Using the gold standard of mass spectrometry in tandem with the Cannabix FAIMS prototype device, Graph A and B below show suppression of background matrix allowing the THC peak to be easily recognized.
This demonstrates the capability of the FAIMS device to isolate and detect THC from complex background matrix.
The Company also reports that it has commenced identification of medical device manufacturers in order to implement human factor design (single or dual stage design), verification testing, and develop manufacturing documentation for standardization requirements, as well as create multiple devices for pilot testing.

The report also goes on to say,
The DDT5000 did not absolutely correctly identify DUID offenders due to fairly large proportions of false-positive or false-negative results compared to drug concentrations in blood.

Police drug test accuracy in doubt :
"The majority of these are machine faults and invalid tests. We have also found that about 30% of our STKs (saliva testing kits) are not working sufficiently - the adequacy indicator fails to turn blue even though there is plenty of saliva there,"
NSW Police Assistant Commissioner John Hartley told Seven News that officers there were experiencing an accuracy rate of approximately 67 per cent with their Dräger machines.

To date, oral fluid is the most studied and promising alternative matrix for DUID programs. However, THC is detected in oral fluid for 48 hours in chronic smokers during sustained abstinence.
Exhaled breath may offer an alternative to oral fluid testing as cannabinoid detection in this matrix may better coincide with impairment.

The Canadian people and their elected officials aren't going to sit around and wait for anyone to make their roads safer.
An instrument to detect drug impairment at the roadside/workplace is needed NOW and it should come as no surprise that the void will be filled by whatever is currently available. Canada's decision to presently use saliva testing does not conclude that the technology is superior or is a be-all, end-all.
Wether that technology provides probable cause for further invasive testing, infringes on an individuals rights, or withstands the scrutiny of the judicial system is another topic for discussion.

The point I was conveying is that there is growing concern amongst officials on both sides of the border questioning the viability of saliva testing.
Canada's decision to use the Dräger 5000 is old news. It has been made abundantly clear come December police in Canada will be conducting saliva tests that can only detect prior use.
The decision to use it, does not conclude the technology is superior, or its a cure all. The Issues with it are well known, including, varying sensitivity between occasional and chronic pot smokers, difficulties of use in extreme cold and not to mention it's invasive nature, imo will be the Achilles heel...

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) A test allowing Vermont police to screen drivers for pot has hit a roadblock.

Jurisdictions setting impairment levels imo means a roadside device will be required to either, (a) quantify test samples in order to determine the concentration of psychoactive metabolites. Or (b) be calibrated to detect psychoactive metabolite concentrations within predetermined parameters.
A yes/no device is acceptable as long as the compounds being detected are the metabolites that prove impairment.

We need to solve THC testing -
The testing for the presence of THC in the bloodstream hasn't been very helpful either, it's usually done through blood, urine or saliva, which tests residual amounts as opposed to that actively used by the body at the time of the test.
There is some light on the horizon, however. A new company, Cannabix Technologies, is touting a new breath test that can detect the amount of THC in a driver's body at the time of the test.
