Vatican library to begin major renovation
Vatican, May. 8, 2007 (CWNews.com) - Confirming reports that circulated last week, the Holy See's press office has announced that the Vatican library will be closed in July for an extensive renovation project that is expected to take 3 years.
The renovation project was unavoidable, L'Osservatore Romano reports, because of serious structural weaknesses in the 16th-century building. Architects determined that they could not strengthen foundations and floors without closing the building to the public.
The library staff had sought to avoid major disruption of the facility-- for instance, by moving over 300,000 books from rooms in which the floors had begun sagging-- but expert consultants determined that the repairs could not be postponed.
Once the decision was made to undertake the extensive repairs, Vatican officials seized the opportunity to modernize the building, adding air-conditioning and elevator service. The renovations will also allow for an overall reorganization of the library collection.
During the 3-year renovation period, library officials hope to continue providing research services for the 20,000 scholars who visit each year. Most of the items in the library collection will be moved to temporary storage areas, and copies of ancient manuscripts will still be made available.
The Vatican Apostolic Library houses a priceless collection of over 1.6 million books; 75,000 manuscripts; and several thousand documents and scrolls, many of ancient origin. The collection includes the Codex Vaticanus, the oldest known manuscript of the Bible.
The Vatican Library was set up in 1448 by Pope Nicholas V, who provided the first several hundred manuscripts from the collection assembled by previous popes. In 1475, with the bull Ad Decorem Militantis Ecclesiae, Pope Sixtus IV gave the institution formal status, a regular budget, and a librarian. In 1587, Pope Sixtus V commissioned architect Domenico Fontana to design the building that still stands today.

Baseball goes pink on Mother's Day
Players and coaches raise awareness about breast cancer
By Mark Newman / MLB.com
Breast cancer, we have powerful friends on our side.
Those words were on the top of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure homepage on Sunday, and you were probably watching a lot of those powerful friends on this Mother's Day around Major League Baseball. They were guys like Craig Biggio, Ken Griffey Jr., Milton Bradley, Carlos Beltran and more than 200 in all who were swinging bright pink bats. They were all the others wearing pink wristbands and making a statement no one could miss.
Their mission was to make you stop and think about breast cancer. An estimated 178,480 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed among U.S. women in 2007. An estimated 40,460 women who will die from the disease this year. There are statistics that we love to recite as baseball fans; those are not the ones, but that is reality.
The determination baseball showed this Mother's Day will go on, because many of those same pink bats are going to show up at the MLB.com Auction in the days and weeks ahead. All proceeds will go to Komen, with those funds earmarked for scientific research as well as treatment and public-awareness initiatives. It is not known yet which bats will be auctioned and when they will be listed.
Major League Baseball and its fans collectively raised $350,000 last year in that unprecedented first usage of symbolic pink bats on Mother's Day, and the goal this time is at least $1 million.
"I think [the charity] is great," said Biggio, who reached base four times for Houston with a pink bat, including twice on doubles to move within 34 hits of 3,000. "My mom was a breast cancer survivor, so I'm very happy to use one and and raise money for that. I think MLB stepping up and including more guys in it this year is going to make more money for the cause, and I think it's a great thing, I really do."
"What else can you ask for?" said Raul Ibanez, one of the Seattle players who swung pink during that dramatic 2-1 Mariners victory at home over the Yankees. "You get this opportunity and platform to do some good in the community and raise awareness, and I think we accomplished that with the pink bats and the pink wristbands, and you have to credit MLB for doing that, and all the guys that used them. It's great."
"It's very special to use the pink bats. Moms are very special in everyone's life," Ryan Zimmerman said after swinging one of those pink Louisville Sluggers in Washington's victory at home over Florida. "To see how it's grown -- not too many people used it last year. It seems like everybody is using it now. I think it's a good thing that they auction the bats off to raise money."
Fans can also purchase their own personalized pink bat at the MLB.com Shop, or www.slugger.com, with Major League Baseball donating $10 from the sale of each bat to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure. It is all part of an overall "Going to Bat Against Breast Cancer" program conducted by MLB and Komen, incorporating numerous facets of the game, both on and off the field, to generate awareness about breast cancer and raise funds to help fight the disease. The initiative runs until this Saturday.
As all players return to their normal bat models, attention on the pink bats will move to the MLB.com Auction. The bats will gradually show up in batches as a rolling auction, so just be sure to check there regularly this next month. And prepare for some competition, because there is a chance you could own:
• A pink bat Beltran used to launch that massive home run high off the right-field foul pole during the Mets' big eighth inning of a 9-1 rout of those high-flying Brewers at Shea Stadium. Or maybe the one Bill Hall used to hit yet another pink homer in the last inning -- just as he did so famously for that walk-off homer one year ago against those same Mets.
• A pink bat Bradley used to hit a game-tying, two-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth for Oakland against Cleveland -- setting up Jack Cust's walk-off winner. Or maybe the one Griffey used for career homer No. 570, passing Rafael Palmeiro on the all-time list.
• A pink bat Cristian Guzman swung for a two-run triple in Washington's 6-4 victory at home against the Marlins. Or maybe the one Jeff Kent swung for a big Dodgers homer.
Biggio said he was planning to give the bat that resulted in the doubles to his daughter.
Everyone has been talking about pink bats. Everyone has been looking at the bats the same way Hideki Matsui looks at his bat before each pitch. That was the whole plan. Just ask Mark Teixeira, whose mother Margy is a breast cancer survivor.
"It's very important for me," said Teixeira, who swung a pink bat along with the entire Rangers lineup in their 7-6 comeback victory over the Angels in Arlington. "With what my mother went through, and with the Susan G. Komen foundation doing so much good for women around the world, it's important to me."
Adam Kennedy used a pink bat for one of the Cardinals' three hits against San Diego, and then said of the realities of breast cancer: "I think everybody, either directly or indirectly, has someone. And if not, the awareness of the possibility of it occurring is important."
Griffey -- who leads all active players with an amazing six Mother's Day homers -- ordered multiple bats and plans on giving one to his mother and one to his wife, just like he did last year. "It's special to me," he said, "because it represents two of the three most important people in my life."
• Game goes to bat for breast cancer
---American League--- Angels Athletics Blue Jays Devil Rays Indians Mariners Orioles Rangers Red Sox Royals Tigers Twins White Sox Yankees
---National League--- Astros Braves Brewers Cardinals Cubs Diamondbacks Dodgers Giants Marlins Mets Nationals Padres Phillies Pirates Reds Rockies The use of pink bats was entirely voluntary. Baseball is a game of "feel" if you are a hitter. Consider the case of Tampa Bay first baseman Carlos Pena. He originally signed up to swing pink, and although he remains a strong supporter of the initiative, Pena said he didn't like how the bat felt during batting practice. He ended up having to make a change back to his regular one, and the result was a seventh-inning homer that drove home the game-winning run in the ninth at Toronto.
"Sometimes you got to make a decision before the game about which one feels good and say, 'I'm going with this one,'" Pena said after the game.
Cust wasn't able to use a pink bat when he launched that dramatic walk-off hit to the opposite field to beat Cleveland at Oakland. He was in the Minors with a different organization 11 days ago and wasn't expected to be in the Majors on Mother's Day. He did, however, wear a pink wristband.
Jim Thome, who lost his mother, Joyce, in January 2005 after a year-long battle with lung cancer, didn't play for the White Sox on Sunday as he continues to work his way back from a right ribcage strain that landed him on the 15-day disabled list. But in order to pay proper tribute, Thome -- who homered with a pink bat last year -- used the pink bat during his morning batting practice session.
"This is a great day to reflect, especially with my wife and now, us having children," said Thome, whose White Sox club lost, 11-1, to Kansas City. "It makes it worth reflecting on what they gave you."
Such sentiments were widespread around the game on Sunday. In Oakland, a knob of a pink bat included the words "Love you, Mom." In Denver, someone in the Giants' clubhouse wrote on a markerboard: "Make your moms proud!" It was a day for players to think about family and what's important in life, and the overarching message was for everyone to think about a disease that the Komen foundation is now in its 25th year of trying to help find a cure and improve treatment and early screening methods.
During Sunday's games, Major League players wore pink wristbands, pink ribbons were displayed on player uniforms as well as on those of all on-field personnel. The breast cancer awareness theme was carried throughout each game, including pink-ribbon logos on the bases and commemorative home plates, and pink dugout lineup cards. Team-autographed commemorative home plates, pink bats and lineup cards from each ballpark also will be listed on the MLB.com Auction at a later date to raise additional funds for Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Those aren't the only ways that baseball and its fans are taking action. During the "Going to Bat Against Breast Cancer" program, fans can support the initiative by logging onto an MLB-themed microsite (www.komen.org/mlb) and making a monetary pledge in the name of a specific team or to the general cause. Donations made in a team's name will go to programs in that team's community to support breast health and breast cancer awareness. The donations can be made at five different levels: "Single" ($25), "Double" ($50), "Triple" ($75), "Home Run" ($100) and "Grand Slam" ($250). Major League Baseball Charities has also committed an additional $50,000 on top of the fan donation total. Each individual club has its own fundraising goal toward that overall $1 million target set by MLB and Komen.
"Major League Baseball is proud to again partner with Susan G. Komen for the Cure to help raise awareness and funds for a disease that affects so many women and their families," Commissioner Bud Selig said of the continued efforts. "It is important to all of us in baseball that our clubs, players, licensees and fans give back to our communities in such a meaningful way."
Robby Hammock was one of many Diamondbacks players who took pink bats up to the plate during their team's 5-2 loss to Biggio and the Astros. At the end of this day, it was about much more than a win or a loss in the standings.
"I just like the message that it sends to anyone watching," Hammock said. "That Major League Baseball supports Mother's Day and those who have battled breast cancer."
I remember that class too......LOL
All though the final exam for physics was always a memorable experience..
The question for the final was: You pick up a pencil and set it back down..What happened?
Only received an 88 but was happy to get it. Toughest class I ever had. I don't remember much now 24 years later.. But I do remember friday's close very well...LOL
What happened to you kind sir? Did you leave us here in ETIM land? What gives?
DD from an archive post on Ihub and resently updated by our friend Tex from another board.
Note: During this phase of our development it helps when those who are somewhat unclear on certain issues can review good material... this is a helpful read. I know many of you already know this stuff but there are newb's also. I think the more all of us understand these facts the more educated our shareholders will be in their investment.
Best to all and happy Mothers Day.

General Questions
1. How do I buy or sell stock in a company that is quoted on the OTC Bulletin Board ® (OTCBB)?
The process of buying or selling OTCBB stock is the same as buying or selling any other stock. You must open an account with a broker (a party that executes buy and sell orders). You cannot buy OTCBB stock directly from the OTCBB or the OTCBB.com.
2. Can a security be traded on the OTCBB and NASDAQ ® at the same time?
No. The OTCBB is a quotation service for securities which are not listed or traded on NASDAQ or a national securities exchange.
3. What are some of the differences between companies quoted by an OTC quotation service and companies listed on a stock market?
Stock markets (including NASDAQ and the registered exchanges, such as NYSE or AMEX) have specific quantitative and qualitative listing and maintenance standards, which are stringently monitored and enforced. Companies listed on a stock market have reporting obligations to the market, and an on-going regulatory relationship exists between the market and its listed companies. OTC quotation services (OTCBB, Pink Sheets) facilitate quotation of unlisted securities. As such, any regulatory relationship between an OTC quotation service and the issuers may be relatively limited or non-existent.
4. What is the difference between OTC, other-OTC and OTC Bulletin Board (OTCBB)? And where do the Pink Sheets fit in?
An over-the-counter (OTC) security is generally considered to be any equity security that is not listed on NASDAQ, NYSE or AMEX. The OTCBB and the Pink Sheets are both quotation services for OTC securities. NASDAQ operates the OTCBB service and permits NASD members to quote any OTC security that is current in certain required regulatory filings (see Listing requirements ). The Pink Sheets is a privately owned company that permits NASD members to quote any OTC security and does not maintain regulatory filing requirements. An OTC security can be dually quoted on both the OTCBB and the Pink Sheets. As well, there are many OTC securities that are not quoted on either the OTCBB or the Pink Sheets; however, they have trading symbols assigned to them so NASD members can comply with trade reporting obligations and report transactions in these securities. These securities are sometimes said to be on the "grey market".
Other-OTC/NBB . Any OTC security that is not quoted on the OTCBB but is eligible for trade reporting on the Automated Confirmation Transaction Service (ACT) is categorized as "other-OTC" or non-Bulletin Board (NBB). You will see both of these terms throughout the OTCBB.com website. This includes, but is not limited to, securities quoted on the Pink Sheets. Because other-OTC securities are not quoted on the OTCBB, you will not be able to access quotes on these stocks through the OTCBB.com website, the NASDAQ Workstation II, or any other NASDAQ product. If they are quoted on the Pink Sheets, you may be able to obtain quotes for other-OTC securities on the Pink Sheets website at www.pinksheets.com.
5. What is the correct way to refer to the OTCBB or securities quoted on the OTCBB?
Correct and accurate terminology when referencing the OTC Bulletin Board are as follows:
OTC Bulletin Board
Quoted on the OTC Bulletin Board
Listing and Eligibility Requirements
6. What are the "listing" requirements for the OTCBB?
Because the OTCBB is a quotation service for NASD Market Makers, not an issuer listing service or securities market, there are no listing requirements that must be met by an OTCBB issuer. Accordingly, there are no financial requirements and there is no minimum bid price requirement.
7. Are OTCBB companies considered to be "listed"?
No, the OTCBB is not an issuer listing service, and there is no listing agreement between either the OTCBB or NASDAQ and the issuer. There are, however, certain requirements an issuer must meet in order for its securities to be eligible for a market maker to enter a quotation on the OTCBB.
8. What are the eligibility requirements for the OTCBB?
In order for a security to be eligible for quotation by a market maker on the OTCBB, the security must be registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) or other federal regulatory authority that has proper jurisdiction (see below) and the issuer must be current in its required filings with such federal authority.
Domestic issues quoted on the OTCBB are limited to the following securities:
securities of issuers that make current filings pursuant to Section 13 or 15(d) of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 ("Act");
securities of depository institutions that are not required to make filings under the Act, but file publicly available reports with their appropriate regulatory authorities;
securities of registered closed-end investment companies; and
securities of insurance companies that are exempt from registration under Section 12(g)(2)(G) of the Act.
Foreign issues and ADRs must be registered with the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) pursuant to Section 12 of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934.
9. How many market makers are required for a security to be on the OTCBB?
A minimum of one market maker is needed.
10. What are the listing fees for the OTCBB?
There are no listing fees for the OTCBB. Market makers do pay a fee for participating in the OTCBB of $6 per security per month.
11. Does the OTCBB have shareholder approval rules?
No. The OTCBB does not have shareholder approval rules.
12. Is an OTCBB issuer required to have an audit committee?
OTCBB issuers may choose to have an audit committee, and certain OTCBB issuers may be required to have an audit committee by virtue of an applicable law or rule. However, the OTCBB rules do not separately require OTCBB issuers to establish or maintain an audit committee.
13. How does a company get on the OTCBB?
An issuer may not submit an application directly to be quoted on the OTCBB. A market maker must sponsor the security and demonstrate compliance with SEC Rule 15c211 before it can initiate a quote in a specific security on the OTCBB.
14. How does a security delisted from NASDAQ or an exchange get on the OTCBB?
For a security being delisted from NASDAQ, NYSE, or AMEX, a Market Maker must file a Form 211 and a Form 211 Addendum.
15. Can a company be "delisted" or removed from the OTCBB?
OTCBB issuers that become delinquent in their required regulatory filings will have their securities removed from the OTC Bulletin Board. Further, all OTCBB issues must maintain at least one registered Market Maker to remain on the OTCBB. When the last Market Maker in a security withdraws from the stock, the issue is removed from the OTCBB after 4 days pursuant to Rule 15c2-11. An issuer cannot voluntarily withdraw from the OTCBB; only a market maker can voluntarily withdraw it's quote from the OTCBB. If an OTCBB security becomes listed on NASDAQ or an exchange, it will no longer be eligible and will be removed from the OTCBB.
16. Can a company appeal the removal of its securities?
The issuer of a security quoted on the OTCBB may appeal the removal of its securities to a Hearings Panel that consists of independent persons appointed by the NASD board. The pool of panellists includes accountants, investment bankers, corporate officers and securities lawyers. A request for a hearing will stay the determination to remove the securities pending a determination by the Hearing Panel. Such requests should be faxed to the Hearings Department at 301.978.8080 no later than 4:00 pm , two business days prior to the scheduled removal date. All hearings will be governed by the Rule 9700 Series of the NASD Rules. Hearings are limited to the question of whether the issuer is current in its required filings.
17. May a company appeal the Panel's decision?
Yes. The issuer may appeal the Panel's decision to the NASDAQ Listing and Hearing Review Council ("NLHRC"). The NLHRC may also decide to call the decision for review. The appeal to the NLHRC does not stay the Panel's determination; consequently, a company that has been removed by the Panel will not be reinstated prior to a final determination by the NLHRC. If the NLHRC overturns the Panel, then the company's securities may be reinstated on the OTCBB. After a determination by the NLHRC, the company may appeal to the SEC, and, from there, it may proceed to the Federal court system.
Form 211 (SEC Rule 15c2-11)
18. What is a Form 211?
The Form 211 is the form which must be completed and submitted to NASD OTC Compliance Unit to initiate or resume quotations in the OTCBB, the "Pink Sheets", or any other comparable quotation medium pursuant to SEC Rule 15c2-11
19. After a Form 211 is filed, how long until the security can begin quotation on the OTCBB?
There is no standard time to process a 211 and clear the market maker to begin quoting a security on the OTCBB. The time it takes to review a 211 may vary significantly depending on many factors including whether or not NASD has to request additional information from the market maker that submitted the form and upon how long it takes the market maker to respond to requests for additional information.
20. How do I check the status of a Form 211 filing?
Contact the. NASD OTC Compliance Unit Please note that the Form 211 review process is proprietary and, thus, NASD will only discuss details of the filing or review directly with the firm that submitted the Form 211.
21. Do financials submitted with the Form 211 have to be audited?
Yes, the periodic reporting requirements under NASD Rule 6530 require annual audits of an OTCBB issuer's financial statements. However, current NASD rules do not require the financial statements of Pink Sheet issuers to be audited, but they should be prepared in accordance with GAAP or, for foreign issuers, in accordance with their home country's accounting standards.
22. Do I have to file a Form 211 for a security delisted from NASDAQ?
A delisted Nasdaq Issuer that wishes to be quoted on the OTCBB should contact their market makers to request that they complete a Form 211 for review and processing
23. Do I have to file a Form 211 for a New York Stock Exchange or American Stock Exchange delisted security?
Yes. Prior listing on NYSE or AMEX does not exempt a Market Maker from the Form 211 filing requirement.

Becoming a Donor
Gifts of objects associated with baseball's history are essential to the growth and educational potential of the Baseball Hall of Fame and are actively sought by the Museum. Past donations have provided our Museum with the outstanding collections that continue to appeal to all generations from varied backgrounds throughout the world. There are, however, many great stories from the past and present which need acknowledgment in our exhibition program. The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum acquires appropriate objects for its collections solely through gifts from the general public and amateur and professional baseball organizations. We invite you to contribute to the Museum's holdings and become an active participant in the Hall of Fame's future.
All objects submitted for acquisition are reviewed by members of the Museum's Accessions Committee, which is charged with accepting only those items of historic significance which support the Museum's education and exhibit programs. Only after this group gives its approval do submitted objects become registered artifacts.
If you own an object that is part of our Pastime's history and you would be interested in sharing it with fans everywhere, not only at the present time, but for generations to come, then we would like to hear from you. To ensure that the Accessions Committee has all the information it needs to properly evaluate your proposed donation, please be sure to submit the following information:
A photograph of the object
A brief description of the piece, including dimensions
All available information on the age and origin of the object

AF's are coming. imo simple as that...
If it drops, I'll buy more shares at a lower price...I realize from prior experience on companys' producing AF's and preparing for uplisting often go through many difficulties during the process. Rarely does anything thing get completed on time..Just like building a home...Construction is almost never done on time..Its the nature of things... So if EI is delayed on any phase of development this year or next...It doesn't really mean anything in terms of the values at hand. The priorities begin with product and market, supply and demand. Proper management doesn't mean things are always in the companys' control..Working with accounting firms requires a certain understanding be observed, one of patience and staying informed amoung the principles involved. They are often handling many clients simultaneously. Filing and uplisting also involve matters out of the companys' control.. Like waiting in line at DMV except on a much larger scale...The SEC is limited in their staffing and their case load often piles up causing further delays in meeting time line goals. Many CEO's will not PR specific dates regarding Financials and SEC Uplistings.
Hang in there, I bought some 53s last week too..for the bank. I need another bonus check! Before it gets more costlier..Can I say that "Costlier" funny..

That was the end of the 504's you know that, plus all of the distributors that signed up all over the East Coast helped as well. the triple zero bounce to 8 was with some hype yes or perhaps, but the speculation formed with the PR's on the companys' pipeline for distribution were forming at that time as well. There by attracting buyers or investors in mid Feb. of which many still hold all of those shares. I think the mm's are drawing a chart to their specifications and goals regardless of trading activity..(some days/most days) ...
