ericsonn enters into a liscence w/ idc AFTER a hard fought legal battle.....and its meaningless...nokia enters into a liscence w/ ntp thereby COMMERCIALLY VALIDATING thier patent portfolio and helps them towards winning their case w/ rimm...in the immortal words of al pacino...."there's something really ,really wrong here"...
im buying also in the last 3days...there have been zero block trades today
the bid has good sponsorship today...nothing drastic...but its there
they could surprise me and honor their contracts!!
not so fast..i think they have to wait until 10 oclock
decent volume out of the gate...up small on a down morning...i guess the weekend analysts didnt mind what they read
the judge has gone as far to say publicly ...that this is a commercial matter...and she does not see how nokia can skirt its obligation to idc
chisel that in stone...5 years from now...nokias market share will be almost laughable compared to last years...the content of the "phone"...is moving towards the sweet spot of asian dominance..screens,cameras,lenses,etc...i never quite understood how the whiteys from the frozen zone achieved 2g dominance in the first place
yet again cute...but idc does not cross liscence w/ anybody...they charge the same rate to all handset manufacturers[volume discounts]...whether they are in possesion of patents or not...ericsonn settled their differencs w/ idc prior to 2002 for a fixed sum...just like nokia and others...the crux of the matter is post 2002 sales for which sony/e pays an ongoing royalty...i can see why you didnt go to law school...nokia sold the most units and made the most money...they owe the most to idc....
cute...but the liscence says ericsonn and or its successor corporations...my sixth grader could argue that ericsonn/sony..is the successor to the ericsonn handset division..and therefore fits the criteria of being ericsonn...does it ever end w/ this krap
it was decided when they commercially validated idc's entire portfolio...by signing what was placed in front of them
meaningless..interesting...but meaningless....i still think the sellers have been trapped by this news..god forbid idc releases something good tmmrw....the sellers have had no fear..its time they had some!!
jiff...check wall street city ...they show an afterhours trade of 18.38...the shorts have seen the reaction to their "hole card"...all bets are off..as far as im concerned...there has been selling in anticipation of this release...i think we're sittin on a powderkeg..this baby is tight..rock n roll
jk...your way off on this one...this is a commercial matter at this point...the judge says [shes a smart chick] heres everything...you make your own judgement...as to what needs to be done here...the industry needs this to be settled...not prolonged..idc needs to be taken care of..nokia knows it,ericy knows it,qcom knows it,mot knows it ,i know it and you know it...the mkt didnt blink..imo this is what has held us back in the face of good news...now that its out..we can proceed
sonic...contracts have a way of being signed on everyones terms involved... usually after those terms have been eroded a bit from where they started
the arbitrators have been in control of the situation since judge lynn last ruled...they still are...they will make the decisions here...judge lynne will comply w/ their wishes...nothing has changed...i say let them have a look...we have nothing to hide...ericy had the BENEFIT of the rulings and signed the contract...idc did not hold a gun to their heads
sonic...think of the 400k as bargaining chips for what you really NEED...a clean 3g liscence...no matter what the esteemed counselor ambrose says...jan is when the chips will have to be pushed to the center of the table...as far as im concerned...NEC is the framework for what id like to see happen
there was not a single thing said that i never heard before...i had briefed them before...they asked the same stuff i had spoken w/ them about...they should have studied harder before they made the call...their questions showed how little they really know about the technology .......the average board member is way ahead of them in this regard...while their mkt savvy would be way ahead of the average board member
because im the one who brought the idea to the fund...and they invited me to listen in...rich and janet did a very nice job..and spent a good deal of time on the call
THE POINT is...they could be a 3g trigger...and they should be a 2g trigger
i just participated in a conference call w/ the company and a prospective buyer of shares...rich was on the call w/ janet...ericsonn is a NAMED trigger on the nokia contract for both 2g and 3g
seems to me ...that this news has been part of the drag on the stock since the asm...we had sanyo and a buyback and it still felt as though the sellers didnt care...i said there must have been some bad news about the nokia arb out there...and my instincts were correct...now that its out in the light of day...it doesnt seem so bad
in some perverse way...this might actually help...the arbitrators will now see that ericy had some ammunition to see the case through...yet they willingly signed a contract that requires them to pay ongoing royalties......i hope!!!
i guess thats it then huh...buyback means no liscence....liscence means no buyback...a neat little bow...just like the academians love it
not yet!!...but at some point the answer will be yes
i put in a bunch of orders...it keeps moving away
i wouldnt compare rimm revenues to idc...rimm is a product company working on much smaller margins
i think they will be agressive in the buyback....liscencing is gaining momemtum.....they will get in front of it
kieth richards
the company cant buy until 10 am...i think they will once again make it short and sweet....last time they took the shares that a group of shareholders wanted to sell [bently capital}....this time its more of a wild card
id like to think i know something every now and then...everything has a purpose..even if only to keep the enemy on its toes
i dont think so...this could be the thing that breaks us out of the range
that was a joke...i had the news
yeeeehah!!!
i predict a 1myn share buyback today!!!!!!!!
you cant always get what you want......so youll have to settle for the money coming from japan instead...K.R.
no...idc clearly states in their 10k,s ...that siemans needs to liscence patents not previously liscenced [post 99] in order to implement 3g...given the intermingling of blood lines [infineon idc siemans nec] this one will eventually get done..in fact they'll all get done at some point...but as of now the idc boogieman is still in the closet for most investors
their market share is declining...fate has a way of taking its course
who know's maybe youll see things w/ clarity someday
