When I knew Skunk back then
he was always generous with his resources for musicians.studios
and engineers with me. As a player he delivered every time. Recently
I listened to some things he recorded for me and they are still fresh and vibrant.
Muddy Waters - Documentary; Can't Be Satisfied
cap, I thought that might earn a giggle,
from you.
Sonny Landreth - Cajun Waltz
C.J was in Portland this summer
to perform on the "Blues Cruise," on the Willamette River.
We visited for the first time in almost 40 years. A long time ago,
Sonny was in his Daddy Clifton's band. I knew it had been a short-lived
relationship, so I asked C.J. how it worked out.
"Not so good," he said. "My Dad came to the breakfast table at 7 am wearing a
suit, tie and polished shoes." Sonny, on the other hand, made no special effort to dress
up, even for gigs. It was too much for the old man, so he had to fire the white boy who
could play his skinny ass off, but just didn't fit the right "profile!"
C.J. Chenier w. Sonny Landreth
Clifton Chenier - Zydeco Sant Pas Sale
Kenny Vaughan - A Bag of Weed........
“The music business is a cruel
and shallow money trench,a long plastic hallway where
thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs.
There's also a negative side.”
-- Hunter S. Thompson
Muddy Waters - Got My Mojo Workin'
Freddie King - Hide Away
Archibald - Stack a Lee
Wilbert Harrison - Kansas City
Johnny Ace - Pledging My Love
William Bell - I Forgot to be Your Lover
Toussaint McCall - Nothing Takes The Place of You
Happy Birthday Townes Van Zandt - RIP
That recording further cemented Pickett's reputation
as one of the greats of the idiom. I was really fortunate to see him at The Apollo, where he performed
this one (a big hit at the time), Mustang Sally. Six three four, and a bunch of others w/o any ballads!
It wasn't until some years later that I heard the original recording of the tune by Chris Kenner.
Like so much of the great music from the golden era of soul music, it came out of New Orleans!
Happy New Year, man.
Wilson Pickett - Midnight Hour
Muddy Waters Documentary - Can't Be Satisfied
The Last Days of Leo Fender

Marty Stuart (Man, respect!)
They can really play.
John Davidson

After all we went through that night, the ingrate never acknowledged my fan letters!
You are 100 percent correct about that one!
A well known friend in Nashville told me yesterday that he'd be
playing in the same location as he'd done for the past 27 years;
at home!
What's tonight?
(edit) Actually, I steer clear of any celebrations on New Years Eve, cap.
I consider it "amateur night!"
I was sixteen when I played my first NYE. I was in a pickup trio that featured
an unknown John Davidson, later of fame and fortune in showbiz.
We played in a basement rec room on Long Island. It was my first real opportunity
to witness the stages of alcohol "socialization."
Miles Davis - Round Midnight
Lil Band o' Gold - First You Cry
Lil Band o' Gold - Seven Letters
The Persuasions - Steal Away
Junior Wells/Otis Rush - Hoodoo Man Blues
Chuck Rainey - Lady D
What's the deal cap?
It must have been Uncle Larry's camera!
& he's STILL drinkin' that sheisty beer.
Nice telecaster.
Yeah Myth,

Dusty Springfield - Windmills of Your Mind
That's my favorite rhythm section; "The Memphis Boys"
Composed of guitarist Reggie Young, bassists Tommy Cogbill and Mike Leech, keyboardists
Bobby Emmons and Bobby Wood, and drummer Gene Chrisman.
Elliott Randall - Afternoon In Tunisia
(His father passed away on the morning of this session)
I thought "fats" elevated his game
by the challenge, or the green room refreshments, perhaps.
I've known Taj since before the Dead Sea even got sick.
He's still out there touring. They recently came back from GOA!
Hmmmmm; 'not bad!
(When we were young)
I never had a bad moment w. Elliott, but '79 was an exceptional year!
Thank you, Star;
U as well!
