DJ Hot Stocks On Wall $treet Week With Fortune
By Michelle Rama
Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES
NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--The following companies were mentioned during the Friday, Oct. 24 airing of "Wall $treet Week With Fortune" on PBS.
Pfizer (PFE); General Electric (GE); Bank of America
(BAC); Citigroup (C); Wells Fargo (WFC); Nokia (NOK);
Eastman Kodak (EK); American International Group (AIG)
Michael Farr of Miller & Washington expects earnings to improve, as information technology companies experience greater end-market demand.
Despite the recent pause in the market rally, "the trend is up," Farr said. "Don't fight that trend."
Right now, he likes Pfizer and General Electric stocks, because they haven't moved much higher in several months and still have good earnings. Both have dividends of 2%, he noted.
He also likes Banc of America, because it's trading at "11 or 12 times next year's earnings, paying a 4% dividend. For me there's money to make there."
Farr also likes Citigroup, Wells Fargo and American International Group.
He currently wouldn't buy Eastman Kodak, but said "People that are patient with Kodak are probably going to do fine. I probably just am not as patient."
Farr also prefers Nokia over Motorola, saying his firm owns Nokia, but sold the other telecom company. Nokia has 39% market share in mobile phones compared to Motorola's 16%, he said. Nokia also has higher profit margins than Motorola, he added.
Nextel Communications Inc. (NXTL); Motorola (MOT);
Cephalon Inc. (CEPH); Providian Financial (PVN); Eastman
Kodak (EK)
Joan Lappin, a fund manager at Gramercy Capital Management, echoed Farr's view that the market is on an upswing.
"I believe we're in a stock-picker's environment, and the people with good analytical skills who can pick and choose well are the ones that are thriving now and will thrive," Lappin said.
Both she and Farr also agreed that the bond market can wreak huge losses for investors once interest rates rise.
Lappin sees Eastman Kodak moving in the right direction in order to plug up the sales that digital photography has siphoned from the company's film business. She said the company's dividend cut is a necessary step toward building a digital business and keeping sales from dropping 25% to 30%.
Among Lappin's favorite stocks are Nextel and Providian. She has a $20 price target on Providian and said earnings in 2004 could double from this year.
Nextel is a top pick because it was able to move swiftly into profitability and pay down its debt. At the same time, the Federal Communications Commission's "clearing the 800 band" gave the company a lot of bandwidth to increase its network size in the future.
Nextel recently told Lappin that even if it has no growth next year, it will earn close to $1.80 to $2. "That's too cheap for what seems to be the leader in wireless telephony," she said.
Meanwhile, Lappin prefers Motorola to Nokia, saying "people look at Nokia as a last cycle, big winner. I have no problem with the company. It's just that stock is not going to run and make you the kind of money it did. I look at Motorola and say, been down so long, looks like up to me."
Her other top pick is Cephalon, which makes Provigil, a drug for people with a sleep disorder called narcolepsy. Provigil, she predicts, has the potential to be a $1 billion drug because it received an expanded label for use to help night-shift workers stay awake.
Chiquita Brands International (CQB); Performance Food
Goup Co. (PFGC)
Heather Jones, analyst at BB&T Capital Markets, likes Chiquita because Americans are eating healthier. Bananas, which are Chiquita's largest business, are the most consumed fruit, she noted. Jones also expects Chiquita to benefit from the strengthening euro.
Another large company that will benefit from the trend is Performance Food Group, whose fresh cut fruit and salad categories should boost growth at the company.

DJ Hot Stocks On Louis Rukeyser's Wall Street
By Michelle Rama
Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES
NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--The following companies were mentioned during the Friday, Oct. 24 airing of "Louis Rukeyser's Wall Street" on CNBC:
Kellogg Co. (K); Gillette Co. (G); United Parcel Service
(UPS); Honeywell International Inc. (HON)
The market needs time to pull back after a bull-run of several months, said Frank Cappiello of McCullough, Andrews & Cappiello. The correction is natural, as people worry about stock prices having risen too far to soon, he said.
Cappiello would sell consumer staples, like Kellogg and Gillette, saying "they aren't going to do much in the second phase of the bull market."
Instead, he recommends buying United Parcel Service, since more packages will be shipped as the economy curves upward.
Honeywell is another Dow Jones Industrial Average component that has a lot of value.
Cappiello recalls General Electric's $56-a-share bid for the company three years ago, whereas Honeywell is now trading at about $27. Cappiello doesn't expect the stock to return to that level, but "I still think there's that residual value that GE saw."
Cappiello owns all of the stocks he mentioned.
American International Group Inc. (AIG); Watson
Pharmaceuticals Inc. (WPI); First Health Group Co.
(FHCC); Statoil ASA (STO)
The Nasdaq is at the beginning of a 10% to 15% correction, according to Louis Holland of Holland Capital Management. "Earnings are mediocre relative to valuation," he said. But following the correction, Holland predicts a rally into year-end and a "20% to 25%-plus year for the stock market."
His top picks include financial-services, healthcare and some technology stocks because they "are the only areas of the market growing double-digit."
Among them is AIG, which has been able to increase prices, and is no longer "bleeding" from claim payouts. The stock is trading at the company's growth rate, and the company's management is "pristine," Holland said.
Watson Pharmaceuticals and First Health Group Co. are his top healthcare picks. In energy, he likes Norwegian Statoil ASA (STO), all of whose stocks and American depositary receipts he owns.
Ingersoll-Rand Co. (IR); HCA Inc. (HCA); ConocoPhillips
(COP)
Nicholas Sargen, chief investment strategist at Fort Washington Investment Advisors, hopes to see businesses stepping up spending and hiring, aiding the consumer who has been driving the economy higher.
Cyclicals, energy and healthcare companies, which have had very good profits and increased cashflow, will be putting their resources to work by doing just that, Sargen predicts.
He is buying Ingersoll Rand Co., which is positioned to benefit from a weaker dollar and an uptick in industry. HCA Inc. "has the potential to hand out a dividend," beginning next year, he said.
He expects ConocoPhillips to benefit from the higher oil prices.
But, if U.S. Treasury Secretary John Snow is right and the stronger economy pushes interest rates higher, Sargen sees technology, consumer discretionaries, and financials to "cool off." Technology is up 80% on the year, while consumer discretionaries and financials are up 40% to 50% on the year, Sargen said. Consequently, He would lighten positions in those sectors, such as department stores in the consumer discretionary area, which would be hurt if rates were to move higher.
Sargen owns all the stocks he mentioned during the program.
Corinthian Colleges Inc. (COCO), Omnivision Technologies
Inc. (OVTI), Sandisk Corp. (SNDK); Eresearch Technology
Inc. (ERES); Netease.com Inc. (NTES)
The current investment environment is "very conducive to making money," particularly in small-cap stocks, according to Jim Collins, Insight Capital chief executive officer.
The recent market correction is a "good pause." However, He expects to see a strong rally, since the economy is doing well.
He is looking for earnings in small-cap stocks to be up about 200% next year, which will "get the stocks moving," he said.
Among the stocks Collins is buying right now are Corinthian Colleges Inc., Omnivision Technologies Inc., Sandisk Corp. and Eresearch Technology, as well as some Chinese Internet companies, one of which is Netease.com.
Those who invest in small-cap stocks can offset volatility by diversifying their asset allocation mix to include asset classes other than stocks, such as bonds, real estate and cash. Collins predicts the technology-laden Nasdaq index will reach 2700 in two to three years, or a 20% to 30%-a-year rise.

that was an unexpected pull back for me. with msgl recieving clearance for this SLICES technology, i would think the future of this company is not only bright, but could/should see msgl pps on the move up alot in the weeks and months ahead. so, i dont understand a 1/6th pullback. of course daytraders selling off could do that. pump/dump. but with a real company, as is msgl (imho) with a super product to offer the MRI arena, i would like to think many non-daytraders would get on board asap. surely this technology should make its way into medical pubs that discuss MRI technology, which will make radiologists, MRI manufacturers et al apprised of SLICES. today i recommended MSGL to s_tockprowler.com for thier pick of the month on november 2. im not spamming for them. i follow their picks each month and have made some big bucks. they have a huge following in the penny stock world. sevu was one of thier recent picks, i bought in at .055, and now it is at .49. a week or so ago it hit .70. thats a huge gain. so if anyone else here would like to see s_tockprowler.com pick msgl as the pick for november, go to their site (leave out the _ between the s and t), click on CONTACT US, then click on stock pick. its easy to do. if they get enough msgl recs, perhaps they will select it and that would really boost the pps (imho) in november. one other thing with the pullback today. earlier a poster said he saw on his chart that today there were alot more sellers than buyers. i dont have level II, but perhaps one of you boys (girls) have it and can share with us the buys and sells today, (at least the number of sells to buys). well let me go cook supper.
(Voluntary Disclosure: LT Rating- Strong Buy)
Viking and all..just wanted to officially welcome everybody..
we're getting the dust blew off this board fast..LOL..
Pittsburg, eh?..hmm..that thar is a fer piece from Chattanooga, TN..ain't it?..I'd kindly like to make it way up thar, but
Ima doubtin' I kin make it..LOL..
OK, OK I'll lose the Southern..but hoping we have a better day tomorrow.
dd
Wow..guys/or gals as the case may be..whazzup with the
3 post limit thing?..I get 18 a day..hmm..maybe they just start out brand new posters with 3..I guess. Has been awhile..I may have forgot that's how they do or something..
I know I'm not a 'preimium' member..don't pay for squat.
dd
One more post..then supper time..LOL..
I'll probably leave my somewhat MSGL DD page up on my Allstocks page the rest of the week...I have to do the work thing next 3 days...YUK!
FYI, I am a production Supv. at a Plastics plant and I work 3, off 3, 12 hr. shifts. 6AM~6PM..I am not a 'full time' trader/investor..
I can't quite give up the day job just yet..what with the medical ins. and the pretty good 401k plan we have but maybe by the first of the year I will be able to, I hope.

Check back later.

If you guys look at 2 year chart, MSGL has apparently
been $3 and $4 in the past..that's what I kind of look at..the big picture..
And with all the recent news and developments going for it NOW, I don't see why it can't be there again.
http://bigcharts.marketwatch.com/quickchart/quickchart.asp?symb=msgl&sid=0&o_symb=msgl&f...
dd
Frenz..as of today it's still a 1.01 high..
but that may change tomorrow or next day..
looks like a spike exactly one year ago..
http://bigcharts.marketwatch.com/quickchart/quickchart.asp?symb=msgl&sid=0&o_symb=msgl&x...
dd
Frenzicus..yes, not bad here at all..I'm a long time member of MMCLUB ( a trading club) on RB, even have my own trading board on RB..TTOP..
http://ragingbull.lycos.com/mboard/boards.cgi?board=TTOP
and I post frequently on about a dozen other RB boards..
but seems like RB in general screws up more and more..
and just when you need it too...
So most of us long time RB'ers are making the transition to this IHUB site. Just fed up with RB crashing alot..
A person can subscribe here and have lots more of bells and whistles..I have not done that yet, but I probably will soon.
All that said, I admit to being a 'trader'..but THIS MGSL is a GOOD one I firmly believe..Not promising, but I'm going to try to HOLD this one for a good long while.
dd
Clouser..I'm relatively new to IHUB myself..
IHUB probably has an ignore button..I've not needed one yet..
but I probably will when the 'bashers' show up..LOL..
dd
Jovan..I thought about selling too..
but the more I thought about it and how I've been in NXTI this year that went from .14 to over a dollar now, ECGI from 40¢ to over a dollar..the run I was in on AAC from .30 to over a dollar..hey, I doubled up on MSGL at .20..
Not worried a bit..too much good stuff going on with this company not to be a buck by the end of the year, IMO.
dd
Lycos RagingBull site in general is dying anyways..
Hundreds of the posters and traders I know from RagingBull over the last 5 years are all over here now on the various IHUB boards now. these boards all ways work..so far.
dave
RagingBull acting screwy this morning again..
will inform Raging Bull MSGL board of this board we can use as a back-up..
it should be our primary board anyways..
sure looks and works a helluva lot better!..
dave
I_like_bb..still holding my CWIR..
thinking it takes off soon also.
dd
Tim..every C note or two helps..
oh, I bailed on KIWI..small loss..whatever..
on with the hunt..
