He ranked very high in innings pitched when Th Twins wanted the Yankees to trade away their whole farm system to get him. Cashman took a beating for not pulling the deal even though had he done the deal, We would have not had anyone else to pitch. Now Cashman could have his chest sticking out for not making the deal.
Thats a good response. ..lol
I agree, Jim Rice said one of the dumbest things anyone can say. He's a idiot if he really believes it.
It is fun to poke fun of Boston but in reality things are much closer than they appear. I would love to see us sweep but I am just hoping we win atleast 1 game here to hold a decent lead yet. If we were to get swept it could cause a downward spiral. It is important that we take 2 of 3
Yanks head to Boston with the chance to close door on AL East

Donald Fehr can't tell the truth
More than 100 major leaguers tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs in 2003 — the results were supposed to be anonymous and are now under court seal.
"Precisely for that reason, the Players Association will not, indeed cannot, comment on whether the information is accurate," union leader Donald Fehr said.
Why no Red Sox in Mitchell Report, Cust asks
A's slugger, who was named in report, calls entire process ‘kind of a joke’
OAKLAND, Calif. - Jack Cust still wonders why his name appeared in the Mitchell Report. Now, the Oakland slugger has a more pressing question: How come some prominent Red Sox were missing?
"To me it was kind of a joke, the whole thing," Cust told The Associated Press last weekend.
Former Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell released his report in December 2007 and of the 85 players mentioned, none of them were Boston stars. Mitchell has been a director of the Red Sox since 2002.
Last month, The New York Times reported former Boston teammates Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz were among 104 players who allegedly tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs in 2003, according to a list compiled by the federal government.
"With all the other stuff going on, with a lot of the guys coming out recently — big-name guys — to me it's kind of funny they spent all that money on the Mitchell Report and a bunch of hearsay and the guy who made all the money off it happened to work for the Red Sox," Cust told the AP.
"Were there any Red Sox on the report? To me, that's kind of a joke. How does that happen? It's coming out now with guys on that team. The guy worked for the Red Sox — they spent all kinds of millions of dollars — and then no one there had their name brought up," he said.
The 409-page report was compiled after 20 months of investigation and interviews by Mitchell and his staff. Mitchell was hired by commissioner Bud Selig.
Cust said he has never had a positive test that would put him on a drug list. The Mitchell Report said Cust and Larry Bigbie played for Baltimore's Triple-A Ottawa team in 2003 and discussed steroids.
According to the report, "Cust eventually asked Bigbie if he had ever tried steroids. Bigbie acknowledged he had, and Cust said that he, too, had tried steroids. Cust told Bigbie that he had a source who could procure anything he wanted."
Charles Scheeler, an attorney who worked with Mitchell, defended the report in a statement Tuesday.
We stand by the statements regarding Mr. Cust in the report, and we remain highly confident in their accuracy," Scheeler said.
"Mr. Cust was invited to meet with us to respond to the evidence that we had received, and he declined to do so. In conducting the investigation and preparing the report, we followed the evidence wherever it led without any predisposition for or against any player or team," he said.
Yankees' Jeter passes Aparicio for SS hits record
SEATTLE (AP) - Yankees captain Derek Jeter passed Hall of Famer Luis Aparicio for most hits by a shortstop in New York's game against the Seattle Mariners on Sunday.
Jeter hit an RBI double in the third inning of the game against the Mariners. His 2,674th hit as a shortstop came two innings after he had singled against Seattle rookie starter Doug Fister leading off the game.
"I just try to be consistent year in and year out," said the 35-year-old Jeter, who claimed to be unaware of the record coming into the weekend. "If you are consistent, good things happen.
"It's kind of hard to believe, to say the least."
He had seven hits in his first 14 at-bats of the four-game series with the Mariners.
Jeter also has 13 hits as a designated hitter in his career.
His 2,687 hits as of the third inning Sunday were second in Yankees history, 34 behind Lou Gehrig.
"It's amazing what he has been able to accomplish - and he still has a lot of baseball left," said New York manager Joe Girardi, who was Jeter's teammate from the shortstop's rookie season with the Yankees in 1996 through '99.
Jeter is batting .323 in 112 games this season. This is his 14th consecutive season with at least 150 hits, passing Gehrig for the longest streak in Yankees' history. It is the longest such streak among active players.
"That's unbelievable," Girardi said. "That is really unbelievable, the things he's been able to accomplish as you see the names that he passes."
I agree that teams like the Yankees and and Mets that make the playoffs in a large market have it easier because they can spend more. However. The Steelers have won the Super Bowl 2 times in the last 4 years and the Pens have won the Stanley Cup this past year. They are both small market teams. So I don't buy the excuse that the Pirates use. Put a winner on the field and the fans will come.
lol I can believe it. I would laugh when they would see a car with Yankees on it and they would all watch like like a bunch of hawks ready to pounce on it..lol
I have to actually agree with how important that at bat was. Some may think it is silly to put the importance in 1 at bat in what was almost mid Aug. But had Boston lost that game it could have led to a complete downward spiral...
I was in Rhode Island all week and it was funny how someone with a Yankee logo on their car up there is refered to as a trouble maker.
The Scheduling is bad for sure. Boston was done with their west coast travel in what, June? And then you have the 2 game series here and there against teams more often than ever.
Yea, we do, however we have gotton a huge monkey off our backs in sweeping Boston and completly dominating them like we did. For our own mindset we needed to lay a good beating on them. Earlier in the season when it seemed we were starting to take off we played Boston again and they took it to us and and made us look bad. That messed with the teams mindset and made them question themselves how good they really are. We are beating the teams we should beat and for the most part competing with the teams we should be able to compete with.
Could you imagine if the Yankees had their act together earlier in the season? They keep winning at a rediculous rate. I will take it for sure but wow.
You might just get this game yet. I just saw Brian Bruney warming up during a tie game.
Johnny has not been himself this year. Swish gives me heart attacks to. As much as A-Rod does with pop-ups
lol em
I thought of Derf kicking something when that happened. actually, I thought of derf kicking something right after I kicked something..lol
I can see Jeters hit get by one man but get past the 3rd baseman but the SS to?
I was watching it online, Martinez had something like a 8 or 9 pitch at bat and they were 1 strike away from winning. Texas completly fell apart. He did what they brought him in to do, thats for sure.
Andy has nothing tonight and they should be killing the yankees. Your right, they have to learn to take their chances when it comes.
Everyone was notified that they had a positive test. He decided to wait to make a statement. He wanted to wait to see what info is out there. If he knew he didn't take steroids he wouldn't have waited to check with his agent and legal team before saying he didn't take it. I always stuck up for the guy until this.
Goooooooooo Rangers..lol
In Theo we trust
Despite having a head the size of a suitcase, Ortiz denies using steroids
He sure would..lol
08.05.2009 Having conquered Canada, Yanks welcome David Ortiz* and the Red Sox*
Fresh off a two-game sweep of the Blue Jays, the Yankees will host 2nd-place Boston in a colossal series that could have major implications on who wins the AL East. Pitching for Boston in Game 1 will be a guy with a goatee...shocker.
Oh, David Ortiz is a fraud (even though he's now playing the victim card).
I was listening to that game on the radio while I was driving and the Rays announcers were saying why in the world are they not walking Longoria. Out of everyone on the Rays he could hurt you the worst. Next pitch ball game over.
08.04.2009 The hypocrisy of Curt Schilling
Curt Schilling on Jose Canseco:
"Jose Canseco admitted he cheated his entire career," Schilling said. "Everything he ever did should be wiped clean. I think his MVP should go back and should go to the runner-up." (Source)
Curt Schilling on Roger Clemens:
"So as a fan my thought is that Roger will find a way in short order to organize a legal team to guarantee a retraction of the allegations made, a public apology is made, and his name is completely cleared," Schilling wrote. "If he doesn't do that then there aren't many options as a fan for me other than to believe his career 192 wins and 3 Cy Youngs he won prior to 1997 were the end. From that point on the numbers were attained through using [performance-enhancing drugs]. Just like I stated about Jose [Canseco], if that is the case with Roger, the 4 Cy Youngs should go to the rightful winners and the numbers should go away if he cannot refute the accusations." (Source)
Curt Schilling on Rafael Palmeiro:
“The year he tested positive, nothing he did that year should count, which I think would take away 3,000 hits for him.” (Source)
Curt Schilling on Barry Bonds:
"If you get caught using steroids, you should have everything you've done in this game wiped out for any period of time that you used it," Schilling said. "A lot of players, I think, have said as much because it is cheating." (Source)
And now moving on to Ortiz and the Red Sox...
Curt Schilling on whether David Ortiz's accomplishments should be judged differently:
That’s for you to decide. It seems to be an area of immense debate, but I am not sure how this could/should/will be resolved. (Source)
Curt Schilling on whether Boston's accomplishments should be judged differently:
This makes me laugh. I have already seen the bandwagon fans start the *04 and *07 threads and remarks, people with teams who are far deeper into this than most other teams — as if this makes it all OK. Every team going back 10-15 years needs an * if you want to consider giving it to anyone.
07.30.2009 Whatever you do, don't put the blame on you
David Ortiz, April 3 2005:
Ortiz, who like many players would welcome stricter testing if it would clear the air, said again the other day he has never used steroids.
"I just work hard, man," said Ortiz, who said that as a kid in the Dominican he used to hate lifting weights but grew from 190 pounds when he signed to 230 pounds when he broke into the big leagues, and has added another 20 pounds of muscle since.
"If you look at my numbers from way back, you could tell I would put up the kinds of numbers I've put up lately. Each year I played with the Twins, I went from 18 home runs in 300 or so at-bats, to 20 home runs the following year, even though I wasn't playing every day. The following year I had more at-bats and hit 30 home runs, and the following year with 580 at-bats, I hit 41 home runs."
"That tells you something. It's not like I'm a guy, you look at him, you don't see power. I work my butt off, brother."
There is a very basic reason, Ortiz says, that he stays away from steroids.
"I'm one guy," he said, "who knows that if something might do something bad to my body, I'd be afraid to use it. Any kind of stuff. I don't want to die in 10 years. That's what it is.
"I feel bad for people getting into that stuff, because it's bad stuff. You may want to do well, but you need a little help, but you know what? The consequences are going to be tough."
It is funny, he was doing a interview when Manny got busted and you had so many players were talking and Damon said something to the affect that people shouldn't talk and condem other people because you never know. Maybe he said that with Ortiz in mind? I think he knew. Here was a guy who never really did anything and couldn't get out of his own way with the Twins and as soon as Ortiz gets to the Red Sox he becomes one of the best hitters in the game?
No, they were notified. I remember A-Rod took a beating over saying he never took steroids after knowing he tested positive in 2003 so Ortiz Knew also.
Yes he is. He should have just not said anything and left it at that.
I wonder if Peter Gammons went home early from ESPN today. He takes every chance he can to bring up A-Rod and bad about the Yankees..lol I have not seen him yet oddly..lol
Why guilty people should keep their big mouths shut.
This spring training, Ortiz said he was in favor of a season-long ban for anyone testing positive, rather than the 50-game punishment now in place.
"I think you clean up the game by the testing," Ortiz said in February. "I know that if I test positive by using any kind of substance, I know that I'm going to disrespect my family, the game, the fans and everybody, and I don't want to be facing that situation.
I think the testing program is working though. Sure it isn't 100% but thats 2 times Manny has been caught that means. Of course Ortiz lied to. Ortiz said he never took steroids and he gets tested all the time. I had a huge amount of respect for Ortiz.
That Mariners team was tough to beat to.
Seems Ortiz was taking the same stuff Manny was
2004 Red Sox
I was just reading that. I give the guy credit for saying it out in the open knowing that he will probably get suspended for it now.
Wow, thats gonna be some fancy new flat huh.
