Brilliant question!!! Truly...
To date I've read nothing about a so-called synergistic effect of any-statin plus Vascepa, and I'd think one statin-Vascepa combo would be superior to another. I think Matt's work came to closest to why your question needs an answer.
According to US Center Disease control Alzheimer's is increasing by 145% for 2000-2017. What is behind this rapid rise?
Some like myself think it corresponds with the emergence of statins which over time rob the brain of necessary cholesterol.
Of course the SOC in medical practice is chemo-radiation for most cancers which in another 25 years will be viewed like blood-letting (barbaric). Kill the tumor and at the same time destroy one's liver--real genius at work!
Percentage wise, Vascepa lowers CVD events within the same margin as statins, yet EPA's safety profile is staggeringly superior to all statins.
To date, Amarin hasn't even scratched the surface of its true potential. I am no fan of statins, my reasons given. I think the side effects of statins presents a horrible safety profile.
'Mr Stockboy' (a playful moniker that's all)
I personally have directly communicated back and forth with Dr. Hull, Dr Bhatt, and Dr Matt along with John Thero and I've owned this stock a long time. Karim refused to communicate with me. I have my own thoughts too, like the over-use of statins has correlated IMO with the rise of Alzheimer's and dementia because the brain is being cholesterol deprived. I personally take Vascepa (no statin). I personally communicated with Alex too, long before he made his move. I actually 'reached out' to him.
Just because I recently joined IHUB does not lessen my comments. I also spoke directly with Marjac who I regularly supported.
It would be nice, if people were nice to me. I usually enjoy IHUB and it's why I joined. To learn. To grow. To have my own ideas changed. But belittle me and I will respond. I have a BS, Masters, and Doctorate so save the nonsense.
BIG NEWS: FISH OIL KILLS MILLIONS
And it's because fish oil Omega 3's contained DEADLY DHA as well as oils which had gone bad.
EPA does not contribute to Alzheimer's and you heard it hear first if you knew how to contact Dr. Hull.
FISH OILS KILLS Let's get this straight.
Why Vascepa (EPA) is a superior option
I've never done this, but it's time. I like an investigator Hull in the UK suspect Vascepa is a distinct advantage against Alzheimer's. The reason is, if you look at the rise of statins, you will see a correlation rise of Alzheimer's and dementia. WHY? The answer is: The brain needs cholesterol. Statins may initially help the heart, but they rob the brain of cholesterol. I hope some of you intellectuals will study what we know.
Vascepa cut thru how Omega 3's are dirty capsules of DHA trash hurting heart health. EPA won the day, but here's what we at Amarin need to say.
Vascepa is a natural product. N A T U R A L . EPA has a powerful effect against triglycerides and arteriosclerosis. It's a game changer.
I'm REALLY FRUSTRATED because the scientific story is not being told. EPA IS GOLD. DHA IS NOT. People popping Omega 3's are popping TRASH... SLUGGGG, TRASH, GARBAGE... they are actually hurting their heart.
I hope someone will pick up on what I'm posting here because I'm steeped in science. Dr. Hull in the UK convinced me with data how EPA was kicking the Alzheimer's butt. But at some point you people need to get a scientific grip on a counter side effect: Statins may and do lower cholesterol, but the brain needs cholesterol. People are being over-dosed gang.
I hope someone picks up on this.
I wonder how Aaron Berg felt the day Per blew off the USA and JM seemed okay with that?
I still wonder why blow off the USA since it's generating almost all the revenue. Furthermore, sales are only scratching the surface.
I find it hard to believe Berg is JUST focused on EU; I highly doubt it.
Aaron was upset over Karim's dismissal of the American market. There are plans for the USA and Amarin retains 60% moving forward. Just watch as Aaron shows why the USA is still worth oodles of money.
Why on earth? We still own 60% or better. Are you desperate?
Let's see more executive changes FAST!!! Alex you said it, 'Time is of the essence!'
Let's hear Berg step up and tell all of us how he's going to recapture USA market. Otherwise, fire him immediately. Come on Alex, get going here. Fire LIsa, Donna, the rest, get going man!
Aaron tattled to Alex, and so forth. Aaron was entirely ignored by Karim, even on donut Thursdays.
Say goodbye to Zwick. "Goodbye Zwick!" Lisa's not needed either at her inflated salary. Adios Donna, we'll get an Irish lassie to replace you and Lisa. Need more Irish. Ketchum and Reilly change their names to O'Ketchum and O'Reilly to support new BOD. Abidar doesn't fit anywhere!
9 left on Executive Team. Jason Marks is GONE.
Jason Marks (legal) is GONE
I'd diet except my robust nature is attractive. Let's head for $8 this summer while I get a leg wax. (All in fun hahahaha)
I find myself inspired by many of you. My thirst to add shares is growing.
I know what you're all thinking... REALLY? Yes just that amazing. I'm reading your mind RIGHT NOW!
I'd humbly suggest Sarissa is targeting the quarterly as its first big step to publicly turn Amarin around. It would be riveting if Alex participated on the conference call and a few private investors like yourselves offer your names to ask questions along with analysts. Marjac and CaptainSundaySchool (I mean Beer or is it Beard?) along with a few others should be IHUB nominees.
I still like the share buyback program even if its in small tranches. "We're going to whittle down 100M shares via cost reductions over the next two years."
Roughly 406M shares x $1.36 = $554M Market Cap
Announce 18.5% an immediate 75M share buy-back = $102M
With shares brought down that much it will surely squeeze the problem, and reinstate immediate market cap value into the stock. Perhaps the new BOD can find $50M just in cost reduction and announce that as part of the plan too.
I like this share buy-back idea and hope the BOD representing shareholders will use the low pps to do it ASAP. Comments?
My apologies Marjac for not communicating what I meant. I'm ready to leave KM in the past (emotionally that is because how he fleeced us sickens me every time I see his name in lights), but for all the legal effort you do, boy I'm sure appreciative. Thanks for keeping all of us in the loop! (smile) Yer the best Marjac!
To EVERYONE.
KM is a sidebar, a rabbit trail. Let it go!
We have much more important issues, so I appeal to Marjac, don't feed this any longer. Thank you!
For me, the Sarissa takeover is NOT FRUSTRATING, but welcomed.
In short order, an entire BOD exited including the CEO. That was more substantive news than Amarin has had in years!!!
I'm convinced every top level executive is also under scrutiny. I'm hoping for MANY dismissals, lowered admin costs, a lean machine, and heroes at Amarin justly rewarded along with shareholders. Sarissa must undo the Du Du and get rid of the old to make room for the new! Overall, I'm ignoring the pps other than opportunities to add more shares.
The major issue for me is, Who is going to tell, advocate, advance the Vascepa/Vazkepa story in a manner that uses social media like a 16 yr old in heat? Either the USA Pres is doing something right, or he needs to be fired, but in any case, the USA market is still worth billions and billions. That's what frustrates me, honestly.
Anyway I'm not really focused on the pps until it's in the teens again and climbing higher.
On behalf of Investor-Grown-Ups...
We just demolished and replaced all of the BODs. We just sent to the overpaid CEO packing.
We're waiting for a new CEO and further executive team changes. All changes will have a financial upside.
So it's nobody's fault we got approval in Israel; it just happened. Furthermore, the quarter won't be so negative per Captain Magic.
Spain, Italy, and France have to be at the top of Denner's agenda.
Chin up lads.
I sat down and looked at the Executive team. Quite honestly, all of them are subject to being dismissed. The 'culture' at Amarin under Sarissa has changed so much I'm not sure any of them warrant staying.
Were I Alex, I'd immediately fire the CFO for my own choice. I'd totally kick Human Resources and Communications down the road, without hesitation. Three gone.
Karim's pretty picture removed from website. His insane salary: GONE!
Predictions: To be fired and replaced. I see no less than 5 Executives out the door. Pay will change with new hires. Lots of money saved!
Tom Reilly - Sarissa will want their own CFO.
Aaron Berg - Totally mishandling the USA.
Donna Pasek - Overpaid and position shouldn't be VP.
Jordan Zwick - Maybe the most worthless of the bunch. VP honestly?
Lisa DeFrancesco - VP? Are you kidding me?
I'm personally on the fence with the rest of them.
No offense but KM demanding money reminds me of the squealing pigs in 'The Silence of the Lambs'.
This ONLY shows KM true colors. Money-grabber.
Did Karim mislead about Germany? Did he lie about Spain, France, and Italy?
One thing is for certain, he over-promised and under-delivered. He wasted millions on Germany, then rationalized why it was not approved. He gave everyone the expectation that Spain, France, and Italy were 2022, or maybe early 2023, and so as March ends: Where's China?
Some of his gravy train countries are simply countries that base approval on the USA FDA (Puerto Rico?). If Karim stayed, we'd be hearing Guam approved, or maybe the Virgin Islands.
For a robust buy-out, Alex's team will secure the biggies and watch for major changes on the USA front. Did anyone notice? When Karim's departure was announced, Alex's team made sure investors learned the BOD chairperson had been appointed. Alex continues to be three steps ahead of the old regime knowing time is of the essence.
Knowing the fleecing of Amarin by corporate insiders is over, next week and thereafter is rather exciting.
Karim M appointed CEO of Gravy Train Dog Food Corporation.
Okay, I'm joking, but I just HAD TOO!!!
Skin in the Game: New chairperson, the BOD... they all have real skin in the game!
Not that the pps need respond (whenever does it?), but this is huge newsmaker for anyone investing in Amarin.
'Ding dong the witch is dead!' well, I mean that symbolically, but the meaning of the song fits. When I look at our team of 7, I see unity in spirit, in investment, and sharing the same goals WITH THE INVESTMENT COMMUNITY holding much much much more than Sarissa alone. This means this truly has become a shareholder-run company and rewards will go to anyone in Amarin playing for the same team.
It's quite exciting KM is gone and there's no way he could stay after the recent $7M fiasco standing with the BOD. He made his choice, now he's gone. Good riddings to the CEO who never communicated with the real investment community.
Anyway, I have every confidence Alex already knows who is going to be CEO. Given all that has happened, Sarissa is moving quickly. This signals to me, Alex knows 'time is of essence' and the turn-around needs to be fast and dramatic. I look forward to future press releases that will cause the pps to rocket.
Let's HIGH FIVE our new BOD Chairperson!
With "skin in the game" the Amarin website tells us: "Since 2016, Odysseas Kostas has served as a Partner and Senior Managing Director of Sarissa, and he currently also serves as Head of Research. He most recently served as a director at Evercore ISI (formerly ISI), where he was employed from 2011 to 2015, covering the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. Previously, he practiced internal medicine as part of the Yale New Haven Health system and was engaged as a consultant to various biotechnology companies. Since December 2017, Dr. Kostas has served as Chairman of the board of directors of Innoviva, Inc., and since February 2020, has served on the board of directors of Armata Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Dr. Kostas also served on the board of directors of Enzon Pharmaceuticals from 2013 to 2020. In addition, from 2010 to 2011, Dr. Kostas served on the board of directors of Mast Therapeutics (formerly known as ADVENTRX Pharmaceuticals). Dr. Kostas received his S.B. degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his M.D. degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School."
I'd say he's HIGHLY QUALIFIED!!!
Here's why the pps broke down.
The thought was Amarin lost 90% of the CVD USA market, when in fact, they lost 30-40%. Amarin should be at $10/share minimum, not where it is today.
Meanwhile not one dime has been dropped on the EU market, so even more room to run.
Fair play to you. Thanks.
We all know Vascepa is SAFE. That is monitoring committee lets the study go forward when they can stop it, is a positive. How is Amarin protecting this?
Respectfully and I'm a long Vascepa personal user, but I keep reading this word "invasive" and wonder, What do people mean by this?
Dr. Hull (UK) postulates Vascepa EPA prolongs the onset of Alheizer's and dementia, but there's nothing "invasive" about it.
Many here may not like this, but it's true Amarin has NO SKIN in BRAVE. Anyone could jump on the wagon.
The real question is, Does Amarin have a viable connection to a research project not bearing their name (anywhere)?
Amarin had/has a clear connection with Dr. Budoff (sp), for example. They have a UK connection to Dr. Hull (Leeds). But thread the connection to the VA and Wisconsin and explain how Amarin has a connection? Amarin has NO SKIN in this Alzheimer's study.
This troubles me because it inclines me to think this Brave has no real value to Amarin--after all, what research is revealed is open to anyone.
Just my opinion but Denner doesn't need to be on the BOD if his team is already controlling the BOD (except KM who may for all we know have embraced the new team--it is possible though he won't like the salary and stock options cut).
This HIkma appeal to the Federal court definitely caught our eye because there's a whole new mindset at the BOD level. I'd hope they'd at least reach out to Marjac for a consult conversation since he represented so many shareholders; his perspective could possibly help the legal team and I'd like Amarin to pay Marjac $250,000, in my opinion.
It's a long-shot but I'd like to hear more color on Alzheimer's than a statin-V capsule. I corresponded with Dr. Hull (UK) two years ago and he was very optimistic about V being preventative. What excites me is knowing there are scientific reasons for optimism. I personally think V may pro-long the onset of Alzheimer's. If so, Amarin rockets to triple digits. Alex also knows this.
My bad! Whoops. Wrote it backwards
Magistrates serve District judges, yes?
You don’t live until you learn to be corrected. Haha
Bottom Line: District Judge went against Magistrate Judge.
This increases Amarin's odds for its trial against Hikma. A magistrate is understood as a superior to the district judge. Assuming (which can't be assumed) Amarin's case goes before non-political Federal judges, Amarin's case demands further re-trial. Remember, HealthNet chose to settle out of court. Hikma got off easy.
People, it's time patents count for something. This destruction of patents is criminal.
You do realize fellow Amarin investors...
We are in a BEAR market.
We are watching the BANK problems shaking the markets.
We are watching REAL ESTATE roll over. The automobile industry is in trouble as loan-buyers are going under water.
We are witnessing the NATIONAL DEBT stressed by higher interest rates too. BEAR! BEAR! BEAR!
We are in a DOWN DOWN DOWN year. So small volume drops in our share price mean nothing. NOTHING!
Now to all you wonderful people, there is one thing missing on the BOD page (website).
Each board member concludes with "________ is well qualified to serve as a member of the board"
EXCEPT ONE PERSON!!!
Oh no! KM
Hear! Hear! This is an outrage against all of humankind! God forbid he exposes any hair on his chest (or back for that matter)!!! The serious nature of KM's brazen stubble and suit-less tie, well is it enough to lead to another proxy contest?
I think not. I imagine suffering from baldness, KM appreciates his tough-image Telly look!
Observation: KM nor any Executive have announced his/her own departure. At least not yet! Anyone can be fired, but who walked out on the employees was the BOD with the chairman being fired. No doubt our new BOD is evaluating executive performance and KM may feel he is willing to remain on if the BOD agrees. KM may also feel an obligation to his employees, believe it or not.
I woke up today totally expecting today's press release - a wish I suppose which came true. I liked the simple communication telling all of us, 'We're here... actively at work... now we press on shareholders and employees sharing a common goal.'
I take Vascepa 4 capsules in the morning as I'm forgetful at night. I've never had a side effect, but once was given (only 1 month) a Hikma generic and it stunk to high heaven! I threw it away!
The dose of icosapent ethyl is the same between Vascepa and generics - 1 g. An MSDS is what it implies: Material SAFETY data sheet, a far cry from a patent.
The carrier by composition & weight is different, and generics do appear to add stabilizers, and do have much shorter shelf life. Amazingly the FDA doesn't even seem to care how in Vascepa's case, the carrier is essential to ensuring purity.
In the final analysis, there's no question efficacy is affected by the carrier, and even more so by additional chemistries such as stabilizers.
Why is it, for example, a great many people can't tolerate a generic of any drug until they're prescribe the true original? The FDA doesn't care and insurance companies definitely don't care except forcing doctors to write cheap scripts or watch their business get stripped of customers.
My two cents.
Anyone notice?
1. Amarin is essentially holding its script zone (60%)
2. Generics are competing with each other (40%)
I hope this isn't lost on anyone. I still believe $1B exists in the USA, and with another indication, much more.
