OK, Len do tell. Who are the others? I am guessing I might be on that list so I am now curious. If you don't want to offend others you could always PM me the info.
Mat
Len,
I don't know too many people who deny that global warming is occuring, but unfortunately, or fortunately if you are trying to take advantage of the situation, the term has become synonymous with man-made global warming. This is a key fact since it is driving global policy and almost a hysteria. What I find interesting is that the single best currently viable technology to combat man-made global warming is nuclear power, but I don't hear any of the politicos talking about this option.
my two cents...
Mat
Well, I decided I could use a little more ZYNX today and bought 1500 shares at $1.17. Best of luck to all.
Mat
My guess for ZYNX January is 1275.
Mat
Littlefish, If AYSI hits $5 in the next two years, a group of VMCers should take a group tour of the Malaga plant and at least buy you dinner...
Gilead,
Thanks for digging up this information, it further reinforces my confidence in AYSI and WA mining. You make me want to go out and buy more AYSI, if only I had more cash burning a hole in my pocket...
Thanks,
Mat
Yes, the bid jumped up right after I put in an order at $1.19. I have been lurking ZYNX for a bit and after some DD I picked it as part of my PSL8, but today I decided to buy some on the drop. I gave in and bought 1100 shares at $1.22 and am happy with the entry point.
Mat
Amazing that AYSI has made it almost all the way back is currently only down 3 cents. Great buying opportunity for those with a little extra cash. I have been lurking on ZYNX and just put in an order for a few shares at the current price. We'll see if it gets filled. Definitely a roller coaster ride today...
Mat
AYSI was definately a bright spot in an otherwise dismal investment day. Obviously the lack of PR and poor overall day did not deter an excellent AYSI rise. Hopefully we stabilize out at this level for the next month and then continue the ascent. Thanks to LF and all for the discussion and DD and I look forward to discussing the next 10Q data in the near future. I only had a few sips of the Kool Aid, but may be willing to drink more in a month. LF, is Kool Aid your drink of choice when we all meet at a future VMC Meet and Greet to toast AYSI success?
Mat
I was not trying to imply this quarter will be poor, just that right now there is not alot of margin. I agree that things look good and I thank you for the table pounding that got me to look closely last year. I hope AYSI take you to the top and I can buy you a drink at a future VMC Meet and Greet to toast the amazing success of AYSI. Go ahead and mark this message and start planning for that drink...who knows if AYSI grows enough in the next two years, dinner would probably be doable.
Mat
LF: Yes, I agree it was a significant improvement, but $500K cash is not that much for a company that is growing. I agree that a similar quarter will continue to improve things greatly, and as I said the 10K looked good, but it is something that could easily turn the other direction with a bad quarter. Don't get me wrong, I still hold my 29.5K shares and I am very happy to hold.
Mat
Well, there is alot in the 10K to be optimistic about. The obvious vulnerabilities are the small number of major customers, so far, the relative youth of the company, and the relatively small cash position. As LF has mentioned, if they could increase their penetration and customer base we may see significant growth over the next few years. I expect when AYSI growth challenges their competitors others will try to duplicate the success of acroplate. Hopefully the propietary benefits can be maintained by AYSI. Thanks LF for your DD and I look forward to February.
Mat
Nsom Challenge: The logic behind my picks are as follows:
AYSI: I have been invested in this stock since fall based upon the table pounding of LittleFish and my own DD that confirmed his optimism. I doubled AYSI in PSL7, but the run happened just after PSL7. I look forward to more runs in 08.
ZYNX: I recently performed DD on this stock and like what I see. I haven't bought any shares myself yet, but the increased order flow and performance make it look like a good investment.
MDF: Yes, I have been in this stock for a number of years (in at .5 and still holding at $2.3) but 08 will be the make or break year. MDF needs to have their HMO reach break-even and it is at 6320 per today's CMS enrollment report and needs something north of 8K for breakeven by the end of the open season. Cost control is the other critical variable that has shown recent improvement, but the next quarterly report will be key since this is the historically worst quarter.
TRGD: This speculative pick has lots of potential, but has had this potential for more than a year and is yet to deliver. Filings need to be brought up to date and some of the projects need to show progress. Definately speculative, but could be very profitable.
GG: My well-managed stand-by pick to take advantage of increasing gold price. I don't expect any dramatic rise, but believe it will return better than cash.
TGA: Another defensive pick to protect against increasing oil prices. This stock is extremely well-run and has a recent aquisition that will increase production.
Thanks and best of luck to all,
Mat
PSL8 - MDF - Big thanks to whoever pulled down MDF at the end of the day. Etrade indicates MDF is at $2.55 in extended hours trading. That bodes well for those of us who picked MDF for PSL8. Since the CMS monthly enrollment report should probably be posted on Monday, I am guessing someone knows there will be good news and is trying to beat the rush. I guess we will see.
Mat
Last time I picked MDF for a contest it shot up in the last couple of days before the start. I admit I picked MDF for PSL8, and now look what it has done... OH well, if MDF hits $3 during PSL8, but I don't win I guess I can console myself with the rise in my actual portfolio.
Mat
I noticed that the bid/ask was at 1.25-1.30 even when AYSI was at $1.16 and it just filled back at $1.30. Good news for long term, not so good for those looking for some cheap shares. Its ok with me if we hang out here until the 14th.
Mat
LT_Matt,
I am sure you will do much better than I, but I started investing just out of college 19 years ago and this last year I passed the $900K mark. With a good 2008 I hope to achieve 7 figures. It has been a slow, steady rise with some definate bumps along the way and an overall annual return of ~15%/yr. Best of luck to you and I firmly believe the VMC board is the best source of information and investing ideas out there.

New Weapon in War against Drunk Drivers Gets Nod from Patent Office
Jan 3, 2008 09:30:01 (ET)
TORRANCE, Calif., Jan 03, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- AcuNetx, Inc. (ANTX, Trade ) announced today that its HawkEye(TM) law enforcement system, which is manufactured and marketed under an exclusive agreement with the company's subsidiary, VisioNetx Inc., has been awarded two separate patents by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office.
"HawkEye(TM) is fast becoming the standard tool for training law enforcement officers who patrol the nation's highways and an invaluable aid in collecting data needed to identify and subsequently prosecute drunk drivers. Not surprisingly, the HawkEye(TM) is being increasingly used at sobriety-check points and field evaluation sites," said Ron Waldorf, CEO of AcuNetx and co-inventor of the system.
Waldorf went on to say that, "Coming on the heels of receiving a 2007 Innovation Award for HawkEye(TM), the patents reinforce our belief that the HawkEye(TM) will make a significant contribution to the company's growth in the years ahead."
The facts are sobering: 1. Approximately 160 million episodes of alcohol-impaired driving occur each year; 2. Drugs other than alcohol figure in some 18% of all motor vehicle driver deaths; and 3. Alcohol-related crashes in the United States cost the country over $50 billion annually.
2007 Performance:
My portfolio was up a measly 6% this year due to riding out MDF, and ASPN (sold out most over the year), and poor performance of SUWN, TRGD, TELT.
My winners were AYSI, GG, TGA(a bit), UCIA.
I also transitioned ~10% to GNMAs and have more cash 5% than usual going in to 2008. I am hoping to see the MDF HMO hit breakeven, have TRGD get up to date on filings and deliver, ride the AYSI performance, and find a few more good opportunities during 2008. Best of luck to all VMC and thanks for what you share.
Mat
OT:PSL8,
Yes, I have never been able to time my PSL picks to do well in that forum, but it is a thought provoking contest and is useful for DD in uncovering additional gems. A number of times my picks run either immediately prior, or just after completion of a PSL. I was doubled down on AYSI and it ran a week after PSL7. Oh well, I certainly have no complaints.
Mat
Happy New Year! AYSI performance has certainly enhanced the holiday for our family! If the future prospects weren't so compelling I would be tempted to take some off the table, but this is the best opportunity I have been involved in for awhile. The only negative is that AYSI is that it won't be as great a candidate for PSL8, LOL. With the next quarter results expected in Feb, I can assure you it will still make my list, but I will happily take the actual increase in pps today with more to follow for PSL8.
Happy New Year to all and thanks for this community that shares such valuable information upon which to perform DD.
Mat
Housing Bottom Date - I assume we are picking from a National Average Perspective? I will select March 09.
Mat
After pondering and evaluating over the holiday I decided to pull the trigger with a limit order for another 5K. I have been lucky and half of it has filled this morning. I would definately enjoy another few K shares at this price level. I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and follow it up with a Happy New Year!
Mat
Bobwins,
Excellent sentiments and I know most of us agree 100%. Merry Christmas, Happy New Years, and thanks for all the wisdom that is found daily on VMC!
Mat
BigFi$h,
Thanks for your persistence on AYSI, I started to accumulate in May and am thankful I got lucky and bought 4500 more two days ago at .74. I am tempted to buy even more while it is still in the $1 range. Always, nice to get an early Christmas present.
Mat
I can explain the bump up in the ask. Last night I decided to invest a little more in AYSI and put in a bid at .74. Let me know if you wish to see it go a bit higher and I will raise my bid a bit. I would love to get another 4500 shares, but if the train has left the station, I could enjoy that to.
Mat
12/4/07, 3 pm
Thanks,
Mat
AYSI - Big thanks to littlefish and the other table pounders on this one. In the last month I added 10K shares to my existing 7K shares and they are already up over 30% in less than a month! I look forward to the revenue growth projections to come to fruition so we see further appreciation! The double bonus is that I doubled down on PSL7, so maybe I can have a respectable finish for a change...
Mat
I will take the Chargers
Mat
Put me down for the Giants.
Thanks,
Mat
I will go with Cincy.
Thanks,
Mat
I will go with Da Bears this week.
Thanks,
Mat
I also agree that AYSI looks compelling. I bought another 7k shares yesterday.
Mat
For next week I will go with Dallas.
Thanks,
Mat
I may not have called AYSI a tablepounder, but I think it is a great investment and have a limit order in to buy more. It definately looks like a good reward for low risk stock.
Mat
I pick Green Bay for this week.
Thanks,
Mat
Nsom challenge:
I had a hard time finding stocks I was really crazy about. I considered TRGD, but decided there were too many unknowns. I thought about MDF, but it is too early. I thought about short positions, but knew there was at least one rate cut and I am not convinced we will be in a recession. I didn't do much additional DD, and went with the following.
Cash: Safe spot until I see something intriguing
AYSI: The increase in employment and hopefully demand should result in good growth.
ETLT: Holdover from PSL6 that I hope will run at some point.
GG: Solid gold company that should reflect gold price runs and also a solid company.
SUWN: Stevia play that may have been a mistake based upon information out today.
TGA: Play on increasing price of oil and hopefully some increased production going forward.
Mat
Len,
I took the survey during PSL6. When I select the survey now it doesn't allow me to take it, it shows I took it on 7/24 and it just allows me to see the results. I assume that is due to taking it previously?
Mat
I will go with Carolina for week 3.
Thanks,
Mat
Jacksonville for week #2.
Thanks,
Mat
