Well, since then, the buzz has worn off and developers have seemingly abandoned the platform.
I think Google lost their window of opportunity on this one. The backlash from the public about being recorded without consent has been very impressive. Lots of establishments have made it clear you are not welcome if you enter with a google glass. It's one thing to take out your smartphone and take a pic or selfie at least people are aware you are taking a picture or video.
Intel holding up relatively well during the recent sell off IMHO.
I guess Apple wins this round
I don't think apple has gone for 8 cores yet, maybe they had a good reason for that.
Rumor Google glass will use Intel Chip in next version. I don't think this would mean much in terms of revenue but it would be a nice symbolic win.
Google Glass will return in 2015 with Intel inside, says WSJ

I wonder if these are cannibalizing tablets or higher-end PCs? I suspect tablets.
Mostly tablets, and as been pointed out these are the new netbooks.
Nice to see INTC trading at $36, hope it holds.
It. is open now 36.36
Core M detachable from HP makes it into local best byte weekly flyer, relatively good bang for the buck IMHO.
http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/hewlett-packard-hp-13-3-touchscreen-convertible-laptop-silver-intel-core-m-70-256gb-ssd-8gb-ram-windows-8-1-13-j020ca/10324443.aspx?cmp=fly-14BBnov7-10324443-WDH
When they say core-m is that all broadwell or just a configuration of broadwell?
No way that's all of broadwell, I think that's referring to fan less devices.
Qcom getting clobbered as expected.
QCOM claims CHINA is not paying them their patent dues, well a fabless model does make you more vulnerable to this sort of thing. As I recall QCOM actually went out of the way to give China a better deal on the rates, I guess China wants even a better deal. Intel and every other multinational is vulnerable, the only way to minimize the risk is to let China only be an assembly point and collect patents before assembly. ARM is also very exposed.
So, what’s the big picture mean for Intel’s hardware? It means that I’m more inclined to think that the problems of the Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro are either caused by Lenovo’s design decisions or by power management software. OS level drivers could also be an issue.
Seem to be changing their tune.
Can't trust them with valuable IP.
There has always been an agreement written or unwritten that China, Russia, India etc. always get technology that is at least 1 process node behind. Recent NSA disclosures about backdoors, etc.; have given the Russians a fit, well they can try making their own chips cheaply, but I don't think that's going to happen.
also $30 is quite possible.
At $30 the Dividend will be 3%, to get to 3.5% the price has to drop to $25.
Andy D. Bryant, sold his shares at a price of US$33.40 for about US$5.75 million on October 28.
Probably a programmed sell for him, obviously the timing was good.
INTC down 3% plus today on slightly higher volume, anyone want to speculate why?
I am not sure if people will pay the premium.
Like all technology the premium will come down, there are enough players involved that I don't see HP having a monopoly, personally I am more interested in the mat and projector / scanner combination as a replacement for pen and paper, 20 inches is a nice canvass to have. This could be similar to the analog/digital break that happened with music recording.
HP reveals Sprout
http://www.cnet.com/products/hp-sprout/
The product is the result of a partnership between HP, Microsoft, Intel and 3M.
There's also an Intel RealSense 3D camera,
HP reveals SproutI would definitely like to try one of these out, I still do my best work with pencil and paper. If hp sells the touch pad and overhead cam which appear to make it different than regular P.C. they will not be able to keep up with initial demand, yes I know the software and drivers are just as important, INTC has been talking about all kind of 3D extensions for 3D printing /capturing I wonder if this is the first wave. I can't wait to get some hands on time. Thanks for posting ibc. I don't think the CPU/GPU of a smartphone can do this for at least another 3-5 years.
OTA reason I often just pay with cash.
Tim what do you do with all your spare change. I use to drop it in the plastic cover of a 100 bundle CD container. My mother would come around, collect and process it, take it to the bank and then go shopping for herself. Needless to say she is not pleased with tap and go credit cards/ATM cards. Pennies cost the Canadian Government so much they have stopped minting them, and want retailers to round off. This is all about the fees money changers charge, the technology has changed, but money changers have been around since money.
What I worry about with "near field" transactions is that the physical holding of the card is gone. With NF, anyone who has hacked your credentials can begin to use them.
The Only way I see to limit fraud here is to limit these tap or wave transactions to small amounts say $50-100, and limit the amount of transactions in one day. It's real easy to buy a cup of coffee at Starbucks by taping your credit card. Now should it add 20 cents to the cost and how the 20 cents is divided among all the players is another topic.
OTYes, Elmer, I will cut back on any comments about macroeconomics, tax issues, etc.
Tim you are a colorful character on this forum, nothing wrong with that IMHO. Using O.T. at the start of some posts is helpful something I should do more often. Of course sometimes topics which appear OT are tangentially related to INTC and investments. For Example.
A.) NFC. Apple pay, credit card verification systems. The U.S. dropped the ball here, apple or the U.S. financial system will not be dominant in Europe or Asia, when it comes to transaction fees IMHO. The U.S. dollar became the de -facto world currency because the U.S. was at the wright time at the wright place and played its cards wright, which was good for the U.S. and the rest of the World IMHO.
B.) Redistribution of Societies Wealth. Well the only way major inroads well ever be made here is the elimination of allowing wealth to be passed on to future generations based solely on being related to someone. Don’t worry I don’t see that happening for many generations to come.
C.) Globalization, Multinationals, Tax Inversion. Without a Global Currency and Tax system people and corporations will always find ways to avoid paying Taxes and it will look and be legal depending on the interpretation.Somebody gets to interpret regulations and this is almost never done without bias IMHO.
In the meantime, I'll just use my credit cards. Like a caveman.
In Canada and Europe most credit cards and bank cards come with a smart chip, these allow for small transactions eg. less than $50 to be done by touching the card instead of inserting it into a terminal and entering your PIN, the combination of a smart chip and PIN makes it very secure. I have had my Card Hacked /defrauded about 3 times in the last decade, in most cases it happens after I have been on Vacation and had to sign on a paper transaction the old fashion way. Apple wants a piece of the lucrative transaction fee, I am sure that the banks/credit card companies in Canada and Europe will tell apple to take a hike. The banks in the U.S. have been stupid in not quickly implementing a smart chip credit card system this has given apple a small window of opportunity to get a foothold in the U.S.A.; You can make a small argument touch I.D. makes all transactions more secure, I don't think its worth what apple is asking for it. For large purchases a combination of a pin and smart chip is pretty secure. For small purchases taping the credit card is very fast, the bottle neck in the Tim Hortons/Star bucks line is usually caused by the person paying with cash.
Stacey smith will be on blomberg at 4:30; earnings where o.k., 4th quarter to be up slightly.
In terms form and function it looks almost exactly like my Gigabyte BRIX, the brix has a nicer case. that being said there is so much you can do with small rectangular boxes. I noticed what may be its strongest point is a mini discrete graphics like cooling solution with the intake on top and two exit vents on the side, if this thing is whisper quiet it may be its strongest selling point.
Speaking of small devices the Mac mini will be updated in the next apple event, the current Mac mini is about 2-3 times the size and weight of most NUC devices.
One of the issues with these devices is fan noise, I have a Gigabyte Brix with an i5, I really like using it, I just pop it in my backpack and then set up quickly when I reach my office,I have a monitor, mouse keyboard, and all the cable sitting in my desk. These devices will really be attractive if intel's wireless office imitative gets done well. For such small devices the fan noise can be annoying, I am certain if someone with experience in fan design, heatsinks and airflow did some work on it they could drastically decrease fan noise . Of course Core M needs no fan, but I think it’s still worth working on the fan noise issue for small powerful devices.
Thanks for posting, puts INTC decline in proper perspective with other Semi stocks.
Will await the Intel guidance next week.
Just noticed earnings call is for next Tuesday.
I had some stop limit sell orders at 32,25 in my RRSP(like a 401K), that got triggered, not the end of the world will start buying back if the price keeps falling.

Lenovo coming out with some very attractive products, the yoga tablet pro 2 comes with the screen projector and is powered by an Atom? This model, packed with Android 4.4, ?
Lenovo YOGA 3 Pro Hands-On
There are rumors of a 12-inch Retina MacBook Pro coming out October 21 - maybe Broadwell?
I think there is a small chance apple releases its version of the surface3, apple has a long history of releasing their version of something after others have been trying for years. Hopefully its not just a gold Ipad.
Intel at $34.........well off recent peak
22.48 - 35.56 is the 52 wk range, INTC just closed at 34.26, that's well off the recent peak? INTC seems to have held up nicely since the last earnings call. What makes you think INTC has even started share buyback? If I was short INTC I would not be a happy camper.
Microsoft shooting itself in the foot.
Microsoft to cut Windows 7 OEM supply on 31 October.
http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/2371932/microsoft-to-cut-windows-7-oem-supply-on-31-october
If the new CEO has any brains and nuts he should make it clear the windows 7 will be available indefinitely.
Apple Mac grabs 26.8% U.S. consumer market share
That's very impressive, Mac book pros are relatively big purchase items, so much for people not buying notebooks because they are waiting to buy the new iphones. Most U.S. consumers get subsidised iphones which are not big purchase items. I wonder how the Surface 3 is doing, it does have the windows 8 albatross around its neck.
Wow, reminds me of one of my fishing vests.
Thanks for the link to the lanskin lanyard, I am not sure it fits my lifestyle, but at 19.99 its worth a try. I really like belt clip Holster cases and you can find leather ones for $5-10 on the web of very good quality, if you are clumsy you will drop your phone from a belt holster, so far I have never dropped a phone from a belt clip holster. The apple extended care coverage is $99 for 2 years and two accidental damages, if I buy an iPhone6 or 6 plus in the new year for about $1000 its a no brainer to get the insurance. Nice to see INTC maintaining its share price, I suspect the upgrade cycle for Windows XP has been underestimated by the analysts. I was hoping to see some Apple products with core M for the Holiday season but that does not look like its going to happen, I have a 13 inch aluminum MacBook with a core2 duo which is still very functional after an easy SSD drive upgrade 3 years ago.
Just saw the articles on this. It's 8.0.1.
I have a 4S which I hope is immune to this. the 4S feels tiny compared to a 6 plus but it is sure easy to carry around on your person without a purse, I don't have a man purse yet. Just checked my 4s it has ios 8.0.
ios 8 update causes some new iphone's to drop cellular coverage, apple just pulled the update . I think I downloaded the update last night.
iPhone 6 Vs. iPhone 6 plus availability in Canada.
You can get the unlocked version of any iPhone 6 in 7-10 days from the Canadian Apple web site,of course they are expensive . if you want an iPhone 6 plus you are looking at a wait of least 3-4 weeks. I have a google nexus5, it feels almost exactly like an iPhone 6 in the hand. I don't think anyone with a 4.5-5 inch android phone would ever consider upgrading to an iPhone 6. The demand for the iPhone 6 plus is by i os users who want to give the phablet usage model a spin, it also offer much better value than the iPhone 6 with bigger screen and better camera. The 16g models are terrible bang for the buck buys, the only people buying the 16g models are doing so because they are the only subsidized models available at their carriers. Phablets are pushing the limit of portability IMHO. I thought my Nexus 5 would be awkward with a belt clip case but it feels fine in landscape position and its very light. There are already people complaining of bending there iPhone 6 plus by carrying them in their front pockets.
