate/press/2003/20030916.jsp
2. NeoMedia, Symbol Form Strategic Relationship
http://www.neom.com/corporate/press/2001/20010511.jsp
1. NeoMedia Patents Form Critical Link for RF-ID
FT. MYERS, FL, Sep. 16, 2003 -- NeoMedia Technologies, Inc. (OTC BB: NEOM), a leader in innovative technologies which make information easier to access, said today that its next patented auto-link to Internet content would be for the rapidly-growing field of radio frequency identification (RF-ID).
RF-ID employs "tags," electronic chips which hold information similar to information held by UPC/EAN bar codes, but can also track specific parts, pieces or items from manufacturer to user, through the supply chain. RF-ID tags communicate automatically, without human intervention, with scanners, readers and computers.
Speaking from Frontline's International Supply Chain Week and the Electronic Product Code Executive Symposium in Chicago, NeoMedia Chairman Chas Fritz said, "as the MIT Auto-ID Lab and other leaders set RF-ID standards, our patented PaperClick™ technology and architecture will be compatible with how individual products are identified using RF-ID."
Direct Link the Internet
Pioneered and patented by NeoMedia, PaperClick will communicate with RF-ID tags, similarly to how it reads UPC/EAN and other bar codes, and then provide an automatic link to specific content on the Internet. It employs a standard browser, optional client software, and a network of online service and application servers. "NeoMedia's robust, patented technology connects physical items carrying RF-ID tags or bar codes simultaneously and directly to supply chain components across the Internet," Fritz said. "As the Auto ID and many other industries worldwide embrace the many advancements in RF-ID, NeoMedia is in the enviable position of being ahead of the curve, ready and able to license our technology."
Fritz said he was "excited about how RF-ID and the PaperClick technology platform have evolved together, greatly enhancing the power, promise and profit potential of our IP portfolio. Our technologies are in demand, and NeoMedia is pro-actively protecting and licensing patents as part of our overall business plan, ensuring our shareholders' investment in patents and other IP is protected and a viable generator of income," he said.
Last week, NeoMedia announced the first in a new series of applications of a patented wireless technology, which links camera phones directly to the Internet (see "New 'Killer Wireless App' for Nokia® Camera Cell Phones 'Turns Internationally-Popular Toys Into Internet-Enabled Business Tools'," Business Wire, Sept. 8.). Fritz said "cell phones, too, will be enabled for RF-ID in the future, with NeoMedia providing technology."

2. NeoMedia, Symbol Form Strategic Relationship
Symbol Obtains Global Rights to Offer Licenses for NeoMedia's Intellectual Property Holtsville, New York and Fort Myers, Florida - May 11, 2001 Symbol Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: SBL) and NeoMedia Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: NEOM), announced today that they have SIGNED A WORLDWIDE AGREEMENT which gives Symbol the right to grant licenses to itself and third parties under NeoMedia's intellectual property for a fixed fee per device.
Under the terms of the agreement, Symbol will not pay NeoMedia any up-front royalties, and NeoMedia can offer its products to Symbol's sales force and channel partners.
Charles W. Fritz, NeoMedia's chairman, president and CEO, said "now, for example, if a Symbol customer wants to create an e-commerce opportunity, such as an online catalog with bar codes that would utilize NeoMedia's intellectual property, Symbol can provide the customer with the devices they need, as well as the NeoMedia licenses for an additional fee."
Fritz called the agreement "a teaming of industry leaders, opening the way for rapid and significant advances in the growing global marketplace for Web-enabled devices."
Fritz also said that while compensation is per-unit, "we are excited about working in a tandem with Symbol, especially given the overall projections of industry and financial analysts for growth in this segment."
Ron Goldman, Symbol's senior vice president, Mobile Computing, said "Symbol now has the ability to offer our customers access to NeoMedia's intellectual property, technology and services. We see this as empowering the development of exciting, new Web-enabled devices and applications, and as an important step in developing scanning applications for businesses and consumers via the Internet."
Third IP License for NeoMedia
NeoMedia's Fritz said that today's announcement was in keeping with a corporate strategy announced last summer (see "NeoMedia Board Decides to License Intellectual Property Suite," BusinessWire, August 17, 2000), and its third major IP license (see "NeoMedia Signs $100+ Million Patent Licensing Contract With Digital:Convergence," BusinessWire, October 19, 2000, and "NeoMedia Technologies Announces Availability of the A.T. Cross NetPen," BusinessWire, March 15, 2000). He said the Cross NetPen, a complimentary mass market peripheral for the company's PaperClick™ products and services, incorporates a bar code scanning and storage device from Symbol.
Fritz called the global market for Web-enabled devices "one of the first technology-driven opportunities of the 21st century. NeoMedia is excited about pioneering this market with Symbol, and about industry forecasts which call for sales of scanner-equipped Web-enabled cell phones to reach at least 100 million unit per year by 2003. NeoMedia sees today's agreement with Symbol as a vital and necessary stepping stone to fulfilling the promise of these forecasts," he said.
"Scanning technology can greatly increase the use of cell phones to navigate the Web," Fritz said. "Entering keystrokes is slow, cumbersome, and fraught with errors, especially as phones and keypads get smaller. We believe the Symbol-NeoMedia agreement can help bring mouse-like utility and simplicity to millions of cell phones, providing easy and accurate mobile access to the Internet."

Wal-Mart Launches RFID
Fri Apr 30, 3:00 PM ET Add Business - NewsFactor to My Yahoo!
Jay Wrolstad, www.newsfactor.com
Wal-Mart (NYSE: WMT - news) today starts a limited rollout of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology in its vast retail network, ushering in a new era in supply-chain management that promises to improve the way businesses track and deliver their goods.
The world's leading retailer, along with eight product manufacturers, is testing electronic product codes at seven Supercenter stores and a regional distribution center in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
RFID readers at the loading dock doors will confirm that a particular shipment is now in the store's back room. Individual products will then be stocked as needed.
Supply Chain Visibility
While the trial run is focused on pallets and cases, 21 products will be tagged at the item level as well, Wal-Mart spokesperson Gus Whitcomb told NewsFactor, primarily consumer electronics such as TVs and printers. Hewlett-Packard is delivering photo printers and scanners with RFID tags.
Whitcomb would not reveal the companies providing RFID technology to Wal-Mart, but analysts said they likely include SYMBOL TECHNOLOGIES and Siemens, among others.
"The key benefit for us is increasing the availability of merchandise for our customers," Whitcomb said. "RFID provides greater visibility throughout the supply chain." An electric product code, unlike a bar code, lets the company quickly identify a specific box in that chain, improving product inventory tracking from supplier, to distribution center, to store.
Deadline for Suppliers
Wal-Mart has set a January 2005 deadline for its top 100 suppliers to use RFID tags on cases and pallets headed for Wal-Mart outlets in the Dallas/Fort Worth region. Whitcomb said the company is on pace to use the technology at 150 stores by the end of the year.
Currently, the eight manufacturers involved in the trial are Gillette, HP, Johnson & Johnson, Kimberly-Clark, Kraft Foods, Nestle Purina PetCare, Procter & Gamble and Unilever.
Joining Wal-Mart in the pursuit of RFID are such retailers as Target and Albertson's in the U.S., as well as Tesco and Metro in Europe. The technology is still in the nascent stage, but IDC projects that RFID spending for the U.S. retail supply chain will rise to US$1.3 billion in 2008 from $91.5 million in 2003.
Wal-Mart Takes Initiative
"When the 800-pound gorilla of retailing adopts this, it will certainly drive RFID into the extended supply chain," Yankee Group senior analyst Mike Donminy told NewsFactor. His organization reports that RFID spending, including readers, tags and services, will reach $4 billion by 2008.
"That's based on the early rollouts by Wal-Mart and Target and, further down the road, businesses like Best Buy, Lowe's and Home Depot that must be looking at this technology," Dominy said. Automakers, as well, are expected to adopt RFID to handle parts control.
While the RFID marketplace currently comprises a number of small players, firms such as Accenture, Sun and SAP are pushing into the space by delivering systems for specific markets.
Hardware purchases will dominate RFID spending in the next four years, primarily among manufacturers and their distribution partners, who will bear the burden of purchasing RFID tags on top of the necessary infrastructure and systems integration.
Dominy contends that concerns over the cost of deploying RFID, including the price of the tags themselves, are misplaced. "The issue is not the cost of the technology, it's eliminating all of the costly waste in the supply chain," he said.

Mobile internet usage to surge
http://www.cellular-news.com/story/11083.shtml
The number of global wireless Internet users will grow to nearly 600 million by 2008 according to a new report from Probe Group. The total number of wireless Internet users continues to grow as mobile carriers expand the number of services offered.
"As handsets become more affordable," states Alan Mosher, Probe Group Research Director, "carriers will become more aggressive in their marketing, including service pricing."
2003 saw several developments in the mobile operating system (OS) market. "Nokia announced several handsets running the Symbian OS, and Samsung joined the Symbian Alliance," Mosher continued. "Microsoft and Motorola introduced a Smartphone handset, while Handspring, failing in its attempt to offer only communications devices rather than PDAs, was acquired by Palm." Due to a larger number of handsets using its product, at the end of 2003, Symbian lead the mobile OS market. "We expect steady growth in the wireless Internet market, rather than dramatic bursts of activity," concluded Mosher.

Global mobile phone market explodes in first quarter: study
PARIS
http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/20040429/bs_afp/france_telecoms_sector_040429071320
The global market for mobile telephones exploded in the first quarter of 2004, with sales up by an annual 40 percent to 153 million units according to a study published by Strategy Analytics.
In general, "the global handset market experiended strong first quarter growth due to continuing strong device replacement/upgrade dynamics in the North American, Western European and Korean markets," the study noted.
Subscriber growth in Asia, the Pacific, Central and Latin American and Eastern Europe also contributed to the surge.
"Strategy Analytics expects sales growth to continue globally through 2004 at expected levels, and at this time maintains its original guidance of 586 million units," the group said.
Wal-Mart making first use of smart label technology
By Chuck Bartles, Associated Press
Wal-Mart Stores and a number of its suppliers are using a Dallas distribution center as the starting point for a technology that's targeted to one day replace the bar code.
The radio frequency information (RFID) tags provide automatic tracking of pallets and cases of goods. Starting Friday, eight suppliers are to participate, using 21 products to be tracked. Wal-Mart said Thursday that it will have more than 100 suppliers using the tags by January.

HP To Ship First RFID-Ready Goods Saturday
Wed Apr 28, 6:00 PM ET Add Technology - TechWeb to My Yahoo!
Hewlett-Packard will ship cases and pallets of ink-jet printers and cartridges to Wal-Mart Stores Inc. with radio-frequency identification tags attached to them beginning Saturday.
Lucien Repellin, HP's manufacturing-industries RFID-services lead, says HP initially will ship the RFID-tagged cases and pallets to Wal-Mart's Texas distribution center, the mega-retailer's first RFID-ready center. By year's end, HP expects to stick tags on 80% to 85% of its products bound for retailers.
Wal-Mart has asked its top suppliers to have tags on cases and pallets by Jan. 1 so it can more efficiently track goods coming into its distribution centers and stores. RFID tags can transmit a code--called an electronic product code, or EPC--that contains information about the product, providing a more-automated means of capturing supply-chain data. Retailers Albertsons and Target and the Department of Defense (news - web sites) also have asked suppliers to adopt RFID for goods shipped to them.
HP isn't a newcomer to RFID, having spent at least three years experimenting with it in the supply chain. Based on that experience, Repellin offers some lessons for others adopting the technology:
Data management is a challenge. HP uses RFID in two U.S. sites and one in Brazil, and together they generate 1 to 5 terabytes of data every day. Repellin says HP doesn't plan to archive all that data, but instead will collect and react only to the exceptions--data that suggests there's an error in what's being shipped. But Repellin says a slap-and-ship approach (just putting tags on to satisfy a retailer) is a pure expense. Companies should capture and use the data themselves.
Tag prices vary. HP is paying about 30 cents a tag, though it has seen prices from 15 to 50 cents, depending on the radio frequency used.
Accurate reading is difficult. HP has had to change how it puts pallets together to get faster and more-accurate read rates. Though it's not yet shipping item-level tags, HP has experimented with them. Readings on ink-jet cartridges were often inaccurate because a cartridge's liquid metal interfered. It solved that by putting an insulating material between the cartridge and the tag.
Yet RFID can deliver accurate results. Repellin says HP is getting 100% accurate read rates on case and pallet shipments, while its bar-code system delivers 92% to 97% accuracy.

Sounds like you've got some serious money in NEOM! Your not alone my friend. Might I make a suggestion: Always keep money on the side to avg. down and sell a few for leverage money when pps is @ premium levels. A smart long makes a strong long.
FYI: Just bought more in the low .08's.
P.S. I think we will be moving soon. (Waiting for the Virgin Settlement)
Nice find Jeff... eom
Reminder:
"The UK will be the lead market closely followed by Italy, Germany, France and Spain."
Although many of us were a bit disappointed with the "Official Luanch" in Europe we now know that Italy, Germany, France and Spain is right around the corner. Could explain NEOM's wording.
