oops - apologies to Marc - I intended for my basher comment to refer to yourfriendfred on RB, not Marc. Sorry all.
Larry,
I was straining my limited intellect to remember how this worked - I knew you had to register regardless of intent and, not having Edgar, could not see what he had done. I believe you are correct and had surmised it was typical basher misstatement.
Thanks for writing so early in the day.
Off for my morning run. Next week should be interesting.
LL
marc - I must have missed that. Where do you see that?
LL
Scarabus - what exactly is your purpose? As db said, are you a shareholder? I have not sold a single share. I believe that entitles me to be critical if I wish. What is your entitlement?
LL
ah db, we hardly knew ye. LOL
tenderloin - No.
didn't sound to me like moxa was criticizing - perhaps you assessment of colliers effort is not based on knowing all the facts - we don't know how much he spent on initiatives that did not come to fruition - we don't know what he promised internally that did not come to fruition - I am not comdemning him but you certainly don't have all the facts
moxa has made the most level-headed posts of virtually anyone since the shm IMO
LL
Danl - I am laughing against my will. LL
Hanuman - FWIW I do not believe we should get too excited about a gateway deal in the near future (though I had a different opinion earlier). I think our best opportunities for near-term lie with others. Just my best guess.
LL
djr - watch out, CDR will chastise you for giving advice. LOL (Sorry CDR, couldn't resist). Thanks for the thoughtful and to my way of thinking, very accurate assessment of the important aspects of what happened and where we are.
LL
counterproductive, unwinnable, a waste of time and misguided.
LL
CDR - get real.
danl - no idea - sorry.
LL
Let's just let them do what they are doing - support them as dop says, or sell. JMO.
LL
marc - if you think we are doomed sell your shares and go post on RB, OK? TIA
PS - I don't think any of us thought JC was god.
puma - hear hear - LOL
Andy - I am not a rah rah guy - I think it is important to separate the message from the way it was presented. Sorry if you think I was cheerleading - I am not. But I am holding.
LL
Marc - here is a fair summary from KlayShaw on Agora. It doesn't mention the brief allusian to Samsung, nor does it go into as much detail as Jones did about wedigmusic plans for talking books, competition with muzak from their independent artists, or 1,000,000 hits to the site, but is a good overall summary.

LL
mh - is that your post on RB - I have you on ignore over there - LOL - sorry, I'm cracking up.
LL
mh - is that a serious post?
jq - I will agree that Fred's was the worst presentation of this sort I have ever heard.
LL
I thought charlton heston unveiled the tablets. I used one during a beta test a year or so ago - didn't like it but could be I just wasn't used to it.
LL
could it also stand for vehicle navigation (or a number of other things?)
LL
moxa - i got it - pressplay, emusic, musicmatch, etc all there along with Odyssey 300.
LL
H - I think I'm going to stick with answer a. Just kidding. I think it is hard to make a long term case for what you propose, but it is worthy of discussion.
Best wishes. LL
H - well, I guess I am just a knee-jerk kind of guy. Glad I met your expectations.
If, as it seems, EDIG may be on the cusp of some very interesting undertakings and revenue increases, why not wait to see if the fundamentals of the company drive the pps to nas levels?
I have no particular time frame for getting on naz, but think we will be able to apply by this time next year at the latest.
Show me some convincing evidence that a company situated similarly to EDIG has undertaken a reverse split with postive long term results and I will retract the a. part of my knee-jerk post. Until then I say it is dumb and short-sighted.
LL
a. it's dumb
b. we won't need it
c. JMO
best wishes,
LL
marc, historically (over the past few years, EDIG has been trending downward in spite of the SHM pops - perhaps this year they have longer term plans in place that have nothing to do with short term pops. This is not your father's EDIG.
LL
Sent - LOL. The voice of sanity!! OK, just wanted to make sure I hadn't completely lost it.
LL
1. It is a given that many posters on our various boards think EDIG and Gateway are a match made in heaven.
2. Our website is indeed powered by Gateway - I'm not sure that means more than it says on the face of it.
3. There was a post on Agora which seemed legitimate and well-intended, but was 3rd hand information (a guy told a guy who told a guy) that stated we were getting in bed together.
It seems like this is still speculative at best to me, yet a lot of very credible posters seem to be assuming it is indeed coming to pass. Have I missed more definitive information somewhere; is it so obvious to others but I am just too dense to get it; does someone have some other relationship facts of which I am not aware?
I am just wondering why we seem to have embraced this as reality before the fact? Don't get me wrong. I applaud it if it is real. I think it is a great opportunity for both companies. Computer stores, airplanes, automobiles, handhelds, websites, etc, etc. - sounds good. Just wondering what the true objective take on this is. TIA.
LL
jack - yep. Exactly what Collier said in the last webcast. Thanks for the perspective.
LL
db - I love the boss live - loved the performance of the rising live at the MTV awards, and I have to say, I forgot about darkness on the edge of town (love the promised land) - that year I listened to that album and alison by elvis costello and some graham parker album over and over. I just happen to REALLY love Nebraska.
Good catch - great album. Sorry.
LL
or maybe that was "seem funny" - except for Nebraska I was never that big of a boss man.
LL
lickily - so put away your gun.
Okie - precisely. It's funny that many posters (not here particularly) are arrogant enough to think they understand all the economic permutations and combinations which EDIG is parsing. They then set deadlines and timeframes based on their incomplete understanding and begin taking shots at EDIG when these dates are not met. It has even been extended to the absurdity of an attempted board recall.
It's kind of funny when you think about it.
The numbers will eventually speak for themselves and, in my opinion, will do so in eloquent fashion. By 2005 we will look back and it will seem so obvious. (or, as springsteen said "we'll look back on this and it will all be funny.")
LL
BD - I don't think you can put it any better than that. There are some who will become increasingly uncomfortable with the way EDIG goes about conducting their business. This is being reflected in the increased negative commentary.
There are others, like myself, who are becoming increasingly comfortable.

Hot Toys for Grownups

If you've held off buying that digital camera or DVD player, this could be the holiday shopping season you've been waiting for.
Faced with sluggish sales coming into the fourth quarter and no "must-have" gadget to lure shoppers, electronics retailers are expected to slash prices to unseen lows for deals on cameras, MP3 players, game consoles and DVD players. And retailers that aren't dropping prices are hoping to compete on another level -- by stocking electronics that they've never sold before, giving shoppers more choices.
"The prices are right this year," said Ann Shachtman, president of Now! AudioVideo, a Hillsborough-based chain of consumer electronics. "We're hitting the tipping point where everybody is buying these products now, not just the early adapters."
Try digital cameras starting at $29. A new Palm hand-held organizer for $99. Brand-named DVD players starting at about $60.
And they won't just be at the usual stores, such as Best Buy, Circuit City and Wal-Mart. Gateway, best known for its computers, hopes to boost sales this year by selling MP3 players, digital cameras and soon its own brand of plasma televisions. A section has been carved out for the new products at the company's Cary Crossroads store and in Durham off U.S. 15-501.
Gateway spokesman Greg Lund said the move was designed to help Gateway stay competitive with other big-box retailers and not necessarily a response to other computer makers. However, Gateway has had significant competition this year on the retail front. In the Triangle, this will be the first holiday that shoppers can buy directly from three of the nation's top computer sellers. Apple has a new store at The Streets at Southpoint in Durham, and Dell has new kiosks at Crabtree Valley Mall in Raleigh, Cary Towne Center and Southpoint.
"It's really us naturally extending what we do," Lund said. "We think we needed to be more of a complete retailer, and that's what we are now."
Others are making changes too. Circuit City stores will soon start stocking Sharper Image gadgets. And Wal-Mart is looking to move ahead in the consumer electronics segment by selling personal computers for as low as $200 on its Web site. That's in addition to the price cuts on popular electronic gadgets.
Retailers need all the edges they can get this year. Analysts several months ago started predicting that this holiday shopping season might be about as dim as last year's, which was one of the worst for retailers in a decade. The troubled economy, unstable stock market and looming threat of war all cause analysts to think shoppers will be more cautious with their money.
Still, mainstream America will like the prices for consumer electronics this year, said Tom Edwards, senior analyst at NPDTechworld, which tracks consumer electronics sales. He's expecting digital televisions, DVDs and home-theater systems to be among the top sellers this Christmas.
The Consumer Electronics Association said DVD players will continue for a third year to be the top video product that shoppers want, followed by digital cameras and televisions. Lower prices will help drive those sales.
Here's a sample of how far prices have dropped: Portable DVD players that were selling for about $1,000 two years ago have been selling at Wal-Mart for as low as $200. Digital cameras with 2 megapixels -- a value that controls the clarity of the image -- sell for about $150, where a few years ago they sold for $300. And video game consoles, such as Microsoft's Xbox, that were going last year for $299 are now down to $199 at Best Buy.
Although retailers need the low prices to boost sales, the cuts are mostly due to the manufacturers, who have struggled along with retailers as more electronic makers flood the market with cheaper prices and more options for shoppers. In the case of Palm, which has seen sales sag and prices drop for PDAs this year, coming out with the $99 PDA, called Zire, was part of a rebound strategy.
"There's nothing out there that's terribly techie or that's creating a huge buzz, but there are a lot of products that are coming down in prices, and that's exciting for everyone," said Jeff Faust, a spokesman for Best Buy.
I'll reserve judgment.
you and me both - LL
barry - I acknowledge you know more than I, but when American loses $1B in a quarter that eats into the reserve and the goodwill pretty rapidly. JMO
Also, from any objective supply and demand analysis there are too many airlines and too few passengers.
Best wishes.
