ViXS to demo Ultra HD 4K and media transcoding at CES 2014

ViXS Systems has announced that it has partnered with Intel in developing a product-ready reference design running Comcast’s RDK cable stack software to create a common framework for cable tru2way for IP and gateway devices for Comcast and other cable multiple-system operators (MSO).

The reference design consisting of Intel’s Puma 6 MG DOCSIS 3.0 media gateway with ViXS’ XCode 5106 multi-stream HD transcoder solution is going to be demonstrated by ViXS at CES 2014. The demonstration will show transcoding and media streaming to mobile and tablet devices including Ultrabook and all-in-one PCs.

ViXS transcoding is added to Intel’s Golden Spring’s reference design as an RDK transcoding plugin for live media steaming. ViXS says running the latest RDK software this is a self-contained complete end to end solution providing customers a quick and cost effective means of adding media steaming to Intel DOCSIS 3.0 based cable gateway products. The XCode 5000 family of media-processor and transcoding System on Chip (SoC) solutions allow support for single, dual and quad HD to HD transcoding to allow operators to add flexibility to their media gateway designs.

With cable distribution in North America still relying primarily on MPEG-2 for compression and transmission, it is critically important that cable gateway devices for the home are able to efficiently and cost-effectively transcode content to MPEG-4 and other streaming media formats for delivery to IP devices inside and outside of the home, explains ViXS.

“We are delighted to partner with Intel on creating a demonstrable reference design for cable gateway devices,” said Sally Daub, President and CEO, ViXS Systems. “The combination of Intel’s Puma 6 MG DOCSIS 3.0 chipset and ViXS’ XCode sets a new standard for cable media gateway devices. ViXS is displaying its solutions from January 7th through 10th at booth MP25953 in South Hall 2 in the Las Vegas Convention Center.

ViXS Systems has also announced the availability of the home media gateway market’s first solution to support Ultra HD 4K content and advanced HEVC 10-bit media processing developed in partnership with Wyplay. ViXS says this solution offers a 50% reduction in bandwidth consumption. This new architecture is based on Wyplay's middleware platform called Frog. ViXS is also showcasing this product too at CES 2014.

ViXS says by using its new XCode 6400 (sampling now and in production in Q1 2014), telco and satellite operators can rapidly deploy Ultra HD 4K content to increase the value of their offering and give their subscribers an unprecedented viewing experience.

The Asus Transformer TF701T tablet streams 2K on the screen. Then you can toggle it out with a miniHDMI to a 4K monitor.

Yes I know....the HDMI has nothing to do with stream. Of course....and the NP-1 will stream 4K to and Hook to a 4K monitor with...what do you know...HDMI.

There is no difference here. Both same hardware. Both will stream and both can do 4K output.

NP-1 will save some bucks. But no portability. Will have remote....the ASUS tablet is the remote.

I'm just making this point as The NVidia Tegra 4 is not the first to stream content with NTEK. It is in Mobile devices already. Asus has the claim already they stream 4K on the tablet. It has been out.

I'm all about NTEK doing awesome at the CES. My opinion is if I was investing into this separate box-top technology, I would wait for them to have the HDMI 2.0 incorporated. NTEK I'm sure will make the change.

Everyone keeps saying that NTEK is the first to stream with 4k with the nVidia Tegra 4 processor.

But the asus transformer TF701T has been out and selling with reviews. It is a tablet with a 2k screen and will stream 4k through the mini HDMI. It has the same hardware.

They were on sale for 399 last few weeks but are back up to 429.

The NP-H1 is basically a miniPC with the Haswell intel chipset. NTEK is listing it as using the B85 chipset. Motherboards now have the newer intel chipset the Z87.

If you bought one of the mini pc's from amazon with these integrated chipset....choose a i5 processor or better....you could be up and streaming in no time in 4K. You just need a 4K TV or monitor. You don't need special software. Just choose the correct resolution like you do on your home PC already. The HDMI included is the 1.4 and will be limited by 30Hz. Of course the B85 can't go past 24Hz. The PC port (non HDMI) doesn't have that Hz limitation.

That NP-H1 I can't see ever being a selling product in the end user department. NTEK has it as commercial.

The NP-1 however.....is a game of time.... Tablets already have the nVidia tegra 4 like the HP Slate. They stream easily and have the hardware for HD....but I notice they aren't advertising as such yet. Knowing.....you just need the slimPort to hook that tablet to the 4K TV.

I will be impressed if NTEK can be at CES with NO OTHER stream 4k Device. You know the 4K smart TV's will be all over the place. NTEK needs the edge in cost/performance...to make a go. Excited to see what happens
