May1Sep2...
I think I've read so many posts, close to all of them that I miss some sometimes. Those were good. Also Wave typically doesn't go more than 3 weeks in between product announcements, partner announcements or demonstrations. We're over a month now. Somethings cooking...IMO.
ZZT-Bone RE: Seagate/Dell
I think everyone hear would have liked an announcement on June 8th and that would have been very, very soon. The Seagate CEO just came out of the wood work a few days ago in CNET article and said, "Clearly, something must be done before one of these breaches bankrupts a company or threatens national security." He basically beat up on software encryption and the tone of the article was as if Seagate (or full-disc-encryption) is coming to help fix the problem. I'd say that is a pretty good sign!
In a June Seagate article that helpfulbacteria posted there was this: Such devices, encrypting disk drives, are now being mass-produced after a period of sampling. Manufacturers are deploying them by large numbers in laptops, desktop PCs, data-center applications, portable media players, and TV broadcast video recorders.
Movement has begun IMO.
One other thing to think about: SKS had this to say in the 1st quarter cc, "I think we'll see the beginning of any volume that comes from the market in Q3 and Q4." From this statement it doesn't sound like Dell/Seagate in the 2nd quarter.
Just like most everyone out here I remain AWW as well.
(Another Wavoid Waiting)
Wave Fan-
I like your find, but I thought this had already been on Dell for awhile. But this may be new. Why would you be bring this up? Did this show up as new on the website and/or are you intrigued by the KTM and its potential.
Wave Fan-
The KTM wasn't really discussed in the SHM. I think that is what you are referring to. After the KTM server is sold I believe there is an 18 percent fee for it. I'm not exactly sure how that all works. As far as how it relates to Seagate and the FDE drive it would seem like almost a critical piece to corporation or government implementing these drives.
I'm sure there are more Wavoids on the board who know the ins and outs of KTM and its future.
Oknpv- Thank you for your efforts...
Helpfulbacteria - Thank you very much... Those were some very interesting nuggets.
VH- Equity research for sale:
Thank you. Isn't it amazing that 50 million TPM's were shipped last year and Wall St doesn't know what's going on. You would have thought that someone would have told someone something. Well, the Wavoids know. Thanks again.
Here is a neat video:
Go to: http://shop.lenovo.com/us/notebooks
Click on 'Why by a Thinkpad notebook?'
Go to the little TV screen that says Lenovo Vision and click on 'Why buy Lenovo?' I just thought it was interesting.
Thats it!...
I didn't explain my self real well but I remembered Willett talking about key management and Seagate get pennies...On page 5.
I thought this was an excellent article. No outstanding! IMO of course. Thank you very much. BTW, I hope those blanks start showing some new computer companies in the very, very, very, very, very, very near future. One can dream....
Wildman262... Thank you, that was the best chuckle I had today.
May1sep1...
This article was before the first big launch. It was an interview with someone like Mike Willett and I believe they talked about Wave and Seagate making money off the harddrive. Somehow they used Wave software or server device. I just remember it being an excellent article. I know it was 3 or 4 pages. Thanks.
BTW, any idea on where Dell/Seagate is? That is the 64 million dollar question. I thought very, very very soon would have been yesterday. Oh well.
Seagate article...
Does anybody have that 4 page article where someone was interviewed from Seagate throughout about FDE? It was several months back and at one point in the article I believe they talked about partitioning on a disc and both Wave and Seagate would share in the revenue. It was very interesting. If there is anyone who could provide that link I'd greatly appreciate it.
TIA
Boom..On secude-I'm pretty sure that only Wave's software (TDM and tools) works with a PC that has a TPM. I think Secude is saying their software works with both software and hardware encryption. All of Dell's Latitudes come with TPM so I don't think Secude will compete there. I'm sure others will be able to give you a more complete explanation.
Thanks Matt and Micro: Question on Core 2 Duos- Does anyone know how many Core 2 Duos were sold since July of last year? It was just mentioned that Quad core sold 1 million. It seems like they're the only processor(core 2 duo) now (pratically).
I really like this quote from micro's post, "I have also googled all the main motherboard makers. I found TPM's being included on some motherboards on just about all of them. Bottom line: The motherboard makers are all starting to include a TPM onto the motherboards. TPM's are becoming ubiquitous." Thanks Micro.
Thank you for your input Go-kite...
I'm not sure if the service for what they are offering is for free, but its things this that make you wonder about how much time, money and client/company aggravation could be avoided if things were done right in the first place.
Here is an interesting letter from IBM to someone I know. It indirectly relates to Wave.
Dear XXXX,
We are writing because of an incident that has resulted in the loss of information relating to your IBM employment, and we wanted to inform you about what happened and explain steps IBM is taking to help 'protect' you.
Recently, data tapes were lost while being transported by a vendor. Those tapes contained primarily archival IBM employment-related information, including Social Security numbers. After a thorough investigation of the incident, we have concluded that the tape loss was inadvertant and not associated with theft or any other unlawful activity. We have no indication that the personal information on the missing tapes which are not the type that can be read by a personal computer, has been accessed or has been used to any improper purpose. Nevertheless, IBM takes any loss of personal data very seriously and has taken steps to help protect you and your data.
As a result, we have arranged to provide you with the ID TheftSmart Enhanced Identity Theft Restoration and Continuous Credit Monitoring program from Kroll Inc. ID TheftSmart is one of the most comprehensive programs available to help protect your name and credit against identity theft.
Bla, Bla, bla, bla for a couple more paragraphs.
Has anyone ever received anything like this? I think it despicable. This sh** shouldn't happen, plain and simple.
If anyone has any suggestions as to what this person might do I'd really appreciate it.
I'm sure the same thing happens when a laptop get stolen except in the not too distant future there will be no excuse. Laptops, tapes, personal information. PROTECT IT!!!!
May1Sep2 Thank you
Oknpv, thank you too.
May1Sep2,
It certainly looks like this just adds to the FDE marketing ammo in a major way. Nice find.
Stock options - Kant...
If I was Lark Allen or another key employee within Wave and the company just got this new options package approved why would I want to buy more shares of Wave. If many of these key employees get rich options packages why would they want to buy more shares of Wave? Plus if one of the key employees or employees buys a bunch of Wave on their own aren't they subject to insider trading laws. This is just MHO.
Announcement...A little confusion on my part.
I was maybe thinking that they'd be selling the drives through Dell very, very, soon. Thats what I had on my mind more than an announcement. I guess I missed that. If Dell has the first mover advantage with it Premier accounts, I thought, sell as many as you can as fast as you can while the market is waiting for an announcement. I'm sure we'll know one way or another soon enough.
Dell/Seagate announcement?? Dell Premier...
Will there be a Dell/Seagate announcement? Dell already announced the new Latitude's with an optional encrypted hard drive. It certainly would be nice.
One interesting point that SKS made in the SHM was that the optional drive would show up under the 'Dell premier' section. We would not see it under the regular place on the website. Another words where everyone has been looking to see it as an option will not find it there.
xxxx- just so you know..
I've seen Gateway in the OEM Spotlight for a couple of days now. Nice to see. Thanks for the 630 Latitude Review.
Helpfulbacteria- Thank you for the tips before I went to the SHM. I appreciate them. I don't have a lot of concrete things to say that haven't already been said. But I have some impressionistic things to say. SKS was phenomenal. He is a leader...Enough said. After attending the meeting and reading about the meeting I would say that your tee-bu-dough launch was an excellent characterization of whats on the horizon. I think when you've been a Wave investor for years a good portion of your mind thinks what could go wrong this time. I didn't get those vibes from the meeting. Again, I could be wrong; afterall I'm a wavoid.

TKC Re: ASM
I'm not saying I know for sure that the price is going to rise after Friday, but... Wave was clearly saying that Seagate/Dell was happening 'very soon' and I believe there is obvious pent up demand for the product. Without Wave's software and tools to manage the drive the product sucks. (IMO of course) If you were Wave and could get the rock bottom strike price before news came out would you...After all the stockholders voted for it. This is my thought: Once people get hold of information regarding how the Seagate FDE/Dell is selling then Wave has the momentum. How this plays out is anybody's guess, but I think things are going to start kicking into gear afterall SKS said that the train is rolling down the tracks....
And what is Lenovo going to do with the Seagate FDE and they need Wave's products. Its not just Dell... The future should be interesting to say the least.
ASM....
This was my first Annual Meeting and I was so glad that I made the trip down. It was great to meet Weby and Awk and a few others. I was thoroughly impressed with SKS. That was my first time seeing him live in 7 years that I owned the stock. I walked away much more comfortable about this investment. I didn't get a chance to talk with the rest of management, but SKS is going to be a winner and lead this company going forward to new heights (of course IMHO)
One line that was said about Seagate FDE space I thought was sending a message," We think this is one of the most 'amazing' opportunities. (emphasis on amazing) Sounds good to me. I can't say enough on how Seagate FDE was emphasized and talked about.
SKS talked about the 'Gold Rush' TPM's are the Gold and there has to be a supplier of shovel, picks etc to get the gold. In that same sense Wave is the TPM software supplier to make it all work. I thought that was an interesting analogy.
Maybe since I have not been to any ASM's prior to this where things seem real good and then we wait another year. I have more of a bias toward the positive. I think Wave's future market position is going to be phenomenal. With the strike price of the options set on Friday (I believe) let the games begin...
At the ASM...
Did anyone hear SKS say that the FDE drives with Wave's software don't run well when there is an Infineon chip. I did...
ASM- The last post I corrected got lost.
So let me just say this. SKS is a genius.
xxxx-
Is the equivalent drive to the Seagate 5400 FDE.2? Maybe Dell and Lenovo don't want just Seagate when they start selling their drives.
May1Sep2
Thank you for checking. I'm sure we'll know soon enough. I'll bet there is a lot of things going on behind the scenes that we don't know about. Hope to see you at the ASM if you are going.

Ordering from Dell-
I got the information that I needed in that Dell should be available in June. Your e-mail just further corroborates that. Now since I am not ordering one (yet anyways) I won't spend their time when they could be taking TONS of orders for the Seagate drive:) I'm sure you are not the only one who got an e-mail and those people will be calling in today. Also, I read on Lenovo's website that the planned availability date for the encrypted drive was today June 5 (Worldwide, BTW). Please let me know or the board know what you find out with your order from DELL. Thank you very much.
Awk- 'The Nuggets'
Awk, I went back and read some of your previous posts that I had read before but somehow forgotten. In reading them this time around, while I am very technically challenged I learned a tremendous amount. There are a lot of Wavoids who provide a tremendous amount of great information, but I would just like to Thank you for all of your efforts. Thank you very much.

Awk-
I admit that I am one that needs things spelled out but I'm sure there are others as well. Can you explain that and its signficance? Thanks
OT-June Smart Computing Article on Seagate 5400 FDE
I can't find a link for this article but I found a half page (at the very beginning) of Smart Computing on the Seagate 5400 FDE. There was no mention of Wave but it did compare software encryption to the Seagate hardware encryption. The title of the article was 'Encrypting Drive Takes No Chances.' I've been looking through all of the major Computer magazines and this was the first time I spotted the encrypted hard drive. Just nice to see this. All positive. I'm sure we'll hear more in the near future.
I did like this one line,'Known as full disc encryption, this technology is considered more secure than software-based encryption because the keys and encryption functions reside on the drive and don't interact with the operating system.'
Thank you Whitewash!
OT-Dell/Boeing commercial
I was watching the Yankees/Redsox game on FOX and I just saw a DELL/Boeing commercial. I know this was brought up yesterday, but it looks like Boeing is really endorsing Dell in a commercial. Pretty cool. I wonder if Dell has been advising Boeing about the upcoming encrypted drives in the Latitude line. Interesting.
Wavxmaster: I was also wondering where you were, also. I live in Conn. too.
IBM and the FDE drive...
I just read that the announce date for the FDE drive on the Thinkpad was 5/31/07. I guess I missed that. The planned availability date is 6/5/07 (Worldwide). The web page this was on was last updated 5/31/07.
This was for Thinkpad 160GB FDE 5400RPM.
Awk- Thank you for that information.
Wildman262-
I must say this has been the most frustrating and exciting experience at the same time. You may not have read this post but it was from telstarjohn a couple of weeks ago. Its post 144965. I thought that it was encouraging.

Dell FDE ship date...
I have heard an available date for the Seagate drive with Dell on June 11. Awk, you had mentioned a ship date from last week. The Dell rep I spoke was with Small business so I'm not sure if the date was solely for small business. Anybody who has information on when Dell ships FDE would be greatly appreciated.
TPM's shipped to date...50 million.
Is that 50 million from the beginning of this year or total. Last year was 50 million, the year prior was 20 million and this year is slated to be over 100 million. Why couldn't they have said 100+ million have been shipped so far or do I have my data wrong.
