In this case, update the old board with the new. While not technically the same company, the discussion is about the same company, so it's best to keep it in one place.
I'll fix it.
Yes, quite close! Looks like it'll happen in the wee hours tomorrow morning....
Education Wiki aka Stock Market 101 coming along:
http://learn.advfn.com/index.php?title=Main_Page
Added some nice graphics. Organized some more content.
Need more content! Anybody who's signed up for the wiki, please add a little something in there.....anybody who'd like to contribute, pleaes contact me.
Really want to make this a very valuable resource for everybody, especially new investors.
It's already starting to get some search engine traffic....
I was pleased to see that while many other sites bit the dust today under the increased load, both Ihub and ADVFN didn't even flinch. Held up under all the traffic.
And for everybody asking "What the hell happened?" at that time -- it was reported on the Dow Jones newswire right on the homepage in the bottom right news section within minutes of the big dip.
Pretty cool!
Great contest, guys. Congrats to Northernlights -- I've credited your account with the 1 year prize!
ryjo,
That's an ongoing issue we've been having with PRN. I've asked our team to tag it so it'll show up for IDCN properly and also pointed it out to PRN to better tag their releases. The ticker on it is malformed.
Thanks for pointing it out.
Looks that way here, too. I just asked some Brits to exit the pub early. Either the charts will be back momentarily or you won't be able to read this message. We'll see which happens. :)
Lots of cutting-edge improvements around here lately. :)
A milestone stat from today, as we approach 50M messages:

Video Page Updated:
Warren has released the latest version of the Video View...
http://ih.advfn.com/p.php?pid=ihvView&y=RCL4tCj-4D0
* IE spacing issues fixed - was loads of white space
* If the Video has a ticker attached, it now includes the latest messages from the board (love this one!)
* Chart flipped to white, got rid of gray border
Is anybody else having trouble with the homepage? I keep getting "OOOps" error. It comes and goes, has been for the last 15 minutes.
Can't seem to replicate it in any consistent pattern.
More Changes to Homepage:
* By popular demand, New Boards is back
* Moved Favorite Boards down a bit until we make some tweaks to make it work better; moved Top 15 Trader Forums back up there.
* Added a News Widget - includes news from Dow Jones, CNBC, Forbes
* The homepage needs some polishing up (especially community contests, etc) now that we've released a lot of code on it; should see that over the next week.
I'd suggest everybody give the homepage a solid look. There's a LOT of content there, maybe a bit noisy, very few ads, and some really neat tricks. Among them are the various auto-refreshing components and the Top Lists.
Added Features to Hot/Breakout Boards:
Okay. MEATLOAF has added some groovaliciousness to the Hot!/Breakout Boards.
Two changes -
* There's now a flaming newspaper (toaster?) to show that news has been released on that board (potentially the reason it's "hot" in the first place)
* The trailing zeros have been removed from the quote & change (looks much cleaner to me now)
http://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/HotBoardsRelative.aspx
You're absolutely correct; MEAT will get that fixed. It must have gotten changed with one of our code updates in the last few days. It worked as I described prior...
>>When are you going to update the quote page. I end up there all the time now because I type and then hit enter.
From the homepage?
The searchbox on the homepage does a Get Quote with a default enter click; and a Board Search everywhere else on the site.
A lot of this is designed a bit Web 2.0ish and assumes 99% of the people using the site will be on relatively new software....
Kitt,
I mean, like, it's 2 CLICKS to clear the field THEN enter my symbol..
Could you be more specific -- what page you're on and what browser your using when this occurs?
it should be a single click to put your cursor in the box and to clear it. Not two clicks.
If it's not doing that, we need to track it down...
>>To not have a place for new boards is flunking basic 101 marketing.
You guys are rough sometimes!
We aren't done with the homepage. It's being rolled out in parts. Improvements all around in the actual functionality of the homepage. Give it some time to sink in. Lots of new stuff being released on IH lately....
We'll find some space for the New Boards.
Homepage Changes/Upgrades:
MEATLOAF has been plugging away adding groovy stuff to the homepage this week.
http://investorshub.advfn.com/
There is now a logged out and logged in version. For most of you reading this message, the logged in version is the only one you'll probably see, so I'll cover it only.
* The search bar on the homepage now uses the same cool dropdown/suggestions stuff you've known and loved for the last 7 days or so
* New charts and indexes -- DJIA, NASDAQ, OIL, and Gold. All of which change colors of the headers based on up/down. Will auto-update after 30 seconds if you stay on the homepage.
* Top Lists will now auto-update after 30 seconds.
* Addition of Favorite Boards widget to homepage (in an effort to make the Homepage more useful!). It too will auto-update.
* Huge upgrade to the Videos section. 12 videos show up, including thumbnails. This is generated from the new Videos section. It includes the latest videos added, except the Just For Fun ones.
More features and functionality will appear next week. We just wanted to release this stuff into the wild now.
To ensure the homepage is made even more useful, I've made a change to my iHub browser bookmark for the first time in about 8 years. I've bookmarked the homepage instead of Favorites.
Have a great weekend, all!
Stock Market Education Section Launched:
http://newstuff.advfn.com/
We continue to add information to it daily. It still needs some cleaning up, but it's time to throw it into the wild.
You can read it at via links at the bottom of any page on IHub.
I've credited all the winners! Enjoy your iHub subs and/or extensions. :)
That's a data provider to ADVFN that I'm less than impressed by. I've asked the Feeds team to let me know who provides that data and to correct that particular one for you.
Van, the new changes I was referring to just went live with that post -- give the new search a try now.
After reading everyone's feedback and a bit of late-night brainstorming, Meatloaf has just now implemented some major improvements to the search bar. It uses the "suggestions" concept covered here: #msg-48498254
I think what we've ended up with here is one awesome, new search bar and interface, based on our own ideas and the comments made by the community.
Super easy for new folks. Very search engine like.
Improved for the iHub oldtimers. Even adds the ability to use your keyboard-only!
Less clicks for all. More options for all.
And everybody will discover new ways to search and parts of the site they never knew existed.
Thanks to Meatloaf for whipping up the new code so fast! Thanks to Dave for coding up the new search results page!
I'm a big fan of the "suggestions" that auto-populate on various sites. As you're typing, it guesses what you're looking for.
Down those lines, I'll talk to Meatloaf and see if there's a way we can build the searchbox to "suggest" whatever term you're search for to do the following:
Let's say you're searching for MSFT.
As you're typing in the search box, you can continue typing, but while you're doing so, the form drops down and offers options like:
Search Board Subjects for MSFT
Search All Messages for MSFT
Search Members for MSFT
Etc...
At which point you could click on any of 'em and they take you directly to that page on the new search results page. And of course, we leave in the default options of Stock Quote and Search Boards....so there's big buttons to click as well. This solves the simpler UI issues; as well as makes the folks who already know how to navigate the site in their sleep happy...and still removes a click (or two??). :)
Hmmm..I like it! Let me talk to Meat.

New Search at the Top
We've launched the new search tools this afternoon that I referenced here: #msg-48118525
While I expect some folks to be irritated at the change, I hope everybody will give it a fair shot for a week. This isn't a case of fixing something that isn't broke, but trying to make the site easier to use for new and old users. Our bounce rate (loss of users) due to confusion has always been quite high. This is a shot at seeing if we can improve that.
We're also trying to build a well-rounded site offering excellent message boards AND market data. Some people come here for data. Some people come here for message boards. We're trying to blend both together nicely.
I think the new search is pretty cool. It does not require any extra clicks to get where you want to go. Same as before. Instead of clicking a drop down, you get options on the left. The names of the options should be clearer as well, especially if you're new. One of our hopes is that you'll discover a new way to search or new functions on the site you never knew existed.
You've got two giant buttons to choose from -- stock quote or search boards (all of iHub). And we've added all of the data tools we have to offer over to the right as a drop-down.
Also a simple hitting enter after you type in the search term or ticker will default to searching iHub/boards. The old menu sometimes wouldn't work like that. Or you'd need to click juuuuust the right small area in the drop down to get what you wanted.
As a side note, it really cleans up the interface/site layout nicely.
We'll inform everybody to start inserting $ in their posts after we've got PS working the way we want for full-scale launch.
Glad you're liking what you see! :)
I think you'll like the results once we're done in a couple of weeks.
We're actually trying to make things cleaner, simpler, less cluttered.
Especially the navigation at the top. Simpler, yet offering all of the extra features we haven't linked to that ADVFN provides us. We often get asked how to get to the News page....or if we have a stock screener...or price alerts. They have a lot of useful stuff that you simply can't get to unless we link to it somewhere.
They're all there now.
More info on this entire topic here: #msg-48118525
RE: Homepage/Search Menus
We're doing significant tweaks to the homepage and the search menus. You'd be surprised at the new user confusion when trying to figure out where to go from the homepage. The old users - they know how to operate the site; newbies to the site, it needs to be a bit simpler, yet still work fantastic for the oldies. We think we have the ticket for that.
The old bottom search menu should be back shortly. That one came out a bit before its time.
here's the idea for a few things coming up:
Homepage - more market data and market news; general cleaning up of it to make it much more useful to go to; and addition of a big, sexy videos section. Should see all this developing/being released in the next 7 days, I'd expect.
Search menus - they're going to be big and easy to use as you've seen; however, the results page isn't finished yet (hence the confusion). once it is, you'll have a single choice to make - quote or boards (ihub entirely). from the results page, it'll be very search-engine like and you'll be able to click any number of options - subjects, videos, full-text, members, etc. Many of these options, a huge percentage of people dont even realize exist in the first place.
Education Section Update
We've made some significant strides on the Education Section/Wiki.
I've organized it a bit; and myself and the Education contributors have slowly beeng adding content.
http://learn.advfn.com/index.php?title=Main_Page
The Education Wiki is live, but it's not linked to on the site. Hoping to do that later this week if we can beef it up a little more.
I really think this is going to be a fantastic resource when it's done.
If the Education Contributors would help add some more, I'd appreciate it; if anybody wants to sign up to contribute, please contact me. If you want to suggest a section that should be covered, feel free to post that.
Thanks!
How about this?

RE: Buy vs Sell on Trades Screen
You're right, all trades are technically a buy and a sell.
What the trades page does is try to determine what the executed order orginiated as based on the executed price. It takes an educated guess.
If the order executes at/near the ask price, it calls it a buy. If the order executes at/near the bid price, it calls it a sell.
Buy volume or sell volume is a daily sum total of the individual trades for the day for buys and sells.
The trades video might help, as well:
http://ih.advfn.com/p.php?pid=demov&v=tr
Also, click Help on the Trades page, there's this text there, as well as other useful information:
The 'Buy', 'Sell' and '?' columns - Where the 'Price' is closest to the 'Offer' price, the trade is considered a 'Buy'. Where it is closest to the 'Bid' price, the trade is considered to be a 'Sell'. Where it is dead centre between 'Bid' and 'Offer', it appears in the '?' column; this indicates that the trade cannot be identified as either a 'Buy' or a 'Sell'.
Let me know if you have any other questions....
Tim,
We'll be adding a simple dropdown menu very soon to the top that lists all of the extra data tools that aren't in the menu (like stock screener, Forex, Commodities, etc)
Fow now, you're welcome to bookmark the Forex page, though:
http://ih.advfn.com/p.php?pid=forex
Glad you (and others) like it so far! We'll be adding functionality throughout IH to make it easier to add, view, and search them in the coming weeks. They'll be very well embedded in the site. Again, any special requests for Videos Page 2.0, please send via me....
New Videos Section Launched!
I'm very excited to announce the launch of our new, shiny Videos section:
http://ih.advfn.com/p.php?pid=ihv
It's accessible via the top right in the navigation menu above; via the normal searches; and soon very prominently on the new homepage.
Our videos on the homepage have gotten popular over the last year and this is the expanded version of that project.
Videos are great because they provide another way to present market information. A static chart with text commentary is very cool....but a chart with voice commentary and a mouse pointer helping explaining key data/indicators -- now that's groovy.
Expect to see lots of market-related video content added as we go. Not just stock charts, but market commentary and educational videos, too.
The best part about this new system? Anybody can contribute to it. All it takes is to locate a video on Youtube. You can be the original author OR include a video you found that would be useful to the iHub community.
There are currently three categories: Stock Chart, Educational, and Just For Fun.
You're welcome to add fun videos (nothing vulgar or would otherwise break our TOU, please), but they will not be listed on the Videos Homepage. Only market-related videos will be shown there.
So, Uncle Matt, why would we bother to contribute/add videos to the IHub Video system, when I can just link directly to the Youtube one?
Great question!
I view our Video system as Youtube, but for stocks. If you go to YT, you're likely have a hard time finding a video for exactly what you're looking for that is up to date and relevant. It's just not built for the real-time nature of the stock market and tickers. Our system, however, is built around tickers and sorted by time/date.
What we've done is leveraged the best features of Youtube and wrapped it up in a stock market-focused search and presentation layout.
One of my favorite features? Load up a video that has a stock ticker associated with it. It shows a chart, quote, and links to Level II, news, discussion board....cool, eh?
We also encourage people who have their own sites to contribute videos. We offer a special place in the display for you to add a link to your personal site. For those without a personal site, you're welcome to put your board, a message, whatever you'd like in there....
This is version 1.0. Soon, the videos will be shown on the IH homepage, added to your profile here in IHub, searchable via IH...and much, much more. We wanted to get it out now so everybody can start adding videos and playing around with it. Version 2.0 is planned very soon and we welcome any comments that any of you might have. Part of 2.0 is making video uploading possible right here on IH, just like you can do with images.
Alright, enough text...let's do some watching. Go take a look at the videos page, watch a video or two, let us know what you think, and add a video while you're there! It's easy! Just click Add A Video at the top of any video page....

A job well done to Warren for coding this project: http://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/profile.asp?user=156132
Lucy, we have an open issue ticket (have had for a while) with PRN regarding this. The news items sent to us aren't being marked properly with the symbols, so we can't tell which company/tickers they are associated with. I'll see where this is at and if I can hunt somebody down directly at PRN....
Glad you like it! Meatloaf has done a brilliant job on it. He took something we all dreamed up in a meeting and made it reality. Gotta love that!
It's still in tweaking/BETA/development mode, and will be changing every few days....so any feedback on it is appreciated.
We hadn't added Globe to the "flaming newspaper" feed so to speak. It was showing up on Quote & News Pages, though.
Check now. Newspapers should be flaming in your Favorites page. :)
FYI - Globenewswire Added to Newsfeeds
#msg-46477024
Globenewswire Added to News Feeds
I'm pleased to announce that we've added Globenewswire to our list of news feeds.
http://www.globenewswire.com/
They're a fast-growing PR distribution firm and now cover quite a few equities.
Any news released via Globenewswire starting 2/9/10 will show up in our news database.
Example:
http://ih.advfn.com/p.php?pid=nmona&cb=1265775447&article=41460339&symbol=N%5EADP
This will fix the issue 'missing PRs' that were often reported.
Let me know if there are any issues/missed articles.
Should be fixed by Wednesday AM.
