The Sun, Lowell, Mass., business briefs column
CHELMSFORD, Mass., Dec 17, 2004 (The Sun - Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News via COMTEX) -- SONUS TO SUPPLY ISRAELI-BASED ISP: Sonus Networks Inc. said yesterday that Israel's largest Internet service provider is deploying Sonus' Voice-over-Internet Protocol telecom gear to build a new network for international calls.
Israeli-based NetVision is planning to offer a range of VoIP services using the prefix 017. Financial terms for the program, launched last month, were not disclosed. The news comes two days after Sonus announced an alliance with Minneapolis-based ADC under which ADC will service Sonus products.
Through the first nine months of this year, Sonus has posted sales of just over $125 million, up from $46.8 million a year previous. Shares of Sonus closed on Friday at $5.65 apiece in Nasdaq trading.
ANDOVER -- RAYTHEON LANDS MISSILE PARTS PACT: Raytheon Co.'s missile-making plant in Andover has landed an $11.2 million parts contract for the Patriot missile system. The Defense Department said work done in Andover is expected to be completed by July 2006. The contract was issued by the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command in Redstone Arsenal, Ala.
The Andover missile plant, which once employed company CEO William Swanson, currently employs more than 3,000 people. Through the first nine months of this year, Raytheon reported revenues of $14.5 billion, up 12 percent from the comparable year-ago period. Shares of the company closed at $39 on Friday, near their 52-week high.
BILLERICA -- CSPI MAKES SALE TO DEFENSE CONTRACTOR: CSP Inc., which makes signal processing systems used for radar, sonar and surveillance, said on Friday that it has shipped its FastCluster 220R device to a major defense contractor. Neither the customer nor the financial terms of the deal were disclosed. CSPI's high- performance systems contain Linux and Myrinet clustering technology for use in command, control, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance applications.
Shipment of the new platform was completed earlier this month with future deployment anticipated. The company reported sales of $32.5 million in its latest fiscal year, which ended in September.
