OT: Women living longer. I have been researching this the past week and have read some interesting articles. Most convincing idea based on journal/university papers seems to be the role of iron on aging. After we finish growing, iron starts to accumulate in our body. Our body does not flush out iron (just like lead and mercury) and thus over time it builds to harmful levels. According to the research I have read, iron seems to be a large cause of Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and other mental age related diseases. Anyway, to make a long story short, women don't start accumulating iron in their body until after menopause. After menopause, women start to develop the same age-related diseases that men were getting years earlier. Papers also connect this to why vegetarians live longer (less iron/heavy metals in their diet) and why obese people live shorter lives (more iron in their bodies due to excess food consumption). Interesting... but probably just a small slice of what is really happening when we age.
OT to bigworld: Yes, I was just reading that. The PPHM ihub board is amazing for turning up significant information and even news before it is released. I am impressed that some would share what they know... in some cases it has to border on insider information. I have a nice holding and have bought more as it has been forced down, so hopefully it will all pay off one day. I'd actually like to buy a few thousand more if it keeps holding in the .90-1.00 range. Watching that stock has taught me a lot, and really shaped my view on stock investing. The manipulation is pretty sick, but it is interesting and somehow it makes me feel like I am part of something important... like the good guys will triumph in the end. lol.
You still hold any COR? That one has me very excited, especially the next two/three months. I feel very fortunate I had the opportunity to buy more at such low levels not too long ago. I could sell some now for a nice 70% profit, but I am holding for the FDA decision. Risky, but I think well worth it.
I'll definitely be careful climbing. Only a few more weeks until I attempt Mt. Whitney. I am actually pretty nervous because altitude kills me and this is my first time over 14,000ft.
Where are you at in Texas again? I am going to be in Houston (probably) within the next two months working for BP again. Cytogenix is one of my top places to visit on my list once I get there. I'd like to see the construction of the new building if it starts soon enough.
yeah, i saw that too. Im thinking the %1200 + would be better, though. Wouldnt you say?

MF4, I agree with you if you are only dealing with buying puts and calls, but option writing is also another aspect. So there is a chance, depending on different strategies (esp. uncovered/naked options), to lose more than you initially invest. Thus options in general can allow for both huge profits and huge losses.
Nice find sauce. I think people should listen to the newest interview with MS. Actually very informative. It does give me more confidence and reminds me that CYGX is sitting pretty well in my view. Once we get over the ex-CFO/COO mess, I will consider adding more.
I thought skooby was going to be leaving us for a while... that would be nice

so funny but wrong in so many ways
Hey arnold. No, I decided to put the call off because we got a monthly update that week... so I feel satisfied for now. Before I pester him any more I want to just see how the building and stuff turns out. I do have the questions still and plan to call him again, all in due time. Plus, I was gone the last three days backpacking so I haven't really had much time. Weekdays I work, and then weekends I am out doing stuff so I'm too busy to be fretting about MS and crew.
Sorry for the delay.
Yes, there are several different strategies one could use. I would be most likely interested in a straddle, that way I win regardless of what the FDA says. Chances are very very slim that the stock price will just stay level until August. I might also consider puts for insurance like you suggested.
Unfortunately I really have no idea. I am new to options and I dont fully understand when they are offered or other details. I just know that it would be a very nice opportunity for huge profits... or huge loses.
My strategy: sit and wait until the decision with what I have. So essentially 100% in right now. However, if August options become available, then I guess I will up it to 120% or something like that
Lehman Brothers Tenth Annual Global Healthcare Conference
I just listened to the conference and I recommend everyone to do the same. Webcast replay is found under investors link at www.bmrn.com. I will be giving a summary/update of the webcast within the week.
Cheers!
wow, intense forum today. Definitely playing with my emotions. One post makes me want to sell all right now, then the next I felt fine like I was holding an amazing stock. That means its time for me to go to bed... to just step back and let my emotions fade so I can think clearly tomorrow. Im calling MS.
lol, reading this just made me bust up laughing. Im not really sure why, because its not really that funny. Maybe its because things do really look bleak if you have the attitude of arnold. And maybe it's funny to me because despite the honestly bad outlook of things I am surprisingly positive and not worried...
BMRN Daily TA confirmations:
MACD just crossed zero (value is now positive)
STOICH just touch up to 50
BMRN weekly TA confirmations:
STOICH just passed up through 20 and is heading up through the red line
Conclusion:
Hope you all got in last week if you want to play this next ride up. Still might be time to get in now if you are playing long, but you have already missed some of the gains. Overall market definitely helping the situation. Cheers!
Isnt there a big chance that we will get a new CEO that no one has ever heard of? How will the market take that? Take a look at the new temp CFO... an ex casket gal. The new CEO will probably be an ex cremation direction or something. Or maybe I am wrong, maybe ANY new CEO would be considered good news.
lol, hmmm.... not sure I look like Mr. Anderson, but okay
my name comes from two things, one that I fear the Lord (aka God) and two, I love the winter/snow/cold so I thought frost summed that up pretty well. Thus fearfrost
Decided Im not going to call CYGX this week. I was pretty busy hiking and just got home so I will call maybe next week or later this week. I still have all the questions though, thanks.
Nice ideas. I agree, once/if the August series become available, there are many many different routes one can take to hedge or leverage their shares. Hopefully the MM offers them soon.
got it, thanks neo43 and arnold. I am definitely going to refine the list because I doubt he will want to talk to me for hours and hours
For me overexposure is when I start feeling uncomfortable about my investment. I am only 22 and I have a long way to ride this if things dont work out, and I am only using money that I dont really "need" right now, so it doesnt come down to a numbers game for me, but rather a psychological/emotional game. Am I stressed out a bit? yeah. Therefore I am overexposed. But I accept the stress because I know that if things work out it will be well worth it!
Due to my overexposure to Cortex at the current moment, and the fact that I could pull out a lot of funds with a nice 50% gain, I have been thinking a lot lately about what I should do. Do I play it safe, take my nice profit, do I wait for the possible release of CX717, or do I do a little of both...
Then I read this:
"In February 2007, Cortex announced that the histopathological changes previously reported for CX717 occurred postmortem in the animal tissue. When similar tissue was rapidly removed from the animals and placed in an appropriate buffered medium, the tissue showed no signs of any histophathological changes and was physiologically normal. However, the same tissue subsequently exposed to the fixative solution rapidly began showing histopathological changes."
And all of a sudden I feel much better... I am staying all in! No way am I going to let this opportunity pass me by. Either a huge overwhelming win or a huge debilitating loss. Common Cortex, show me what you got!
In other news, I have been intensely thinking about adding MORE to my Cortex holding in the way of a straddle when August options become available. Think it would be a nice way to play this binary event... and add some insurance at the same time...
lol. However, have you seen this:
Thanks everyone for the nice words about my pics. As for the phone call, I might wait a bit now that the update just came out. But then again, not much going on this weekend... I have all your questions in a list so I might call next week or two.
This disturbs me a little, only a little:
"The SEC has requested information from the Company addressing the allegations"
Everything else was great. New CEO, cool!
OT: interesting Finn. I have read papers on prayer also that were pretty convincing. I am a believer in prayer and have seen it work in my life.
Best article I have found for the law of attraction:
http://www.crosswalk.com/11530270/
sorry for all the OT
[edit] i have been praying that CX717 gets freed up
OT: "The Secret" is also known as the law of attraction. Basically just positive thinking mixed with new age beliefs and some "science". I dont watch Oprah, but I know she did a show on "The Secret" once. Its pretty weird stuff if you ask me and mainly a bunch of hooey surrounding a sliver of truth. Who knows, maybe it is more true than I think.
Check out the site and form your own opinion, or watch the movie:

You're starting to sound like Oprah and "The Secret"...
OT: my mountaineering trip
These are two pics from my trip. We made the summit (~11,000ft) which was very cool and I got to practice a lot of crampon, ice axe, and avalanche transceiver skills. Next month Im climbing Mt. Whitney up the Mountaineers Route... supposed to be very difficult so I am training hard. Most challenging thing about this trip: carrying a 70lb pack 14 miles in 5 feet of snow (we had snowshoes thankfully).
Cheers,
fearfrost
me getting ready to hit the trail, pack and gear weighed about 1/2 my body weight.
me goofing around on the summit. Honestly the altitude was pretty tough on me cause I live essentially right on the beach. Going from 0 to 11,000ft sure makes climbing a mountain a lot harder.
Thanks downregul8, i'll add it to my list. Hopefully MS is as eager/willing to talk to me as he was before. This time I will be prepared with some real questions. Anyone else feel free to continue providing some good questions. My plan is Monday so I can prep a bit this weekend.
aloha tresmiserables. So I am thinking about calling CYGX tomorrow or monday, anyone interested please list any questions you would like me to ask.
$17 now in after hours, moving back up! Technicals looking better and better especially after that nice $16ish base was formed. Why do people buy in after hours, stupid stupid stupid....
Thanks wawh. I have been practicing reading charts by using a backtester that Ameritrade now offers. You can write equations based indicators, volume, price, whatever and then see if you would actually make money over the past few years if you traded based on the TA. Some TA yields very very nice net positive results, while most seem to just flounder and oscillate around net yield of zero or less!
A little TA
Some people on this board know a lot more about TA than I do, however I thought Id give it a crack.
http://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?s=CYGX&p=D&b=5&g=0&id=p34304188335
"BUY FREAKING RIGHT NOW!" Is what the charts are telling me... Just kidding... well kinda, in all seriousness CYGX is looking like a good buy at these prices.
First, the CMF is showing divergence which means a change in current trend should take place soon.
Second, MACD, that little black line is about to pass up through the red line = times are changing so buy now. Esp if that black line can race up through to the zero, that would be great confirmation.
Third, Wm%R show CYGX is oversold and black line is heading up through the 80. Up through the 50 would confirm. Same with FULL STO.
Finally, look at how CYGX has flattened out at these prices... a nice base if you ask me.
Conclusion, good time to buy soon, watch for confirmations.
Feel free to critique my TA as I have only just started reading the charts.
Congrates gfp! Glad to see you in... hopefully this will be a happy ending for your biotech investing after all.
Technicals looking GREAT for a buyin, so I purchased some options today. Good luck all.
I just listened to the Cowen and Company 27th Annual Health Care Conference (available for replay at BMRN.com). Basically it was just a little history/background on Biomarin and introduction to PKU. Also some updates on upcoming events, but nothing really new or previously unknown. See iBox above for dates of important announcements in the near future. Not worth listening to unless you are obsessed with BMRN or are new to the company. Actually listening to it was quite frightening due a video that they played during the presentation... sounds like one unhappy kid.
In a month Biomarin is going to give an update on the path forward with hypertension and other cardiovascular indications. They are still analyzing the data from the failed BH4 trail (for PCHT) and said that they have found some "interesting" findings. They do expect the other two trials [sickle cell (starting soon) and PAD] to do better than hypertension. They did say that the PAD trial might be modified due to the failed PCHT trial, but that will be covered during the update within the month.
On Monday there will be another webcast (Lehman Brothers Tenth Annual Global Healthcare Conference) if you would like to listen. Available at bmrn.com starting at 1:30 ET.
