UPDATE 5-Bush homeland security nominee Kerik withdraws
Sat Dec 11, 2004 01:33 AM ET
(Adds Giuliani reaction, paragraphs 16-17)
By Adam Entous
WASHINGTON, Dec 10 (Reuters) - U.S. President George W. Bush's pick to become homeland security secretary, former New York police commissioner Bernard Kerik, abruptly withdrew his nomination on Friday due to what he said were questions over the immigration status of a housekeeper and nanny he employed.
Kerik's surprise decision sent the White House scrambling for a new candidate to oversee the nation's sprawling Department of Homeland Security, charged with helping prevent a repeat of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.
Bush's current homeland security adviser, Frances Townsend, is one possible candidate. Others include Undersecretary Asa Hutchinson and Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.
Kerik, 49, nominated by Bush little more than a week ago, said in his withdrawal letter to the president that he discovered the problems about his housekeeper and nanny while completing documents required for Senate confirmation to the post, whose duties include enforcement of immigration laws.
Kerik's is the latest high-level nomination since the 1990s derailed by tax and immigration issues related to domestic help.
"I uncovered information that now leads me to question the immigration status of a person who had been in my employ as a housekeeper and nanny. It has also been brought to my attention that for a period of time during such employment required tax payments and related filings had not been made," he said.
thanks again NC. attendance sounds
reasonable. Not sure who to thank on the dip, PR guy, sellers, CEO ..
but holding 120% more shares than yesterday.
good luck all
more for me. thanks to whoever.
NC - about how many attended?
thanks NC. From what you took
as positive DFTS, was there something specific as why "things seemed to running smoothly at NMKT until news of this deal with DFTS came thru."
Anything about Xiptel?
NewMarket shareholders will receive shares
in Xiptel by the end of the year.
is that within the next three weeks or 2005?
seen it everywhere - funny post.
NMKT dumping an unprofitable or wiggling in? I can't tell.
To PR before a meeting is a bold move for a CEO. Right?
thankie lil_mini_ditka
Someone post a PGLAF chart and I'll
summize with something old ..
>Brisbane, Australia Friday February 27, 2004. Progen Industries Limited (ASX: PGL, NASDAQ: PGLAF), a progressive Australian drug development company, today announced its half year financial results to December 31st, 2003 and said the company is on track to meet its objectives for 2004.
Today also marks an important milestone in Progen's field of research. Genentech, Inc.(NYSE:DNA) announced today that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved AvastinTM (bevacizumab), a Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) inhibitor, to be used in combination with chemotherapy as a treatment for patients with metastatic cancer of the colon or rectum. Stephen Chang, Progen's Chairman commented, "This is outstanding progress for the anti-angiogenesis research area and helps build our confidence in our Phase II compound, PI-88. PI-88 is small-molecule-based and rather than relying on a single mode of action to induce an anticancer response, it inhibits blood vessel growth, or angiogenesis via multiple growth factors including Fibroblast Growth Farctors (FGFs) and VEGF, as well as inhibiting other angiogenic agents, including heparanase".>

David Keaveney, a broker with First American Equities in Phoenix, works with sixth, seventh and eighth graders, including his stepson, Anthony.
Keaveney's method is to encourage the kids to think for themselves. "In the fall, I ask them what they're thinking about, and they say Christmas toys--Mattel, Huffy," says Keaveney. "And clothes--Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren. You have to allow them to open their minds."
By participating in the game, kids learn about math and other subjects, Keaveney says. "There's an economic factor to the market, politics as well. And there's foreign economics, too."
In addition, the kids learn that "things don't always work out the way we expect them to," Keaveney says. "And they learn the value of money."
The fact that Keaveney is teaching their children impresses the parents, some of whom become clients, he says. "They're happy someone out there is teaching instead of selling." Most of the business from the parents is college planning for the kids.

Nothing at all wrong with taking profit.
prudent even. But do ya'll really see momo slacking off? NMKT broke 200ma. RSI climbing over 70 for first time in six months. MACD at .02 and climbing. Are those sell signals?
I do not find this move surprising at all. Isn't this what most longs expected? I would not be surprised to see .80 tomorrow or on the next PR. Isn't this what has been discussed here the last few months? Gezz, tomorrow could be the breakout we have expected!
I'm not arguing about taking profit, but it seems you are jumping ship too soon. Just when new money is coming in and what could be the last of the additional share issuance. Thats OK though, nothin wrong with a little profit, but remember, you can always buy in again .. :)
good luck all.

Bingo motsam, my thought too. Not sure
if it's been discussed here but it seems they are still distributing the additional shares or somethin. For every buy there's an identical sell (I know .. duh), BUT the MM's are doing this masterfully while keeping NMKT value in line and keeping the balance on the upswing through the day.
News Monday upper .60's. None and the gap looms.
That's my dumb guess.
Same here. Hold off till Monday tho.
Maybe we see a little run this afternoon in anticipation.
interesting times with NMKT.

FCC Rules in Favor of Net Phone Industry
Tuesday November 9, 8:39 pm ET
By Jennifer C. Kerr, Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Federal regulators gave a boost Tuesday to the fledgling Internet phone industry, removing a regulatory hurdle that threatened to drive up the cost of making calls through cyberspace.
The Federal Communications Commission voted 5-0 for a petition by Vonage Holdings Corp. of Edison, N.J., which had asked the agency to declare the company's product an interstate service, giving the FCC regulatory control.
The move exempts Vonage and similar providers of Voice over Internet Protocol, or VoIP, from some key state-by-state regulation that the companies say would add cost.
FCC Commissioner Kathleen Abernathy, a Republican, said streamlining regulation of VoIP companies will help the industry grow. "By fencing off these services from unnecessary regulation, this order will help unleash a torrent of innovation," she said.

Does it seem like there is alot of
panic buying in the market lately? I'm seeing 100% + stocks going nutz with much less potential than NMKT. A month ago I would have been suprised if NMKT did that this qtr, but not now.
Yesterday closed right at the HOD and today might be the same.
good luck
r u ready 2 RUMBLE!!
pete, came across this tonight
that supports your argument.

NMKT ready to RUMBLE!
pressure's building - gonna blow soon.
Could leave without fillin ..
thanks deashus. nothing wrong with
keeping a little something in your pocket I guess.
Actually it seemed somewhat odd that they would do a filing while in China in the first place. As for earnings and what's happening in general, I agree it's all good.
I still say the pps has to dip another cent or three first. Anyone looking to add get ready. BUT - it's only speculation on my part.
good luck
Any ideas why no word from China ..
>The 2005 Business Plans will be published in a news release and SEC form 8K Information Filing in conjunction with the briefing in Shanghai.>
.. from the PR on 9/21? Or did I miss it?
trick or treat?
this weeks a trick .. next a treat?
Happy Halloween u pagans.
then looking for a 52 wk hi first. naz
can wait.
naz a better fit. techs belong there imo.
agree but gar-ron-tee the gap will fill first.
Hardwork, you might not like the issue
but you could profit from it. STEM and ASTM are two that are makin bank for traders and worth watching at least till the election.
holy cow - No wonder it's been retreating
I overlooked the gap Aug. 25 .44/.49. Take care of that this week and it could be the last time NMKT trades .40's. Heck - may buy couple more shares ..
also someone (Mr.B?) asked about a OTC/AMEX stock. CYPT became HIV awhile back, it jumped about a dime but didn't hold.
Good luck!
From a recent PR ..

Thursday the 14th, the group will travel to Shanghai to tour NewMarket Operations and the Operations of NewMarket's Joint Venture Partner, GaozhiSoft.>
I look for the next PR on the 14th. What would be really cool ..
>We are already close to signing substantial new sales contracts through Gaozhi Communications with client companies well-recognized in North America and Western Europe.>

Sticking with qtr per qtr .. .75 mid Nov., and by my t/a maybe a test of .80ish.
.61 resist becomes support .. nice.
So I was a week off on the sixty's .. 200dma halted the momo and we have a bears candle .. so what, NMKT hung around the fifty's a few weeks, likely to do the same here. China trip news and third qtr. will move the chart in a few weeks.
Quarter per quarter .. bottom line NMKT is going up and it doesn't matter who post what. Strong buy .. even for a basher.
Buckaroo's a comin'
tomorrow testing the 60's.
Anyone have a recommendation on mac
charting software? Opinion on trendsoft?
thanks
Some posters must be very careful or
they could be held liable for their remarks. On their list of Do's and Don'ts my guess is providing links is a don't.
Interesting PR tonite. Altho old to NMKT, this one is external and makes a NMKT/CSCO connection. Cisco investors got it too and they've been busy lately which I touched on awhile back. NMKT has announced 100ml next year and could be turning heads ..
Nothing more than interesting imo.
Cal-Bay generated $38,207 in commission income, and $1,557 in product sales, for total revenues of $39,764 for the six-month period ended June 30, 2004, with cost of sales of $1,162 for a gross profit of $38,602.
