Too many earthquakes?
Damn, folks if this is the big one its been nice knowing ya!
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/recenteqsww/
So would the best kind day for that to be one where the market was down but not too much. And so its kind of a sigh of relief if you will that the bulls didnt get hurt that day?
Just curious what you look for to expect that. I've seen it go the other way where the last 15 minutes the futures got slammed as if the market was being held up to the 4:00 pm close.
d.
lee
Im talking about the guys that mark up the NQs, 4 points in the last 1 minute of trading in the 15 minute post-market close for example yesterday.
Reading charts doesnt have anything to do with it, the market makers "adjust" things every day in that last 15 minutes in what seems to be a black hole of futures trading. Theres no way to tell what will happen because it seems to have no correlation to the previous hour of trading.
Just bitching about the end of day shenanigans
d.
<small caps did ok>
actually worst performing group today, down 1.6%
bummed since thats mostly what Im in
I have short in Naz and SP as a hedge and it didnt help today
d.
World wide in developing countries like China but in the U.S. as the aging water/wastewater infrastructure needs replaced.
There is a 20 year parabolic wave of pipelines/ water and wastewater projected based on the mean time to failure of two large groups of pipes put in the U.S.
100 years ago in the east and 75 years ago in the west and it all starts failing about the same time because the new stuff isnt as good. its huge though, some cities may have to just move because the problem will be too big to fix
d.
VIX is ready to launch
http://stockcharts.com/def/servlet/SC.web?c=$vix,uu[h,a]daclyiay[pc20!b50!f][vc60][iut!Ub14!Lc20]&am...
it would be one heck of a fake out if it doesnt take off to the upside from here imo
I think water is huge play over next 10 years.
AMN, WTS, GRC, ION, TII are small caps I have in that sector
also PLL and CUNO in filtration
good luck
d.
Cursing those guys at the close. Pre-market and post-market trading is the greatest thing going for the crooks. You can sway the masses on a few thin trades and undo a days work for some.
How can they get away with just marking the futures wherever they want after thousands of trades ended?$%^
This shit is going to end badly. Need to start over with a new system imo.
d.
Indexes flat and my portfolio down a solid 1%
No junk in there either all solid performers, most with PE ratios under 20. More selling than meets the eye or more specialists taking advantage of fear factor.
Tape painting indexes for News Years or what?

Refco in Chicago
Nice day in wheat, closing on high of day
Read that China representatives are coming to discuss wheat trade with U.S., plus maybe reduced consumption of meat (mad cow) will increase some grains
Anyway nice move on it today.
d.
Mad cow play - wheat futures
anyone else here trading grain futures?
d.
<Bless you my son.>
Got retired Catholic priest syndrome?

got blame for mad cow?
got currency "bull" market?
d.
Yes, should be an interesting combination of skyrocketing energy and food costs, deflating home prices, and layoffs on the way to look forward to. Thanks to Greenspam and co.
But heck this stock market is the way to go. Who needs a job anyway you can just take what you got and put it in stocks and they go up every day.
got failed economic theory? Greenspam must have mad cow disease - the mouth is on overtime and the brain is on vacation.
d.
Sorry I meant the trendline from Oct.
If you go back to August then its 18.5 or so I think from here.
d.
the VIX has busted the downtrend line going back to Aug.
heads up
d.
Sitting ducks for shorts imo. Bull trap
d.
Nice head and shoulders on the 30 minute spread NQ - ES
coupled with the inverted head and shoulders on the VIX, falling dollar and weak bonds..
should be intesting today
Embrace the Noise
Seems strange that Japan would advertise it is selling US bonds? Or was it just identified that it was happening by Bloomberg?
Maybe it has something to do with this I got off anther board:
Headline for the WSJ tomorrow:
"China has announced plans to curb spending, raise energy prices and limit the credit supply in a bid to cool economic growth."
Maybe the big trillion yen buying binge to support the dollar has been postponed because China decided to give it a rest? And why would China want to curb growth.. man this is confusing
Mad cow is confusing me and now this..
d.
edit: I think I got a take on it. The Fed is using Japan and China as exuses to stop supporting bonds. They need to raise rates but dont want to take heat for it...
jdaasoc and extelecom
thx for your input
d.
Yeah, but we just found one case last week? Thats how this all got started.
Confused in Conneticut

Topic: Mad Cow
Someone explain how this works? The problem goes away if we trace its origin back to Canada? wtf?
<If U.S. and Canadian officials confirm that the sick cow in Washington state came from Canada, it might save the export market for the American beef industry because the United States could keep its disease-free status and continue trade.>
http://aolsvc.news.aol.com/news/article.adp?id=20031227120909990001
The inverted head and shoulders breakout on gold projects to 465. I expect it will overshoot to test 492 driven by commericals covering massive short positions.
This could happen fairly quickly and closing over 420 increases the odds which dont need much improvement at this point imo.
Buy and hold to 1000/oz over the next 5 years or trade it take your pick.
d.
In your opinion does Canada have the problem under control now and its just now it's in the US (which seems unlikely)? Or are both countries going to find bigger problems.
Im more interested to know if there is a fix on this now than trying to point fingers etc.
thanks in advance eh
d.
<Canada 2 USA 0.>
Do you mean because the U.S. didnt detect it upon import and that the U.S. records are wrong?
Just curious how you see this
d.
Agree with that. The pro's SELL options the don't BUY em.
Buying options is a low probability play.
d.
Dont worry that was just noise
Along with the move in the XAU
Kind of like the dudes "riding out" the recent earthquake, and no one seems scared that the mountains have moved up 1 ft?
http://cnn.space.printthis.clickability.com/pt/cpt?action=cpt&title=CNN.com+-+Report%3A+Mountain...
<Forget the noise>
We must not be looking at the same chart, anyway
just looking for cracks. Earthquakes start with small noises.
d.
Inverted H & shoulders on the hourly VIX
doesnt look good
HEADS UP

My best guess for 2004 market forecast <g>
http://www.sharelynx.com/chartsfixed/WSJchart.jpg
have a good day
M.
Oh yes, specialists I've heard of those
Rumor has it that many specialists may be buying islands in the Pacific and retiring early next year.
Hey, every message board needs at least one guy like me (and you) to keep it interesting <g>
I am bullish and bearish at the same time which is why I am striving to become a top Wall Street analyst.
d.
Positioning for 2004
Buy shares in real companies producing products which will benefit from a falling dollar, deteriorating environment, contaminated food supply and corrupt banking system.
I especially like water services sector, natural gas, environmental service companies, and selected biotechs.
Fiat money will be proven worthless within a few years so you might as well spend it on something of value now.
Purchase gold and silver bullion to max of 25% of total assets.
For remaining cash be sure that money market funds are backed by U.S. government securities only - no GSEs (FNM, FRE). One step further for large sums of money is to purchase diversified positions in foreign currencies to protect against dollar devaluation.
Short positions in U.S. stock indicies should be kept small as its possible that Japan/U.S continuing intervention in the stock market will work temporarily and bears will catch the big one at a later date. But carrying a small short index position against a basket of selected real company stocks is good strategy imo.
Bitch about current government administration on message boards frequently and hope that people come to their senses <g>
Peace and Good Health to All in 2004
d.
Wonder how much of the 180k contract short position in Gold the commercials will cover today
Or maybe better yet to wait for New Years..
d.
Mad Cow rally should be good for another 100 pts on the DOW
really I would not be surprised, the market is climbing a wall of worry as they say
But the news probably will put a damper on the usual gold bashing and holiday ramp a thons.
The derivatives program that has pumped up stocks, bonds simultaneously over the past 6 months is now going to Have A Cow unwinding this mess.
There's no quick easy answer on the mad cow stuff. It can put a lot of people out of jobs in a hurry. Ask the folks in England.

Went long RIMM @ $91.90
to the moon! gapper....
d.
<It is teaching the shorts a lesson they will not forget for a very very long time.>
Longs seem to have forgotten lessons of the recent past.
