Ms. C,
I am only on this board to test Matt and his promised fair enforcement of the TOS.
That is not the purpose of this board. As such it raises the question should ALL of your posts be deleted since you openly admit you intend to disurpt the board.
As for your new point,
How many well known and now considered successful CEO's throughout history lack a "formal" education? How many have had personal financial dificulties? How many have had numerous failed businesses? How many have made enemies that sought to denigrate their reputation? How many made mistakes? You'd be surprised at the number of actual convicted felons that have reshaped their lives and become successful legitimate business men and women.
You obviously have spent a lot of time researching the personal information of the the man you call Fred as if you have a personal relationship with him. So much so that you may be over the line and into invasion of privacy issues. Further much of what you rail about is out of context and largely irrelevant repetition of the same "he is a crook, this is a scam rhetoric". Were I the target of you victriolic diatribe I would be exploring the Cyberstalking laws to seek relief from you assault.
You have now made the same attack three times. Yes it is worded differently each time but the underlying theme is the same. As such it is thread disruption. This is your final warning. Any repeat of the "Fred is a crook, ASTN is tied to the mob, ASTN is a scam" will be removed.

Hi John,
...so we're having a big cookout tonight down at their hacienda overlooking the lake.
It's so nice to hear about someone enjoying their grandchildren so much... a reminder of what's really important in life.
Must be a good company, with quite a bit of potential,...
As for ASTN, we are all awaiting the release of the annual report. I don't expect it to be all bright and cheery as this last year hasn't been what everyone had hoped for. There's the COH issue... but I still remain hopeful that eVWAP can eventually be very profitable. My position on this, and has been from the beginning, is that it is high risk.
It did have a nice close on Friday, but I suspect it will be trading in the range that it has been until the next break through. IMO, it's a continued opportunity to be accumulating.
Enjoy that cookout!
Sara : )
It certainly is disheartening. Somebody compiled these statistics... what I'd like to see is the detailed backup... like exactly which ones have done what. Could be useful info for next election.
Sara : )
TOS will be strictly enforced on this board.
"I am only on this board to test Matt and his promised fair enforcement of the TOS."
That is not topic for discussion on this board. If you came here looking for a fight, please take it elsewhere (The Parking Lot). You may post about ASTN, but you may not post repetative or disruptive posts or personal attacks.
Sara
Excellent points, Bird of Prey!
"Why bother to try and remain listed if you are going..."
Agree. And I don't have the exactly quote, but I do believe that Fred has said that he's not concerned about delisting. It's not a great thing to have happen, but I certainly prefer the company focusing on getting the product ramped up and profits coming in than worry about that issue.
What say you Sara? Do complicated software projects ever have unforseen obstacles that slow their development?
It's almost something you can plan for! and especially with the case of a brand new product being introduced. Part of what I think we may be seeing with eVWAP is called iterative development. Booch (one of the three Amigos) talks about this process in his UML Distilled book:
"The construction phase consists of many interations, in which each interation builds production-quality software, tested and integrated, that satisfies a subset of the requirements of the product. The delivery many be external, to early users, or purely internal."
back to another one of your points...
"Just because someone got sued for wrong doing doesn't mean the people that hired him did anything wrong."
Totally agree with your take on that issue BoP. There is a good article "Betrayal on Wall Street" that discusses how the small companies were most often the victims.
Have a great saturday!

once again - a personal thank you to iiag and mrE for answering my question earlier in the day
7,328,000 is the total eVWAP volume for the week, second largest volume week in system history.
thats about 30% of the average volume required in a week for profitability on the assumption of .01 cents revenue per share. on that assumption, 23,000,000 revenue shares are required to break even in a given week.
its been 15 weeks since 3/31/01. in that time the system has seen about 58,000,000 revenue shares. average revenue shares per week is just shy of 3.9 million, average revenue shares per day about 0.78 million.
under the .01 cent per share scenario, a profitable year would require volumes of the following, starting next week:
30.7 million revenue shares per week
6.15 million revenue shares per day or 3.08x2 million shares crossed per day
in essence, the system needs to see still another order of magnitude increase in usage to achieve profitability, assuming a steady ramp up from current levels we are looking at needing to be at 20 or 30 times current volumes at fiscal years end.

Muel,
eVWAP is the product that Ashton/UTTC is trying to launch. There is a link to an article about it in the iBox. Basically the volume indicates the actual shares being traded via the eVWAP system and also represents revenues for the company. I'll dig up some of the posts that relate eVWAP activity to revenues more specifically.

regarding license delay...
By: eastcoaster10 $$$
Reply To: 2975 by eastcoaster10 $$$ Thursday, 12 Jul 2001 at 10:33 AM EDT
Post # of 2983
Clarifying the Brazilian delay is appropriate. Here's my understanding of it. Management was told that upon approval by FIMA that the mine met environmental standards, the license would be issued by IBAMA, the mining authority, in a matter of days. Hence, when management received the approval from FIMA three weeks ago, they told us what they had been told and expected the license in a few days.
Unfortunately, the person from IBAMA who has to sign the license is the head of the district in Cuiaba. But the old head left and a new one is taking his place. That new official hasn't arrived yet. He's in the process of moving. So our license sits on a desk waiting for the head to take office, which we're told will happen by August 1 at the latest and hopefully a lot sooner.
Choose what you want to believe. I absolutely think it's true and trust management. Personally though, I hope a bunch of people get scared and dump their shares. As I said, I have a bid in at 12 cents.
I'd like to add that management has resisted several attempts by self-interested parties that has not made them (management) beloved by those interests, but it has made me trust and appreciate our present management for protecting my interests as an average shareholder. Basically, there are some wolves out there who would love to see management removed so they can press their own agendas.
So any time you see a call on this board to remove management, ask yourself what might be behind the call? Is it interests who want to buy 9.6 million new shares at 8 cents per share, diluting us more than 33 percent? Or is it from others who want to have rights to buy certain types of produced diamonds under favorable conditions and/or want their friends put in positions of authority?

greg,
Now that I went looking for it, I think that list had been part of the biotech seminar at the Fool and I had printed it so I can't provide a link to it.
But the link in the iBox above for CenterWatch has clinical trial info, it's just indexed more from a disease point of view rather than by company.
I'll keep looking to see if I can find something better...

greg,
Welcome to the wonderful world of biotech! I find it very fascinating and very satisfying to know that we are funding research and development of products that could cure people of diseases... and maybe we can even make some money too!
As to your question, yes, IMO biotech companies have been around enough to have some "gorillas". I'm not sure I'm expert enough to give you a definitive list, but I suspect Genentech would be one of them (don't rush out and buy that without some thorough DD, I think they recent had some bad news). Also, some of these companies already have products approved and have others just have products in their pipeline. Some companies have many projects in their pipeline and some have only one or two. I remember seeing a nice list of companies and what's in their pipeline... I'll try to find that and post a link to it here.
It's also helpful to understand what the risks are based on the Phase the project is in. Relatively, Phases I & II have a much higher rate of drop out, but even at the final stages the FDA could reject a product... that's where the high risk comes in.
Anyway, I hope you find this industry as interesting as I do and hope that we can be of help to you in getting started learning about it.
Sara
p.s. MotleyFool occassionally has a biotech seminar that's worth taking.

Great article, 2desire...
Thought this excerpt had a particularly interesting lead...
Two interesting names
Longman is intrigued by two small companies: Neurocrine Biosciences (NBIX, news, msgs), which owns all the rights to an insomnia drug now in Phase II testing, and Icos (ICOS, news, msgs), which is close to receiving approval for a potency drug that would compete with Pfizer's (PFE, news, msgs) Viagra. While Icos is in a 50-50 partnership with Eli Lilly (LLY, news, msgs), its drug doesn't make people see blue-green, nor does it interact badly with heart drugs, as Viagra does, according to Longman.

You are badly misinformed, and your posts are garbage.
The trading losses from ATG Trading that you are trying to convince us are a smoking gun are anything but -- they were fully reported in prior quarterly reports and discussed here at great length. They have nothing to do with the liquidity that gave rise to the 8 Million share day 10 days ago, and I doubt it is even a substantial component of the 70 MM shares of liquidity eVWAP now says it has available on a daily basis. Given the numbers ($300,000 in trading losses and $600,000 in commissions and clearing charges on ATG Trading trades over a full year), it looks like the trading losses are thinning, not getting wider -- it'd be interesting to compare the year end number to the numbers in earlier quarters this year to see if my perception is right in that regard. And with improved analytics and other approaches mentioned by Fred in the last 2 webcasts, it will be interesting to see if they are still losing money on ATG Trading commitment trades in this quarter.
The company's burn rate is at or very near $1 Million per month according to numerous company officials, not between $1.5 MM and $2 MM as you assert. As the press release indicates, the $20 Million plus loss for this past fiscal year included several large one-time accounting write-offs relating to eMC. And last year's much narrower loss included several one time income items relating to Gomez that were non-recurring. The press release clearly reflects that operating losses have narrowed from last year -- the burn rate is smaller, and there is actually the faint beginnings of incoming revenue. Indeed, your posts this afternoon beg the following question: Do you actually know how to read a financial statement?
The 70 Million shares of liquidity are the total shares available to be matched on a committed basis -- that's daily "commitments" from 3rd party liquidity providers that are now available in the system (a "commitment" is a type of trade that the system and the SEC approval expressly recognizes and allows -- the committer agrees to match an unmatched trade in advance, irrespective of the direction of the match, up to a maximum amount of shares). The fact that committers are stepping up to the tune of 70 Million shares a day and that ASTN can report that in a public document is exceedingly good news for eVWAP and ASTN investors, no matter how you try to spin it. The guarantied fill program sounds like it may be aimed at addressing the trade allocation problems raised by the large list players who have thus far not been using the system due to so-called back room issues. Another positive development, if you ask me.
Hey, some of ASTN's critics (maybe even you) were saying only a short while ago that ASTN probably wouldn't even file the 10K within the 15-day extension period - Mary was posting the date it was due earlier today so we could all see for ourselves. Well, we're seeing - it was filed ahead of the deadline. It must be very disappointing to you and Mary that they did that. But it is nothing compared to the disappointment you will feel when ASTN comes through for its stockholders. Today, they posted 2 1/2 Million shares on eVWAP -- on a Monday. Which underscores the key point here -- it is volume that will determine if this company makes it or not, not the garbage you and others like you are posting.
You and mary have been posting non-stop for weeks now - you all seem to be in a big hurry to close the lid on the coffin. But there's a problem -- there is no corpse. The company is still alive and well, and if I read my press release correctly, it will be doing a lot more in the weeks and months ahead than we have seen so far. Time will tell, eh?
BTW, I start an 8-day vacation out west tomorrow. So I won't be posting much (if at all) until late next week. Who will you have to kick around then?
Good luck, ASTN longs!

text from the pr follows with comments in parenthesis ....
Salaries and benefits totaled $5.8 million and $3.6 million in the years ended March 31, 2001 and 2000, respectively, as staff increased from 43 to 56 employees. Approximately $1.6 million and $.3 million was paid for outsourced labor in the years ended March 31, 2001 and 2000, respectively.
(it was commented by another today that the average salary is exhorbitant. it isnt. the average for salary AND benefits averaged about 100k per employee. a standard mark-up for an hourly employee is in the 1.5 to 2.1 range. benefits arent cheap, and you have at least a 7.5% mark-up on social security alone. 100k/1.5 is more like 67k per year salary. considering the few high dollar people we know about, seems to me that they must have a number of people not making very much money at all. the average salary is emminently reasonable from this stockholders perspective.
my experience with consulting fees is they run from 55-110 per hour in the engineering market. i speculate they had between 5 to 10 contractors working on a full time basis over the period ending 3/31/01. depending on the why and how of using contract labor, it can be a very good or a very bad thing.)
In addition, during the year ended March 31, 2001, losses on trading activities relating to ATG Trading LLC includes $.3 million in net realized losses on trades, and $.6 million in related broker commissions, execution and clearing charges.
(i'm pretty happy to see the trade losses were so low. i cant for the life of me understand how they could provide contraside liquidity on their own and then profit from it by trading against it during the day. strikes me as betting against the house in vegas - the odds are against you. i speculate from the remarks in a previous fwf that this was the result of an experiment that stopped some time back)
