No, Russia is not back to where they once were -- but then again, neither are we. Not by a long shot if you look at our economy and our president. At the moment, they appear to be on the rise in the world and we appear to be on a downward path under obama.
What I am saying is to keep an eye on Russia. Scripture contains prophesies that Russia will be a major player in the end times. To date, no prophesy of Scripture has been in error and they have always been literally fulfilled. I see no reason to think that Biblical prophesy about Russia's future will be any different.
Personally, I believe that we are very near the end times. I could be wrong, but that is my opinion. If I am correct, Russia will continue to rebuild and also will continue to rebuild its ties with the arab/islamic world.

No, that was not a miracle. It was pure and cynical politics, nothing more. A dog and pony show, using his supposed "christianity" in the same way the clintons used to use it, toting a 30 lb "ultra large size" Bible to be sure that everyone saw it.
Actually, it was also disgusting, but very predictable coming from obama - who is most assuredly not a Christian in the true, Biblical meaning of the word.

That is exactly what I was talking about -- someone "forcing" another person to "become a Christian" can claim all he wants that he is doing it in the name of God. The fact is that he is not.
As I noted in my previous post, no one can be "forced" to become a Christian. Accepting Christ as one's Lord and Savior (the sole Biblical criteria for becoming a Christian) is a personal and totally voluntary decision. No one can force another to be a Christian, and anyone who attempts to force another to become a "Christian" is committing a grave sin against God.

When the Soviet Union collapsed and apparently became a third world power with nukes, people laughed at me when I said that based on Scripture, Russia would soon reemerge as a world power.
They no longer find it so amusing.
It is interesting to note that the Bible prophesies in Ezekiel 38-39 and some other places (like Daniel 11) that Russia (Magog, which lies to the uttermost north of Israel, plus Meshech, and Tubal and many of the various "-stans") will lead an assault on the regathered nation of Israel in the end times. Some of its allies will be Persia (modern Iran), Cush(Ethiopia), Put (Libya), Gomer (mostly modern Turkey), and Beth-togarmah (parts of Turkey, Armenia, and the Turkish-speaking people of Asia Minor).
This event will apparently occur at some point in the first half of the Tribulation era, when Israel is living in peace (a land of unwalled cities), although it is possible that it will occur just before the Tribulation.
By the way, they lose. Their armies are supernaturally destroyed by God.

Despite what some fool may claim as their motive, people who murder abortion doctors are no more "killing in the name of God" than the abortion doctors themselves are murdering helpless babies in the name of God. Murder is high on God's top ten list of sins, so anyone who murders is not doing it for God. Murder is never condoned or approved of by God.
There is nothing in the Bible that condones or even even hints that it is acceptable to harm in any way someone just because they do not accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior. It is literally impossible to force a person to become a Christian. A person under duress may claim to be a Christian, but both the person and, far more importantly, God would know that it is a lie.
It would be a great sin to attempt to force a person to become a "Christian". To the contrary, we are told that we are to love our enemies.
Biblical Christianity never encourages or approves of forcing anyone to become a Christian. That is because, by definition, a person can only become a Christian voluntarily because Christianity is a personal relationship between an individual person and God, mediated by accepting Jesus as that person's personal Lord and Savior.
The same cannot be said about the koran. The koran actively approves the murder of any infidel -- it is explicitly ok to murder anyone who does not accept and worship their idol, allah, especially Jews and Christians.
The koran also says it is a good thing to lie to an infidel. Yet we seek to negotiate with these people and foolishly intend to rely on what they tell us even though their "religion" encourages lying to infidels "in the name of allah".
The koran also calls for islam to subjugate the world by force and for all the world to be ruled by sharia law.
Is that what we want?? Is islam really a "religion of peace"?

"while the far left is supporting a terroist victory by supporting the Muslim Center being built on ground that was hit by the Muslim Extremeist attack on 9-11, the nut jobs that contiue to disgrace the memort of the 9-11 victims with conspiracy theories reside on both fringes."
I agree. For the life of me I cannot understand the mentality of those who believe in the various 9/11 conspiracy theories. It is a mental disease of some sort, that manifests itself in these theories despite both the totally illogical nature of them and the scientific proof that they are wrong. Amazing.
There was a conspiracy on 9/11 -- it was a conspiracy between a number of islamic terrorists to attack the US and take down the twin towers, a symbol of our country, to attack the Pentagon, the center of our military, and to take out one of our centers of Government, probably either the White House or the Capitol Building.
That was the only conspiracy on 9/11. For islamic terrorists to attack America.
To allow those same people to erect a "victory" monument at the site of their abomination against us to honor the success of that attack is deplorable, at best.
There is no difference between their attack on us and the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. Would we have allowed the Japanese to build a Shinto Shrine at Pearl Harbor in 1951?? Would we even allow it now, when Japan is one of our allies??
The left wing liberals who hate America and all it stands for are the ones who want to use our freedoms against us. I did not hear them promoting freedom of religion and freedom of speech when the moron in Florida wanted to publicly burn the koran.

What can I say -- I am jealous <gg>.
The only church I would rather attend would be that of John MacArthur.
Swindoll is a very gifted teacher. He was my first introduction to the teaching out of Dallas Theological Seminary, and I have learned very much at the feet of Dr Swindoll, Dr Walvoord, Dr Ryrie, Dr Tony Evans, Dr David Jeremiah, and others there. Quite a fine institution for teaching the Word of God.

I was in my pastor's office this afternoon and the conversation got around to this "pastor" and his foolish plan. My pastor tried to call him at both home and at work (the church) to tell him that his proposed burning of the koran was wrong from a Biblical viewpoint, and to suggest that he change his mind. Unfortunately, we could not get through -- his home phone had been disconnected and the church phone was constantly busy for about half an hour, after which we gave up.
I am thankful to hear that he changed his mind anyway.
Actually, I am sure that a phone call would not have changed his mind, but we thought that if we were one of many phone calls that he got on the subject, perhaps we could have made a difference.

At the moment, alternative energy and "green products" are not ready for prime time, if they ever will be. They are not now economically feasable.
I think that at the present stage of development, they mostly line the pockets of friends of al gore and the democratic party. They should be introduced and integrated into the economy only after a great deal more improvement.
I support research on them, but our taxpayer money would be far better spent on nuclear infrastructure.

Your point is valid -- without the rich, there could be no middle class.
But beyond that, the new strata of corporate "rich" of America (the elite top levels of corporate management), have been overcome by their greed, and by their greed they are choking out the middle class in order to benefit themselves in an obscene manner.
All the workers of any company are those without whom the company would not exist and they are the source of all the company's profits. These are all the manual laborers, factory workers, accountants, sales people, engineers, designers, etc. -- they are the ones who actually make things and do things, and they are the source of all the productivity of the company.
If you look throughout our economic history, as corporate earnings have risen, so have the wages of these workers who do the actual labor, including both the blue and the white collar workers. If you were to look at it on a graph, average corporate earnings would show an uneven, but steady rise over time in our economic history. For most of that time, the average earnings of the workers of those companies (both blue collar and white) rose a little slower, but overall their earnings had maintained a reasonable relationship with corporate earnings. The top management was compensated more highly, but within reason, given their place at the top of the corporate food chain. The big beneficiaries of higher profits were the owners -- the shareholders of the company. That is how it should be, for they are the people who own the company and whose investments are at risk.
In the past 25 or 30 years, though, the average corporate earnings have steepened the curve, while the average earnings of the workers have slowed down, most recently to an almost flat rate, and the difference between the two has not stayed in the corporation to increase shareholders (the owners) equity -- instead, all this extra profit has been plowed into the pockets of the top management of the companies of the companies. What we are seeing is the legalized looting of corporate America by a gang of ultra white collar thieves, driven by greed.
This ever widening disparity of earnings between the management and the workers (and with the shareholders only marginally participating) has resulted in previously unheard of levels of bonuses every year amounting from the tens of millions to approaching the hundreds of millions annually for individual top level managers. The disparity between the income of the blue and white collar workers of a company and the top level of management is far beyond anything even conceivable in the past.
This small cadre of elite level managers are stealing from both the workers and the shareholders (the owners of the company). It is creating a new class of fabulously wealthy people who "earned" their money not by entrepreneurship (the traditional road to great wealth), but by working in collusion with weak boards of directors to loot the company profits.
Such an enormous economic disparity between the workers and the elite wealthy of any nation is the stuff from which revolutions arise -- remember the French and the Russian revolutions. The huge gap between the "haves" and the ordinary people was the driving force in pre-revolutionary France where the rich lived lives of luxury and extravagance while the workers had little -- Marie Antoinette famously said of the poor, "let them eat cake". A society (especially in a democratic republic like our own), cannot long support the kind of disparity of income we now see in corporate America before the "average guy", the blue and white collar workers of corporate America gets angry enough to explode in revolution, and that is especially true when an increasingly Socialist/Marxist style government is soaking all the people, especially the white collar middle class workers, with ever rising tax burdens.
The middle class has always been the backbone of any society, but today the very existence of the middle class in America is in jeopardy. Hopefully, it will be a peaceful revolution led by the workers combined with the shareholders to rid the system of the gangs of thieves who are looting the corporations for their own benefit. That way, the workers will return to getting a fair share of corporate earnings, the top management will get paid fairly, commensurate with their positions, and the shareholders (owners) will get the rest.
If not, the ramifications could be more dire.

If the American people ever want to have even a chance of survival as the unique, great nation that it has been in the past, they are going to have to stop thinking in terms of "Republicans" and "Democrats". Instead, they must begin voting to elect individuals who are committed to honesty, integrity, and solving our problems. We cannot vote for a particular party, because both parties are corrupt and have totally lost sight of what they have been sent to congress to do.
The effort to save our nation means throwing out most of the individuals now in congress who are dishonest, worthless fools who put their personal wealth and their reelection prospects first, their "party" second, and their personal ideological agenda third, with no thought whatsoever given to the good of the nation as a whole or the good of the people that elected them.
Without getting rid of all these cancers on our nation, we do not have a chance of national survival. Time is of the essence, and it may well already be too late. But we have to try, for the sake of our children.

I must say -- and it is a very rare thing -- in this case I agree with the pope. Black liberation theology (as are all the various forms of "liberation theology") is a marxist religious cult that is demonic in its origins.

Depending on how much you have (and I am relying on memory), your funds in an account at most brokerages are guaranteed by the SIPC up to $500,000 -- for what that is worth. Bank accounts are covered up to $250,000 if I remember correctly, and you can increase that coverage by keeping funds in differently titled accounts (Banks) and you should break up large amounts by carrying your funds at more than one brokerage and more than one bank. I would keep excess funds in Treasuries (in your name, not street name) rather than banks -- getting your money from both FDIC and SPIC can take a while.
The problem comes in what you call the "s___ hitting the fan". The kind of trouble that this country may be facing may make that kind of "security" pretty much worthless -- you may get your money back, but it may be pretty much worthless.
The only investments that would carry some worth at that point are tangible ones -- gold, land, etc., but even those might not be of any real help. I would suggest that everyone should have some gold on hand just in case.
The only sure thing is to place your trust in God.

Even if the American people wake up and take over both houses of congress (not a sure thing, by any means), we still will have the threat of the lame duck session between the election and the seating of the new congress.
The dems could still do a lot of permanent damage during that period, cramming new far left agenda packages down our throats. obama will certainly sign anything they are able to pass into law, and the new congress would be powerless to do anything about it even after they are sworn in, for anything they pass to cancel out the leftist agenda will just be vetoed by obama.
We should all be very afraid of that.

A 12 year old does not have a well developed sense of right and wrong, especially if he has not had proper parental guidance as he was growing up. The fact that this kid was out on the street selling beer is pretty conclusive proof that his upbringing was sorely lacking in that area, and probably in all other areas as well.
So I beg to differ with you -- it is his parents who need to "be slapped right across" their face.

Just a point of clarification.
If you read the establishment clause of the Constitution, the individual states are not precluded from having a state religion -- only the federal government was precluded from doing so. It was not until after the 14th amendment was passed (1868) that the Supreme Court ruled that the prohibition was applicable to the individual states, and by that time it was not a problem.
While the prohibition by the Constitution of the establishment of a state religion is a good rule, the means by which it became part of our legal system is probably bad law due to the overly broad application of the 14th amendment. It would have been better to make that prohibition a separate Amendment to the Constitution, and as such it would have garnered overwhelming support.
The purpose of the establishment clause has also been warped by various USSC rulings. There is no "wall of separation between church and state" in the language of Constitution, nor was that an intent of the authors of the Constitution. It is an idea that is being used to erase God from our public discourse, a notion that would have found zero support from the framers.
