I agree, do we want a player to play hard and get the out or do we want the player to play it safe, lose the game but play another couple years to add to their checkbook.
Thats one of the worst things also. Just the look on the hitters face tells it all. He knew he was not only out but he was out by 2 steps.
I have to say I feel that Jr did it the right way. It is always a shame when you lose a player to age that just can't do it anymore. He has always been a classy guy. He was a true pro.....
If you watch baseball you have to know the name Angel Hernandez. He has been involved in many bad calls through the years and one has to wonder why he still has a job.
I still can't believe how well he handled himself. I give the guy a lot of credit and I have full respect for him. Some players in baseball would have had to have been restrained.

UH oh ... who killed off Jim Joyce?....
Bring me the head of Jim Joyce! So says this anonymous critic, who wasted no time breaking into the umpire's Wikipedia page to register his disgust at that call at first base earlier that denied the Tigers' Armando Galarraga a perfect game. For a little while -- until someone went in and corrected it -- Joyce had a date of death, as you can see above. Harsh ... but that's how they do it in the 313.

Your right, there should be something but make it a system like football. I would rather there be 5 extra minutes in some games and have the call be right than to have something like that happen. Already the instand replay question is popping up on websites and news sites. The heck with the human element.
He should be saying what kind of a blind idiot am I. People have been saying I shouldn't be a ump anymore and should retire... It has already hit MSNBC and ABC News sites front page. It will be on CBS News I am sure whenever they look at the other sites to get their news. They are so slow..
lol wow, shes a cutie...Someone get the scouts there and get her signed...
I wouldn't have handled it that well either. I still can't believe it. You know now there will be another big deal out of replay in baseball now...
That was sooo bad, The ump will be known for one of the worst calls in MLB History. Did you see the play. The pitcher handled it like a Pro. He just smiled at the ump like you have to be kidding me.
Imagine being a O's fan. Here it is the 1st week of June and you are already 19.5 games out of 1st place. Think they could hire Ronold McDonold to do a better job there....
Think he would put him in for a inning. Then he would pull him.
It is a shame how much he got hurt and how many games he missed. Imagine on top of the great numbers he has had, him having even better numbers.
Jumping ahead a bit, a team I said you have to watch would be the Braves the last we talked. Hope they fall because they will want to send Bobby Cox out on top if they are close to being able to do so. You don't want to see them as shoppers at the trading deadline.
That was their lucky charm. I wonder how much magic that squirrl has left..lol
My youngest sons 1st game he ever went to was June 24th, 2006, Old Timers Day at Yankee stadium. Rained out, torrential downpours. He remembers it just as much as if he saw the game. He was 9 then. Since then he has seen probably 10 games. 9 at Yankee stadium and 1 at Shea against the Yankees. He still talks about that 1st time he went and how hard it rained and people dancing in the rain...lol go figure huh..
I think it is to early to tell what he is going to be. He probably has some polishing up to do but that is some fastball he has. He tried to set up his breaking ball with so many fastballs but the breaking ball went to high or got away from him. I would like to see what else he has. I would not be surprised if they try to groom him into a starter. He looks like he has some great potential.
Where did you guys get that kid from? 20 years old and throwing like that? wow... That kid keeps his head on straight he is going to be a force.
That is really funny. I have thought about that, what does some kid who just came up say out there on the mound?..lol Well now I got my answer..lol
I liked Cervelli when he came up last year. He had nothing to lose and they didn't expect alot from him and they ended up being very surprised by him. He brings alot of energy to the team.
People went to Toronto to see a baseball game and a football game broke out. wow...15-10 right now
Thats the nice thing about baseball. You can get beat 20-0 or 1-0. It is still a loss and tomorrow is another day in most cases. A team that wins 100 games is considered a good year still loses 62 games. Twins are a good solid team.
Poor judgement by Twins manager. A-Rod was 4 for 6 against that guy and 3 of them homers. I couldn't believe that. Well he made them pay for it. Shame cause Baker pitched a real good game for the Twins.
Phil Hughes is pitching like they thought he would. I still say they started him to young and he was just overthrowing thinking he had to shoulder the load. He is more mature now and looks good. Overall in the short career he has had in the Majors and 78 games he has appeared in his career ERA is 3.73 Not bad considering he had that really bloated 6.62 in 2008
AJ almost got out of that inning lucky. They were due to breakout in a inning.
No, you can be considered a success by winning the WC. I definitly am not sold on San Diego. I feel they will fall and the Dodgers will rise. I think Atlanta is going to make a push soon. They have a deplorable road record right now and I don't expect that to continue. I also expect the Braves to be very active before the trading deadline in a attempt to send Cox out as a winner. They will hurt the Mets chances.
Yes, your right, they were not playing good ball when Willie was fired. But lets not forget Willie was manager when 83-79 Willies 1st year and 2nd year they were 97-65 then 88-74 They won alot more than they lost when Willie was there. They have done nothing since. I don't think Manuel has had a fair shot at being the manager with Omar around. I think they should be better than they are but Philies are going to catch fire and they are going to leave the Mets in the dust when they do. I don't agree that Manuel is a better manager but I could very well be wrong. But with that said I don't feel that Manuel can show his true potential good or bad as long as Omar is the GM.
It was deplorable how it was handled. He did it the cowards way. If your going to do it you stand up and be a adult and right or wrong you stand by your decision. They go on a road trip, they win the 1st game of the road trip and then you fire your manager? The time has come that Omar can't keep blaming it on everyone else.
For 2 years I have been saying Omar should be fired. Not only that, he should be tarred and feathered and run out of town for what he has done to the Mets. It is not like he has had only 2 months or 2 weeks to put a productive team on the field. Willie was a much beter manager than you think he was. Willie was able to get the most out of what he had to work with.
He did seem frustrated on the mound. I wondred myself. Not just because he is on the Red Sox.. But he had a couple pitches that were right over the plate that were called balls.I would not be surprised if a few of those pitches had purpose. The game was already starting to get out of hand for Beckett. I would not put it past him to have his own pitty party on the mound by throwing at the batters. Thats Josh Beckett...
Rofl I am driving in my car and thought OMG I think I put Cecil instead of Prince. So I pulled over so I could correct it
LOL

One thing I always hated was when you have a play like that in a playoff game. Not that it is ok during the season but these games are important. I would rather they use instant replay and take a extra minute to get it right. Yes it takes the human element out of the game but these games are to important.
Wow, look out, them there Joe Torre Dodgers are moving on to the next round. If Yankees can move on I can see the story lines already.
It was a good game. Twins pitched great and thought they had us. Last years A-Rod would have whiffed. Was a tough game to lose but Twins put up a hell of a fight.
wow, what a shame, Such a poor sport, oh well. Not everyone can be happy in life. Well, good luck anyway...
Sniffle... Burk would be so proud!!!! em
Papelbon is such a tool. Gets Fined for Slow Play
CHICAGO (AP) -- Boston Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon has been fined again for slowing down games.
Papelbon was fined $5,000 by Major League Baseball for taking too long to throw his first pitch. A new rule allows pitchers 2 minutes, 20 seconds from the final out of the previous inning to the first pitch. They get 12 seconds to throw once the batter steps into the box.
The fine was first reported by the Boston Herald. Papelbon was fined previously this season.
"After this, I don't know, man," Papelbon told the paper. "I think they're going to call my parole officer and put me away."
Papelbon has 34 saves in 37 opportunities this season, with a 1.84 ERA.
