Henk Hoogankamp-world food expert
Henk Hoogenkamp, Accomplished Author and Food Ingredient Scientist, Joins NutraCea as Executive Advisor on the Utilization of Stabilized Rice Bran in Food Ingredient Applications
PHOENIX, Nov. 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NutraCea (OTC: NTRZ - News), a world leader in stabilized rice bran (SRB) nutrient research and technology, announced today that Henk Hoogenkamp, a world renowned author, researcher and developer in the food ingredient and meat processing industries, has agreed to act as an Executive Advisor to NutraCea. In particular, Hoogenkamp will conduct and provide results of research and development in various applications to further explore the utilization of stabilized rice bran (SRB) in the human food chain.
NutraCea initially began working with Hoogenkamp in November of 2007. Since then, he has conducted extensive research on uses for rice bran, including NutraCea's SRB products, in human food ingredients. Hoogenkamp's work has been instrumental in the development of SRB applications for emulsified and course ground meats. "We are pleased and honored to have Henk join our NutraCea team as an Executive Advisor. We believe that his depth of knowledge, reputation and global network in the food ingredient industry are already proving to be instrumental in opening doors for possible increased sales of our SRB products worldwide. Recent trials and studies that Henk has directed and performed demonstrate the significant long-term potential for NutraCea's SRB product range in multiple food ingredient applications in markets around the world," said W. John Short, Chief Executive Officer of NutraCea.
Hoogenkamp commented, "I'm pleased to join NutraCea as an Executive Advisor to the senior management team to help develop the global potential of rice bran as a major addition to the human food ingredient supply chain. Our growing global population needs sustainable, functional and nutritious food ingredients and rice bran offers a tremendous opportunity to convert a by-product formerly used only for animal feed to a highly nutritious human food ingredient. Stabilized rice bran provides that opportunity, along with competitive pricing and clean green labeling. It's exciting to be on the cutting edge of what can be a life-enhancing ingredient for the human food industry."
Hoogenkamp has turned his attention to rice bran in recent years, recognizing that this extremely functional and nutritious ingredient can compensate for the high cost of soy protein, as well as improve organoleptical quality. He has written numerous articles to help broaden the awareness of the use of stabilized rice bran in food, beverage and processed meat applications as both a soy replacement and as a meat emulsifier. Hoogenkamp's latest book, Technology and Marketing Value of Rice Bran and Soy Protein in Meat, Food and Beverages, is scheduled to be released in January 2010 and explores the rapid changing world dynamics and environment in relation to affordable food availability. A series of comprehensive overview articles by Hoogenkamp on the application of rice bran in the meat industry will be published in peer reviewed journals in the next few months.
Together with Kody Newland, NutraCea's Senior Vice President of Sales, Hoogenkamp will be attending Food Ingredient Europe (FIE) 2009 which will be held in Frankfurt, Germany November 17th to 19th. They will be meeting with various broadline distributors, meat ingredient focused distributors, meat processors, manufacturers, and brokers.
About Henk Hoogenkamp
Over the last 20 years, Hoogenkamp, born and raised in the Netherlands, has been a proponent of transferring protein technology systems to the world's food processing companies. He has made significant contributions to the food and meat processing industries, including his pioneering work in the development of sport nutrition protein supplements and, in particular, his groundbreaking research for milk protein and soy protein. He was a former President of the world's leading dairy company, DMV Campina (now FrieslandCampina), and also served as the Senior Director of Strategic Technology for DuPont Protein Technologies (now Solae LLC).
Call to NTRZ/email to Sales VP
I called the online store this morning and talked to Jessica. I pretended to be a big potential customer of bulk SRB. From the time they get an order and ship a full container load takes two weeks. Because of heavy demand they are now 4 weeks behind. She says they got the seasonal orders caught up, but heavy demand is keeping them behind. I asked about that and she said mills are slow in the summer and some orders fall behind, but that extra demand is well past and taken care of and many orders still streaming in. So, it sounds like BK has not cause any problems yet and Q3/4 should look quite good year over year as far as revenue in the USA goes.
Also, RiSolubles canisters should be in next week. Check the site.
Next that leads me to emailing Kody. I wonder how NTRZ can get enough stage 1 with the company busy as is and behind in orders if Hadassah is a huge success and if Phoenix gets rolling. Stage 1 is needed to make stage two. With his permission I post his immediate response>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
You are right, I can’t respond to your email specif questions. You are asking for too much detail that is not public.
I’m in Frankfurt Germany for the Food Ingredient Europe Show. To keep expenses down, Henk and I will be working out of the DP&S (Dutch Protein Services) booth. DP&S is one of our EU distributors. They handle Benelux and Germen markets for us. We will also be seeing Kreglinger, Azelis, Berentz, Kerry-Dera who all handle the EU. In addition we’ll see existing distributors United Chemical – Indonesia , Mackessen and Leysam – Malaysia , Philippines , Thailand and China , ProFood – Hungary and FoodTech – Israel . As well as prospects from Russia , Korea and a few other countries. The show is three days long and we are booked from breakfast through dinner every day. It perfect timing so I can address our court supervised restructure (CSR) face to face. It gives me the chance to explain how the CSR is perfect for NutraCea.
In addition please point out that we have reduced expenses and staff to the point that I’m not only the Sr VP of Sales but I also have direct account responsibility for every distributor and direct account out side of the USA. Due to the financial situation I have not traveled since May. This is my first trip and we need to get the most we can for the $$$$$. I’ll be spending Thanksgiving in a hotel room. Henk and I have been training over the phone when in actuality we should have been in the meat labs working with the foods techs.
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
So, it sounds like Short has made Z a leaner meaner company and sales are increasing. We will find out soon enough. Kody did not answer my main question about where product would come from, but I speculate that they are switching over from RiBran made from stage one to to making it out of DFB. Or maybe stage one can be taken from the oil process. If Brad's blueprint from the Rodman last November is correct, the raw bran is stabilized before anything else is made.
Also note that it is too expensive to ship DFB from Brazil to the USA, yet Kody is over in Europe selling it today. Will Z have an oil plant in Europe?
So many questions, so few answers. I sure hope Short will address many of these questions at the CC.
3 medical studies due out soon
From the 10K>>>
In 2008 RS conducted a significant amount of research. The initial thrust of this work was the development of extracts from SRB that would be effective in fighting inflammation which leads to pain. A number of extracts have been tested with two identified as having significant effect based on in vitro tests. A combination of these was created to produce a third extract that exhibits a high level of Cox 1, Cox 2 and Lox 5 inhibition. This extract was used in a pharmacokinetic study to determine the speed of assimilation into the human body. Results indicated that the active compounds were rapidly assimilated with no evidence of toxic byproducts. Our next step is to conduct a human clinical trial. A number of active compounds were identified and modeled. RS has filed Patent applications for the extract along with each of the specific active compounds.
NutraCea has an on-going immune system response study for HIV patients at the Haddassah Medical University in Israel. This study was initiated due to mounting anecdotal evidence obtained from NutraCea’s humanitarian efforts in Africa that RiSolubles seems to boost energy levels in HIV infected individuals, also helping them gain weight and regain relatively normal lifestyles. We caution that no causal relationship has yet been proven and that RiSolubles does not reverse infection by HIV. The study, with a medically reviewed, statistically validated protocol, is intended to provide a definitive answer. Assuming no unexpected delays in the study, initial results are expected toward the end of 2009 or early 2010.
Late in 2007, the Cancer Biomarkers Group in the Department of Cancer Studies and Molecular Medicine, University of Leicester in Leicester, UK published a research paper evaluating the effect of NutraCea SRB in ApcMin mice (British Journal of Cancer (2007) 96, 248-254). The mice were genetically modified to serve as models for mammary, prostate and intestinal carcinogenesis. They reported that consumption of SRB (30% in the diet) reduced the numbers of intestinal adenomas in these mice by 51% compared to the same mice on a control diet. The results suggest that SRB might be further evaluated as a chemo-preventative intervention in humans. These results led to NutraCea filing a patent application on “Methods for Treatment of Intestinal Carcinogenesis with Rice Bran” on January 4, 2008 by assignee NutraCea. A new clinical trial utilizing NutraCea Fiber Complex has been initiated at the University of Leicester to further characterize the effectiveness of this rice bran derivative as a chemo-preventative intervention against intestinal cancer in humans. The study is scheduled for completion by late 2009.
mad--sell off assets is the plan
I hear Short would be happy not owning one building. What has been discussed on another message board the most is selling part of Brazil and the other is selling Phoenix and leasing it back. One of Brad Edson's downfalls, in my opinion, was trying to own everything. it costs too much. What will make us rich is the equipment, not the buildings the extruders sit in.
Mad
I can just say that this is a mild case of bankruptcy. It is more of a cash flow problem than bankruptcy. I can give three examples of others that shareholders never lost any shares and had huge gains in two of the cases after the filing BK

Mad--NTRZ got money from Wells Fargo.
If Wells Fargo thinks NTRZ will make it, I do too. My guess is that CEO Short has some deals coming as well as other money coming in. We should have a CC next week. And Book value is over .30. Heck, some biotech stocks losing their asses sell at 4 times book or higher.

PHOENIX, Nov. 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NutraCea (OTC: NTRZ - News), a world leader in stabilized rice bran (SRB) nutrient research and technology, announced today that the Company has filed a voluntary petition for protection under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Arizona. None of the Company's subsidiaries, including its Brazilian rice bran oil operation, Irgovel, were included in the bankruptcy filing.
The Company plans to use the protection provided by the courts under Chapter 11 to restructure its operations, reduce overhead and sell non-core assets, in line with the previously announced strategy of focusing on its core businesses of stabilized rice bran, rice bran oil, nutraceuticals and baby cereal.
"The protection provided by the Chapter 11 process will allow NutraCea to gain immediate liquidity through the $6,750,000 Debtor-in-Possession (DIP) financing facility provided by Wells Fargo Bank, N. A. and to resume normal day-to-day operations, while giving us the opportunity to restructure, strengthen our business performance and create long-term value for our stakeholders," said W. John Short, Chief Executive Officer. Short added, "We will work hard to emerge from this process as quickly as possible with a streamlined cost structure that should allow us to operate as a healthier, more competitive and profitable company. We deeply appreciate the dedication and efforts of our employees, who have worked exceedingly hard during this challenging period. We look forward to the continued support of our customers, vendors and business partners as we reposition NutraCea for future growth and profitability."
In conjunction with its filing, the Company applied for Bankruptcy Court approval for a DIP financing facility provided by Wells Fargo Bank, N. A. The DIP facility provides lines of credit totaling $6,750,000 which, combined with cash flow from operations, will permit payment of employee wages and benefits and allow the Company to resume normal day-to-day operations, including payment of post-petition obligations to vendors and professional service providers, all in the normal course of business.
The total funds that NutraCea will be able to access under the DIP financing facility will be determined using a borrowing base formula and will be reduced by the outstanding balance owing under NutraCea's old credit facility with Wells Fargo Bank, N.A. NutraCea currently owes approximately $3,575,000 to Wells Fargo Bank, N.A. under the old credit facility. The Company's obligations under the DIP financing facility will be secured by its facilities in Phoenix, Arizona, Dillon, Montana and Mermentau, Louisiana and all of its personal property assets other than certain intellectual property assets.
In addition to seeking Bankruptcy Court approval of the DIP financing, NutraCea has filed several customary first day motions seeking authority to take actions in furtherance of its reorganization.
NutraCea has retained Forrester, Worth & Green PLLC as its bankruptcy counsel.
The Company plans to post regular updates on its website regarding the Chapter 11 process in order to keep employees, customers, vendors, professional service providers, shareholders, other stakeholders and the general public apprised of its progress as it restructures under court supervision. This information will be available starting today by visiting the Company's website and clicking the button titled Restructuring Information.

Interesting China rice bran oil story.
A representative of Wilmar International talked with Reuters about expansion of rice bran oil in China, but did not mention where or when. So, I feel with the suspicious lack of details that Wilmar, who is a JV partner in many Asian countries with ADM and Russia, Wilmar/ADM could be a strategic partner for NTRZ.

Let's hope. Brad was talking about 3 plants in China. It will probably be only one for starters, but it would be fun if they went with all three. Many rumors about that a China deal will be announced by years end, but many NTRZ rumors have been dead wrong, so don't buy on this post, buy on the news.
Brick--If I was not in, I would not buy on the open. I look for a bargain later in the day. Nobody is going to buy at the gun, only sellers.
NTRZ is not a normal Chapter 11 case.
No bond holders and a limited amount of debt. Chapter 11 moves the class action escrow to the back of the pack and can use any new money to really get the company rolling, such as the Phoenix plant.
List:
4M to Wells Fargo
5M for Phoenix plant.
3M for the list but in the last filing they had a payment agreement with FRC already in place but we will still add the 3M in anyway.
3M to reestablish both LA facility, a guess, and from memory the figure is really as little as 300K for both.
2-3 million escrow for the class action lawsuit.
If NTRZ did not lose their butt in Q1,2,3 09 we have book value to more than cover the above. This is not the end, but maybe a help.
VRMLQ share holders who sold at .08 on March 31, 2009 got burned. The stock is now $17.73

CHINA TO SEE SLIGHTLY TIGHT GRAIN SUPPLY IN 2010: OFFICIAL
BEIJING Nov 2
China is hard to reverse its tight supply of grain in 2010 when rice and corn will be short supplied but wheat market can keep balanced, said a State Council official at the Forum for China 2010 Economy Outlook over the weekend.
The country's rice consumption maintains at about 180 million tons per year. However, its annual rice output has stood lower than that of 10 years ago and the world rice trading volume hasn't exceeded 25 million tons in the past 20 years.
Han Jun, director of Rural Research Department under the State Council, pointed out China will continue to ensure steady growth of grain production next year and guard against sharp ups and downs of grain prices.
China has reaped bumper harvest for six years running. By end-March of this year, the state-owned enterprises had held grain stocks of 255.4 million tons, up 50 million tons year on year. However, now enterprises, traders and farmers fail to stockpile much grain and most of grain is in the state depot, Han said.
Meanwhile, Chinese government will give policy support to stabilize prices of key farm products such as cotton, pig, vegetable oils and sugar in 2010, Han added.

Govt to import 30,000 tonnes of rice by Dec
New Delhi October 30, 2009
The government will import 30,000 tonnes of rice to augment domestic availability of the food grain, amid fears of slump in output due to drought and floods in different parts of the country.
It has already asked three state-owned trading firms, MMTC, SEC and PEC to import 10,000 tonnes of rice each and offload in the market.
Subsequently, MMTC, SEC and PEC Friday floated tenders to import the food grain by December.
"The tender to import rice is under the government instruction," MMTC Chairman and Managing Director Sanjiv Batra told PTI.
An official of STC also confirmed the development and said the shipments are likely to land in the country during November-December.
The government, however, has not given any assurance about subsidy on rice imports, an official of PEC said.
As of now the three state-owned trading forms have been advised to import only 10,000 tonnes each, the official added.
India's rice production is estimated to fall by up to 16 million tonnes this year due to the twin impact of drought and floods in most of the rice sowing areas of the country.

UN World Food Programme buys 30,000 tons of grain for Kenya
The UN World Food Programme has bought 30,000 tons of maize and corn-soya blend from South Africa for drought-stricken Kenya this year, Richard Lee, the UN World Food Programme spokesman for southern Africa, told Reuters. Kenya's government liberalised maize imports and sales in Feb, to make grain more accessible and to ease prices. South Africa has exported over half its total exports since the start of the May marketing season, to Kenya: 538,436 tons of maize.

Whole Grain Stamp meets institute's criteria
BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS, U.S. — The Whole Grain Stamp exemplifies one of eight key recommendations in a report recently released by the Institute of Medicine (IOM), the Whole Grains Council said on Oct. 28.
The IOM report says that products with 8 grams or more of whole grain content per serving should be considered legitimate whole grain products — or "whole grain-rich products," a new and useful definition used in the report, the council said. The 8 gram level is the same minimum amount of whole grain used by the Whole Grain Stamp program since January 2005, when the Stamp was launched as a consumer-friendly tool to help fulfill the just-released recommendations of the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, the council said.
The standard is followed by 248 manufacturers, the council said. The Whole Grains Council said it reviewed almost 3,100 products in 14 countries and certified them to use the Whole Grain Stamp. The logo will appear more than a billion times this year on grocers' shelves, the council said. Use of the Whole Grain Stamp is also expected to take off for school foodservice products because of the IOM report, according to the council.
"At a time when front of pack labeling is under close scrutiny, it's clear that the Whole Grains Council chose a responsible, scientifically-grounded path with the Whole Grain Stamp," said Cynthia Harriman, Director of Food and Nutrition Strategies for the non-profit Whole Grains Council and for Oldways, its parent organization.
The IOM, the health arm of the National Academies of Science, wrote the new report at the request of U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) officials responsible for the National School Lunch Program. USDA will use the recommendations in the report to update school lunch requirements to include healthier choices. The IOM report specifies that at least half the grains served in schools should be "whole grain-rich" — 8 grams or more of whole grain per serving — and that manufacturers should clearly label grams of whole grain content now, rather than wait for regulatory action, the council said.

Rosco--accumulation today.
Maybe there is hope. Besides what I post below, there was a 30,000 share trade at the ask pre-market and a 100,000 share trade right after the open. Neither show up on my level 2. I estimate that 492,000 shares were trades at the ask today and 152,000 at the bid.
It might be a fund buying, but I'd rather it be on a leak of good news pending. Either way at .12, it is not a lot of money, just sneaky under the radar buying by somebody.
I admit I am an eternal optimist.

My dud--NTRZ
I have been honking the horn on this for 3 and 1/2 years and losing by butt, however things seem about to break. The stock broke the 30 day MA yesterday and they put out a partial refiling. To get off pink slips they need Q4 08 and Q1,2 )( which is expected this week. There is a nasty headline today about a WFC default, but it was in the refy yesterday. I feel that many things will fall together in the next couple of weeks. The VP of sales has been calling many posters, one I know personally and another who posted the info on the Yahoo board. From that posted phone call and info I found in the 2008 10_k filed yesterday, here are potential announcements>>>
1. Q4, Q1 and Q 2 soon.
2. Off pinks
3. Brazil JV deal announced which will help raise needed cash
4. Other short term cash raised besides money from Brazil partnership
5. Brazil could include wheat stabilization deal that is a bran new stabilization product and more potential than rice.
6. The idle Phoenix to begin production
7. China rice bran oil plant announced maybe before years end.
8. New Herbal Science JV product announced and maybe pharma deal.
9. Q3 and conference call in mid November.
If NTRZ announces 6 of the 9 points above my guess is a $1.00 stock. If all are announced we got a $2.00 stock.
Do your own DD, but all of the above is in the 10-K or the phone call Yahoo posts. The chart looks good as far as risk reward is concerned IMO.

SRB, oil for XMAS, hostess gifts, company parties
Rice bran products can make excellent Xmas gifts, hostess gifts, company party gifts and more. And what a way to give NTRZ company a little revenue and word of mouth advertising. And the gift of health is priceless. A couple of years ago Z only had canisters of SRB products, but now the oil adds a new dimension. I will be ordering at least 10 bottles for gifts and maybe more.

Patty's NanaCea has some great products as well. Patty's products are much more diversified. I am currently on her 24/7 Meal Replacement Vanilla as part of her Case History Program, best tasting SRB yet, IMO. Her skin creams look like a good female gift.

Innovation, Investment,Partnership--ADM CEO
This article from WorldGrain.com fits ADM doing business with NTRZ>>>
ADM's Woertz shares views on future of agriculture
DECATUR, ILLINOIS, U.S. — Innovation, investment and partnership will allow agriculture to sustainably serve the world’s growing needs for food and energy.
This is the central message that Patricia Woertz, chairman, chief executive officer and president of Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM), shared with leaders in academia, agriculture and the food industry on Oct. 14 during her remarks at the opening session of the 2009 World Food Prize Borlaug Dialogue in Des Moines, Iowa, U.S.
"World food demand will as much as double by mid-century, and by the same time, energy from traditional sources will be insufficient to meet global demand," Woertz said. "The world is looking to agriculture to serve these needs — against a backdrop of constrained natural resources and rowing environmental challenges."
Efforts to meet the agricultural challenges of this century will begin with innovation to continue the advances in seed technology and in farming practices that have dramatically increased the productivity of global farmlands, she said.
ADM conducted a survey of all land currently used for production, taking into account growing conditions.
"We asked: what if, last year, all 15 of the top producing nations or regions had been able to achieve somewhere between 70 and 80% of the best yields on record? What if we could get that level of productivity out of currently farmed land?" Woertz said. "Without bringing a single additional acre of land into production, there would be an increase of up to 50% in global maize production; growth of up to 52% in world wheat production; and an increase of as much as 41% in rapeseed production."
Woertz said those yields alone would dramatically enhance the availability of key crops for food, feed, fiber and fuel uses.
"And when you combine them with new efficiencies in crop processing, feed utilization and biofuel production, the prospects for achieving benefits that would extend to all humankind are even more pronounced," Woertz said. "Innovation on the farm – and improved yields alone – won’t be sufficient to meet our future global demands. They must be accompanied by increased investment."
The United Nations FAO has estimated that 10% of the world’s grain production — or about 220 million tonnes — is lost to mishandling and post-harvest operations. The FAO also estimated that the world wasted 48 million tonnes of rice in 2008 — enough to feed 184 million people, or approximately one-fifth of those who are undernourished. Woertz said protecting harvested crops, through investment in research and infrastructure, is critical to reaching those most in need.
The International Food Policy Research Institute noted last year that reducing the number of people worldwide living in poverty by 50% would require an annual investment of between $14 and $28 billion in agricultural research and infrastructure — specifically, in irrigation and rural roads.
"While investment in basic infrastructure is the responsibility of government, we in the private sector can play an important role as well by making infrastructure investments that help build global markets and create economic opportunity," said Woertz, noting that ADM is investing to expand its global sourcing, storage, transportation and processing capabilities.
ADM said it is also partnering with companies and organizations to develop new methods to increase production and help protect the environment. The company said it has partnered with organizations in Africa, Asia and South America to help farmers implement environmentally and socially responsible growing practices and improve yields.
"As we pursue the advances that will help ensure agriculture can meet the world’s growing need for food, fiber and energy in a sustainable way, we will need to address the concerns that can arise with visions as ambitious as these," she said. "We will need to listen to many diverse stakeholders as we work to implement workable ideas and solutions. And we will need to continue to respond when temporary natural, political or market disruptions pose threats to the wellbeing of individuals."

Compare NPHC to NTRZ
NPHC is a developmental company than just put out a new prescription analgesic for chronic pain. The company had basically no revenues before hand. Sales results are not in yet since the product is brand new.
NTRZ MAY announce a wheat deal in the near future. We all saw the new patents about wheat stabilization xybrfuture posted.
Now look a a drug to help chronic pain introduced in a world filled with competitors and compare that to the 549,433,727 METRIC TONS of wheat that could someday be stabilized and by NTRZ alone at this time. NO CONTEST--NTRZ HAS MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MORE POTENTIAL.
By the way, NPHC just went from .04 to .93 in six weeks and sits at .70 today.. If NTRZ compares from .04 to .70 we would go to to $2.81 in six weeks after the wheat PR.
Do I think that will happen--NO WAY. But I do look for a HUMONGOUS RISE in share price when the trend follower institutions get on board. Add China oil to the mix and $2.81 is a no brainer.

New link added showing that NTRZ's rice bran oil is made from stabilized rice bran. The should make the oil a little more valuable. The big thing is that stabilization adds about $200+ per ton to the defatted bran which is 80% of the process. With Brazil to be expanded to 210,000 tons, hopefully soon, that will add $42,000,000 to the bottom line compared to regular oil plants that size.

USDA now calls Organic "Mainstream"

Organic food has entered the mainstream with strong growth in all sectors over the past decade, including packaged and prepared foods and beverages, according to the US Department of Agriculture (USDA).
American producers are struggling to meet robust demand for organic foods despite dire predictions for the organic sector during the economic downturn. Some market researchers claim that consumers have increasingly turned to less expensive options that still tap into their ethical concerns, such as local, Fairtrade and free range. But, in this latest review, the USDA said that the organic market has proved resilient, with “double-digit growth for well over a decade”, and that organic consumers have become “increasingly mainstream”.
The USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service said: “Organic products have shifted from being a lifestyle choice for a small share of consumers to being consumed at least occasionally by a majority of Americans.”
Premium pricing
And while concerns have been raised that consumers may not be prepared to pay steep premiums for organic foods, Economic Research Service (ERS) data has shown that consumers are buying organic foods at significantly higher prices than conventional. The ERS said that the 2006 price for a half-gallon container of milk ranged from 60 percent above non-organic milk for private label organic milk, to 109 percent above non-organic for branded organic milk.
The USDA said that “general themes have emerged” regarding the habits and demographics of organic consumers, although studies have come up with varied results, depending on sample size, geographic location of respondents, and the type of survey.

“Consumers prefer organically produced food because of their concerns regarding health, the environment, and animal welfare, and are willing to pay the price premiums established in the marketplace,” the department said.
Supply squeeze
Part of the reason for these premiums is that as the organic sector has grown, ingredient supply has been squeezed. A USDA report released in June this year said that nearly half of US organic handlers find ingredients in short supply and, in 2004, 13 percent failed to meet market demand for at least one of their products.
Although certified organic acreage has doubled in the US since 1997, organic food sales have quintupled over the same period, from $3.6bn to $21.1bn last year.
Fruit and vegetables still represent the biggest sub-sector of organic food sales at 37 percent, followed by dairy at 16 percent, and beverages and packaged foods at 13 percent each. Areas of fastest growth include the organic beverage sector, which grew by 40 percent in 2008, and organic breads and grains, which achieved 35 percent growth over the year.
Organic food accounted for more than three percent of US food sales last year. Additionally, according to the Organic Trade Association, organic food sales grew at a much faster rate in 2008 than general US food sales, which grew by 4.9 percent during the year – or about a third as much as organics.

By the way, NTRZ does have some 100% Organic rice bran, but the jest of the article is more that natural foods are still in a uptrend.
"Beauty Food" sales triple.

Beauty foods grow threefold, says Mintel
By Lorraine Heller, 11-Sep-2009

Global food and drink products claiming to enhance beauty increased threefold over the past three years indicating a market ready to take off, said Mintel.
According to the market analyst, the growth in ‘beauty foods’ by far exceeds that of regular food and drink products. Between 2005 and 2008, introductions of beauty-enhancing products increased 306 percent, compared to the 35 percent increase registered for the overall food and drink industry.
“This data speaks to the impact 'beauty foods' are having on the market. In addition, already in 2009, nearly 300 food and drink product launches with a 'beauty enhancing' claim have been launched, surpassing the total number launched in all of 2008,” said the analyst.
Mintel also noted that women in the US between the ages of 18 and 25 are interested in trying beauty functional beverages.
“These numbers really point to an opportunity within this new segment in the beauty industry,"said Taya Tomasello, senior beauty analyst at Mintel.
Skin, hair and nails
Beauty foods generally address three areas: Skin, hair and nails. Benefits include: (for skin) repair and prevention; sun protection; firmness; pigmentation; whitening; and slimming; (for hair) retention and growth; restoration; nourishment; and volumizing; (for nails) strengthening.
This increased consumer interest in the concept of beauty from within is contributing to the category becoming more clearly defined as an independent marketing platform for certain ingredients and products.
According to market research company Kline Group, the category was worth around $1.5bn in 2007, and expected to grow to $2.5bn by 2012. Overall, the global market for nutricosmetics grew over 10 percent in 2007.
Inspiration from Japan
Kline estimates the US holds only 3 percent of the global nutricosmetics – or beauty from within – market. Europe and Japan currently take the lead, accounting for 55 and 41 percent of sales respectively.
Looking to the Japanese market for inspiration, new product introductions highlighted by Mintel fruit snacks consisting of dried mangoes, pineapples, papaya and cranberries coated with collagen.
Launched by Japan-based Kracie Foods, the product “targets women in their 20s to 40s who are conscious of their skin health,” said Mintel.
Another new beauty product launched in Australia is Tea Tonic's Complexon Tea that claims to help "revitalize each cell of the body within, and is a positive step towards achieving beautiful luminous skin and a fabulous complexion."
Next week, Mintel will be showcasing what it calls “the latest innovative beauty products” at the cosmetics show HBA Expo in New York.

jasontrader--I trade Schwab info.
I have never posted here, but I get many good tips here from my lurking--GREAT BOARD CHARTINATOR!!!!!
Schwab has an unpublished rate for active traders of $6.95 per trade, but you must ask them about it. I have had no problems in the 15 years I have used them.
But, I recently opened an account at Wells Fargo and put over $25,000 into it. I now get 100 free trades per year. The problems are that you must put in at least $25,000(I think). And second, stocks that are under $1.00 are not free and they soak you for them, like $19.95-$29.95 per trade. So, I use Schwab for under $1.00 stocks and I buy many of them too, about 1/2 of my trading. With Wells Fargo after you use up the 100 free trades you get the rest of $5.95. My investment banker at Wells told me that WFC went that route to compete with Bank America, so, they might have a plan for you too.
Thanks again for this great board.
