Cheney Urges Vigilance in Confronting Terror
By Donna Miles
American Forces Press Service
WASHINGTON, Nov. 1, 2007 – Vice President Richard B. Cheney today emphasized the importance of victory in Iraq and urged continued support for the men and women in uniform.
Speaking to about 300 people in Indianapolis at the Indiana War Memorial before the opening of an American Legion conference, the vice president urged vigilance in standing up to terrorists who seek to destroy all that America and the rest of the free world stand for.
“Through acts of stealth and murder and spectacular violence, they intend to frighten us and break our will (and) to hit us again and again until we run away,” he told the attendees, many of them veterans and members of the Indiana National Guard.
Cheney pointed to “enormous changes” made since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks to better protect the United States and its people against another attack. “But we cannot protect the nation, much less win a war, by simply bracing for another attack,” he said.
Cheney cited President Bush’s decision “to marshal all the elements of strategic power to confront the extremists, to deny them safe haven, and above all, to deny them the means to wage catastrophic attacks against us.”
“We've also made clear that, in the post-9/11 era, regimes that harbor terror and defy the demands of the civilized world should be held to account,” he said.
The vice president said he supports U.S. intelligence programs that have produced intelligence that’s prevented additional terrorist attacks. He defended CIA interrogation practices against terror suspects. “Our government has taken careful but urgent steps to monitor the communications of enemies at large and to get information from the ones that we have apprehended,” he said.
“We've respected civil liberties and upheld the high standards of this great country. And because we've been focused, because we've refused to let down our guard, we've gone more now than six years without another 9/11.”
Cheney said the war on terror is more than a contest of arms or a test of will. “It is a battle of ideas,” he said, noting that to prevail, the United States must help remove the conditions that inspired violent extremists like those who planned and launched the Sept. 11 attacks.
Cheney praised the troops and urged public support for them and their families as they stand on the front lines in the war on terror guarding against another attack on the United States. He noted the sacrifices they’ve made, noting the exceptional sacrifice made by Army Staff Sgt. Richard Blakley, an Indiana National Guard soldier killed in Iraq. “He gave his life for his country, and his country will always honor him,” Cheney said.
“War is an unpleasant business. It tires the soul of a nation and tests the will of its people,” Cheney said.
He urged patience for “a long struggle” that continues in the war on terror. “The day will come when the threat hanging over the civilized world has been lifted,” he said, urging attendees to take the message to their communities that persistence will achieve that victory.
“Because all of you are leaders in your communities, your very help is important as we remind fellow citizens of the nature of our broader war on terror, the stakes for our country, and the need for a systematic effort to win decisive victory,” he said.
“Above all, you can remind your fellow citizens that the purposes America serves are good purposes,” he said. “The United States is decent, honorable and generous, and so are the people who wear its uniform.”
Cheney praised U.S. servicemen and women and urged continued support for them. “Right now, members of America's armed forces are serving in countries around the globe –- from the broader Middle East, to Europe, to Southeast Asia, to Latin America, to Africa,” he said. “Every day they confront the violent, protect the weak, heal the sick, and bring hope to the oppressed.
“We live in a dangerous world, but it's a world made far better by the active, committed presence of the United States,” he concluded. “Our cause is freedom. That cause is right. And by the valor of those who serve it, that cause will prevail.”
Spellbound, The King, the British, and now Bush. Bush was on a roll today.

Bush was grilling Congress' Democratic leaders today.
<<<<Congress earned Bush's scorn even while he offered praise because a key Senate committee has passed a new eavesdropping bill containing many provisions the president wants. "It's an important step in the right direction," he said.>>>>

Hi good day Spell, ...it almost sounded like you might think we get no help out of the king when you said>>>For King Abdullah to tell the world that Britain is not doing enough to counter "terrorism", and that most countries are not taking it as seriously as his country is, is really pushing it. Is this the land that is really going to teach us lessons?>>>>
Yes sir, he will tech us!!!!Like him or not, Bush TOO gets help fighting terror from many nations...Bush gets little to no thanks for us not getting hit for so long!
imo>I think the King told them many things they didn't want to hear.

It falls short. As does crying doom and gloom opinions in solving the problems facing man.
<<<<On the contrary, I count as great minds the very authors whome I choose to refer to>>>>> Don't be so boxed in, Spellbound. Our problems are being worked on by people you don't know...when financially feazable they WILL create new booms... The price of oil going up will make other forms of power feasable before oil gets so high people can't afford it.
<<<<You seem absolutely convinced that this is all nonsense>>>>
No, only the doom and gloom part. THAT'S *shock jock" if you ask me.
<<<<Just wish it to be so and the almighty will prostrate himself at your feet and make it so. Yeah, right>>>>
Now, now, Spellie have faith in the good people you don't know.
Big BIG $$$$$'s waiting for the power brokers that WILL put an end to oil's strangle hold. The list of reasons they will is a long long list. It will change the world for the better...wind and water and thermal and etc etc...oil sucks in so many ways, we ALL agree.
Oil is a crude form of power;) Out with the old in with the new. Catch the wave, btw>can we cool the oceans?<<<<<
That 3.9%# blows in the face of your prediction<<< Fed's going to reduce interest again by a quarter point tomorrow>>>
Hi Bibiche>Cheers

Where oh where did Woffy go:(
WOOFY-Y-Y-Y......oh-h-h-hhh woofer.
WOOF E-*COME HOME*!!!!Please....I will not say one word about 9/11;)
New refineries are now open. Refineries in the Gulf have reopened.
The price of oil might be up but refinery competition is keeping the "little guys" gas prices down.
"When nobody could afford it" is alarmist. They want to get as much as they can, not stop people from buying it.
Drive us out of oil and into other forms of energy is all it will do. Your "Greater Depression from oil" will be a boom to America with non oil, in house replacement solutions.
What will all that $$$$ for oil do if kept in America?
You seem to discount great minds, Spellbound.
Is that what it is? Whinning.
We'll see who's whinnig if they go to jail over a scam.
One man No show.
Ken better have info on what he did this last year.
RED FLAGS>>>>
Name change and 5000/1 R/S, a new web page with a blank 'about us page' that's still blank... drop of old Transfer Agent and NO new Transfer Agent. The 10,000 share discrepancy needs adressing....as do questions about shares lost in conversion!
No news for months.
Calls and e-mails get nothing.
New posters with optimism.
Did Ken strike it rich or not?
My guess, with no news, no. Is our only hope *word* from Ken Lamb.
WHAT A JOKE!!!We need a person that can get the job done....find gold...talk to shareholdes. If all we are going to get are fluff PRs ,and pumper runs, and doing no business..it's a scam imho

That's not thinking, it's regurgitation.
No,uncle as in: I give up.
Gl on square one, Woofer. Your views on 9/11, hold no water. You keep looking for links so you can stay in your box.
Our brave troops are fighting to keep the Iraqi safe and training Iraqi so they can stand THEIR ground(not Bush and Co's) for the good of the free world.
Is that an uncle?
#1>Stay no.1
#2>No war is not a good thing, but winning wars is.
#3>Not make wars possible, make war avoidable, by being #1.
#4>When it comes to war, peaceful solutions have failed. Like when UN mandates fail and sanctions on top of UN sanction fail, and agreements of a cease-fire are not kept(fail), when the will of the world is ignored...what's next?
Today in BAKU, Azerbaijan - The U.S. and British embassies suspended operations, when their government said it thwarted a radical Islamic group's plot to conduct a "large-scale horrifying terror attack" against diplomatic missions.
No oil involved, the diplomatic missions are not to stir up war and it wasn't a Bush and Co fake PR.
This war is not only about oil. The woman killed by a bomb set by Islamic militias in al-Baraka, Somalia wasn't about oil,9/11, or Osama tapes. Same goes for the Islamic militants who behead two captured soldiers and five civilians in Swat, Pakistan just the other day. Or in Lashkar Gar, Afghanistan, the teenage suicide bomber that killed three Afghans civilians.
---------------------
Your link makes me think you trust the word of Osama bin Laden the founder of the terrorist organization al-Qaeda, the same bin Laden that issued two fatwas—in 1996 and then again in 1998. Did you know> pre 9/11 He was indicted in the United States federal court for his alleged involvement in the 1998 U.S. embassy bombings in Dar es Salaam Tanzania and Nairobi, Kenya. I hate to break it to you, but on top of all that, he did admit to 9/11>>

<<<<<If you honestly think that many members of our government really care, ask why they knowingly allowed first responders to the 9/11 crisis, to breathe in the air that was filled with toxins. They ALL have protective gear with *coming transformation made possible by new technologies.* at a high price....the companies that make whatever, do make money.
Go long in their stocks and you can too. btw>Halliburton is a publicly traded company.
---------------------------------------
<<<<And do you honestly think that Bush & Company care or cared about the Iraqis? Think. Don't believe what you are told. Use that noggin of yours.>>>>
The Iraqi are now helping fight al-Qaeda. Have you ever stopped with the 'Bush & Company' yap long enough to think what the ramififations of a failed Iraq are? Use YOUR noggin.
The split now evident in Iraq will help in this long war.
google>>CLS Iraq....al-Qaeda is getting ther butts kicked and not just by Bush & Co. This is just one step in a long process...Iraqi fighting with Coalition troops is helping...but it's far from over...Muslims now see first hand al-Qaeda and the Taliban are killers PERIOD and they do THEM NO good....and the Coalition is working with them, training them, equipping them so they can keep their peace. Their peace is good for all of the world. Well.... not Iran. Iran wants to dictate how you cut your hair, no internet, their women are treated like dirt, etc etc....
---------------------
The total estimated human loss of life caused by World War II was roughly 72 million people.
In Vietnam we lost over 58,000
The cost of war is high. We want the best for OUR us troops...WE need for them to stay safe at any cost and stay No.1.
If the US can't stop the Taliban and al-Qaeda who will? If they take over the Middle East the flow of oil all over the globe will be at risk.
Goin' out will be back....I hope:)
Hi Mary too:)+:)+:)

Hi murphy2006
Thanks Woofy:)
Woof+Spell>Why would anybody kill 3000 Americans, fake tapes and fire up the religious fanatics? Why do those same religious fanatics take credit and cheer 9/11?
Why fake 9/11 and tapes?.. so we can go fight them with a cost of another 30000 more American lives and many more innocent Iraqi lives.....blow Trillions of dollars?
Do you have any links where al-Qaeda isn't killing or saying kill Americans?
It's time for a change...er..or a charge, oil $$$ will stay in the USA. Just think how much and how many ways this will help.

Reimagining the Automobile Industry by Selling the Electricity
By JOHN MARKOFF
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 28 — Shai Agassi, a Silicon Valley technologist who was in competition to become chief executive of SAP, one of the world’s largest software companies, has re-emerged with a grand plan to reinvent the world’s automobile industry around battery-powered all-electric cars.
Others are developing green cars, like the Tesla and Chevrolet Volt. However, Mr. Agassi is not planning to make cars, but instead wants to deploy an infrastructure of battery-charging stations in the United States, Europe and the developing world.
The new system will sell electric fuel on a subscription basis and will subsidize vehicle costs through leases and credits.
“We’re basically saying this is just like the cellular phone model,” he said. “If you think of Tesla as the iPhone, we’re AT&T.”
On Monday, he plans to announce in New York City that he has raised $200 million from private venture partners, including the Israel Corporation, a large Israeli transportation and technology holding company, Vantage Point Venture Partners, as well as a group of private investors including Edgar Bronfman Sr., the liquor magnate, and James D. Wolfensohn, former head of the World Bank. Israel Corporation’s $100 million investment was announced earlier this year.
In an interview Thursday, Mr. Agassi said tests of prototype vehicles would start in early 2008 and the company would begin commercial sales and service in two years. He said he was working to obtain commitments from both governments and carmakers.
Mr. Agassi founded TopTier software in Israel in 1992 and then moved the company to California. TopTier was acquired by SAP, based in Germany, in 2001.
He said his approach was a radical departure from other electric-car ventures that relied on advances in battery technology, which have come slowly.
Instead, he plans to extend the existing electric-power grids with a wide network of intelligent recharging stations in urban areas and supplementing it with a smaller number of automated battery-replacement stations.
Today, giant automobile makers as well as start-ups like Silicon Valley’s Tesla Motors are struggling with life cycle, performance and the cost limitations of battery technology. Tesla, for example, has been delayed several times by battery-related issues and now says it plans to deliver its first models next year.
General Motors has said it hopes to have advanced lithium-ion battery technology in place to commercialize its planned Chevrolet Volt, but those batteries are still being developed.
There are also issues of safety with existing lithium-ion batteries that have become unstable under extreme temperatures.
“If you listen to the car companies, they suggest there is a fix, but it’s not there yet,” said Stephen J. Girsky, a partner at the investment firm Centerbridge Partners who formerly served as an adviser to General Motors.
However, the new venture, which Mr. Agassi has named, for now, Better Place, would be viable even with existing lithium-ion battery technology, he said.
The economics will be more compelling in Europe, where gasoline is roughly twice as expensive as in the United States, he said. Assuming a life span of 1,500 battery recharges, he said that the energy cost of all-electric cars would be about 7 cents a mile. That would be less than a third of the cost of driving a gasoline-powered car today.
“It’s much easier to transport electrons than octane molecules,” he said. “We’ve already got a grid that goes around the entire world; all we have to do is extend it.”
Mr. Agassi envisions tens of thousands of recharging spots that will adjust for both cost and use patterns. For example, a group of parking-lot chargers at a workplace might recharge a visitor’s car before a regular employee’s car parked for the entire day.
The system will also supplement recharging stations that require about one minute of recharge time for every minute of driving, with a smaller number of car-wash-style stations for swapping batteries. This would make it possible for a driver to go to a station rather than wait to recharge a battery, he said.
Hi Woofy>>Nope sorry, videos are out. I'm on dial up(way way way too slow) AND my speakers don't work.
Thanks for getting back to me so fast. Take your time, I'd much rather have conversations, you know one on ones. We are like oil and water on 9/11 but I still want to know what YOU think, not some loonie link. Please.
Thanks for your time:)
Have a great week!
Max
Oh, so now you are saying the Americans that killed 3,000 other Americans on 9/11 also are making Osama bin Laded tapes to rally radical Muslims in a Jihad against the West.
--------
Did those same Americans fabricate al-Zarqawi and al-Zawahiri's morale boosting 9/11 anniversary tapes, or were they just playing along?
-------
How about 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, 9/11 attack facilitator Ramzi bin al Shibh, and al Qaeda military chief Muhammad Atif are they helping the *insiders* pull the wool over American's eyes?
-------
Is this all just a ploy to help perpetuate a 9/11 lie?
September 2007: German authorities disrupted a terrorist cell planning attacks on military installations and facilities used by Americans in Germany. The Germans arrested three suspected members of the Islamic Jihad Union, a group that has links to al Qaeda and supports al Qaeda's global jihadist agenda.
September 2007: Danish authorities disrupted a cell, which included one al Qaeda-trained individual, planning terrorist attacks using explosives.
June 2007: Four individuals were charged with plotting to blow up major fuel tanks at JFK Airport. Three of the individuals have been arrested, and the U.S. is pursuing extradition of the fourth.
May 2007: The FBI arrested six al Qaeda-inspired individuals plotting to kill soldiers at Fort Dix Army Base in New Jersey. The plotters purchased weapons for the attack, which they had been planning since January 2006.
August 2006: British authorities broke up a plot to blow up passenger airplanes flying from the UK to the U.S. Our Intelligence Community believes this plot was just two to three weeks away from execution and could have rivaled 9/11 in the death and destruction caused.
----------
Is this just for show, to fake us out?
Those evil insiders>>>
Created The Department Of Homeland Security (DHS). This agency brings 22 Federal entities under one roof to better coordinate efforts to protect the U.S. Homeland.
Passed The USA Patriot Act. This Act has increased the flow of information between law enforcement and intelligence officials and helped break up terrorist cells in the United States.
Created The National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC). At the NCTC, law enforcement and intelligence personnel work side-by-side on terrorist threat analysis and conduct strategic operational planning to ensure the work of departments and agencies in the War on Terror is well coordinated and responds directly to the threats we face.
Created The Position Of Director Of National Intelligence (DNI). The DNI coordinates and integrates the work of the Intelligence Community as a unified enterprise and serves as a core part of our national security team helping to keep the American people safe from harm.
Established The Terrorist Screening Center (TSC). The TSC maintains the Government's consolidated list of suspected terrorists and individuals with terrorist links and helps get this information into the hands of State and local law enforcement.
-----------
Is this just to make us think the Taliban and al-Qaeda are bad?
Iraq: Helping the Iraqis as they build their democracy is critical to keeping the American people safe from the terrorists who want to attack us. A free Iraq will be a massive defeat for al Qaeda, a source of hope for the rest of the Middle East, and an ally in the War on Terror.
Afghanistan: The United States and the international community are helping the Afghan people build a free nation that will stop the Taliban and al Qaeda from returning to power and deny al Qaeda a base of operations. Afghanistan, with the help of the international community, has held two free and fair elections, almost doubled the size of its economy, and expanded availability of essential services such as health and education.
Pakistan: The Pakistanis understand the threat that al Qaeda and violent extremism pose to their country and the world, and we will continue to work with them to deny terrorists safe haven in Pakistan.
North Africa: We are working with our partners to counter al Qaeda's further expansion in the Maghreb – evident in the emergence of "al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb" (AQIM). This group claimed responsibility for recent terrorist bombings in Algeria, including the September 6 and September 8 attacks, which resulted in the death of a number of civilians.
Persian Gulf: We are working with allies in the region to strengthen efforts to dismantle terrorist cells, stem terrorist financing, and undercut the ideology used by al Qaeda and its supporters to justify the murder of innocents.
Europe: We continue to build strong relationships with allied governments to increase information sharing and counterterrorism cooperation.
Southeast Asia: We are assisting host-nation counterterrorism efforts, which has resulted in the disruption of local plots and terrorist networks known to target Western interests. We also continue to cooperate with the Philippine and Indonesian governments on their counterterrorism efforts, which has led to the arrests and killings of key Abu Sayyaf and Jemaah Islamiyah figures.
------
This will fool Americans into thinking we have a threat>>>>
We Are Implementing Programs To Increase Border And Transportation Security
Doubling The Size Of The Border Patrol: Since the President took office, border security and immigration enforcement funding has increased more than 126 percent, and by the end of 2008, the President will have doubled the size of the Border Patrol since he took office to over 18,000 agents. The Administration has also launched the Secure Border Initiative, which will provide the appropriate mix of personnel, infrastructure, and technology to help secure our Nation's borders.
Screening Visa Applicants: All applicants for U.S. visas are checked against extensive databases with terrorism-related information, and all international air and sea passengers on international voyages originating or concluding in the U.S. are vetted against a consolidated terrorist watchlist. Since 9/11, we have instituted mandatory interview requirements for virtually all applicants for visas to United States. We have also launched US VISIT, a program that collects biometrics of virtually all visitors to the United States. We are able to run these prints against United States government databases to help identify travelers and keep out those who intend to do us harm.
Instituting The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative: This program will require all travelers from the Western Hemisphere to show a passport or other secure document for travel to the United States by air, sea, or land.
Screening Containers: DHS established the Container Security Initiative, under which 78 percent of the containers that enter U.S. seaports are screened before they leave for our country. In addition, virtually all containers (98 percent) entering U.S. seaports will be scanned by high-tech radiation detectors by the end of this year. DHS also launched the Secure Freight Initiative to help identify radiological or nuclear threats well in advance of a container's arrival to our country.
Improving Aviation Security: Since 9/11, we have taken substantial steps to improve aviation security, while maintaining the efficiency of air transportation for the traveling public. Highly trained Transportation Security Officers screen passengers and baggage at airports across the country. Federal Air Marshals protect hundreds of domestic and international flights every day. We have hardened cockpit doors, armed pilots to defend the flight deck, and strengthened air cargo security.
Passenger Name Record Agreement: Last month, we reached a Passenger Name Record agreement with the European Union in which the EU agreed to continue to provide us with access to pertinent data from airliners on passengers taking transatlantic flights to and from the EU. We also collect this information on arrivals from other regions as well.
Advanced Passenger Information System: Last month, we enhanced our Advanced Passenger Information System by publishing a final rule requiring international air and sea carriers to provide Customs and Border Protection passenger manifest information prior to boarding, rather than when planes are already in flight and cruise ships are underway.
Hi my friend, I agree. As long as we keep chugging along the price of oil will go up. When we start to slow down, then they will see how high they can go on the price and still sell all that they can. I'm lucky I don't need to drive many miles.
I still want to know why I'm only paying $2.69 a gal with oil at a new high and paid $3.25 when oil was at $60 bbl. Seems the oil companies are taking the hit for us.
Shake and take? I'm with Mary...please explain.
With no news and Ken being as lame as possible, why do you buy this company with a *low float*? I think you are the only buyer posting. Most want to know what they are putting their money into first. The new web page "about Us" is still blank...no PRs, we know nothing. How much have you picked up?
Spellbound, you danced around my question>>>>If 9/11 was an inside job why would Osama take the blame/credit? ....so US troops would come and kill his al-Qaeda and Taliban fighters in his backyard....so he could live in a cave? Does'The House of Saud' reference Osama wanting Bush/US to fight for Democracy in Iraq?
Fill us in, Spellbound....how are Osama and Bush on the same page.
Woofer, 9/11....weigh in:)

In a major shift from the past five years, the US trade deficit, after stabilizing last year, is now shrinking. The dollar is sinking in value – down almost 9 percent so far this year – in a relatively strong global economy."
Hey Dude, no hope, no solutions, woe is me, gimme, gimme, gimme. Good ideas are breezed over....brilliant minds are virtually avoided to find like mined nay sayers as proof you are wrong, I am right. I posted>>>>The nation's biggest mortgage lender, Countrywide Financial Corp., whose aggressive subprime lending has made it the poster child of the nation's housing tribulations, announced Tuesday it will offer 82,000 customers a chance to adjust their mortgages and avoid potential foreclosure.<<two times, and not a peep. What a novel idea, adjust the bad mortgages *ding*....it's that or take a hit.
Bad loans make up a small % of home loans, why buy into>>we have no solution to the problem and we are on a one way road to hell, it's all you see in the media.... and it's echoed by doom and gloomers. Hedge funds and banks pushing bad loans, cut their own throats, it's time to pay the piper. Take out a bad loan wasn't a smart thing to do and risky at best. Real Estate runs in a 10 year cycle, in 5 years this will all be behind us. This last price boom on home costs was absurd. We only need to get back to real, we are not going to hell in a handbasket.
