how is westergard currently relevant to ASTN??? Is the suit he is involved in implicating ASTN in any wrong doing? NO.
"The value of astn stock is artificially inflated because of this."
You said yourself he is no longer promoting ASTN so how can this be true? The price seems pretty low to me and may go lower, but is certainly not being artificially inflated... the long term trend has been that it has been dropping, not inflating. You statement is not in touch with reality.
Sara
"he wouldn't just hire anyone off the street. If he did not dd, he is not a good ceo. If he did the dd, he saw who they were and wanted to hire them anyway."
At least you are now acknowleging that there might be several explanations... he might have been recommended by someone who didn't give Fred all the info... the info may not have been as readily available back then... and yes, he may not have done his DD... that's a whole lot different than you saying that he must have known.
Sara
and ASTN was not implicated in any way.
so basically you're off base.

"Added a second step to TOS violations"
It works great!

Again, old news...
and ASTN was not implicated in any way.
Sara
Yes, another good respected TA opinion. But I believe the Candlestick analysis was looking more at the short term and Gore's post was more long term oriented.
IMO the Candlestick analysis provides a reasonable explanation.
Sara
"I know you know this."
Again you do not know my mind the same as you do not know Fred's.
"west is no longer promoting astn."
Exactly why all the lawsuit info you post about him is no longer relevant.
"Who else would be posting positive things about a company in such dire straits."
Shareholders hoping that ASTN will overcome it's current troubles and be successful.
"he should have known this."
But you have no proof that he did know when he hired him, that is just your accussation. You do not know other peoples minds. That's where you argument falls apart.

i am only tracking the eVWAP volume for this fiscal year as reported on the phlx.
there is also a component of volume that is unreported which is the nasdaq trading on croixnet. the only knowledge we have about that volume is what was reported in the 7/27 fwf - which was stated to be 1.1 million shares total over 13 trading days. i think it is wonderful that the company not only introduced a new product, but did it independantly of an exchange. i also think that folks should not be looking to eVWAP nasdaq volume as a hidden income that greatly increases atg financial position. the company has chosen to not announce those volumes, i would expect they will when it is to thei8r advantage, e.g. when the volume is large enough to advertise to non-users and to attract investors.
the data i track is revenue shares - shares crossed x 2.
now that the basis of the data is known, the answers to the questions are:
1) "Was this the first week in eVWAP history where 4 out of the 5 trading days had eVWAP volume above 1 million shares?"
no. there was one other week, the one ending 8/10/01 (friday). of the 21 weeks this year, there have been 3 weeks with three days >1 mill, 9 weeks with 2 such days, 2 weeks with two such days, and 5 weeks with no such days.
2) "If Monday is a million plus share day, will this be are first string of 4 consecutive days?"
yes. a string of three >1 mill days has happened twice before as well, but never 4.
3) "Was the low day volume this week the highest weekly low?"
yes. the previous two highest weekly lows were 498,000 on 7/24 and 330,400 on 7/20.

Hi Reid... have a question for you.
I was wondering what indicators you look for when looking for a trend reversal? Are there different aspects to a short term reversal (if there is such a thing) vs. a long term reversal?

"He said astn would be at $30 in 1999."
Do you believe he is still promoting ASTN? And UMCC, BIKR, all that you are talking about is very old news. I don't see anyone these days saying it will be at $30 anytime soon. So how does any of this indicate manipulation in the little price jump today? IMO it seems like normal stock behavior easily explained by TA.
Sara
It made perfect sense if you look at the TA for ASTN right now.

Do you have any concrete evidence to back up your suspicions of manipulation?

That is old news that you've talked about over and over. There is nothing in that post that says anything about ASTN. What connection is there to that item to ASTN besides that it involved Westergard?
Where's the link to the original document?

Diamond "Rivals" in Friendly Merger - Brazil
Thursday, August 23, 2001
One-time "rivals" - Canadian junior explorers Diagem International Resources (CDNX: DGM) and Emerging Africa Gold (EAG) - are merging to form a stronger, combined company, Diagem's COO Tony Wood told BNamericas.com.
The two companies both have exploration interests in the Juina diamond district of Mato Grosso state, central-western Brazil.
"We started out when Emerging Africa bought into its project last year, as rivals in fierce competition seeking to raise finance in a very tough market. We were both after the limited amount of cash available from the same sources," he said.
"But as time went on it became clear we had different skills and experiences, and as our projects were at different stages, there were in fact many synergies between us. We became more co-operative over time: we've been helping them, and they've been helping us."
Vancouver-based Diagem has a 100% interest in 140,000ha at Juina where it is constructing two processing plants to treat alluvial gravels and weathered kimberlite. It has identified six undeveloped kimberlite pipes that need to be bulk sampled.
Montreal-based EAG has a 51% interest in the Claim 1000 property, Juina, and is ready to process alluvial gravels, once authorities issue environmental permits, after completely redesigning and overhauling the site's processing plant. It is an alluvial property, with one possible known kimberlite to date.
The key to the merger, which will see EAG become a Diagem subsidiary, was Canadian investor firm Dundee Precious Metals deciding to put finance into Diagem and its president and CEO Jonathan Goodman agreeing to join the board.
"With such big names on board, we'll be able to attract further investors, and that will enable us to build something bigger. It gives us at least two or three chances of production and the blue-sky potential that follows. Up to now we've only been able to develop the project in incremental stages as we've raised the cash," said Diagem's Wood.
Diagem is also acquiring several kimberlite deposits in Canada and a joint venture with global diamond giant DeBeers along with EAG. "They will also raise our profile with many Canadian investors who don't look beyond North America," he added.
The Diagem-EAG deal remains subject to due diligence and regulatory approval. Nevertheless, Diagem has also announced completion of a US$333,000 private placement and the undertaking of another to raise US$666,000, which it expects to be fully subscribed.

on track for breakeven by the 4th quarter

Msg: 131737 of 131741
I've been out of town for several days - so your "silence is deafening" remark is purely a function of your own perception.
I absolutely do think ASTN has a chance -- as an operating business, it has never done better than it has done in the past few months and according to management is still on path to breakeven by the 4th quarter. My understanding is that they continue to make progress in reducing the burn rate and are 100% focused on getting the bigger users to start trading through a very direct sales effort involving the seniormost people in the company. The addition of the daily 2-sided liquidity is very recent, and the efforts of the company to "close the deal" with larger institutions that they have been working with for a year or more has a much greater chance of success with that in place. That being said, it is hard to call up a trader to get him to place a trade on eVWAP when that trader is at the beach for 2 weeks. So I am looking to September and October as critical months in which to see if there is real progress being made beyond the volume and revenue growth trend we already see.
The stock is clearly broken down in technical terms, and delisting and dilution are very legitimate concerns at this point. Critics can say that many of us on the long side failed to exercise appropriate discipline on the sell side as the stock price was eroding over the past year -- it is a very fair criticism -- but that says nothing about where we are now. My view has always been (and remains) that if ATG can make it as an operating business, the stock will recover (and they are well on the path to doing that, albeit a year later than I expected and hoped). In the past week or two, the stock price has dropped nearly 50% (until yesterday on pretty thin volume) -- but NOTHING has changed for the worse operationally -- if anything, the continuation of the volume trend in August is pretty encouraging. So I perceive what is happening to the stock price over the past 2 weeks as a matter of supply and demand (some capitulation, a general lack of investor interest in this type of risky investment (including specific to this stock), the late August doldrums, and a horrible, tired market in general).
What I do NOT accept as true is the lie (which has been widely disseminated by Mary and others) that the people running this company are evil or criminal, or that the company has "no chance". Here's something to think about -- if the SEC was investigating ASTN as Mary has charged as recently as this week (in connection with Westy's problems), why did they approve the S-3? IMO, there is NO WAY the S-3 gets approved if ATG is truly the target of an SEC investigation. Which is the best evidence we have that her claim is false. A ton of inaccurate factual information about the company has been spread on these message boards by a bunch of pretty malicious characters whose motives, methods and objectives remain unknown, and that relentless effort has (with the help of ATG's own self-inflicted wounds) clearly impacted the mood among the smaller investors who follow these boards.
So my intent is to pay close attention to how they do operationally and to ignore the BS on these message boards. Which means that I will be paying less attention to the crap I read here, and probably posting less frequently as well.
This is my opinion, Platy, and only my opinion. You (and everybody else reading it) should form your own opinions, and stop making me the issue. The issue is NOT how I perceive it or how you perceive it -- I'd like to see the lying and personal attacks stop, but the core issue when all is said and done is whether this company becomes profitable, whether it lands some of the larger users, and whether the clear upward volume trend of the past 4-5 months continues and accelerates. If it does, it won't matter one bit what we think.
Take care.

the total for the first four days of the week are the 3rd highest for a similar period this fiscal year.
the total for this week makes it the forth highest weekly volume for the fiscal year.
examining the table below (which i hope posts ok):
1) we see that only friday can be considered a weak day for evwap. historicaly one can say that only friday has been a "low day". yet performance on friday has been strong through the last 6 weeks, with only one small volume day in that period.
2) a sum of all daily records still leaves the company short by about 20% of the weekly volume necesssary for break even status. this using the .01 net per share estimate.

Not knowing that much about options yet, I'm not sure what makes sense in stock picks... maybe you good pick one conservative one like LEH or XOM and then a more volatile one like DNA or CHIR? Not even sure which ones you can do options on...
So what is a covered call?

I agree up to a point... but I like the Parking Lot idea which keeps the mainly personal debates off the other discussion boards. It lets everyone speak their mind for the most part. But what seems to happen is that people that don't want to really open up the discussion on the Parking Lot get away with snipper attacks on other boards.
I was also wondering, are the Jail House rules the same as the Parking Lot?
