I think nothing is posted here because the last bit of news isn't any different than the past hype we've read.
When they said "a heavy increase in sales" I just shook my head. It's unbelievable. Same old, same old.
A number would have been better received, but you and I both know the reason they phrased it that way. The numbers probably just aren't what we expect.
Heavy to them isn't necessarily your and my idea of heavy.
I consider heavy 10,000 plus units...not a couple of thousand....and unfortunately I think their idea of heavy is in the hundreds.
Maybe i missed some great news!
Asking WSJ to go out and buy some shares is fruitless...I wouldn't buy any more.
We need the officers to buy some substantial amount of shares.
Hope all is well.

Cos. Offer Powerful Speakers for Katrina
Sep 2, 9:25 PM (ET)
By MATTHEW FORDAHL

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - A company that develops high-powered speakers for the military and police says it has loaned some of its gear so emergency responders can communicate with people stranded by Hurricane Katrina.
The gear was developed for crowd control and for use in war zones. But it can also be used to relate information like a gigantic bullhorn.
San Diego-based American Technology Corp. (ATCO) has deployed its long- and medium- range acoustic devices - LRADs and MRADs - for use by the military in Iraq. It has loaned several to emergency agencies, said Robert Putnam of the company's investor relation's department. It was unclear whether the equipment had been used as of Friday, he said.
In Iraq, the high-tech loudspeakers blast messages at cars approaching checkpoints, warning drivers to stop or slow down. They've also been used at sea to stop boats from approaching Navy vessels.
In the United States, police departments also have used devices to relay information to people holed up in homes. Putnam said the intent is not to injure hearing but to make sure information is heard.
"The whole point is to move, get out of the beam and do as you're instructed," he said. "The sound tones are used to get people's attention not to hurt people. Most of these are used with verbal instructions."
In the disaster area, messages can be blasted from helicopters to people stranded on rooftops.
"It can be heard even above the roar of a helicopter, which is important if you want to tell people anything," Putnam said. "That's the problem with bullhorns - over a helicopter, they can't really understand what you're saying."
Costa Mesa-based HPV Technologies Inc., another firm that develops similar high-tech audio gear, said it has offered to donate equipment to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, but its calls have not been returned.
During a test earlier this week at Edwards Air Force Base in southern California, the equipment projected recordings of Muhammad Ali reading poetry and Frank Sinatra singing over a mile.
"All of them were completely audible," said Phillip Hamilton, HPV's owner and general counsel. "The speaker was a tiny dot. You couldn't tell what it was. You were 5,280 feet away."
The test, however, was conducted along a desert runway at the base. In an urban area, the sound waves could be blocked by tall buildings and other obstructions.
HPV's Magnetic Acoustic Device, however, also can be deployed on a truck or attached to a helicopter, he said. Units displayed Thursday were as much as 10-feet across.
"It's a self-contained unit," he said. "Very mobile and transportable."
The units are based on a technology called planar magnetics. Unlike cone-shaped speakers, the HPV speakers vibrate flat panels on the speaker. The combination significantly multiplies the strength of the speaker.
"It does to sound what a laser does to light," Hamilton said.
Currently, HPV's equipment is used by the Arco Arena in Sacramento, the Museum of Modern Art in New York and by a concert tour organization in Germany. Hamilton said the company also is pursuing work with the military.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - For my money, Bluetooth technology has long been little more than a spotty solution in search of problem. Getting rid of wires around the house is an admirable goal, but Bluetooth-enabled devices invariably cost a bit more, have limited range and require extra connectivity doodads that I've been unwilling pay for.
Until now.
In October, Plantronics Inc. (PLT) will start selling the Pulsar 590, a pair of rechargeable Bluetooth-enabled headphones. The company sent me a pair to try and suddenly I can't live without them.
They offer nice styling and killer sound quality extended over a range of about 50 feet from a small transmitter that can be connected to the miniplug audio output jack of any device.
The headphones cost $150 alone, $200 with the transmitter. Devices already compatible with new technology called Advanced Audio Distribution Profile, or A2DP, don't require the transmitter, but few such devices are on the market right now. More on that later.
After charging the headphones and the transmitter on a sleek silver base, I synchronized them by simultaneously holding down two buttons on the headphones. Blinking red and blue lights appear once the headphones were successfully paired with the transmitter.
I then plugged the transmitter into several devices for testing, starting with my DVD player. I cranked up one of my favorite monster flicks, "Deep Rising," and nestled onto the couch with the headphones on. The explosions, growls and gunshots sounded crystal clear, and I could crank up the volume without disturbing anyone.
Even better was my ability to do some loud Xbox gaming without worrying about my dog stepping on the cord and yanking it out of my ears.
The other day, I connected the transmitter to a small digital music player, pressed "play" and threw both into a backpack. I put on the headphones and went for a nice long walk, listening to tunes without worrying that my swinging arm or elbows would jerk some earbuds out of my ear.
And in an odd use of this device, I attached a small stereo signal splitter to my wife's music player and sent the sounds to both her headphones and my transmitter. As she sat in a park and listened to music on her earbuds, I played fetch with the dog nearby and listened to the same tunes via the Bluetooth headphones.
Geeky, sure, but it worked like a charm.
The battery life of the unit was outstanding, as was the sound quality. I fully charged the unit and started playing music at 9:45 a.m. one morning. I kept replaying and changing playlists, tweaking the volume up and down, and the headphones and transmitter were still going strong at 5:30 p.m.
The headphones have "track forward" and "track back" buttons that serve little purpose for now. But they will, Plantronics says, once more device manufacturers begin to incorporate the aforementioned A2DP technology.
When that happens, users should have better control over headphones like these because they won't have to fiddle with the player to switch songs. Some industry analysts expect widespread adoption of this technology over the next few years, but right now the pickings are slim to none, and none of my devices supports it.
Nonetheless, Plantronics has done an outstanding job with these headphones, effectively streamlining the experience of sound - sans wires.

Companies Offer Cell-Phone Comics in Japan

TOKYO (AP) - Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. will almost triple the number of comic books it formats for viewing on cell phones in a move that will make it the No. 1 provider of popular Japanese "manga" comics for cell phones, a company official said Monday.
The Sony Corp. (SNE) unit will increase the number of titles it offers to 300 over the next year. That's more than double the number offered by top rivals NTT Solmare and Toppan Publishing combined, though the two competitors also plan to boost their libraries.
Japanese viewers pay 315 yen ($2.90) to download five manga titles a month by an artist of their choice.
The marriage between cell-phone technology and manga comic books, which are wildly popular across all ages in Japan, is a natural progression in a nation where people already download music, games and even novels onto their mobiles.
"Manga are a Japanese institution, but viewing comics on mobile phones is an entirely different experience altogether," said Hidekazu Tanaka, a Sony spokesman.
Cell-phone comics use a technology called Comic Surfing, developed by Tokyo-based venture firm Celsys, which takes viewers through manga stories at a carefully calculated speed and sequence.
The manga frames are specially formatted to fit on tiny mobile phone screens. Pop-up frames and vibration during action scenes add to the drama. Cell-phone comics with preprogrammed sound effects are also coming soon, said Toppan Publishing spokesman Katsunori Onishi.
Tanaka said Sony Pictures Entertainment has signed exclusive contracts with 10 popular manga artists, including Shigeru Mizuki, creator of Gegege no Kitaro - a 1970s classic featuring a young ghoul boy who fights monsters.
"We want to rein in middle-aged mobile-phone users, as well as teenagers," he said.
Tapping into the manga fan market would also be lucrative for mobile content developers. Japan's Nomura Research Institute estimates that manga maniacs spent an estimated 100 billion yen ($906 million) on comics in 2004.

another one to look into...Rocker partners a hedge fund at this time in the spotlight for illegal trading.

OT:Rocker Partners Ongoing Violator of Reg SHO Rules
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rocker Partners, a NY hedge fund run by David Rocker, along with Helmsman Holdings (a BVI fund), solely controlled by David Rocker, is short 30% of the US companies on the NYSE Regulation SHO Threshold list. The companies he is known and documented as being short are NFI, ALD, KKD and PPD. He is also known to be short at least 20% of the US small cap companies on the NASDAQ Regulation SHO Threshold list - AAII, NFLX, OSTK, and TASR. All of these positions are easily confirmed by googling the companies and Rocker.
Could this all be a big coincidence? A fluke? Possible, but in my opinion unlikely. The likely explanation is that this is a very bad guy who believes, obviously, that the rules were made to be broken. They don't apply to him. His modus operendi is clearly to abusively naked short a company without regard for the laws or the rules, understanding that nobody is ever going to enforce them. So why not? It's a lucrative business - in this instance, illegal behavior apparently pays handsomely.
A fair question is how large is the fail to deliver problem in these companies? No one will say. The DTCC and the NYSE and the NASDAQ are all tight lipped as to the size and scope of the fails problem, and they won't tell anyone how large an issue it is. They have stonewalled any attempts to get the numbers by the companies that have been violated, and seem confident that nobody is going to make them tell. Who has the money to go up against them?
So the violations continue. The perpetrator is able to create a virtually endless supply of shares with which to depress the price of the companies he's targeted, and no one is stopping him. And the DTCC and the Exchanges are helping by protecting him and not divulging the size of the problem.
This is a systemic issue, but Rocker is an easy face to put on the bad guy, as he is short so many of companies on the lists.
Why hasn't the SEC stepped in and done an investigation of his trading? Is 30% of the NYSE list not enough of a smoking gun? What will it take? 50%? 80%?
When will the SEC require the DTCC to come clean and tell everyone how large a problem they've created with their "stock borrow program"? Ever? Or is it OK to violate all the rules and facilitate fraud as long as you are a favored entity?
The DTCC is not the government. Far from it. It is a private company chartered under the banking laws of NY, partially owned by the Federal Reserve and by the NYSE. It is a for profit entity. By what right can it simply refuse to answer reasonable questions as to its operations? What rule or regulation can it use to justify its obstinate refusal to fess up as to the number of fails in its system?
It sounds like the DTCC doesn't want to incriminate itself, so it's simply refusing to answer direct questions.
And it sounds as though Rocker Partners is a good example of how a money manager with a lot of contacts and cronies in New York may be using the system to rob companies of their valuations, and shareholders of their money, aided by the DTCC and the complacence of the SEC.
As an aside, it is interesting to note that no accountability mechanism is in place to find out where all the money comes from to fund these types of hedge fund entities. Middle Eastern cash of dubious origin? No problem. Russian dollars of indeterminate cleanliness? Bring it on. The Cali Teacher's Association, or the Bogota Retirement Guild? The cash is all green.
What a travesty of justice.
Crime pays. Big time on Wall Street.
How can the President ask us as a nation to put our money into the markets when this kind of predator is allowed to systematically cheat investors who are in the very same market? What are they thinking? Did they just think no one would notice?
Shame.
The system must be fixed. Now would be a good time to start.

John O'Quinn and His Legal Team File Lawsuit Against Gradient Analytics, Inc. and Rocker Partners LLP. on Behalf of Overstock.com, Inc.
Aug 11, 2005 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- HOUSTON, Aug. 11 /PRNewswire/ A civil complaint against Gradient Analytics, Inc., Rocker Partners LP., David Rocker, Marc Cohodes and others for unfair business practices was filed today by John O'Quinn and his legal consortium on behalf of online retailer Overstock.com (Nasdaq: OSTK).
Overstock.com launched its first website through which customers could purchase products in 1999. Its overall business and gross revenues have grown steadily and consistently, at a rate of approximately 100% each year since 2000. Its annual revenues for the year ending December 31, 2004 were approximately $500 million.
The complaint alleges that Gradient Analytics, Inc., an influential company that sells reports and analyses on publicly traded companies to hedge funds, traditional mutual funds, and provides them to financial commentators such as MSNBC, is closely aligned with various stock hedge funds. The complaint alleges that Gradient and Rocker Partners LP, which is owned and controlled by David Rocker and Michael Cohodes, individually and/or through Rocker Offshore or Rocker Management, conspired to denigrate Overstock.com's business so as to reap personal profits for themselves.
Dr. Patrick Byrne, founder and president of Overstock.com, commented: ''What's at stake here is innovation and entrepreneurship in America. My company has been attacked and I'm not going to take this lying down. In joining forces with John O'Quinn and his team of lawyers, I think we have what it takes to win. We certainly have what it takes to fight.''
Attorney John O'Quinn also commented: ''We have an expression in Texas about the skill of matching the mules. Combining our lawyers and a-level experts with the tenacity, verve and commitment of Overstock.com CEO Dr. Patrick Byrne is a powerful alliance, hitched up for the long haul to win this battle. It is time someone stops these offshore hedge funds from taking advantage of average working Americans and American Public companies. That someone is us.''
Attorney Adam Voyles added: ''I am speaking for the entire consortium when I say that we are prepared to obtain justice for our client from these Defendants and all others who aided them in these illegal acts. It is time our government authorities and regulators pay attention to the large number of offshore hedge funds that are taking advantage of hard working Americans.''
In the actions, filed in Marin County California Superior Court, Overstock.com is represented by the law firms of O'Quinn, Laminack & Pirtle, Christian Smith & Jewell, and Heard, Robins, Cloud, Lubel & Greenwood, LLP, all of Houston, Texas, Woodbury & Kessler, PC of Salt Lake City, Utah, the Siegler Law Group, Inc, of Beverly Hills, California and Koerner Silberberg and Weiner, LLP of New York, New York.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Add TiVo Inc. to the list of companies trying to wed the Internet to television. The digital recording company will soon allow customers to download TV shows to their set-top boxes via the Internet - even before the shows air on TV.
TiVo has struck a deal with the Independent Film Channel to transmit several of the cable channel's shows through a broadband connection as part of a trial program. Participating customers will begin receiving the shows next week, said TiVo spokesman Elliot Sloane.
Sloan confirmed that TiVo sent messages to its customers - later posted on the technology Web log Engadget.com - offering to transmit three IFC shows beginning Aug. 19, before they aired on the cable channel.
Content on demand has long been a holy grail for Internet and cable companies as they hunt for the next generation of television. No one yet has found a way to overcome the considerable technological hurdles, such as finding a speedy way to pump two-hour movies through broadband, or convince Hollywood that its content won't be pirated and that it can profit from Internet broadcasts.
Still, Internet connections are picking up speed and moving closer to a reliable delivery method for broadcast-quality video. Should the day come that video is downloaded at the touch of a button, some stakeholders foresee a vast video universe of endless variety.
TiVo has offered its 3.3 million customers a form of watch-what-they-want, when-they-want-it luxury since it launched in 1997, but the service remains restricted to broadcast schedules, and customers must program their set-top box to record shows.
Right now, fans of the spy drama "Alias" must wait until weekly episodes are broadcast on ABC. Conceivably, an Internet broadcaster could strike a deal with a studio to offer customers a season's worth of shows at once.
The question is, why would any studio with a hot show want to hand over its content to TiVo?
After all, TiVo's service cuts networks out of advertising revenue by making it easy for viewers to skip past commercials. And then there is the question of money, says Rob Sanderson, media analyst with American Technology Research.
"The cable and satellite companies pay an awful lot of money for content," said Sanderson. He cites ESPN as an example - ESPN receives about $2.20 per month for each cable and satellite subscriber. ESPN reaches 80 million homes so that equals about $160 million a month, "more than TiVo will do in two years," Sanderson said.
"The studios would ask themselves 'Who are we disenfranchising by working with these TiVo folks in terms of distribution partners? TiVo would need a lot of scale, a massive audience. They would have to offer enormous financial incentive. They have neither right now."
The challenges have been illustrated by other companies trying to offer video downloads to computers.
Akimbo Systems Inc., for example, takes as long to download shows as to watch them, and its users must pay $199 for a set-top box and then connect to the Internet through a high-speed connection.
In comparison, Comcast Corp. (CMCSA) offers video-on-demand at no additional charge to digital customers and requires no additional equipment beyond the digital cable box. The shows are delivered over the normal existing coaxial cable to transmit the shows over Comcast's own network.
Besides movies, Comcast offers shows from PBS, HBO, NFL Network, MTV and elsewhere. This is the kind of content muscle cable channels can flex.
News of TiVo's test was revealed a day after the company saw its stock fall more than 6 percent following a media report that DirecTV was planning to stop marketing the service to its 14 million customers. News Corp. (NWSA)-owned DirecTV is planning to throw support behind a competing digital recording company. About 70 percent of TiVo's customers have come from its deal with DirecTV.
TiVo shares fell 8 cents to close at $5.54 in trading Friday on the Nasdaq Stock Market.
Struggling to boost the number of its customers and facing the loss of one of its top partners, TiVo is scrambling to find new ways to appeal to the public as well as monetize its service. The company has yet to make a profit.
In recent months, the company, which built its reputation by helping users skip commercials, has begun experimenting with new ways to sell advertising.
What TiVo has going for it is a rich history of ramping up complex new systems, said Sanderson.
"Their good at bringing innovative creations to market," said Sanderson. "I just don't see this one helping in the near term."

ya know what Fred,
you aren't the only one who has made that comment on FF and Furman setting up the financing with Ikant/Simms......interesting!
Can I assume the former insider was JC?
Seems like FF and co were not doing things in the best interest of the shareholders. They knew when to sell before the Nasdaq failure..they knew IMO their sales wouldn't be where it needed to be either.
What will they be up to next?
Well, at least I won't be averaging down like some of those who claim they are on agoracon. I'm sure they're not being very truthful.
lol....yup/
berge, I agree...if someone doesn't understand how it works after reading that they should get someone to help them with this. I think it's very important to follow thru on this matter. It's our money and many companies went broke because of it.
It's very simple...many stocks are stagnant because of this. Counterfeit shares are keeping the share prices from gaining.
