Google OWNS Area 51, what could POSSIBLY go wrong?
I gotta give credit where credit is due:
"No one lurks on this stream quite as well as you." Awesome!
I think you're onto something there (regarding the warrants), too bad so many people don't feel strongly enough about it.
I could see the REITs paying divs, and some of the cash-cow companies like T (which have done it for decades). I suspect consistent cash flow plays a large role there, so I'm not sure how to regard the idea of a dividend from VRNG; revenue from product or services provided isn't yet stellar.
Oh, and by the way, I painted "The Lurker" with nail polish on top of your rock, so everyone will see it now but you never will!
Lurk away, Golden Glen, May the clouds and sun smile on ye and show us a harvest afore spring greening. GLTY
At 90 YO I'm entitled to say, "You have read my mind!" Same to you, young man. I'm hoping V goes super-nova before the goat's milk sours this evening! (LOL) GLTA
(GASP!) It's always the "lurkers" who have the most to offer! Don't be so silent! "Know how" is priceless! I'll have to start flipping over rocks, letting in some sunshine to wake up a lurker or two (LOL)!
You're right, of course, I'm just not thinking too clearly at the moment. Every move forward opens some doors (options) and closes others. One step at a time, I guess.
Raised your eyebrows, huh? Sure raised mine. I'm apprehensive but will trust V's expertise, as they didn't object to the withdrawal.
I don't understand why I feel elated over something (event) that makes my skin crawl. Apparently good on the surface, but can't help wondering if there's a hidden agenda? I guess I'm just not used to Google doing anything to benefit anyone but Google. Leopards don't change their spots, reprobate is reprobate, period. As a corporate entity, Google is a monopolistic thief and a gangster, criminal all the way with an in-your-face attitude. Forgive my suspicion if it appears unseemly, and good luck to all longs.
As of 2/12/2014:
GOOG = $1,186.69
VRNG = $ 4.37
Shall we dance?
You may be right, so help us along with your line of reasoning, please? You may be onto something most of us (including me) have missed, or saw an angle to everything unique from other investors' perspectives. I'm new in stocks and am trying to learn all I can.
Oh my heavenly stars! Farmers can't count to a billion! Orbit is bad enough for an old gal, don't be sending my head out to the asteroid belt! I clearly misunderstood the scope of what we're dealing with here. Cheers, John:)!
Yes, I pulled my hair out over this and I haven't got much left.
Many opinionated speculators offer reasons for one judgment to be much greater than the other (Google/ZTE). I'm unconvinced. Seriously believe that the final judgments of each will be close, regarding actual revenues awarded. Two big fish of about the same size. We'll see:)!
(Gasp!) I certainly hope you don't think it's accidental!
I certainly hope you don't think Vringo WANTS this to be happening!
I somewhat suspect that retail shorts are maybe 10% of the problem. If so, the other 90% is attributable to the "Big Goroogle" in the room. Retail shorts are only minor contributors, but vicarious beneficiaries of stock suppression on a massive scale done by an entity that has so much money it can't count its interest.
Instead of focusing your ire toward V as you apparently do, focus your ire toward who's DOING THIS to Vringo's stock, and we'll all be on a closer wavelength. JMHO, but I respect yours as well.
I'm no expert on WS and avoid preaching to anyone, just a senior citizen invested in an unpredictable stock, searching for an answer that makes sense (like many others here). I started out long and remain long, but am very weary over all the nonsense that Google has contrived to demonstrate how it is not "evil."
Corporations don't have a "personality." They aren't alive. They reflect the personalities of those who steer their ships (upper management). So it's not far-fetched to assume that "HUMAN nature" comes into play in corporate decisions at times when many may not suspect.
Surely there is a reason for the clear and convincing pattern of what I perceive to be "stock price harassment" toward Vringo's share price. It's going on far too long, and has never been affected by judicial decisions or events in Vringo's favor. "The market" isn't doing this. Unbelievable discretionary wealth is doing this. It's like Scrooge McDuck's "money bin" where cash is pushed around with a bulldozer and ends up burying all opponents.
Shorting may be the method of attack, but the actual "perp" has to be someONE or someTHING that stands to gain by vigorously and relentlessly suppressing V's stock. This can also be construed as an attack against Vringo as a company, and its body of shareholders as well. As all suspicions and speculations fall by the wayside, only one glaring suspect remains. Our non-evil court adversary.
I am open and objectively amenable to contrary persuasion. Have at it, if you wish, but please don't attack me as I'm as entitled to my personal opinion as anyone else. I read and respect everyone.
I'm acronym challenged, sorry: What's "PWND?"
PLEASE, don't give them any ideas! I'm sure somewhere in the hallowed halls of American justice stranger things have happened. It's not that far fetched to suspect that there have been times when even presidents have done as they were told.
I tend to disagree with you in part. I don't actually see V as a joke, if I did I wouldn't have any money in the game. I do, however, see G as a corporate monstrosity & abomination and the LEGAL SYSTEM as a joke, for all the loopholes, outs, delays and escape clauses they created to allow evasion or avoidance of swift justice if enough money is involved. All I got from the courts so far is they declare everything but enforce nothing. How long can any company or body of investors tread water? Years down the road from entry, how many investors, percentage-wise, would remain long investors if all they hear is "Be patient," "Our ship will come in." "Hang tough, we won years ago." "Somewhere, over the rainbow-o-ow...". (Of course, Toto) There is a point in time and procession that's a dividing line between patience and insanity. No one seems to know where it is. I confess I don't either. Still long, but very weary.
Would it sound moronic if I said you were 110% right? Well, that's my opinion anyway.
Dunna tell no one, but we got a plank fer Google!
Aye, aye! An' like me, at 90 YO, sure ya been dere and saw it all. Th' highs an' lows, the ups and down of the waves rockin' th' boat an' strikin' fear in the staunchest swabs among us. T' th' LOCKER an' briney DEEP wit em! Davey's waitin', if'n y' ask me! An' fer us, oh but dere be TREASURE waitin' if we hit hard land, ah kin feel it in me bonez! In me bonez, I kin!
Aye, Captain, but how many times does the board need to be reminded there be a U-Boat named Google beneath our keel drillin' holes in our ship day by day without letup?
Despite traces of merit to the multitude of reasoned arguments along the way (attempting to explain the short angle), you are clearly and overwhelmingly correct in that when Google benefits, Google is behind it. Nothing else HAS TO make sense. No one needs "proof" to benefit from common sense.
No landmark, business as usual but on a slightly higher than normal scale.
Last I heard, JJS needed a breather and took time to make some German sausage. We'll hear from him if V goes into orbit and he wets his lederhosen.
Oh, shucks, I hate it when you're right. GLTY
Oh, shucks, I hate it when you're right. GLTY
VHC wasn't warring against "Do-No-Evil-Google." G has it's corporate arse planted firmly where it needs to be to continuously suppress Vringo's stock price and make V regret it ever filed suit to begin with. It's a vendetta, extremely dirty pool, and will go on as long as it can't be proven. Don't compare Vringo with VHC, focus on the opponents.
You can do it. Look at me. I beat the Big C twice and I'm still chasing chicks around the barnyard at 90 years old, frittering away all my spare butter-n-egg money on dopey VRINGO! Life is sweet. It's all good:). GLTY!
I understand you, sir/madam, your belief and opinion is duly noted and respected. GLTY
Nothing is "wrong with this stock!" An "elephant" is sitting on it to suppress the stock price on a daily, money-is-no-object basis, and has been doing so since the start of court proceedings. Please, no diversions from the reality that G is a sworn enemy locked in attack mode. Nothing is wrong with V's stock.
My take is that G sees itself as so large and powerful it refuses to acknowledge, accept and yield to judicial authority when it disagrees with court decisions critical to its single-minded agenda.
In other circles this is called "gangsterism" or "organized crime." How this can possibly go on, or be permitted to persist, in the hallowed halls of US justice is beyond me.
If the courts and judiciary are the determining elements here, WHERE (and WHAT) is the ENFORCING element? What agency or authority can immediately compel the forcible transfer of funds from an adjudged loser who WILL NOT ACCEPT LOSS to the victor in a civil confrontation like this, regardless of the protestations of the loser?
I picture a low-level felon in shackles and cuffs being pronounced guilty by a jury and then dragged off to the hoosegow kicking and screaming in defiant contempt all the way. Then I see G being adjudged equally guilty smirking at the bench and slipping out the front door to board a private jet for weekend cocktails in Bali.
Something is wrong with this picture. I just can't put it into words properly. I'm totally disgusted with GOOGLE as it has taken on the mien of a 3-ring circus. Someone, somewhere, PLEASE assemble a program I can buy that will purge everything Google off my machine, and a web site I can visit to learn about how many other companies Google owns or has acquired over the years so I can avoid them too. Their corporate REPROBATION and MENDACITY knows no bounds. They may be rich, but I don't have to give them so much as a nickel. Bye-bye, YouTube, it's been nice knowing you. This lawsuit has been a "learning experience" for my whole family in more ways than one.
What I got from #47511 is TODAY was the phone in, TOMORROW is "before" the judge. Maybe I read it wrong.
Hey, don't despair, Hell ALSO got a winter storm advisory today!
Spastic finger? (#437 - #438 - #440 - #442)
I'm trying to express this like a lady, but, does she ever have any biting comments for you?
I can't recall the exact words used by QE (or G) immediately post verdict, but it was something to the effect of "...we believe we will eventually win this case." Those with access to the verdict can find it for themselves.
Considering all the delays and appeals we've seen thus far, Google clearly believes (THEY DO!) that delaying and appealing ad nauseum, for any reason, every reason and no reason, and at every opportunity, regardless of propriety or likelihood of gain, CAN and WILL eventually lead to a decisive victory over VRINGO.
Is this a type of psychosis, something we would rightly expect to see from certified, confineable megalomaniacs or egotistical demigods? I.E., a total break with reality (of a clear jury verdict)? It sure does seem to explain why we've seen NO rational actions from G in this matter since Day 1
Please, no G-talk about they're only looking after the interests of their stockholders or investors. If they did, G stock would be offering a quarterly (or monthly!) dividend to die for, one to shame the REITS in their days of glory (maybe 18%-20% and climbing?). Anyone with the mind of a turnip can see that money means nothing to Google (not a factor in their decision-making) and neither do its shareholders, considering their astronomical cash flow and willingness to pee it away on legal fees and (vicariously, through EDGX) daily shorting V's stock.
Their loss has never sunk in. How many times have they tried and failed to get the patents invalidated after it was determined the patents WERE valid? How many times can a $1,000+ stock say to a $3.00 stock, "Hey, we stole your IP and refuse any consequences, took what belongs to you, laugh in your face to this day, used it in our business to become the global-dominant search engine and internet company, we DID IT and we're GLAD. So what? Bug off, VRINGO, we feel we owe you NOTHING! If the court disagrees, we'll appeal and appeal and appeal and appeal...etc." WE be GOOGLE!
Can no authority curb this runaway train wreck? This is sad.
Excellent read, thanks very much for posting. Next-to-last paragraph says you posted (or included) a link revealing some of your other stock picks for reader DD and consideration. Can't find a link and am interested in what some others are doing in the market (and why). Please post the link you mentioned if possible. Thank you once again.
You are now my hero of the month! Ain't been stalked since Truman's election.
Dear Testynine (the only way I can remember your handle), I try my best but am dwarfed by these kids with college schooling who make me feel small and dumb at times. Still, I have age (89) and awareness of human nature on my side, but it often doesn't help when dealing with things like Wall Street and monstrosities like Google where laws mean nothing and gangsterism is unheard of. I have to listen more than talk, as most investors know more than me about what's going on or what's about to happen. I'm just rooting for us all, in more ways than one.
