Seoul time is 14 hours ahead of King of Prussia. It is now Jan. 7 ( 1 AM). Tick Tock
Steady boys, steady. Don't fire til you see the whites of their eyes. Remember the Alamo, all you Texans! Houston is coming.
NeoInvestor, it is show time. All of the rehearsals up until now have been disasters. The overture has started. Everyone is sweating and have sinking feelings in their guts. Some have quit the company because they can't face the music. The curtain is going up and.....
How can an institutional fund establish a position in IDCC now that Samsung is about to pay and the outlook is positive? There are only small sell orders. In my opinion. They have to wait for Samsung settlement to be announced and profit taking generates some selling. That should absorb the selling and provide another leg up.
M6 Thank you for your message. We don't have huge volume but I suspect there is a small supply and buyers are still cautious.
If buying pressure increases, I believe we will blow through 30.
My pulse rate is increasing and my blood pressure is up. I hope I live until Friday.
The IDCC 6 month chart looks like a beautiful symmetrical reverse head and shoulders. We could be preparing a move higher. Do we still have a chart reading guru on the board. Please give us yoyr interpretation. TIA
nicmar, Ask Jim Cramer.
Hey, all you long term investors, buy IDCC today and hold for one week for a gain of at least 10%. That is a gain of 520% or more annualized.
We are busting through resistance. Any comment from our tech. traders. 5 business days to D-Day.
revlis, What do you think this will mean for IDCC? Will our world-wide licenses cover us or are we headed to court in China?
Grones, Happy new year to you and all from snowy New Jersey
What will IDCC do with $500 million? A special dividend of $5.00 would only cost them less than half that amount. A buyback of 1,000,000 shares would cost less than 2/3. A major acquisition could be made for cash and stock. They could follow Warren Buffet and invest it in a financial company and earn 10% plus warrants. They could be acquired by a growth company that is illiquid. It is a great time to have cash. Any suggestions?
For you skeptics and short sellers, a brief friendly reminder. Samsung payment is next week on Friday.
IDCC is at the high of the day. Maybe, it goes to $30 very soon.
Santa will be a little late this year. He had an unscheduled delay over Seoul and will arrive in early January. The reindeer are suspected of taking a rest stop over Helsinki. Santa determined that Nokia was naughty but Samsung was nice.
Long term investors in IDCC have never stopped believing in Santa and he appreciates it.
Best wishes to all.
Changing the topic, the buying of IDCC is overcoming the selling pressure. This is impressive on a down day for the Dow. Latecomers are advised to jump aboard immediately. JMHO
the net, what do tou think would happen if a fund or other investor bought 50,000-100,000 shares at $25 and above? If the stock were pinned around $25 by short selling, naked or otherwise wouldn't the stock rise in the following weeks as they were forced to cover? TIA
$25 is a cap set by the option sellers. The long term buyers are already in. If new buyers don't show up, Carpenter's readers will get a lower buy point. JMHO
Remember when the Red Sox would be winning by 6 runs in the top of the ninth and you knew, you knew the the Yankees would win the game. That's the way I feel now.( Like a Red Sox fan.)
I am personally thankful that I haved lived long enough to see Interdigital succeed in its struggle with Samsung and soon with the other deadbeats. My family will benefit in the years to come. Happy Thanksgiving.
Over 800,000 shares traded and we are down on the day. Amidst the euphoria, I have been buying. It appears to me that there is significant supply coming onto the market. Any comments ?
What happens to the ICC arbitation money awaiting final judgement in the Southern District court. Is it now available or is it included in the final agreement. Thank you for any thoughts.
General Eisenhower wrote a letter taking reponsibility for the failure of the invasion on the eve of D Day. He was nervous and afraid of failure. Fortunately, he never used that letter. We are tense but need courage on the eve of our historic battle with a determined and treacherous enemy.
whizzeresq, Your message is greatly appreciated because of its clarity. I am still amazed that Samsung would take the risk of a poor negotiating position when I assume that IDCC is offering a FRAND that has been acceptable to the industry.
Settlement is the only business-like decision. JMHO
croth, in 2010, $2.00 will be worth $.50, because of US Treasury dollar creation and either McCain tax cuts or Obama spending increases. I maintain that IDCC has to institute increases in licensing fees immediately. FRAND in 2006 will not be FRAND in 2010. Nokia and Samsung know this and will stall as long as possible. JMHO
IDCC is down less than 1% today. Gold, oil, and commodities are down much more. IDCC represents value despite our legal battles.
Inflation adjusted license fees. It is time for Interdigital to announce an increase in new licensing fees effective Oct 31.
I don't believe that FRAND licensing fees charged in 2003 are still relevant in 2008-9, especially when costs of doing business are rising and phone selling prices are declining. I won't even mention the cost of litigation. JMHO
IDCC shares are very illiquid. It is difficult to buy or sell shares in any quantity. At this rate, there will be a large move on either positive or negative news.
romuluss, IDCC stock action suggests positive news. A move above $26, the high of the day will lead to $27 which is a major breakout above the head and shoulders. GLTA
Chartists, IDCC has a well defined head and shoulders or a cup and handle if you prefer. This is very bullish. Any arguments?
Loop, Your message is the saddest that I have read in a long time. If you ever missed a putt for par or a pin for a spare, you cursed and then went on with the game. Come on, stay in the game. Why? 'cause its no fun if you aren't in it.
New Pricing Strategy Proposal! Interdigital should raise their licensing fees effective Sept.30, 2008 for new licensees to reflect the increased costs of doing business. i.e. higher R&D costs, legal fees, travel costs, etc. The Biotech industry commonly raise drug costs to recover their R&D costs and fund their new research. FRAND in 2004 should not be FRAND in 2008 and later.
I would be interested in comments about this idea. TIA
vtem01, Interdigital has offered FRAND lcensing to numerous companies. Samsung has argued that IDCC is not offering a FRAND licensing agreement to them. I believe that is false.
I suspect that they are trying to find out what are the negotiations with Nokia. Neither Nokia nor Samsung will pay before the other for fear of being at a competitive disadvantage. Samsung will not accept paying more because of a volume discount to Nokia. I don't see how negotiation will resolve this dilemma. We need an embargo of their products which will lead to a much larger loss than the fraction of a licensing fee they are quibbling over. JMHO
Why is the Nokia licensing discussion relevant? IDCC has disclosed its FRAND licensing agreements with numerous licensees to Samsung. I thought the accusation by Samsung was that they were not offered FRAND licensing terms. Is Samsung now arguing about the MFL agreement I understood they had forfeited?
romuluss, Faust thought it was a great idea also until the time came to pay up. Mephistopheles wears many disguises and his latest is at Nokia.
jim_charts, I see a cup and handle which looks very good to me.
Please give me your opinion.
TIA
j70k, please clarify the Samsung implied license defense when Interdigital has not received an acceptable payment. That seems to me to be the weak point of their defense. TIA
Sanjay Dja, the new president of Motorola should know what Interdigital technology would benefit them compared to Qualcomm. do our techncal experts expect an opening toward IDCC in his battle with Apple, Nokia, and Samsung? Is this a gamechanger? TIA
Shallow, You assume that Samsung could be talked into a 3G license for a one time $20-30 million payment. They are a major global corporation. They want a FRAND rate on 3g that is significantly below the IDCC asking rate for the next 15 years.
I suspect that is at least an order of magntude greater than your offer. Do you recommend that Merritt accept their offer?
shallow,
I want IDCC to collect the amount awarded in arbitration. Please include interest for late payment. As for 3G, we have informed Samsung about our licensing fee.
There is no question of revenge. We look forward to a long and productive relationship with Samsung and Nokia.
