Four Dead in Colo. Wildfires Crash

PARACHUTE, Colo. (AP) - A van carrying fire personnel to a wildfire southwest of Denver crashed Friday night, killing four passengers, a state trooper said.
Colorado State Patrol spokesman Don Moseman said the van was from La Grande, Ore., and was carrying 11 people. It was part of a convoy of eight vehicles traveling along Interstate 70 en route near Parachute to the 137,000-acre blaze.
"We had a lot of distraught people out there," Moseman said. "Of course in a convoy, some of their group saw it happen. It was very rough for them."
The cause of the accident was under investigation but Moseman said it appeared the driver was momentarily distracted or possibly was reaching for something inside the vehicle.
Moseman said the others in the van had injuries ranging from minor to serious, and were taken to a hospital. He said some other firefighters and support personnel in the convoy remained in the area, while others continued on to the fire.
Parachute is about 170 miles west of Denver.
The 137,000-acre blaze has forced 8,900 people from their homes since it began June 8 and destroyed at least 79 homes.
The Bigger question is will HRCT be around in 4?

Top players missing from CommunicAsia
Posted: 9:59 PM (Manila Time) / Jun. 18, 2002
By Erwin Lemuel G. Oliva
INQ7.net
SINGAPORE -- Two competing European mobile phone players this year decided to unravel their latest products away from one of the largest telecommunications show in Asia.
Finland-born company Nokia and the mobile phone division of German firm Siemens held separate events at a hotel in Singapore, instead of having them at the CommunicAsia 2002.
An official from Siemens said CommunicAsia focuses more on innovations in the mobile networks, and not much on handset products. Thus it was more prudent for the company to put up a separate show where they could unveil its new mobile handsets to members of the international media.
Meanwhile, Nokia held its own three-day event at the Swissotel at the Stamford hotel, where the company displayed its newest mobile handsets and services. A separate group of media analysts were also given a peek at its latest handsets.
Motorola also decided to forego CommunicAsia this year.
Korean firm Samsung, newcomer Sony Ericsson, and Japanese phonemaker Kyocera, however, decided to join CommunicAsia 2002, as they aim to break into the GSM-dominated market of the Asia Pacific.
Other participant-exhibitors were Compaq-HP, Microsoft, NTT DoCoMo, NEC, Nortel Networks, Panasonic and Singapore Telecoms. Most of these companies introduced various applications and technology supporting the next generation of mobile devices and services, such as multimedia messaging and General Packet Radio Service.
In a speech, however, CommunicAsia organizer Singapore Exhibition Services Pte Ltd said that this year's show saw a 30-percent increase in visitor pre-registration compared with last year.
"Our shows have weathered the storm better than other shows in Asia. Thus these facts reinforce the premier position of CommunicAsia 2002 and BroadcastAsia 2002 as the definitive and largest events of its kind in Asia," Stephen Tan, chief executive of Singapore Exhibition Services, said.
More than 1,400 exhibitors from 41 countries joined this year's show, which is supported by Singapore's Information Development Authority.

ElephantTalk and ChinaRailcom Jointly Announce Partnership To Deliver Global VoIP Services and Pre-paid Calling Cards
ElephantTalk Continues Expansion Into China
LOS ANGELES, June 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Elephant Talk Communications, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: ETLK - News) and China Railway Communication Co. Ltd, one of China's largest telecom operators, today announced a partnership to deliver Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services and to market pre-paid calling cards via a global network of retail and reseller channels. ElephantTalk is a subsidiary of The Hartcourt Companies (OTC Bulletin Board: HRCT - News).
Under the terms of the partnership, both companies will join forces to operate VoIP services, which will be implemented with a special emphasis on the Greater China and North American regions. The partnership will provide ChinaRailcom's switched carrier-grade infrastructure in the PRC with access to ElephantTalk's global IP network. ElephantTalk will have similar access to ChinaRailcom's networks throughout China. In return, ElephantTalk will contribute its expertise on voice communication, engineering knowledge and global telecom connections to the partnership.
To facilitate public users adopting the new service, it is planned that a full spectrum of pre-paid calling cards will be launched via the retail and reseller channels of both parties. ChinaRailcom, a fully-licensed operator in China, will market the co-branded products via its retail chains, while ElephantTalk will contribute its reseller channels in the United States and major cities internationally.
"ChinaRailcom is a perfect partner with its solid infrastructure foundation, complemented with its comprehensive network of operating centers and sales channels in the competitive deregulated market," said Mr. Russelle Choi, President and CEO of ElephantTalk. "The partnership signifies the fusion of technical and marketing expertise of both parties and is designed to service the rapidly expanding demand from both corporate and residential customers."
ChinaRailcom, registered with the State Administration for Industry and Commerce in China, is a large state-owned telecommunication operator established with the approval of the State Council and approval of the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecom Industries. ElephantTalk's networks possess cutting edge technology, are scaleable for clients, and are capable of receiving virtually all signaling systems used in the industry. The flexible systems architecture is designed to easily integrate and support advanced VoIP services. This partnership with ChinaRailcom continues to build the Company's strategy to develop itself as a leading global ITSP (Internet Telephony Service Provider). DC100
Hey Free you hear WC is on vacation..lol Maybe a one way ticket out of town.
DC100
Wow...08 thought or hoped we had hit btm..This is sick..would be nice to hear something from Mgmt!
DC100
HI..Just a thought for today.
I think this is SO TRUE...With every trial we are faced with we have
choices as to how they are going to effect us. Hopefully we will be
like the Coffee Bean...and not weaken or get hard hearted...I sure
hope I am like the coffee bean...
Subject: ARE YOU A CARROT, AN EGG, OR A COFFEE BEAN?
A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how
things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to
make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and
struggling. It seemed that as one problem was solved a new one arose.
Her mother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water
and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to a boil. In the
first, she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and the
last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil,
without saying a word.
In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the
carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She then pulled the eggs out
and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed
it in a bowl.
Turning to her daughter, she asked, "Tell me, what do you see?"
"Carrots, eggs, and coffee," she replied. She brought her closer and
asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft.
She then asked her to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the
shell, she observed the hard-boiled egg. Finally, she asked her to
sip the coffee.
The daughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma.
The daughter then asked, "What does it mean, mother?"
Her mother explained that each of these objects had faced the same
adversity--boiling water--but each reacted differently. The carrot
went in strong, hard and unrelenting. However after being subjected
to the boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg had been
fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior. But,
after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened.
The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the
boiling water they had changed the water. "Which are you?" she asked
her daughter. "When adversity knocks on your door, how do you
respond? Are you a carrot, an egg, or a coffee bean?"
Think of this: Which am I? Am I the carrot that seems strong, but
with pain and adversity, do I wilt and become soft and lose my
strength?
Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the
heat? Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death, a breakup, a
financial hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened and
stiff? Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and
tough with a stiff spirit and a hardened heart?
Or am I like the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the hot
water, the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water
gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor. If you are like the
bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and change the
situation around you.
When the hours are the darkest and trials are their greatest, do you
elevate to another level? How do you handle adversity?
ARE YOU A CARROT, AN EGG, OR A COFFEE BEAN?
Yes boatgirl i know everytime i see a stock drop 47% in one day i go buy a boat load the next day..How are you at baking cakes?

SALT LAKE CITY & SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 13, 2002-- Fonix® Corporation (OTC BB: FONX), a leading provider of natural-user interface solutions for wireless and mobile devices, Internet and telephony systems, and vehicle telematics, and Hitachi Semiconductor (America) Inc., a leading automotive semiconductor system solution provider, announced today the availability of a comprehensive solution that combines the efficient Hitachi hardware and Fonix voice recognition software for in-vehicle computing systems. The companies also signed a joint marketing agreement that further refines the collaborative effort.
The resulting solution will integrate the Fonix Automotive Solution Package with the Hitachi 32-bit SuperH® RISC architecture for telematics applications. The powerful software and hardware technologies will combine to simplify the design of automotive telematics systems that offer text-to-speech and speech-recognition capabilities, a growing core requirement for next-generation automotive systems to help ensure passenger safety and efficient communications within a vehicle. The joint solution will also help speed the development of advanced in-vehicle computing systems with new audio and video functions, and additional navigation, communication, entertainment, and safety features.
"The Fonix embedded automotive voice-based technology provides a high-quality speech solution specifically tailored for telematics communication," said Tatsuo Yamamoto, Vice President of CIS/Telematics Business Unit at Hitachi Semiconductor (America) Inc. "By incorporating Fonix speech software in proven system platforms that use SuperH processors, we make it easier for service providers and automotive OEMs to design speech-enabled car infotainment system (CIS) products. We save our customers valuable development time, too."
"The Hitachi high-performance, automotive-grade SuperH RISC processors, combined with Fonix high-quality text-to-speech and automatic speech recognition, will provide a powerful platform that will give customers the most advanced speech applications available. This joint solution brings unprecedented speech capability into the automotive telematics industry. Developers can now integrate high noise-tolerant speech recognition and natural-sounding text-to-speech capabilities into their automotive products. Hitachi provides superb quality platforms with exceptional support and service, which is directly in line with our business and technical objectives", said Kurt W. Flygare, Fonix Vice President of Sales. "This relationship will allow us to continue to provide the best speech solutions to Hitachi, to developers of in-vehicle computing systems, and to all consumers."
The Fonix voice-based functions are implemented on two reference platforms that use Hitachi's SH-4 series processors: one using the SH7750 and another using the SH7751R. These 32-bit SuperH chips provide the mix of performance, connectivity, and functionality that's necessary for next-generation telematics applications. The SH-4 processors deliver over 400 million instructions per second (MIPS) and have the floating point unit (FPU) and DSP capabilities that are critical to many telematics applications.
