Well on the bright side my shares are in a TFSA (Canadian for Tax Free Savings Account). Whatever I gain is 100% tax-free, but that also means no writeoff for losses.
My original plan was that 50% of my shares were on a short-term trading basis, 50% long term investment. I was going to withdraw profits from that trading portion when the 3D comes out, but I got a feeling that as fate would have it I'll have to do something else for pocket money and accept that I've gone from 50/50 to 100% long term investment :o
I would add to my total but I haven't got much laying around at this point to buy any more. I do wish I understood options a little better though.
We're on opposite sides of that buck :( Haven't sold a single share, but let's just say I've been disguising my freakout quite well until now.
I am still wondering exactly what happened that day. I too don't have a lot of knowledge (I have referenced myself as a rookie in numerous posts).
The way I have always understood it, R&R placed most if not all of the 25M in a few prearranged large blocks. In addition to that, ANOTHER 25M shares changed hands on that fateful friday. In fact if you look at the total outstanding count, I do not believe it went up that friday, it went up at a later date when those arranged large block transactions closed.
I could be wrong about how that worked, but if I am, where in the daily trading is the 4M block sale to Blackrock, and where are the other large block sales that we've been told transpired that day?
If I am right about what happened, what's happening now makes more sense to me. 25M new retail holders who bought in at the 5 - 5.30 range are nervous. They bought in the midst of the the hype that HDY was a bargain basement deal and would only go up from that point on. A lot of them have been shaken loose by the forces driving the SP down. More jumped ship today. If we push towards 3.50 the lemmings will be in full migration.
But like you I'm new at this, just trying to make sense of it all. And please, anyone who knows more and can add facts, I am only trying to figure this all out. If you got anything like the actual date the additional shares showed on the AMEX, please jump in!
Hey! I said tomorrow!
Seriously I've been entertaining this thought since we went sub 4.50 but have yet to act on it. I know how it works. The minute I sell Ray releases the 3-D with the news it doubled the size of the risked and tripled the unrisked :o
I added up all the new institutional holdings declared as of 31/03. Altogether it amounts to around 5.54M shares. Sure would like a peek at where the other 23M went. I get that Ray can't disclose but man whoever it is sure wouldn't hurt things right now by letting us know. So would a signed drillship contract. I'm sure I'm not the only nervous one when it comes to the uncertainty of the LOI.
lol well I remember feeling fortunate filling @4.50 to get my asp down. Crap.
If this continues in the morning I will be sorely tempted to sell half my shares and rebuy later in the day.
For the most part I agree about the 'twits' but then again, the speed of information went up again with their arrival. They have an impact.
The twitters would indicate otherwise. Where's the next support? $3.30?
Hey I'm flush, lets set a new high
let's go for 10.01 and push this puppy into double digits :)
Of course that would mean no starbucks for the next few days :(
Anyone want to sell me one share @ 3:59:59
for $5 :D
HDY is about as exciting as our federal election today
Thanks for that, I missed the original post on IV. I find the reference to Anadarko very interesting. When I posted this
http://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/read_msg.aspx?message_id=62506632 asking if a potential partner had popped into anyone's head, the name that had popped into my head was Anadarko.
Monday Monday . . . :)
I suspect those won't be the last two we'll find out about over the next couple days :)
It's all new to me too, but IF I understand your question correctly and I understand this answer correctly,
http://www.investopedia.com/ask/answers/05/shortsalevotingrights.asp
Then no, the voting rights go to whoever bought the shares.
At approx. 9:30 into the cc Ray stated that the 3D has changed the focus to the south end of Area 'A.' He also stated that the proposed drill locations lay in 300 - 1500M of water.
Since I was bored, I took the map from the last presentation and traced over the existing 300 M line in green. Unless I completely missed something in the call or they have discovered something additional that does not show on this map, this pretty much narrows the targets down to 2 of 3 tilted fault traps. Add in that he also mentioned there was a deep water canyon . . . indicated by the major jog in the contours . . . and that it would provide valuable info on the deepwater prospects . . .

If you want an education from me on the oil exploration business
you'll end up with a worthless piece of paper :o
Remember, I did declare myself as a green rookie at this game several times over!
After last night's game nothing can phase me :)
And I'm sitting on higher average price looking down. The thought keeps occuring to me to sell and buy back lower, but you know the second I try that Ray will announce a JV signing or something.
BTW when he talked about only being willing to partner up with someone who either offered producing properties in return and/or extensive compatible experience, did any name happen to pop into your head?
(got to think about something new now that Ray squashed the loop specualtion or I'll slowly go crazy watching the sp)
Upside trade quality: 90%, Excellent
High trade quality is a combination of good profit, profit/loss ratio and target potential.

Of course they also state
Downside trade quality 95%, Excellent.
Ladies and gentlement please ensure your seatbelts are securely fastened, keep your arms inside the car at all times and hold on tight! :o
And yet the lemmings are migrating this morning as predicted. I have learned a thing or two in the past few months. One of those things is that there are people who blindly put money into stocks on the advice of bloggers and then have no clue when the stock doesn't immediately increase in value the following day. I'd link to one in particular but I like the guy who is blogging. He is definitely intelligent and gives some pretty solid alerts to keep an eye on. It's just that some of the lemmings attracted to the site are dumb as dirt. They're flailing their arms right as I type this :o
Twice the potential reserves of the Bakken shale kind of said it all.
Ha! Yes he did
Run out of tp my butt, they turned around because a fishing boat was in the way! Actually he said no idea what could be a reason. Hey it was a fun distraction! It was interesting that he also said they advised the ROG on how to ensure the highest price for the relinquished portions of the lease.
We know that and Ray knows that and the vultures driving the price down can't wait to scoop up the shares of those who have no idea what we have
I am extremely pessimistic about that spiking price :)
Bump the slump baby!

Maybe I need to get negative again :o
I suspect somebody got caught with an open market sell order in AH and those were the two winners.
Speaking of twits I wonder what the squawk from motley drool will sound like this week
(edit) I was just going by the contour lines from the map in the last presentation.
I also just took another look at the date of that article. OOPS! Never mind lol. My mind read it as 2011 first time. I was wondering what was up with those depths :o
Must be time for a nap
Those water depths rule out pretty much everything except the tilted fault traps that lie just below the 100m line for the first target and just above the 200m line for the second. Structure 3 is too shallow and everything else is too deep.

Excellent point! Although I like the idea of 12.6M shares trying to cover @ 1.9M/day :)
They were already planning on presenting at the conference.
http://www.smguinee.com/html/conferenceprogram.html
Hopefully we hear who the other big buyers were next week.
Yes could be a reshoot, it's just the location was so suspect. But surely they don't really use paper any more do they? (other than tp of course lol )
12.6M shorts. Emerging uptrend. No one selling. Tick tock tick tock tick tock.
They'll be desperately trying to paint that closing price down.
Why that's nothing less than Bear Negativity!
Here's some more . . .

To da MOON Alice! To da MOON!
(edit) I just had that same thought lol. With the possible exception of that loop I don't think they have either.
I submitted this:
During the ongoing work of the BOS Atlantic carrying out the NWAAM survery, the ship made a loop on April 16th to the immediate NW of the tilted fault traps shown in this image I compiled.
http://i56.tinypic.com/vem8w0.jpg
Was this deviation from the survey track at the request of HDY? If so, what can you tell us about the purpose?
BOS Atlantic NWAAM 20/4
The 20/4 position was actually reported @ 2011-04-19 21:50. I wonder if we'll find out what that loop on the 16th was about during the conference call.

Here's a really negative thought
if the volume stays around today's level that push will be sustained for at least 5 1/2 days by the height challenged :)
Now that's got to be a very negative thought for someone lurking out there :)
(edit) with the shorts now hitting 12.6M make that better than 6 1/2 days @ 1.9m/day :)
http://www.dailyfinance.com/company/hyperdynamics-corporation-common-stock/hdy/ase/short-interest
I've been a big time cheerleader of HDY and every time I posted something positive it closed down. Figured it couldn't hurt to wear the doom and gloom hat for a day. One more 'negative' day like this and the volume will pop as the shorts pull the covers and hide under the blankets :)
